Roger Simon and Wife Pen New Play About Walter Duranty: "The Party Line"

Seems interesting.

He says it's neither conservative nor liberal, and I believe him, but there is hardly any question that no liberal would explore the question of what happens when a large group of people begin subverting the truth for political purposes. Well, they wouldn't explore this going on in a liberal institution. I'm sure they'd explore it in, say, the conservative movement.

And that's part of the problem right there, isn't? Liberals style themselves truth-tellers and truth-seekers, but as we're seeing yesterday and today, they embargo truths that aren't helpful to the Great Patriotic Cause of Progressivism/Marxism.

19 At the time, many Western observers who attended the trials said that they were fair and that the guilt of the accused had been established. They based this assessment on the confessions of the accused, which were freely given in open court, without any apparent evidence that they had been extracted by torture or drugging. Joseph E. Davies, the U.S. ambassador, wrote in Mission to Moscow:

"In view of the character of the accused, their long terms of service, their recognized distinction in their profession, their long-continued loyalty to the Communist cause, it is scarcely credible that their brother officers...should have acquiesced in their execution, unless they were convinced that these men had been guilty of some offense.* It is generally accepted by members of the Diplomatic Corps that the accused must have been guilty of an offense which in the Soviet Union would merit the death penalty.

I'm sure they'd explore it in, say, the conservative movement.

Yeah, but that's not how we roll. Truth is what it is, a mature person can handle it. We are Reality and Truth based, and there was a time when the entire country (or at least a majority of it) was this way also. We didn't shy away from the truth, harsh though it was sometimes.

Our biggest hurdle is getting the truth out there. It's increasingly the MFM's job to suppress it, or failing that, to twist it into something unrecognizable.

76 re: "Great Patriotic Cause of Progressivism/Marxism"

This is just a peeve I guess, but really, Marx would not be down with much of what actually happened in Russia (or China, or...), and Duranty-era propagandists (and most since then) for "Marxism" are propagandists for the regimes of Actually Existing Socialism.

Marx was a shitty dude, but he was a serious political philosopher with some interest in human liberty--and he was frequently not wrong. He wasn't a Leninist/Stalinist/Maoist or a Fabian/progressive/fascist or a Ceausescu/Castro/Minh any-dictator-who-claims-to-be-a-commie-is-cool type, as "Marxists" (self-described and accused) almost universally are.

I understand why the Marxism/AES conflation seemed useful (to all sides) back in the day and became a habit, but it doesn't work. At least not for the good guys. "Marxists" can easily and rightly deny being Marxist, and they don't mind being called Marxist (though they prefer "Marxian").

The conflation is "anti-intellectual." It stops a thought. And it's a thought "Marxists" want stopped, so they can proceed in (and out of) His Holy Name.

Dictatorship over the proletariat is not the objective or end this system professes to seek, as in the case with Fascist ideology. The fact of dictatorship is apologized for here. It is justified on the ground that it is a realistic expedient, resorted to only to protect the masses of the people, until they can themselves rule under a system where ideologically the individual and not the state shall be supreme. Moreover, there is no doubt of the present sincerity of this regime in its desire to maintain peace."

I'm sure the movie is interesting, but the one-continuous-shot gimmick was used by Hitchcock in "Rope", back in the early 1950s.

More recently, the film "Russian Ark" was done in one continuous hundred-minute shot. It's an amazing achievement, given that it had a cast of hundreds of actors, all in period costume, who had to be choreographed through the Hermitage while the camera was running. And they had exactly *one day* to make the movie. It is an *amazing* flick.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

I am so tired of the PSAs for the Red Cross with various celebritards telling us to text and donate $10. First tell me how much money they've personally contributed and then I'll think about it.

When Alberto Gonzales was attorney general he was hounded out of office for something that was not even criminal. The current attorney general ignores voter intimidation, lies to coverup the deaths of law enforcement agents, and engages in clear racial preferences and he's in like Flynjn. Yeah, both side are equally guilty.

He then turned into perhaps the biggest pompous douchebag the world has ever known.

205 "What's left to be done?"

Apparently, a lot. I just don't get this. NY and NJ are NOT third world countries, but seems they are being treated as one as a concert is needed to raise money.

Hello?

This is the United States. We don't need that.

Or maybe both those States can't exactly afford to bail out or cover the costs of re-building.

However, from my point of view, I'll be damned if I give any red cent to any of those states.

206 More 'wisdom' from Ambassador Joseph Davies in 'Mission to Moscow.'

"I expect to see this government, while professing devotion to Communism, move constantly more to the right, in practice, just as it has for the past eight years. If it maintains itself, it may evolve into a type of Fabian socialism, with large industry in the hands of the state, with however, the agricultural and smaller businesses and traders working under capitalistic, property, and profit principles."
pg 415-416

"Summary III
The weaknesses in the system are many and apparent. Communism will fail here. Human nature cannot be changed in two generations. The system is now a type of capitalistic state socialism.

208 You know, every time I read something like this, especially lately, I keep thinking of that famous Far-Side cartoon, the one with the two vultures sitting on a tree branch above a desert, and one of them is saying to the other:

"Fuck it. Let's kill something."

I might have embellished that a little. But I just keep thinking of it, because I am getting really, really sick of this shit.

The guy who runs this business used to work with me at Rockwell and we hung around together a lot when I was living in CA in the early 80's.

His truck had a pitot tube and anemometer on the roof. He never locked its doors and it never got robbed.

He kept a baby bottle full of diluted white paint and diaper smeared with peanut butter on the front seat.

A car burglarizer would look at that and decide they'd rather not get a schnoz full of shit smell and go rob some other car.

He also had a Cincinnati Milacron milling machine in his bedroom that his wife didn't object to ;->

They have an excuse for everything
