Washington Post Blogger: Given How Crowder Has Attempted To Publicize His Beating, I Wouldn't Have Publicized His Beating

From @benk84's headline thread.

I was struck by this excuse for non-coverage. Note Wemple explains away the media's non-interest from 11am to 9pm based on a Hannity appearance occurring at 9pm.

Yet if folks are truly scandalized by the lack of generalized media outrage about Crowder’s treatment, they should take a second look at Crowder’s actions. Though he appears to have carried himself nobly while under attack, he’s gone buffoonish since then. He said on Twitter yesterday that this is “getting fun.” He challenged his assailant to a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight. And he has generally sounded as if he’s enjoying this boost to his career prospects, in a way that his Halloween-candy-exposes-the-fraud-of-income-redistribution stunt did not.

Given how Crowder has carried on, I, too, may well pass on the story of his beating, were I a network executive producer.

Yes, indeed. And this is rule which is applied without any political bias. For example, when Sandra Fluke engaged in a great deal of partisan political agitation with a strong component of self-promotion (hiring a PR firm, for example!), the media completely shut her out.

Yup. That's exactly what they did.

The media offered the same excuse for not covering Benghazi-- Oh, we wanted to cover Benghazi, and would have covered it, but then Mitt Romney tried to raise it as an issue for us to cover, so we couldn't of course cover it.

Liberal sort of logic here, eh? If a conservative wants a genuinely newsworthy story covered (as Wemple admits this is, before these defend-the-media paragraphs), then the liberal media is required to shut that conservative out. The story becomes non-coverable simply because an important actor in it -- a conservative -- wishes it to be covered.

And if that conservative attempts to get the media interested in the story, or shame them out of their embargo (and the media embargoed this from the moment it happened), that is... well, a reason to continue the embargo they had already decided upon.

Again, note that a liberal can be quite self-promotional, and even hire a promotional PR firm for the explicit purpose of promotion to the media, and the media doesn't consider that buffoonish, or attention-seeking, or cloying, or whatnot.

When Sandra Fluke does it, it's not cloying. It's just confirmation that she's a Superstar Hero with a Big Story To Tell.

The schools are much less to blame. Sure, they can give their side of the facts but people are influenced by their peers and the media. The media is the social sanction on what to believe.

From the linked article:

"HFO-1234yf is a refrigerant that is becoming an industry standard in Europe. Thanks to incentives offered by the Environmental Protection Agency, the refrigerant is likely to be rolled out widely in the United States as well. Honeywell and partner Dupont have a monopoly on the stuff. It also can kill you in more ways than one."

"Simulating a leak in the air-conditioning line of a Mercedes B-Class tourer, they had released a fine mixture of refrigerant and A/C compressor oil, which sprayed across the car’s turbo-charged 1.6 litre engine.

"The substance caught fire as soon as it hit the hot surface, releasing a toxic, corrosive gas as it burned. The car’s windshield turned milky white as lethal hydrogen fluoride began eating its way into the glass."

"Before that, Andreas Kornath, a chemistry professor at the University of Munich, warned that HFO-1234yf can release hydrogen fluoride HF.L during its combustion. Says Reuters:

“Readily absorbed by the skin, hydrogen fluoride begins attacking the body once it enters the bloodstream by spreading death on a cellular level, a process known as necrosis. High enough doses are known to cause the lungs to fill up with fluid, causing a drowning sensation, and to trigger cardiac arrest.”

So press releases and statements from people they agree with (Sandra Fluke, Charles Schumer) are accepted at face value.

The depressing thing about reading Bias is that I really thought things had gotten worse over the last ten years. And maybe that have, but not nearly as much as I thought they had. It’s just more obvious to anyone paying attention, which is, unfortunately, not enough people.

I'll throw the bullshit flag on that one. At a young age kids are very impressionable. They don't know what to think, so they go with the flow - provided by teachers - until they have enough facts to make up their mind. After that point, you're right, they do rely on their peers.

The thing is, when you've been fed a certain type of "fact" for a decade or so, and all your peers have also been fed the same "facts" then it is logical to assume you're all going to move in lockstep to some degree.

I had a History teacher who used to say, "Stop thinking. You don't know what to think until I give you some actual facts to think about."

He was right.

The problem is that the kids are only getting their facts from lefty jerkoffs.

And I am a former Masshole too.

157 We have to subvert the ideas and institutions of the Progressive State. We should not make it a goal to take them over. It's not possible and and it misses the problem entirely.

