Jimmy Hoffa: We're Going To Have a "Civil War" in Michigan

In that case I would advise conservatives -- don't retreat, reload.

Jimmy Hoffa, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, said Tuesday he expects Michigan unions and lawmakers to break out into "civil war" after the state legislature passed right-to-work bills that would weaken unions' power.

"This is just the first round of a battle that's going to divide this state. We're going to have a civil war," Hoffa said on CNN's "Newsroom."

As Usual, The Media's and Democrats' Civility Police Are In The Donut Shop When They Have an Opportunity To Police Their Own Side: Actual violence won't even make the news tonight.

50 You know what would have helped unions not get to this point?

Staying out of politics.

Unions are really good for nothing these days. Nothing except funneling money to Democrats.

Generally speaking, you'll take home more money if you are not part of a union (employers pay more because they don't have to work around union work rules, plus you keep the dues) and unless you're that fatass lazy sack of crap that stays in the same job for 30 years, you get screwed over by the union.

I was an unwilling member of the AAUP as a grad student. When negotiation time came around, the union was perfectly happy and content to tell us that the full professors got a 10% increase (!) and the rest of us? Well, they were still negotiating.

Hell no. And it doesn't mean there are no unions in RTW states.

Per some local message boards, the GM plant in Shreveport, LA, is a union shop because the union publishes the names, addresses, work shifts, etc., of everyone who does not belong to the union but works at the plant.

They also scheduled at least one strike a few years back after management fired a guy for getting caught, on camera, pissing into a $10m machine and complained when "uneducated rednecks and cajuns" were hired as scabs during the strike.

I don't believe they had any comment when it came out that the scabs' production was far better than that of the union members.

Simple, Lansing does have a university, but it's land grant (read: agriculture and engineering-focused and generally less wacko) and although UW is land grant also, it's also the flagship university so it's got all the wussmanities too.

Basically, the protesters in Madison were all hippies from the university. In Lansing, they don't have the same numbers.

Also, it is probably finals week there and there's only so far that the students will go to sacrifice for the working man (who they sneer at for not reading the NYT).

187 Great--

The Fire Dog Lake version--

Earlier today AFSCME reported that 10,000 people showed up at the state capital in Lansing to protest the passage of Michian’s “right to work” law by the Republican dominated state legislature. Why anyone thought it was a good idea to throw up an anti-union tent in the midst of that is anybody’s guess, but Americans for Prosperity did, and the video above shows it being torn it down.

Update: Marcy Wheeler reports that “witnesses say the Americans for Prosperity people were trying to provoke union members to violence, and witnesses reportedly saw AFP people loosening the ropes on the tents so they would come down.

Update II: Chris Savage from Eclectablog says that Americans for Prosperity tore down their own tent, and promises video soon:

He's a Democrat, right? It would be odd if he hadn't done something illegal/unethical.

Posted by: DiogenesLamp at December 11, 2012 05:41 PM (bb5+k)

197 Choom Boy is loving this. He'll step in and give Hoffa and the rest of the union thugs everything they want, pulling out one of his patented Executive Orders to make it right for the unions.

Despite what the "bring. it. on" crowd seems to think, we have nothing to say about this. Nothing. Remember who won the election? He has troops and government drones to spare, and is probably eager to use them.

Get used to the violence and threats. It will not be safe for anyone who isn't fully down with Team Osama Obama.

198 Be careful about "Tony Cummings". A certain "Tony Cummings" was a union guy, but NOT IBEW, which this guy probably is... based on his Artie Fufkin Silk Baseball Jacket.

Then what are we? "At will" is part of the employment language.

Posted by: fluffy at December 11, 2012 05:41 PM (4pSIn)

200 #182, they would have done nothing. Tony Cummings was acting in vanguard. alone.

there were maybe 10 violent old fat fucks there.

this is all hindsight, I'd have peed my pants, of course, but if the crowd were going to jump in, they'd have jumped in then.

The only other guy to be worried about was the guy who grabbed crowder @ 1:00 mark. Not a good view, but he looked tougher.

But, for crowder's credit, he seemed pretty pleased with getting it all on tape.

Posted by: joeindc44 wonders if anyone has any advice for the GOP at December 11, 2012 05:41 PM (QxSug)

201 Wisconsin, Ohio, and Minnesota, too.

We should be able to turn the entire midwest RTW. Except for Illinois cause of Chicago.

Won't happen anytime soon in Minnesota.

Our current Dem governor Mark Dayton is a committed union puppet. He vetoed at least one bi-partisan bill because the unions disapproved.

I seriously doubt it would pass a ballot initiative, either.

Posted by: Hollowpoint at December 11, 2012 05:42 PM (SY2Kh)

202 so, the slow mo puncher is named tony cummings

Sounds like a pR0n name. I suspect the difference between the actual pR0n star of that name and the union goon is about six inches. The pR0n star probably beats him by that amount in both height, length, and girth.

