Lena Dunham Is Gonna Get $3.7 Million Dollars For This Crap
In case you've never heard of her Lena Dunham is the 26 year old Obama-loving creator of HBO's Girls - and pretty much the embodiment of everything Morons despise. It's like someone took the worst sockpuppet caricatures from all the comments and distilled them into one supremely annoying life form.
Here's just a sample from her Wikipedia entry:
Dunham was born in New York City. Her father, Carroll Dunham, is a painter of "overtly sexualised pop art", and her mother, Laurie Simmons, is a photographer and designer who creates "disquieting domestic tableaux" with dolls. Dunham's father is Protestant, and according to Dunham, a Mayflower descendant; Dunham's mother is Jewish. She has a younger sister, Grace, who is a model and student at Brown University and who starred in Dunham's first film Tiny Furniture. As children, both Lena and Grace were babysat by photographers Sherri Zuckerman and Catherine McGann. Dunham attended Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, New York, where she met Tiny Furniture actress and Girls co-star Jemima Kirke. She graduated from Oberlin College in 2008, where she studied creative writing.
Recently she just got a $3.7 million dollar deal from Random House for a book of her musings on sex, travel, diet and pubic fat. And this deal was based on a 66 page outline consisting of instagram pics, her diet diary, and apparently a lot of 'nauseating and cloying precociousness'.
Well Gawker got a hold of the proposal and mocked it to shreds. When Dunham's lawyer threatened to sue them, they had to pull the proposal and edit her quotes into deliciously cruel fair-use versions. It's Gawker (I know I know) but this is some beautiful schadenfreudtastic blue-on-blue action.
Fully 13% of the proposal's pages are devoted to reproducing a diary Dunham kept of what she ate in 2010. And she intends to devote an as-yet-unwritten chapter to "a collection of emails that screw the pooch, jump the gun, and terrify men." Also, Dunham thinks she has the "beginnings of a FUPA (fat upper pussy area)" and wants to write about that, in her book of advice for women.
I'm pretty sure you could get 66 pages of better material by cherry-picking the better satire in the comments here during any two week period. But then we're not "rare literary talents" with all the right connections, credentials, necessary politically correct views, narcissism and lack of shame to pull this off with a straight face either.
Obama May Hide Any Fiscal Cliff Tax Hikes From the Public
Because whatever the law says the person who actually collects the taxes from each paycheck effectively determines the tax rate.
The White House has the power to temporarily protect taxpayers from middle-class tax hikes even as upper income rates rise if Congress does nothing and all of the Bush-era tax rates expire in January.
Experts and lawmakers alike agree that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has the power to adjust how much is withheld from paychecks for tax purposes - for all taxpayers or just for some.
And if you make over $250,000, your withholdings WILL go up:
...Experts believe Geithner could even go so far as to adjust withholding to reflect the White House's preferred policy - higher rates on the nation's top 2 percent of earners and lower rates on everyone else. In fact, Minarik said the president could even use withholding as leverage in negotiations with Republicans if it came to that, using the tables to argue he is protecting the paychecks of the middle class.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle acknowledge Geithner has this power, even if they hope to be productive enough to make it irrelevant.
And lest you think Obama's tax hikes are just for the rich it turns out that they've defined 'rich' down to anyone in the upper 20% i.e. making over $75,000 a year:
Affluent people are much more likely than low-income people to have health insurance, and now they will, in effect, help pay for coverage for many lower-income families. Among the most affluent fifth of households, those affected will see tax increases averaging $6,000 next year, economists estimate.
Or at least a very, very good shot by letting a computer decide when to actually fire the rifle.
TrackingPoint claims that their patent pending Intelligent Digital Tracking Scopes (tracking scopes) will allow an unskilled accurately hit long-range targets. I'm torn on this - on one hand you do want to pass on info on cultural topics and actions to avoid in order to keep from offending Afghanis. On the other hand the very fact that our soldiers have to be so careful to avoid remarking on the barbaric, benighted practices of a backwards people or they might be killed makes me wonder why we're even there.

All this points to an near-future era of mass sniperization.
I'm not sure what all will change in warfare. But I think this is kind of a big deal when anybody off the street can make trained sniper distance shots.
This has been an elite skill that took constant training to learn and maintain.

