| Hey, Let's Seceede Or Start a Revolution... Said the Left in 2005This is a good point: Although liberals are laughing at conservatives' frustrations and the very human responses to it, they themselves experienced similar frustrations, and had similar responses to them, after Bush's reelection. This is an important point: 96% of the reason conservatives are viewed as "weird" or "extreme" or what-have-you is that the media, controlled by the left, covers-up/embargoes their own excesses (and, when forced to report upon such excesses, supply a lot of "context" which justifies these excesses), but of course loves reporting similar conservative statements (without any justifying "context," needless to say). It hardly needs to be said, at least on the right, that Jonathan Chait was not pilloried as a "hater" for his infamous "Why I Hate George W. Bush" column. Instead, it was celebrated -- among the left, I mean; they didn't broadly report it to the general public -- for how it so daringly captured the real feeling of the left. Needless to say my own "Why I Hate Barack Hussein Obama" column would not be celebrated as "daring," "honest," "bracing," or "cathartic." It would be a hate crime and a symptom of possibly dangerous impulses. This is what I hate more than anything else: the hypocrisy, the division of citizens into two classes, the Privileged Class, which has a broad license and range of liberty, and the Disfavored Underclass, whose liberty is sharply restricted. And they'll call themselves patriots and Sons of the Enlightenment. They're Sons of Gramsci and Sons of Marx and Sons of Mao, not Sons of the Enlightenment. Yeah - but it's not just about the process and bystanders, like Cary Tennis or Chait. Our weirdo candidates (Akin) are made to define the entire party, while the crazy talk of their weirdos is embargoed. Obama's 2008 "guns and religion" statements to San Francisco donors were embargoed, while Romney's "47%" comments led the news cycle for three or four days.

I'm from a traditionally Republican state (Virginia) but live in New York City now. It really bothers me to go home and listen to people talk about Tea Partiers like they're weirdos, which is not a reflection of the Tea Party being weird, but rather a function of these Upper Middle Class people wanting to seem like they’re anti-status quo and hip for being “Liberal” in a place where the Tea Party is relatively large. You want to see Liberal? Come to New York City. That watered-down BS you think makes you countercultural in Virginia is nothing in NYC. You want to be countercultural? Be a Tea Partier in NYC. I think the most dangerous messege out there from the Left, is that all cultures are equal....
Once you take Good and Evil, Right and Wrong, out of your cultural measurment system, you stop DEFENDING what is good and right about your OWN culture. Thus, here in California if I say anything agians La Raza? I'm the bad guy.... thus we have Women groups who do not say anything about Islam... thus its the "gun culture' and not the Black hip hop gang bang culture which leads to violence.... This post, tied in with the last, which I finally found time to read (was making a lovely BLT sandwich) is a screed to get out of the box. Get out of the box and enjoy life while out there. Ace: My discussion along these lines is not really directed at the average conscientious conservative as far as taking action. It's really directed at people who fund and organize conservative causes. It's a suggestion that perhaps we have enough think-tanks and alternative media of the same basic types and perhaps we need to start thinking about other important forms of expression we've been overlooking. No kidding. I saw someone reference to creating yet another think-tank in a previous thread and thought good grief, THAT's all we need. I want to point to this video/concept one more time. I'm not a Whittle fanatic, but lately, he's been poking my soul with a deeper meaning of life and a way around all of this phony politicking (and the stress Ace and many of us feel). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s02SypCcYIc It's long, and disjointed, because it's just after the Romney loss, he seems tired, and his thoughts aren't coalesced, yet. But, what I take away from it is this. Go live the life you want to live, with rules you make. Create the environment/culture/life outside of all of this bs we are now living in. It's a parallel society in some sense, but he makes it clear it is NOT going Galt. You still need to live within the means of the laws as they currently exist -- like paying taxes. Just walk away from the rest of the bs, create the world you want to live in. Institutions. Research and Development. etc He's on to something big -- not just creating another conservative think tank. This is something I could actively engage in, and although my career has been all that I had hoped for. I have thoroughly enjoyed what I have done throughout my life. This could very well be the next phase of my life. Very fulfilling. Posted by: beach at December 07, 2012 02:15 PM (LpQbZ) 52

