| Overnight Open Thread (12-12-2012)Lena Dunham Is Gonna Get $3.7 Million Dollars For This Crap In case you've never heard of her Lena Dunham is the 26 year old Obama-loving creator of HBO's Girls - and pretty much the embodiment of everything Morons despise. It's like someone took the worst sockpuppet caricatures from all the comments and distilled them into one supremely annoying life form. Here's just a sample from her Wikipedia entry: Dunham was born in New York City. Her father, Carroll Dunham, is a painter of "overtly sexualised pop art", and her mother, Laurie Simmons, is a photographer and designer who creates "disquieting domestic tableaux" with dolls. Dunham's father is Protestant, and according to Dunham, a Mayflower descendant; Dunham's mother is Jewish. She has a younger sister, Grace, who is a model and student at Brown University and who starred in Dunham's first film Tiny Furniture. As children, both Lena and Grace were babysat by photographers Sherri Zuckerman and Catherine McGann. Dunham attended Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, New York, where she met Tiny Furniture actress and Girls co-star Jemima Kirke. She graduated from Oberlin College in 2008, where she studied creative writing. Recently she just got a $3.7 million dollar deal from Random House for a book of her musings on sex, travel, diet and pubic fat. And this deal was based on a 66 page outline consisting of instagram pics, her diet diary, and apparently a lot of 'nauseating and cloying precociousness'. Well Gawker got a hold of the proposal and mocked it to shreds. When Dunham's lawyer threatened to sue them, they had to pull the proposal and edit her quotes into deliciously cruel fair-use versions. It's Gawker (I know I know) but this is some beautiful schadenfreudtastic blue-on-blue action. Fully 13% of the proposal's pages are devoted to reproducing a diary Dunham kept of what she ate in 2010. And she intends to devote an as-yet-unwritten chapter to "a collection of emails that screw the pooch, jump the gun, and terrify men." Also, Dunham thinks she has the "beginnings of a FUPA (fat upper pussy area)" and wants to write about that, in her book of advice for women. I'm pretty sure you could get 66 pages of better material by cherry-picking the better satire in the comments here during any two week period. But then we're not "rare literary talents" with all the right connections, credentials, necessary politically correct views, narcissism and lack of shame to pull this off with a straight face either.
Obama May Hide Any Fiscal Cliff Tax Hikes From the Public Because whatever the law says the person who actually collects the taxes from each paycheck effectively determines the tax rate. The White House has the power to temporarily protect taxpayers from middle-class tax hikes even as upper income rates rise if Congress does nothing and all of the Bush-era tax rates expire in January. And if you make over $250,000, your withholdings WILL go up: ...Experts believe Geithner could even go so far as to adjust withholding to reflect the White House's preferred policy - higher rates on the nation's top 2 percent of earners and lower rates on everyone else. In fact, Minarik said the president could even use withholding as leverage in negotiations with Republicans if it came to that, using the tables to argue he is protecting the paychecks of the middle class. And lest you think Obama's tax hikes are just for the rich it turns out that they've defined 'rich' down to anyone in the upper 20% i.e. making over $75,000 a year: Affluent people are much more likely than low-income people to have health insurance, and now they will, in effect, help pay for coverage for many lower-income families. Among the most affluent fifth of households, those affected will see tax increases averaging $6,000 next year, economists estimate. Or at least a very, very good shot by letting a computer decide when to actually fire the rifle. TrackingPoint claims that their patent pending Intelligent Digital Tracking Scopes (tracking scopes) will allow an unskilled accurately hit long-range targets. How? Do NOT Talk About the Lest your Afghan allies get all stabby and shooty. The soon-to-be-released Army handbook is still being drafted, but a mainstream newspaper got a sneak preview and published an article that should infuriate the American taxpayers funding the never-ending war on terror. The manual is being created