Might not be a smart decision these days, living on the move to that extent.
Nah. The world has changed too much since I was in my 20's-30's.
You whippersnappers have it harder these days, so try to maintain a place of residence, or at least a close contact with a relative if possible, if you're actively looking for work.
If you are young, stupid as I was, and have itchy feet, though, forget all this crap, and go for it. Live it! Follow your nose, learn from your mistakes, and appreciate those things you get when the world so rarely smiles on you. Those few times will reward you all your remaining life.

Being the dork I am I looked at the out buildings and acerage to find the value. The house is likely crap but a trailer is cheap. Though I bought in the area for a house with no out buildings so it's likely jeolosy why that one looks good at half the price I paid.

Apparently, they have a new thing where if you want to order a Pizza, they charge you an extra $3 delivery fee which gets collected by some online company NOT THE DRIVER.
Even if you order by phone you have to pay this internet company $3 to let your local Dominos Pizza shop make and drive you a pizza.
There *is* a way to avoid this new "delivery fee" but that involves creating a Facebook account so that I can sign up for this new company, which I have never heard of before, so that I can get on years worth of free delivery from some outfit I STILL can't fucking figure out is now all involved in ordering a fucking pizza!

"No, that goes on your credit card and goes to the delivery company. You still need to tip your driver."

Apparently, they have a new thing where if you want to order a Pizza, they charge you an extra $3 delivery fee which gets collected by some online company NOT THE DRIVER.
Even if you order by phone you have to pay this internet company $3 to let your local Dominos Pizza shop make and drive you a pizza.
There *is* a way to avoid this new "delivery fee" but that involves creating a Facebook account so that I can sign up for this new company, which I have never heard of before, so that I can get on years worth of free delivery from some outfit I STILL can't fucking figure out is now all involved in ordering a fucking pizza!
"So, the delivery fee goes to the driver, right?"
"No, that goes on your credit card and goes to the delivery company. You still need to tip your driver."
"Uhm, I need to pay a new $3 delivery fee to a totally separate company that no one in your specific store will ever see?"

They seem to be universally ignorant and awful and derivative. Mostly they mistake "worst" for unpopular, or just list the obvious cars that didn't sell well, or whatever.

It had a crap interior and it never had enough power, but there are a ton of them still around and the GT actually looked kind of interesting and unique.
If I were rich I might not have a few exotic cars but rather several interesting cheap cars to see how much I could "upgrade" them. That might even include an 88 Fiero GT. Maybe with a Porsche transmission and an LS1.

You have to kind of ignore them and try different masks and mask types. They push nasal masks like they were getting a $200 bonus, but I had to go with a full-face mask because superglue and duct tape could not stop me from breathing through my mouth.
Mind you, the machine dries out your mouth and destroys your teeth, but at least you don't stroke out from lack of oxygen.

Been there, done that (twice). Discovered scary numbers for O2 level overnight, and nasty numbers of sleep interruptions -- which is substantially better after CPAP (actually BiPAP -- my prescribed air pressure is on the high side). It may suck now, but it is worth it.

Claustrophobic? Nah.....but then, I was doing SCUBA before I got it and had many happy times while doing so. It's actually a plus that it ritualizes your sleep prep -- you become conditioned to go to sleep when the mask is on and you're settled in. The biggest negative is that it drastically limits half-asleep cuddling with your significant other.

A lot of 'em have humidifiers, which can help mitigate that -- but no matter how you slice it that's a pain-in-the-ass. I've sort-of given up on my humidifier for the time being.

Turns out that there's an "idle setting" on your kidneys that they go into only when you're in deep sleep. If your airway collapses every time you go past "light sleep" and you rouse, you don't get there -- so your kidneys are powered-on-full all night.

I think the movie that helped me decide it wasn't worth it to watch a
total piece of shit just for nudity was Sirens. It had Elle MacPherson
and Portia DeRossi, as well as a couple of other really good-looking women, getting
all sorts of naked, but it was a lousy movie apart from all that choice nudity, and
it felt overall like a waste of my time.

You get two effects: moving air and air under pressure.
For moving air, your normal sleeping breaths tend to re-inhale some of your exhalation -- with CPAP, you're getting a fan blowing new air in all the time, so you re-inhale hardly anything. New air is more dry than exhalate.
Then you have the "under pressure" bit. If a liter of air can absorb 40cc of water by evaporation, 1.1 liters of the same air can absorb 44 cc. This is not as big a factor, being that the pressures aren't that much over the ambient air pressure -- but when it comes to oral humidity, every little bit counts.

Never thought anything about it before I got my test and then machine. If you have someone who sleeps next to you ask do I stop beathing? If not get a sleep study or get a camera to see if that's the problem. It is a comfort (for me) to have a machine that makes me feel not so tired in normal society.

