Au Revoir, Bitches: French Actor Gerard Depardieu Moves to Belgium To Avoid Punishing Socialist Taxes

Sacre bleu!

The Socialist government under French President Francois Hollande has infuriated many ultra-rich in France by presenting a 2013 budget that would tax top earners at 75 percent over the first €1 million of annual income. Belgium's top rate is 50 percent.

Mayor Daniel Senesael of Nechin, about a kilometer inside Belgium near the French city of Lille, said that "in our conversation, his reasons were also other than those about taxes," RTL radio reported.

I'm going to guess that "avoiding socialist taxes" is not one of the permissible reasons for immigrating so of course he talked up Belgium's rich history of nothing at all. I don't want to call bias on nothing at all, but I'm wondering why AP included that claim.

I told her hey that was fine, sovereign countries are sovereign and all that, but how did Canada expect to defend themselves against Putin. Her response was a very blithe oh the US would protect us, you'd never let something like that happen.

109 Just to repeat a little-known fact:

The US is the only country that taxes your income on the basis of your citizenship. All others that tax income base it on your residency. Therefore, many high-income Brits and now French are establishing residency offshore.

For example, I am living and working in Canada. All my earned income is Canadian sourced. I don't personally own any real property in the US anymore. If I never returned, and never earned a single penny of income in the US, I would *still* be liable for US income taxes every single year for the rest of my life.

You can't use Depardieu's strategy if you're a US citizen. You are taxed on your worldwide income jus the same as if you made it in the States.

1. In a corrupt state, laws must be numerous.
2. All laws are underinclusive and/or overinclusive. Read: loopholes.
3. A reasonably intelligent person willing to make a modesteffort can identify and expoit the loopholes to great advantage.
4. Such exploitation undermines the corrupt regimes which implement such laws for the intended benefit of their parasitic constituencies, which is most satisfying.

161 America doesn't have the same problem where the high tax states are losing people.

Well, at least we're not going to report or keep track of it any longer.

---

So the movements of the most fundamental productive components of the economy — taxpayers — can be analyzed by journalists and economists, or could until now.

The IRS and the U.S. Census Bureau (which provides technical support in reporting tax migration data) have not made an official announcement as to why the program is being discontinued. So we are left to speculate why such vital economic statistics suddenly got canceled.

Tis a headscratcher. I can't think of any reason they would discontinue this practice.

--S'ok. Lemme break it down.
1) Sheer numbers: The number of people floating over from Cuba is miniscule compared to the number of illegal Mexicans crossing over. This is a big difference. Our social services can absorb a few people coming over every now and again. It can't sustain the numbers coming over from Mexico in the expectation of receiving those serivces iwthout paying.
2) Cuba is a dictatorship; Mexico is not. We expect Cuba to oppress its own people, so we welcome escapees as refugees. Mexico is a sovereign democratic nation that is expected to take care of its own people and coordinate with us in diplomatic ways. Mexico is now using us as an illegal escape valve for their own economic problems, but it is not admitting that to us; rather, it is blaming us.3) Cubans floating over on a makeshift raft are probably not smuggling drugs. Of course, many, perhaps most, illegal Mexicans aren't smugglers, but a large number are. (Cf. numbers issue)

It's not about WHERE you are coming from, necessarily, but HOW you get here and your status. If you jump the border, you are here illegally and want to join the Free Shit Army as well as be used by La Raza to subvert our culture. Those from south of the border are generally dirt poor, illiterate (even in their native tongue) and have no desirable skills. That's not to say that people like that who come through normal channels and want to be citizens legally should be turned back out of hand. But we should be much more selective especially considering the state of our economy.

My mother had to wait 4 years to get here after going through the hell of death camps and death marches. But she didn't jump a border or sneak in. She came here the right way and assimilated and became an American.

Our chattering clique of drunken Military types came to two conclusions; one, that it would have hastened the Soviet Unions' collapse to sometime in the early 60's or two, we would have nuked each other sometime in the 50's.

for the west, he was a very well-off doctor by Communist standards. He

Back in the '70s when the "socialists" took over Jamaica, the same thing happened. Jamaicans leaving the country could only take a limited amount of money with them. The well-off started hiring people from other countries to come in and take their money out since they weren't subject to the same laws. My stepfather grew up there (he is American) and he made a couple of trips to help out some of his friends.

Tax the rich blind. Hmmm where have I heard of that grand plan before?
Have no fear Barry will have it work right this time. I'm sure his
Hollywood pals and Buffet just can't wait to pay higher taxes.

Say what you will about Mike Huckabee, but when he was governor, he pulled one off. He set up a special fund and told everyone that felt they weren't paying enough taxes to send in a check to that fund. After the first year, there was just over $1000 in it. He made his point.

I have been to several places in Europe and, one to one, the people were very nice to me though I never discussed politics and I was there to see the sites.

But, in general they are anti-American and the anti-semitism that has infested Europe for over a thousand years is now more vocal and strident than at any time since the end of World War 2. I have yet to see Italy so I will try and get there before the whole shithouse goes up in flames. After that, LET IT BURN!!

269 254 The good thing about living on the economy in Germany during the 80's is that I was fortunate enough to be around people who truly appreciated us for what the U.S. had done for them. Some of the friendliest people in the world. But, the youth were born after say 1950 didn't really care about all that. I'm sure 27 years later it has gotten much worse. So that is why I believe that we should leave and let them fend for themselves.

Japan. Samey same. The generation that had direct memory of the War, LOVED us. A good friend, who was an exchange student prior to my overseas time and I got the chance to hook up with numerous times (lots of drunken fun was had by all, trust me) at his home in Hiroshima. Every pub crawl we ever did involved us getting into discussions with members the 35-45 yo set wanting to re-arm and team up with the US to get rid of China.

I bought very few beers. I loved it there. Excellent people.

It sure seems that way.

271 This is why the progressives want one world government. They actually

believe socialism will work if the successful have no where else to go.

272 There's the brutal irony. The Free Shit Army takes what it has never earned because they "deserve" it or some such shit.

---

It's quite simple.

The guys that built it didn't build it but the guys that didn't earn it earned it.

273 I think Hercule Poirot beat him to the punch.

275 Back in the '70s when the "socialists" took over Jamaica, the same thing happened

I had a neighbor who vacationed in Jamaica several times a year whenever there was a week or two gap between the start of one large commercial tiling job and end of the last one.

His vacations were always money makers. He did small time smuggling of electronics to the island which paid for the whole vacation. All he had to do was pay off the local police chief with a laptop on each trip and he was protected.

Jamaica is very corrupt, but in a good way that allows for profits.

>That's just fucking heartwarming. Thanks for sharing the brighter side of corruption. Hey,I heard your mom has cancer but, on the bright side, you got an inheretance when she died a long, painful death. It's nice when chronic illness can be profitable, cuz that's all that really matters anyway.

277 And the fuckers didn't so much as say thank you once.

I have been a guest of the Belgians, in and around Henri-Chapelle.
They say thank you a lot, and very graciously. So, bad joke.

The industrial revolution began there FWIW.
Charlemagne was from there.
Plus there's that kid peeing in the fountain.

Belgian is famous for FRENCH FRIES! Yes! They sell them on the street from carts. They put all these weird toppings on them, melted cheese, mayo, or beef stew. I can remeber all the toppings there are so many.