Posted by: Schrödinger's cat at December 11, 2012 05:42 PM (feFL6)

203 Crowder did great. Chipped tooth is enough damage to take. No point ending up in intensive care from a mob attack.

Mob attacks are especially bad because of the high likelihood of being hit in the back of the head - which is easily fatal. Wild mob kicks and punches are much worse than one dude hitting you in the face.

Union riot would have left Crowder in intensive care. Crowder handled it
correctly.

Indeed, outside of the Detroit-Ann Arbor axis, Michigan is pretty Republican / conservative. And throw in Flint as being Democrat too.

One reason why Michigan State (East Lansing) and University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) are such rivals. Even though they are not that far apart physically, the culture is completely different.

Western and Northern Michigan are very conservative and that shit in the capital will piss those people off. Don't be surprised if a bunch of Michigan people show up in few days with shotguns in the gun rack of their pick-ups and counter demonstrate. A lot of people in Michigan are very pissed at the way Detroit has been grotesquely mismanaged over the years, and are pissed about the UAW being perceived as chasing a lot of autoworker jobs out of the state. Which they have.

In the two elections during 1932, the Nazis only got 1/3 of the vote; communists got another third; the parties supporting democracy got the other third. The unions mostly supported the communists. Hitler got the idea for street gangs ( including brown shirts and red armbands ) from the unions / communists

You should read "Leftism Revisited" by Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn, and forwarded by William F. Buckley. He states that the Nazi Flags were originally made by sewing Swastikas over the Hammer and Sickle of the Communist party flags they used in previous demonstrations. That's why Nazi flags have a red background.

He pretty much traces the entire History of all known socialist movements and show how they evolve and interlink with each other throughout History. The Nazis and the Communists were originally the same group, which split into two factions. That's why they hated each other so virulently.

It's a perfectly apt comparison. Hitler wanted people to believe that his party was socialist (and it was, there's no denying it) just like the Communist states want people to believe they're populist.

Posted by: AmishDude

Depending on the state, Amish, the client and lawyer don't get that big a chunk. For instance, in Oregon, the state gets 75% of the award and the lawyer can collect no more than 15% or so (I'd have to look it up). It's also taxable for the client.

it's not really a jackpot at that point, and as someone else mentioned, the State Farm case limits punitives to a single digit ratio (meaning no more than 9:1 punitive to compensatory damages). In physical injury or nominal damages cases, that ratio can be exceeded, but that is the exception, and the lion's share still goes to the state.

That was one of our Big Hints that the "paranoid loonies" were dead on.

***

We subsidize the purchase of "green" cars for the wealthy but had a shitload of used cars that poor folks could have used to find work were destroyed. Instead, they became even more dependent upon the state as they were forced into public transport.

It almost seems a crime against nature to take a working piece of machinery and destroy it.

That poor Volvo, and a Ram truck in another video, simply refused to die. It was awful to watch.

Volvos are not that great, but that engine actually is. Could have saved someone else a metric fuckton of money if they did boff one up.

Just seeing people destroy useful things - it's like some sort of sick perversion of civilization.

Thanks for the info. That's good to know. Still it strikes me wrong as a means of the state getting a criminal prosecution without the burden of a criminal standard.

438 Hitler was a whatever he needed to be at any given moment.

Ernst Rohm was a gay right wing fascist. SA/free-corps were a mishmash of right, left and anarchist psychopaths.

Strasser bros were hardcore socialists.

Night of the Long Knives saw to it that both Otto and Ernst Rohm got whacked.

439 Can anyone tell me, when does the MI law take effect? And has Snyder signed it yet?

Posted by: entropy at December 11, 2012 07:09 PM (YUttk)

440 Not only did Cash For clunkers destroy a lot of usable machinery, it also had a ripple effect on the industries that maintenanced those vehicles, the suppliers of auto parts, the trqnsportation companies delivering part, the manufacturers of said parts and the economies that support them.

Call it a ripple effect, or unintended consequence, I guess. I saw first hand some of those effects.

444 When they start finding castrated, flayed Union thugs nailed to trees, I'm going to laugh. And no, this isn't a call for violence, it's a desire for popcorn.

445 I live in Michigan and I was pleasantly surprised at what the legislature & governor did. I say to Hoffa, bring it. Of course they will do nothing but make a lot of noise.

446 Remember when using the word "target" was a conservative bad. And, it meant soliciting violence?

451 Oh my -- turned out Ace, you and morons all got punked:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rt6I8BrQCVY

No arrests; not even one.
No even COMPLAINTS to the police; despite that a MSP officer was there on horseback right by the tent the whole time.
No police report.
No injuries.
No COMPLAINTS of injuries.

Y'all been punked (unless, of course, any of you actually WANTED to be punked like this).