"16 Burn the media first." This. It is essential, if we're ever going to have a chance, to take out the media in it's current form. This is done through calling out and embarrassing on-air personalities and producers, by having facts of past transgressions on hand when interviews are conducted. An organization like the Heritage Foundation has the resources and research assets to supply the preparatory material to conservatives prior to appearances. We can't just fight the political side without dealing with media. Posted by: jwest at December 07, 2012 02:20 PM (ZDsRL) 71
Have you seen this? Not sure who wrote it but found it in my inbox and thought it was well written. Well, It's official; I don't know anything.I thought for sure that given such a clear choice, Americans would vote for love of country over revenge.I was wrong.I thought, that just as every presidential election in my lifetime, the bad economy would be hung around the incumbent's neck, sinking him.I was wrong.I thought that even those few Americans who were fortunate enough to still be fully employed (not counting those leeching off the public system) would be cognizant of how much pain their neighbors were in and elect someone who would at least try to make improvements.I was wrong.I thought that now that FINALLY some of the disturbing truths about our first black president had come to light, voters would reject a man so dangerously at odds with the American experience.I was wrong.I thought the 2010 elections and the Tea Party meant something.I was wrong.I thought the enthusiasm on display at Romney/Ryan events, contrasted with the lack of same at Obama/Biden events meant something.I was wrong.I thought Americans would never sell their liberty for the sake of trinkets like cell phones or even big shiny lies like 'free health care'.I was wrong.Never in a million years would I have supposed that America would support a president who left his (our) people to die at the hands of our enemies overseas without lifting a hand to help, then lie about what he watched in real time for over two weeks, then lie about the lie for another month.I was wrong.I thought Americans could tell a hawk from a handsaw.I was wrong. We were offered the clearest choice we've had since 1980, where we had malaise and a misery index on one hand and a shining city on a hill on the other. Back then, we chose the city on the hill. This time the choice was between a man who says 7.9% unemployment and $4.00 gas is the new normal and a guy whose entire career has been about fixing broken entities. We chose to stay broken.. And Broke. Maybe, I'm wrong about the ramifications of this choice. Maybe, windmills will actually turn out to be a viable energy source. Maybe, America diminished will be loved overseas. Maybe, a nuclear Iran won't be a threat. Maybe, Israel is over reacting. Maybe, western civilization was always over rated. Maybe, life under sharia is fun. Maybe, when the rest of the world realizes that we have no intention of ever paying back that $16,000,000,000,000.00 (and counting) that we've borrowed from them, they won't devalue the dollar, causing hyper inflation here at home. Maybe, China will just keep on giving us money and not demand our hearts, souls, national monuments and marriageable daughters as payment. I've watched my candidates lose elections before, but I've never felt the way I did November 06, 2012 when this one was called for Obama. It wasn't bitterness or sadness or even disappointment. It took me a while to figure out what it was. Then it hit me; it was horror!!Pure, unadulterated horror! Not because of Obama, but because of what it says about us, the American people, that we chose this.It shouldn't have even been close. Faced with the choice between taking charge of our destiny and tackling our financial problems, we opted to get high and have sex. We re-elected a guy who doesn't understand that a growing economy that creates more tax payers will bring in more revenue than higher taxes. A Commander in Chief who doesn't know our military still uses bayonets. A man who wants to control the economy without even knowing the difference between bankruptcy and liquidation. It was one thing to elect an unknown quantity, buying his line of 'Hope and Change'. It's something else to deliberately choose his failed policies over someone who has actually achieved success in life. I never dreamed America would do that.Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, Hello Idiocracy!Goodbye, recovery.Goodbye, energy independence.Goodbye, religious liberty.Goodbye, liberty and justice for all.Goodbye, American dream. It profits a man nothing to lose his soul for the whole world, but we threw ours away for cell phones and birth control pills. In the twentieth century (the American Century), we stepped up to the plate three times and saved the rest of the world from fascism, nazism and communism. We were the cavalry, always riding to the rescue. Now, we've gotten rid of our horses, spent all our money on windmills, alienated our allies, bowed to our enemies, cut ourselves off from our own natural resources thrown away our children's birthright and spent their inheritance. And, we did it on purpose. When the wolf is at the door (and he's coming, yelling 'Allahu Akbar') we're going to find out that there is no one out there to come to our rescue. On the bright side maybe, it'll all turn out great? After all, I don't know anything! Posted by: Big AL in CHGO at December 07, 2012 02:20 PM (iWo0u) 72