For instance, public education is a progressive institution designed to create 'good citizens' of the Progressive State. It conditions children to authoritarianism and it infuses progressive ideology.

So conservatives and libertarians take that over and we do what with it? It's very existence ensures a single outcome. Acting within it is a waste of time and resources. We need to support alternative systems such as home-school and certain forms of private schools.

162 127 The problem is that the kids are only getting their facts from lefty jerkoffs.

And that's all fixable by active involvement of parents of teenagers. My stepson just emerged from public high school and matriculated to the U of Missouri. This was his first national election - first big chance to vote.

Well, after a few productive years of the family eating dinner together (and watching the frigging news, not Inside Hollywood), he knew what was coming from the teachers' unions vs. reality... He knew how important this election was, and since he was a slacker and didn't go the absentee route, I'm pretty sure he actually had to pay for gas money for he and a friend to go from Columbia back to the STL Metro area where he was registered. He did it though, I was kinda shocked since we both knew MO was in the bag for the big R.

Many of his friends know that they're the ones getting stuck with the bill for all of this overspending - I'm surprised at how many of them are/were actually on the Ron Paul bandwagon.

If a viable libertarian party/candidate ever emerges, I think there's a tremendous force out there emerging that will be a fiscal conservative powerhouse for decades to come...sigh. These kids (the ones that are awake) know how fucked they are in a couple years when they try to find a job to pay for this excess Government...we just have to catch them before they give up.

178 For instance, public education is a progressive institution designed to create 'good citizens' of the Progressive State. It conditions children to authoritarianism and it infuses progressive ideology. So conservatives and libertarians take that over and we do what with it? It's very existence ensures a single outcome. Acting within it is a waste of time and resources. We need to support alternative systems such as home-school and certain forms of private schools.

201 The MSM is a similar problem to public education. We can't take it over either, but we can undermine it by supporting alternatives mediums. And I don't mean supporting 'conservative alternatives' like Fox. I mean we should stop consuming information from TV, Film, Radio, and printed sources.

If you like a certain project find a way to consume it that doesn't put money in the pocket of the MSM institutions. Or, at least, consume those products that skew profits toward open sources.

We need right leaning people to engage in open source journalism and creative projects. Getting a job as a conservative token at some MSM institution hurts more than it helps.

208 Violent union thugs are news!

Why would the journalist who was attacked not want to promote his story?

And why are we playing the game where victory is the WAPO or NYT reporting it?

We keep losing because we act like they are relevant. Of course, they are relevant and their bias has a terrible effect, but they are never going to let up with the bias. So long as we play their game, we lose. The sophists will have a new excuse tomorrow for the new contradiction.

That a video of violence from democrats is not news, but rumors (lies) of spit and racial slurs from Tea Partiers is news... just one of a million examples.

The MSM sings a sweet song of mooching and government to a country that currently is buying in. When things fall apart, the first thing we need to tell them is that the MSM lied them into this. When blame is assigned, education and MSM deserve first billing.

Sadly, I don't see a way to avoid the problems the lies have led to.

Bannion is right here. For example, my eldest BIL's kids. Always talking about littering, keeping the earth clean, and making nasty comments aout myhubby's smoking. Now I don't advocate littering, pollution (actual, not the imagined stuff), or smoking. And, in fact, the kids' father smoked until recently and were not getting anti-smoking messages at home. Where did they get that? Why at school. They're inundated with stuff like that.

And while we may not be upset at *those* particular messages, we *should* be upset when the teachers are telling them they should vote for Barack Obama in the school-wide mock election because Mitt Romney is an evil businessman that hates poor people and Barack Obama is a good man who wants to help people and make everything all better. And that is almost an exact quote from my nephew as to why he voted for Obama in that mock school election when explaining why he was upset at my 5-year-old son for saying Obama believed in taking from people who work to give it to people who don't and that's stealing (why, yes, I taught him that, thank you).

And yes, that includes lowlighting SCOAMF's marxist connections, shady academic history and affirmative actioned rise from a no recorded achievement background to a world wide heralded, rising tide breaker and Nobel Fraud.

Playing nice has gotten us nothing, and lately I'm getting the distinct impression that a lot of right of center types have adopted the Weepy Boner approach to current problems.

It isn't that prog shit is particularly promoted by the teachers, but all of the products available for teachers to use in the classrooms are full of it, and finding materials without bias is a full time job. So, some always creeps in. "Time for kids" is particularly crappy. But there are plenty of others.

