uthorities in Hudson County notified ICE agents in early October that they suspected Sanchez was an illegal immigrant who was a registered sex offender and who may be eligible to be deported. ICE agents in New Jersey notified superiors at the Homeland Security Department because they considered it a potentially high profile arrest, and DHS instructed them not to arrest Sanchez until after the November election, one U.S. official told the AP. ICE officials complained that the delay was inappropriate, but DHS directed them several times not to act, the official said.
It was not immediately clear why federal immigration authorities would not have been notified sooner about Sanchez's status.

There's so much weirdness in this case ... but here's something that's been troubling me:

Why the fuck is the Department of Homeland Security involved in this case at all? How could the possible deporting a illegal immigrant who's a known sex offender possibly involve Homeland Security in any way, shape, or form?

And, by the way, just who are they to be telling the ICE what and what not to do?

Menendez is a corrupt SOB; but then, he's a Democrat, so we knew this already. But the DHS must be dismantled. Immediately.

207 Hey Ace - did you even bother to read the linked story? The sex offense conviction came from when the young guy was a JUVENILE, meaning the records would have been sealed and no way even a U.S. senator's office would know of it. Secondly, as to the young guy's immigrant status: he was a frickin' UNPAID intern, Ace, so immigrant status isn't actually something that's likely to come up unless it's obvious, which this one apparently was definitely not. And that thing about 'waiting til after the election'? Two things: that's standard DOJ instructions for ALL US attorneys, and only the Sonny Bush folks ever broke those, in 2004; and besides, they never asked Menendez what to do, rather without ever asking him they didn't tell him about their concerns with the dude until after the election ... whereupon Menendez let the guy go.

Man oh man, Ace: are you ever desperate to get you beak wet over an Obama administration scandal.