So, I was killing time while the BH visited "the ladies'", and I noted that -- of all weird and strange things -- Henry Weinhard's now has an IPA. "This I've got to experience," says I -- so I grabbed a 12-pack.
Folks, this is Coors using Cascade hops. It has the flavor profile of an IPA, but not the intense hoppiness. It's like a mildy-IPA-hopped lager.
I'm going to post this and get a glass to see if it's straw-yellow.

After much tossing and turning the nurse came in and chatted for a while. She said she knows exactly why I wake up. She's not supposed to talk to me about results but just spoke for a few minutes about the benefits of the breathing machine, so I think I know what I'm in for now.

Get a sleep test.
When you look at the list of stuff that sleep apnea contributes to, you wonder how anyone with it survives past 60......and then, you start to think that 60 was once a ripe old age. I suspect that treating apnea will probably add another decade to your potential lifespan -- and it will be a productive, alert, reasonably healthy decade.
My grandpa made it to 83. I think he could have made it to 93 with CPAP.

IPA = India Pale Ale. England used to brew different beers for different purposes -- and you might have heard "a pint's a pound, the world around" and "the sun never sets on the British Empire." So they had a beer they'd brew in England for their boys in India. It had to survive shipping, so they'd boost the alcohol and hops (both being preservatives) but keep it light so you could drink it in the heat and dust. (Khaki, the color, means "dust" in some Indian language.)
Anyway, when the beer revolution started to get momentum, all these old styles got revived, and IPAs became quite popular.

My gramps had congestive heart failure. I firmly believe that dipping his blood O2 every night due to apnea was driving a great deal of that.

My docs said the CPAP (and the adaptation/acclimation from having Apnea) might have been the only reason I survived the virus that tried to kill my heart and knocked me down to 12-15% ejection fraction.
They were shocked I walked into the hospital instead of being carried (at least when they finally figured out WTF was going on like 15 hours later).
The machine takes a big load off your heart when you're sleeping, if you already have issues it might well save your life, depending on what the issues are.

I know of marriages that broke up over it (probably fragile in the first place). On the other hand I know of people who found it a great relief if an inconvenience.
I was friends with (almost kind of sort of dated) a lady before I got sick who turned out to have a fear of medical equipment from events surrounding the death of a loved one.
After I got sick I wouldn't lumber someone else with my shit life.
But yeah, it doesn't help.

Yeah, got mine about 10 years ago.....and I'm pretty solid about that because of the circumstances.
When I turned 40, one of the "presents" I gave myself was to actually find a doctor that wasn't an absolute waste of oxygen. So I asked people I knew and looked around and went through the process of finding a good one. He wouldn't take me if I didn't have a physical for a baseline......I was 40 years old and hadn't had one since I was in my teens. During this, I talked about my fatigue and sleepiness and fuzziness of thought....and got kicked over to a sleep specialist immediately who had me in a sleep study in weeks. Within a month, that was wildly improved with CPAP.
I turned 50 this year, and consider my 40th "present" one of the best I've ever received.

Yeah, there is immense amounts of obvious graft going on with this stuff -- I just ordered a mask 12/12 under insurance from Apria. I plan to order the same mask from cpap.com or cpap.net tomorrow, and another one from amazon.co.uk -- and we'll see which one has the best landed cost. It's scary what sort of market distortions are driven into the US medical field.

Test removing it using acetone (nail polish remover) first and then alcohol - if those fail, soap.
Most of the pads use an acetone-soluble adhesive.

Oy, that's saying something. Though now that I think about it, my guess is that Lena is actually smarter than Megan. The problem is that, as the man says, she's has such a pretentious, nauseating, cloying precociousness that you just want to back-hand her pimp style.
Megan on the other hand, is also a narcissistic, self-absorbed princess who's never worked a day in her life, but in the end is just too much because she's vapid and banal, and beyond reasoning with because she's stupid and, more importantly, doesn't have to be reasonable. Maybe you've heard her dad is a rich-ass Senator. But she is cute and has giant titties and I think I can safely say we all respect that.
So, on balance, I take Megan over Lena because of her raw sexuality, whereas Lena has only the prospect of fat upper pussy fat to offer.
I would suggest they be roommates except that people like that obviously do not have roommates. Having someone else around, even another dim-witted, naval-gazing twit like one of these two, would cut far too deeply into their "me" time.