because someone with authority bought the theory that cultural insensitivity is driving insider attacks on U.S. troops in Afghanistan. [...] I'm torn on this - on one hand you do want to pass on info on cultural topics and actions to avoid in order to keep from offending Afghanis. On the other hand the very fact that our soldiers have to be so careful to avoid remarking on the barbaric, benighted practices of a backwards people or they might be killed makes me wonder why we're even there. How Teddy Roosevelt Saved Football In 1905 football was also under the gun due to injuries and deaths and there was widespread talk of just banning the game. Roosevelt decided something needed to be done to save it. On October 9, the president summoned some of the game's most powerful figures, including Walter Camp and John E. Owsley of Yale, Princeton's Arthur Hillebrand, and Harvard's William T. Reid for a closed-door meeting at the White House. "Football is on trial," he declared. Then he tasked the decision makers with changing the sport to keep it alive. After several heated rounds of meetings, in early 1906 the committee announced new rules: First downs now required 10 yards instead of five, what ultimately became a one-yard neutral zone between teams was mandated at the line of scrimmage, and yardage penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct were instituted. But the most impactful change-ironically, one that Camp himself vehemently opposed-was the introduction of the forward pass, a mainstay of modern football. How Many People Are in Space Right Now? I was in a bad mood this afternoon after I accidentally listened to the goddamned public radio. But then I was cutting through a parking lot on foot and saw a car festooned with all the usual liberal shit bumperstickers ("McCain=Bush 3rd Term" "Elizabeth Warren" etc.). It was parked (badly) in a handicap space -- and there was a fresh, crisp new parking ticket under the wiper. I chortled all the way home.

The rancid bitch has managed to turn something sexy into something gross. The pubic bone has a layer of adipose tissue covering it that grows during puberty. It is what is partly responsible for the very sexy look of a woman's pelvis (think bikini photos). it also makes intercourse more comfortable. Lena is unaware of this because her sexuality is political, not physical and emotional. That's why she is undoubtedly an awful lay, and will die alone. There are multiple technology trends pointing to the era of insta-snipers. There's this trackingpoint tech, there are improved laser wind measurement devices for assisted aiming, and there's DARPA R&D on guided bullets.
All this points to an near-future era of mass sniperization. I'm not sure what all will change in warfare. But I think this is kind of a big deal when anybody off the street can make trained sniper distance shots. This has been an elite skill that took constant training to learn and maintain. The other thing that mystifies me is how so many liberal shits actually think the economy is going to improve now that Obama's power grab is complete. Because massive debt, Weimaresque inflation, and confiscatory taxation always cause economic booms, right?
Will the media keep denying reality? Or will the liberal shits find some way to keep blaming Bush? I do think that conservatives need to start setting up secure lines of communication now. Not some damned web site which could be monitored or shut down in minutes. Something genuinely secure. It'll be too late when the economic death spiral sets in. Another time, I got sent to an article at Slate or at some other place that I can't tell isn't Slate, and I thought it was an amazing right-on down-to-the-last-adjective then-burn-the-ashes parody of people I know who are people like Lena Dunham. And then of course I noticed that her name was on it, and it wasn't a joke. So... My current working theory is that at the moment of my death, everything that ever ruined one of my previous days will be compressed into a single annoying event that lasts forever. In a foul mood. I recognized after disabusing my early-70s dad of certain notions regarding policies and politicians that I am now in the position of guiding the man who helped guide me out of libtard confusion. I listen to myself, and I'm having difficulty not feeling like some Soviet zampolit reinforcing proper thought, even though I know damn well I'm just dispelling bullshit.