As soon as their oldest went to university (recently), the liberal ideology spewed forth. Brainwashing is easy on the young. And, it's very hard to shield them. Offering this up for consideration again: let's stop calling the 'pubbies the GOP. They are not a Grand Ole Party. They are a bedraggled, dazed, drunken, slothful, lugubrious, pompous and obese party. There is nothing grand about them, and there hasn't been for quite some time.
Drop the moniker, or change it entirely. I recommended DOP (Dead Ole Party) yesterday, but anything will do. Not only would it serve to let the 'pubbies know that a LOT of the base is no longer with them, but it would force the left to realize that it's not going to be business as usual anymore. This is the result of losing the culture war.
Think of all the things that are considered "good" by the left, pot, promiscuity, homosexuality, socialism, abortion, euthanasia, gun control, the Kennedys, which are actually destructive to the individual and society at large. They encourage these behaviors in the masses, while not partaking in them themselves for the most part knowing them to be destructive. At the same time they label as "bad" American History, Christianity, gun ownership, adoption, self control, patriotism, the boy scouts, all of which has a positive effect on the individual and society at large. And because they control the levers of culture their definitions stick. We're living Orwell's reality for sure now. And we have to wrest back the levers of culture from the libs. Inoculation is a better defense than just hoping they'll never be exposed. I remember my Uncle and Aunt trying to raise their son without violence (he wasn't allowed to watch the Power Rangers, for goodness sake.) Came over to our house once, and within 15 minutes had found a box of blocks of some kind, fashioned a "gun" out of them, and was walking around "shooting" people. I do not want to secede that is the last resort. What needs to be done in order of priority:
1. Article V convention using the same voting as the previous 2 conventions. Fix all the crap and add a provision that any State that does not agree to all the provisions after ratification may exit and form their own union. (Talking about you CA, NY, and NE) This provided they agree to assume a population prorated percentage of the debt.) 2. If we can't get that because States don't agree, then work on assuming the Statehouses of all the Red States with that target in mind. There are more than enough Red States to call for an Art V convention. 3. If we can't do that then letter writing campaign to the House to "shut it down" if the Commies don't agree to make immediate significant cuts to the budget eliminating whole departments. 4. If that doesn't work start targeting RINOs. 5. Last option, burn it down. Posted by: Vic at December 07, 2012 02:41 PM (YdQQY) 152
re: "We rightly called those people crazy."
The thing is, if you were a Democrat, to get worked up about Bush, everything you thought about him had to be bullshit. He was just another Connecticut liberal Republican, totally average politician, doing totally average center-lefty stuff, pitching wars he didn't have a plan to win (like some kinda Democrat!), etc. To believe in "The Jesusland Cowboy," you had to believe. And that's crazy. There are certainly some imaginary Obamas out there who are hated/feared/etc. more than the actual guy should be, but beneath all that imagining is an actual guy who, if you're a conservative, hates you and is trying to fuck your life up. The actual Bush didn't have that relationship to the people who hated him. He liked them better than he liked the people who supported him. Posted by: oblig. at December 07, 2012 02:41 PM (cePv8) 153

Having taken Boehner’s sword, and then his shirt, Obama sent Geithner to demand Boehner’s trousers…. What should Republicans do? Stop giving stuff away. If Obama remains intransigent, let him be the one to take us over the cliff. And then let the new House, which is sworn in weeks before the president, immediately introduce and pass a full across-the-board restoration of the Bush tax cuts. Obama will counter with the usual all-but-the-rich tax cut — as the markets gyrate and the economy begins to wobble under his feet. Result? We’re back to square one, but with a more level playing field. The risk to Obama will be rising and the debt ceiling will be looming. Most important of all, however, Republicans will still be in possession of their unity, their self-respect — and their trousers. ... Jacobson: John Boehner has a choice. Participate in the destruction of the Republican majority in the House and abandon 59,142,004 people who voted against Obama, or … Choose the Christmas Strategy, and make Obama take us off the cliff. Let It Burn

