3 OT from yesterday...

So my youngest stepson is now at Parris Island learning how to be a Marine. The first thing my wife does when we get back home is look up the pay schedules for the Marines. An E-1 with less than 2 years of service makes $1516/month which she think is entirely too low (~$18k/year). She thought they made around $30k/year. I told her that figure may be true for a higher ranked enlisted with some years, but for someone who is a newly minted Marine, the actual pay is considered low. I told her what she's forgetting is the other benefits that add to the total compensation: uniform allowance, food, lodging, others I don't know about. That adds to the $18k a year. I also reminded her that enlisted don't pay for that, officers, however, are expected to since they make more money. And finally, I told her that no one stays an E-1 forever, unless they're a total fuckup. He'll be promoted and his pay will increase accordingly.

She's just worried like any mom about her baby boy living on his own.

There is a news correspondent up on Canada's conservative news site Sun News TV. Brian Lilley.

He seems to be friends with Glenn Beck and the folks at Breitbart.

Canada is facing the same problems that the US is, in terms of liberal indoctrination, etc.

Last night, he had Ben Shapiro on from Brietbart about how to fight back the culture war. The setup segment and Shapiro's segment were both worth watching. Also, Brian Lilley has a blog where he lists organizations (in Canada) to join to counter the heavily organized and funded organizations on the left. This is also what Bill Whittle suggested. A counter culture. Take back the institutions that made our country great.

Here are all the links -- both videos are worth watching:

35 Oh my gosh, Ken Burns out pimping his new movie about the 5 falsely accused black teenagers in the Central Park rape (which he says absolutely crushed them and ruined their lives).actually said this in an interview:

[Burns] Basically both are instances where society deems someone an "other" and treats them as such, contrary to the actual facts of the case. And you can also compare the Central Park Five to the Duke University lacrosse players, three rich white boys who were mildly inconvenienced by rape charges that proved to be false. In no time the prosecutor of that case was fired, disbarred, and put in jail, and the three ended up getting a huge settlement.

OK, I'll grant you that, but Crowder actually offered the guy a choice between jail time and an MMA-style match. I don't think that is Crowder's choice to offer. Assuming Crowder has the moral edge from the apparent events shown on the video, I can't see him gaining anything with this non-offer.

Responding to President Barack Obama’s critique of right-to-work laws earlier this week, Gov. Rick Snyder emphasized that the state’s right-to-work bill is about worker choice.

“This has nothing to do with collective bargaining,” Snyder said in a Tuesday interview with Fox Business. “I, in fact, believe in collective bargaining. This is about worker freedom.”

56 Jedi Religion The Most Popular Alternative Faith

In other words, "While we are dedicated to exploring the depths of our spiritual selves, we reject the concept of organized religion. Belief in either a single divinity or a pantheon of interwoven Gods is a fallacy concocted by credulous, gullible people centuries ago as a way to explain away life's difficult questions. Perpetuation of a myth is unbecoming of modern society and should not be encouraged.

"Also, we believe that enough meditation will allow us to lift rocks with our minds, shoot laser cannons with pinpoint accuracy, and that our blood is teeming with little critters called midichlorians, whatever the fuck those are.

"But yeah, organized religion is for feebs."

I would be hard to explain now just how big an impression the sitar and tambla made, for about a year, year-and-a-half there. I've been told that's Vinnie Bell on "Green Tambourine."