I hate the Left. I hate what they're forcing on us. I hate what they're forcing us to do in return. I hate how they're making me feel. All that hate hurts. It's not...well, it wasn't me, but now? Try as I may I can't let it go. I hope they all burn in Hell for it. And I hate myself for thinking it. I try to think of other things, but they just. Won't. Leave. Us. Be. They shove it in everything. There's fewer refuges now to catch a bit of a break and keep some sanity, and it's wearing on me. But human nature being what it is, we enjoy dominating and imposing our will on others. And this goes double for that special breed of human called the politician. Not when there's "toxic waste" suddenly "discovered" on it. That's where you step in and magnanimously offer to "remediate" the "problem" if the unfortunate owners of that horrible liability sign it over to you under EPA duress There's lawyers in cahoots with EPA who run this scam constantly to steal people's businesses and land. I know, it happened to my dad and we lost the plating business over it. The lawyer who took possession removed a single barrel of dirt and voila, the EPA's multi-million dollar "cleanup fines" just suddenly vanished and he's left with the business, buildings and land. But the "reasons" are the same ones you already demolished. It's the "team" thing, they aren't doing it because it makes sense, but because they're "on the team." Anyone looking for cheap digs in NY state that has a portable or semi-portable job should look at rural upstate.
There's some pretty cheap houses up there in the little rural towns that even with insane property taxes would still be affordable. I've actually done this, but taken to a more extreme level (think: mountain man packing all posessions, international hitchhiker, working skilled trades for cash only), but decades ago. Just post-Nam Carter Era. Back then, there was much less Computerized Bureaucratic Red Tape. Today, though, let's just say you should forget about applying for jobs that require any kind of Clearance Levels for at least the next 7-10 years. How do you list people you know for required interviews of neighbors? How about supplying continuous street addresses that match residency records? What about records of utility payments? How about any job applications that ask for personal references at a professional level. How about your credit history? Might not be a smart decision these days, living on the move to that extent. Nah. The world has changed too much since I was in my 20's-30's. You whippersnappers have it harder these days, so try to maintain a place of residence, or at least a close contact with a relative if possible, if you're actively looking for work. If you are young, stupid as I was, and have itchy feet, though, forget all this crap, and go for it. Live it! Watching the 12-12-12 concert on tape delay, um, pixel delay. I wonder where I could find out who all's in all the backup bands. Spotted GE Smith playing bass and guitar for Roger Waters, Eric Clapton just had bass and drums, didn't recognize either one. Plus, it must be Telecaster Night, where Fender was giving them away: haven't seen a Strat except for Slowhand. Seriously, though... the reason the Mayan calendar ends next Friday is because the Mayan system of drawing calendars works on a 500-year cycle. Why would the Mayans of 500 years ago have even bothered drawing up the next calendar cycle, which wouldn't even start until 500 years later? They had the next 500-year cycle written down already.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and declare that the world will not end next Friday. If I'm wrong, nobody will know, anyway! And if I'm right, I get to gloat. It's another application of Pascal's Wager! Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler (@ProthonotaryW) at December 13, 2012 12:26 AM (RLZvP) 400

So.
Was in the mood for some Pizza... Hungry Howie's website says this local store is closed for 18 hrs. (Yeah, I thought it was a weirdly specific, message too!) Called them up. But how can you trust ordering pizza from a location that the web-portal singled out this way. So, OK, fine. I will order from Domino's, I suppose... Apparently, they have a new thing where if you want to order a Pizza, they charge you an extra $3 delivery fee which gets collected by some online company NOT THE DRIVER. Even if you order by phone you have to pay this internet company $3 to let your local Dominos Pizza shop make and drive you a pizza. There *is* a way to avoid this new "delivery fee" but that involves creating a Facebook account so that I can sign up for this new company, which I have never heard of before, so that I can get on years worth of free delivery from some outfit I STILL can't fucking figure out is now all involved in ordering a fucking pizza! "So, the delivery fee goes to the driver, right?" "No, that goes on your credit card and goes to the delivery company. You still need to tip your driver." The old "balloon framed" ones from the mid/late 1800's go up like kindling unless they've had insulation blown in and fire stops installed.