I'm tired of this "let it burn" shit too, because there's not a person
here who is going to start a fire. Some have a different meaning on "let it burn" (aka let the Dems have their way and get the blame when it fails) but as Ace's post points out, we'll still catch the blame. The left lit the fire decades ago. It's since spread from a tiny smoldering ember to a forest fire in the form of runaway spending and unfunded liabilities. And the voters in it's path believe that throwing a glass of water on the approaching inferno will save them, so no need to get out if the way or take more drastic action to put it out. Meanwhile, the Dems are telling voters what they want to hear- that the firefighters are to blame. All we can do now is either slow it down a bit or let the inevitable take it's course. I have to disagree with AB, I've never met a Leftist who showed the slightest embarassment about their hypocrisy. They justify different reactions by pointing at the standing of the supposed "victims". Like AtC notes, her Lefty friends accuse her of playing victim, not because they don't think the cards went against AtC, but because they consider her priveleged to begin with and deserving to lose. I have "friends" who couldn't care less that Christians are being victimized because Christians are historically a favored class. Muslims? Outrage. Same with dick-monger Olaf here. He revels in his hypocrisy even when the facts are right in the post above. But his hypocrisy is okay because he was helping the little guy. Consistency means nothing to them. Hypocrisy is standard because the only thing that matters is the standing of the players. I just want to make sure everyone understands Let It Burn doesn't mean we go to Galt's Gulch for a few weeks, everything burns, and then we get an invitation back to restart society correctly. It's an eternity of being Eddie Willers standing in front of a stalled train. North Korea has been going gonzo for 60+ years and still hasn't "burned" full out. Rome had literal lunatics in charge and lasted for centuries. China's ruling class survived Mao and is still effectively unchallenged. Let It Burn is an acceptance of that, here, for the rest of our lives, minimum. Maybe there isn't any way of avoiding it, but for Christ sake I intend to try. Posted by: Hopped Up on Something at December 07, 2012 02:39 PM (+paCV) The possibility of civil war is the big unspokenfear in the back of everyone's mind--well, not everyone but anyone who follows the news or the culture with any depth. I get the sense GOP politicians actively refrain from even mentioning the word 'socialism' or 'socialist' when talking about President Obama or hisobviously radical policiesbecause they're fearful of exciting already heated emotions and rhetoric. It's becoming fairly clear the American right and left hate each other and 'Agree to disagree' seems to have gone by the wayside. More importantly, the two positions are sodiametrically opposed that the country can't accommodate both competing visions simultaneously, much less transition from one to the other every four or eight years. Either we become a socialist state or we don't. There is no in-between. Unless the federal government allows for a more state-based, federalist approach--which the Obama Administration would never countenance--then conflict becomes increasingly inevitable, in my view. Either we become a socialist state or we don't.
There is no in-between. Unless the federal government allows for a more state-based, federalist approach--which the Obama Administration would never countenance--then conflict becomes increasingly inevitable, in my view. >>>but Let It Burn isn't the solution.
Let it Burn has nothing to do with starting fires. It has to do with no longer putting effort into putting them out. If we were starting the proverbial fires we would say "Burn it Down" instead. English... the more you know. Dum♪ dum♪ dum♪ In either event the electorate has made it clear they refuse to acknowledge reality until it punches them in the face, kicks them in the balls, brutally rapes them, then pisses on their crying quivering heap. Since that is the case, getting them that dose of reality sooner rather than later by not trying to stop the coming collapse is in our best interests long term. So as I understand it, Let It Burn is give up.
No. It is expressly NOT that. Let It Burn says, "Don't try to stop it. Focus on what you'll do afterwards." Let it burn says that we stop wasting time, effort, and resources preventing a collapse which is inevitable, and start preparing for when everything has collapsed. There will be at least two transitional periods before whatever rises from the ashes, and we have to be in charge of at least the second one if we want to be in control of what comes after. 1- The collapse itself. We may actually already be in this state. It will be slow motion, and only after the fact will anyone be able to point to a specific time or event (if they ever can) and say, "This is where the collapse started." 2 - The dark ages. After what's here collapses, there will be a time of tribalism (for lack of a better term) where people are focused mostly on survival. Small areas will (likely) become their own governments/regions. Only after those stabilize (be it 2 years, 20, or 200), will whatever is new come together. The average "Empire of 1000 years" lasts about 200. We're due. This is off topic, but, last night I had dinner with a neighbor friend of mine, of whom I work with on a community committee. He is a gay man in his late 50s and a Obama supporter. At some point the conversation turned to the culture. He is the President of an organization that helps at risk teens by keeping them (or placing them) with families and attempting to do everything they can to keep these kids from being institutionalized (jail, mental hospitals, etc.). It is a large non-profit organization, employeeing over 1,000 and serving 24 major cities/metro areas. This past year he said they were given a list of 100 kids that were 'at risk' for getting shot at in Chicago. Of these 100 kids, 24 ended up being shot (some killed). He then proceeded to tell me that his politics made him a true believer in government solutions, until he had this job. (He's aware that I'm a christian conservative, although wehad notdiscussed my beliefs before.). He now is a true believer in the family being the best place to raise healthy people. In fact, he's zealous about it. We continued to discuss how our society diminishes fathers and deifies single mom's. All this to say I think we are making more in roads into the culture than we can see.Especially, when liberal ideas always fail. People return to solutions that work.