Luckily, it is balanced out by the conservative message of our holy priests, daily Mass, and lots of stories about saints and holy men and women. The school actually teaches Columbus Day historically, rather than hysterically as the progs would have it. So, there's that.

Just get the cheap/common dilute stuff used by sign makers for glass etching and remove the water.

Don't you mean LOWEST pH?

The lower the ph, the more acidic the solution. With Dihi having a ph of around 7.0 I'd tend to agree with the original comment, which made me laugh.

251 I'm pretty sure "Additional Blond Agent" is an expert concerning Hydrogen Peroxide so just go with what they say.

There's only one of me. And yes, I'm a chemist. Mostly nuclear stuff these days but with a fair amount of background in the inorganic chem required in the spent fuel reprocessing side of things. We once even proposed a cycle involving hydrogen fluoride as a recyclable exchange agent to clean up zirconium in a closed loop metal fuel system. At 600 deg. Not surprisingly, management ultimately decided against that for safety reasons.

The point I was trying to make, that maddogg raised a question about, is that yes, concentrated hydrogen peroxide is also quite dangerous, but it takes a lot more of it to cause serious problems and no, it's not progressive in the same way that hydrogen fluoride is. It only takes a fairly small amount of the latter as a simple skin exposure to be lethaland as others have noted, interferes with nerve function and doesn't get noticed until the burn is well underway and very difficult to neutralize. Calcium gluconate only works short term after exposure.

252 My thought is that vouchers would go a long way to fixing this problem.

Vouchers, or some form of school choice, are such an insanely obvious idea, I still find it hard to believe the non-teachers union left opposes it as strongly as they do.

I just got a flyer a few days ago from “Americans United for Separation of Church and State”. They are fighting right wingers trying to change public schools: prayer in school, book banning, creationism, intelligent design, and classroom devotions (yeah, except for Mr. President).

All these things that are only a problem because there is a monopolistic government school system. And yet also on the list that is horrible for education: school vouchers. Which would overnight fix every one of the other problems.

Only for pure water sealed against atmospheric exposure. Left under air, CO2 equilibrates in water to form a weak carbonic acid solution. Ultimately, the pH lands at 5.6.

255 I'm thinking of doing the following. How does this sound for a plan?

I'm thinking of sending out just simple, one to two line missives to some of my local newspapers. Brief things like, "When is President Obama going to spend some of his political capital to reform entitlements, like he told the Chicago Tribune he'd do back in 2009?" Or, "How come there's such a thing as the Voting Rights Act if voter fraud doesn't exist?" Send it to the "Letters to the Editor" address, and just keep doing it at least once a week, maybe more. I'd like to swamp them with paper.

Sound doable?

Yes, but then it's no longer a neutral 7. Because it's an acid.

Agreed, GB has put together a cohesive account, but I meant a wider, more concerted effort to counter the force of the MFM til they run out of money. And to be fair Beck prolly was constrained by FNC when he had his widest reach.I'm talking about unleashing the dogs of war, which some people even here don't seem to have the stomach for.I understand that it's easy for me to be an internet tough guy on someone else's blog, but point me at an instrument of media warfare that I can carry and I'm all in.We just need some media savvy leadership.

College chemistry storerooms hand out HCL and Sulfuric acids like candy.

HCL and sulfuric are no big deal. Those 2 plus nitric are probably the most common acids ever. Sulfuric is probably the oldest known acid.. unless you count citric or something stupid.

You can get HCL and sulfuric in all kinds of over-the-counter products like driveway cleaner or drain cleaner or battery acid and such. You can also make them fairly easily.

The stuff you buy at the store is about 3%. 10% max. Hydrogen peroxide is actually liquid rocket fuel. The soviets shot sattelites into space using hydrogen peroxide.

I believe it becomes flammable at concentrations over about 30-40% or so.

272 #126 Buying out the women's magazines is an exceptional idea.

Right now many of them are in trouble and are ripe for buyout.

One niche that could be filled is the craft, shabby chic, retro design. Mary Engelbreit's magazine and Cottage Living both bit the dust. Some of that was taken up by Southern Living and Guns and Gardens, but there is a market there for frugal decor with artsy stuff which could provide both a showcase for conservative artists and also some connections to conservative culture (you would have to be subtle).

For example, do a feature on Patricia Heaton's home. Or Clint Eastwood's! And an article on Dana Perino's dog training methods.