In stock form, there's a straight shot from basement to attic through the stud bays. The place I grew up in was built in 1880 and had brick firestops in the walls in various places. The phenomenon was apparently becoming well known at that point. Brick fire stops work well...until you want to get some wire through them ;-> Posted by: @PurpAv at December 13, 2012 01:16 AM (MOQU2) 497

Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at December 13, 2012 01:31 AM (4+0nx) I thought about it for a second and I went to look at some online "worst car" articles. They seem to be universally ignorant and awful and derivative. Mostly they mistake "worst" for unpopular, or just list the obvious cars that didn't sell well, or whatever. Not one of them so far even had an old Skoda or Trabant. I'm sorry, Fiero and Cimmaron? Not very popular but not even as bad as an old Fiat or Triumph. I've driven cars worse than anything on the lists I saw. It begins to remind one that journalists pretty much just make shit up and don't do research. Thus, my plan to get $4.67m USD by way of an advance on the deliberate application of my creative ouevre:
If I have this straight, other than the fact that it forms part of a list found on one page, the subject of Ms. Dunham's upper pubis, including whether or not it appears to suffer from a distinct lack of exercise, and whether it's currently forming it's own Weight Watchers' chapter, does not appear to have exhausted any significant portion of said '66 page outline' (or "outline" ... or "66" "page" "outline"). So now, I think we all have to consider the parameters of discussion on said 'fat upper pube' region, in the sense of how many pages it would take to either exhaust the subject or the reader. Since this is already becoming significantly deeper and more involved than anything, and everything, found in Ms. Dunham's "66" "page" "outline", I am currently considering submitting it as a draft "idea for an outline", which final product, qua outline at least, can reasonably be expected to exceed that of Ms. Dunham in terms of organization, social utility (I envision my book, if not my outline, coming with it's very own Obamacare approved and papally [or Pay Pal-ly, I haven't yet decided on which] blessed heavy duty condom dispenser, currently on special order from Popeil's Pocket Products at an estimated retail price of 124.95 USD plus sales tax), tattoos only some of which move the typical observor to dry heaving, and hetero-sex appeal (which I envision achieving through regular bathing and dental hygiene, plus covering up the more prurient pre-existing tatoos ... sorry, Denise). I've already alerted my shyster and my bankster to make extra room for the royalty payments that will soon threaten to inundate my home quadrent. For moving air, your normal sleeping breaths tend to re-inhale some of your exhalation -- with CPAP, you're getting a fan blowing new air in all the time, so you re-inhale hardly anything. New air is more dry than exhalate. Then you have the "under pressure" bit. If a liter of air can absorb 40cc of water by evaporation, 1.1 liters of the same air can absorb 44 cc. This is not as big a factor, being that the pressures aren't that much over the ambient air pressure -- but when it comes to oral humidity, every little bit counts. So, I was killing time while the BH visited "the ladies'", and I noted that -- of all weird and strange things -- Henry Weinhard's now has an IPA. "This I've got to experience," says I -- so I grabbed a 12-pack. Folks, this is Coors using Cascade hops. It has the flavor profile of an IPA, but not the intense hoppiness. It's like a mildy-IPA-hopped lager. I'm going to post this and get a glass to see if it's straw-yellow. Posted by: cthulhu at December 13, 2012 03:04 AM (kaalw) 627

Yes. Did you wake up feeling claustrophobic? More sort of surreal / restrained. I guess. Does your machine make you feel that way? Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at December 13, 2012 01:59 AM (m4Ar0) No. Or rather that went away extremely quickly. I almost never sleep without it. And I'm a tosser and turner. You have to kind of ignore them and try different masks and mask types. They push nasal masks like they were getting a $200 bonus, but I had to go with a full-face mask because superglue and duct tape could not stop me from breathing through my mouth. Mind you, the machine dries out your mouth and destroys your teeth, but at least you don't stroke out from lack of oxygen. ...... Thanks for the feedback. After much tossing and turning the nurse came in and chatted for a while. She said she knows exactly why I wake up. She's not supposed to talk to me about results but just spoke for a few minutes about the benefits of the breathing machine, so I think I know what I'm in for now. When you look at the list of stuff that sleep apnea contributes to, you wonder how anyone with it survives past 60......and then, you start to think that 60 was once a ripe old age. I suspect that treating apnea will probably add another decade to your potential lifespan -- and it will be a productive, alert, reasonably healthy decade. My grandpa made it to 83. England used to brew different beers for different purposes -- and you might have heard "a pint's a pound, the world around" and "the sun never sets on the British Empire." So they had a beer they'd brew in England for their boys in India. It had to survive shipping, so they'd boost the alcohol and hops (both being preservatives) but keep it light so you could drink it in the heat and dust. (Khaki, the color, means "dust" in some Indian language.) Anyway, when the beer revolution started to get momentum, all these old styles got revived, and IPAs became quite popular. 599 The reaction to CPAP that I thought was most amusing was: before CPAP, I'd get up about 4x per night to take a leak.....after CPAP, slept the night through.
