Jason Whitlock's Pretty Sure That Broccoli Is Racist

Crying racism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

By his own admission, Whitlock made a "mistake" in comparing the NRA to the KKK. But anyone else who notices that mistake is a "racist" for doing so.

O'Reilly invited him on to his show, Whitlock refused, and then O'Reilly knocked him as a coward. You can say whatever you like about this tactic of O'Reilly's -- but it's clearly not racist. He does it to everyone.

But Whitlock reaches for that Special Card.

But it appears I was summoned to testify before Speaker of The Big House Bill O’Reilly, the FOX News entertainer. O’Reilly is fixated on the mistake I made on the Tom Joyner show. O’Reilly spent part of his Tuesday show telling his viewers that I was afraid to come on “The Factor” and discuss my views on the NRA, the Second Amendment and gun culture.
I’m a grown-ass man and it’s 2012. I don’t have to shuffle off to the Big House when summoned. O’Reilly is not Boehner, Pelosi or Obama. He’s a TV entertainer who has spent the weeks after the election crying about the end of “white establishment” America, the end of the days when an upstanding white man felt entitled to summon whomever he wanted whenever he wanted to the Big House to dance.
I don’t dance.

Racism is the new Ladies' Troubles. A general excuse for not doing stuff you don't want to do, and a sort of icky area no one's going to probe too deeply about.

"That Broccoli Is Racist" is an old Andrew Breitbart joke, by the way. He suggested that as a name for a show starring Toure. The concept was that Toure would just point out random objects and accuse them of being racist. I imagine the credits would begin with him accusing the broccoli.

79 a couple of weeks ago there was a sports station on in the back ground and some white man was interviewing a black man and the black man was upset because if a white coach has a bad season or 10 they keep getting chances to pull it together and get to keep their job...but if a black man is coaching he gets on or two seasons at best to prove himself and then he is fired...and that is representative in the racism in the nfl.....all i could think of is how many women coaches are there? what about the handicapped cripple asians? i never see them getting a chance to coach.....

It actually is better than you surmise. NASCAR and IRL do make stops at the Kansas Speedway, which is on the outskirts of Kansas City. In addition, the city is home to the College Basketball Hall of Fame. It doesn't have NHL or NBA, but its MLS team is excellent.

Here is the skinny. I grew up with Jason Whitlock. I knew him having played football with him (Jeff George was our quarterback). He was a year ahead of us at Stonybrook JH and Warren Central HS. He grew up without racism, conflict or poverty. We were a middle class community with a pretty good school system and a representative cross section of races in eastern Indianapolis suburbs. He was an ok guy with moderate intelligence who never really faced any controversies he didn’t create.
What is really tragic and somewhat despicable is that for the past 15 years or so he has decided to morph into a race-baiter akin to JJJR and Rev Al. It’s how he makes his money. Having never actually experienced any real racial issues of his own makes what he peddles even more repulsive.
Remember to read his “pieces” through the prism of truth about JW. He is just another snake oil salesman. Ironically, he wrote a good piece about the black quarterback culture which puts those average quarterbacks into untouchable protective bubbles (see Rush) of which they ALWAYS burst and crash. JW doesn’t understand (or maybe he does which is worse) that HE is the beneficiary of the same favoritism and untouchable status from the politically correct media complex based entirely on his color, not his mediocre talent.

Don't read Reilly all that much, but Simmons used to be pretty decent. He would throw in the occasional 'political' comment, but it wasn't all the time and was at least usually funny.

In this case I think the same concept could apply. I'll call it reaching down. Costas "reached down" to Whitlock's incoherent piece to give his own point of view some credibility...and emotion on TV. But by reaching down to Whitlock, he linked himself to a race hustler and lost control of his own image.

Now Whitlock calls the NRA the embodiment of the KKK, whatever, but Costas is still linked to this mess because he dredged him up into the limelight after most responsible sports guys were staying away from Whitlock after the Jeremy Linn/asian comments.

I'm sure Costas is cringing with every new comment from Whitlock and is greatly regretting the "shout out."

I would continue to go after Costas and as him about everything Whitlock does. This tactic worked well for the Obama following the Akin comments. Pin this story on Costas, keep Whitlock in the news - this is a political story. Ask Costas if he thinks Bill O is a slave master. These are the little cultural battles we conservatives have been losing for years. Time to turn it around.