Turns out that there's an "idle setting" on your kidneys that they go into only when you're in deep sleep. If your airway collapses every time you go past "light sleep" and you rouse, you don't get there -- so your kidneys are powered-on-full all night. ...... No. Way. When I turned 40, one of the "presents" I gave myself was to actually find a doctor that wasn't an absolute waste of oxygen. So I asked people I knew and looked around and went through the process of finding a good one. He wouldn't take me if I didn't have a physical for a baseline......I was 40 years old and hadn't had one since I was in my teens. During this, I talked about my fatigue and sleepiness and fuzziness of thought....and got kicked over to a sleep specialist immediately who had me in a sleep study in weeks. Oy, that's saying something. Though now that I think about it, my guess is that Lena is actually smarter than Megan. The problem is that, as the man says, she's has such a pretentious, nauseating, cloying precociousness that you just want to back-hand her pimp style. Megan on the other hand, is also a narcissistic, self-absorbed princess who's never worked a day in her life, but in the end is just too much because she's vapid and banal, and beyond reasoning with because she's stupid and, more importantly, doesn't have to be reasonable. Maybe you've heard her dad is a rich-ass Senator. But she is cute and has giant titties and I think I can safely say we all respect that. So, on balance, I take Megan over Lena because of her raw sexuality, whereas Lena has only the prospect of fat upper pussy fat to offer. I would suggest they be roommates except that people like that obviously do not have roommates. Having someone else around, even another dim-witted, naval-gazing twit like one of these two, would cut far too deeply into their "me" time. With regard to Lena Dunham, hershow Girls was promoted so heavily on cable that I thought I would watch it to see what the fuss is all about. I don't know how I preservered through to the end of the season because it was so dreary. Yes, it wasn't much about girls in general but a lot about skanky sex. The show may limp for another season but I don't see it going on further than that, it's just too depressing. It's nowhere near Sex and the City.

I'm confused, is Dunham teh ghey or not?
Also, stinging nettle pills work wonders for that peeing-during-the-night thing. Posted by: BlueStateRepub at December 13, 2012 10:56 AM (7ObY1) 696
RE: Lena. Lets just do pron already and stop the fucking footsie. Seriously, the contortions HBO is going through to be provocative and sexual is worse than the pool guy with the perpetual boner problem and the lonely housewife set up.
Those fuckers at HBO giggle at sex like a fifth grade boy looking at his first real "titty." This shit isn't titillating for real people. What makes it "hot" for the sexually confused assholes at HBO and their sexually retarded viewers, is the mix of political taboos with sex. I have never been fooled by this shit. The sex and "provocative" topics are done as a burrito shell for the political indoctrination and propaganda stuffed inside. It's crack for low information voters and another reason why we should... Here's the upside, morons: we'll have oodles of fun writing scathing and / or faux-swooning reviews on Amazon for her magnum opus. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars at December 13, 2012 02:18 PM (Jcd0S) 699
Why is anyone surprised? I've totally lost count of the number of sad dull little Dunhamesque chubbies I've gotten away from by pretending to see somebody across the room I needed to talk to. Certainly dozens, probably hundreds.