Heh. Nice bit of pretentiousness there. Yes standing back and inviting DOOM! so that a chance of a free society exists does take a bit more courage than continuing to do what you've done for the last 80 years and quietly shrink into irrelevancy, then to complete nonexistence. When every part of you says fight harder, it takes a lot of courage to stand back and say, no, that won't work, the best course of action is to RISK EVERYTHING and not fight at all, right now, but get ready for a much bigger fight to come. If you have a long term plan that works that doesn't involve DOOM!. I'm all ears. I keep saying that. No one seems to be able to put one together. The Left hated Bush for several reasons, most of them insipid and juvenile:
1) They thought he stole the election from Liberal Enviro-Hero Al Gore. 2) They thought he was stupid, and only got elected because of his Daddy and Karl Rove's mad manipulations and his big brother stealing Florida for him. Whereas Al Gore was a genius who had no family connections whatsoever. 3) They hate Texas, for cultural reasons. They thought "Dallas" was a documentary. Everything else that happened in Bush's two terms was then filtered through these threebasic prisms of hate. Tax cut? Only to help Daddy's rich Texas oilman buddies and pay them back for rigging the election. War in Iraq? Obviously, to kill Saddam Hussein because he tried to kill Daddy, and to funnel money to the defense contractors in the South. Reelected? Obviously because Karl Rove is evil and stole Ohio by rigging the Diebold machines or something. My idea of LiB is that we give them all they want so the general populace can see the cause and effect of a welfare state. The slow burn that has been going on for over 40 years has taught them nothing but dependency/complacency. I grew up in a time when personal responsibility was the norm. There are now 2 generations that never were taught that (some at home yes but the bulk no). The bigest example I can think of is that if a teacher punished me at school for doing something wrong I didn't go to my parents and whine unless I wanted to repeat being punished.

Let it Burn isn't petulant, it is letting nature take its course.
The house is on fire, nothing short of a metric shit-ton of water (which would destroy the house anyway) will put it out. The house is lost, let it burn. It is calm acceptance of what is brutally obvious, instead of a futile and eluded fight against something that can not be defeated. There are more takers than makers. There are more people concerned with what is 'cool' that what is smart. Too many have sold their freedom for free-shit and there is really nothing you can do about it. So...let it burn. Make it burn, on the other hand, IS a bit petulant. The house is burning, let's see what other stuff we can throw on the fire. After all, the sooner this burns out, the sooner we can get a new house. Ace has identified the number one issue and the biggest bęte noire that I have right now. (I threw in a little French for you there). It is the hypocrisy and the double standard. I don't know how we ever get around that.
Ace has been producing the most thoughtful, important analysis and commentary on the planet right now. He's my number one read and is absolutely indespensible. Have you considered writing an Op/ Ed for the Wall Street Journal, or other national publication? I would like to see these themes get a wider discussion going. Yes standing back and inviting DOOM! so that a chance of a free society
exists does take a bit more courage than continuing to do what you've done for the last 80 years and quietly shrink into irrelevancy, then to complete nonexistence. When every part of you says fight harder, it takes a lot of courage to stand back and say, no, that won't work, the best course of action is to RISK EVERYTHING and not fight at all, right now, but get ready for a much bigger fight to come. Oh yes, your statement reeks of courage. Never let it be said that you didn't have the courage to stop fighting. No sir, not this guy. When all was lost he bravely stood aside and declared to the world that he told them so. When the history books are written, they will speak lovingly of those brave souls that had the courage to quit when they were behind. Let the coin of the new realm be imprinted with their motto, "count me out." God bless you for your sacrifice. Posted by: Gristle Encased Head at December 07, 2012 03:38 PM (+lsX1) 294

I dasgree that the left is not sired by the Enlightenment. In his great book From Plato to Nato historian David Gress clearly distinguishes the English Enlightenment from the French model. The English gave us Locke and Burke and the Pitts while the French gave us Rousseau, and Voltaier, Diderot\ and Robespierre. Our poltical philosophy lows from the English model while Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Musollini, and hitler and Mao flow from the French.

It is not unprecedented that a group of patriots decided that it is futile to continue to politically fight a system that had become so biased against them that it effectively blocked all hope to gain relief and decided to roll the dice on a much much bigger fight than a simple political one. They could have continued to grind on but they didn't. In my heart I want to continue this fight politically. In my mind I know it is futile and is very possibly destructive. Still waiting for a viable alternative GEH. Let.It.Burn doesn't include giving up on states that have a fighting chance. For instance it has nothing to do with letting Texas become a blue state. It does however suggest the dysfunctional mess that is the federal government, and their enabling hopelessly blue states like my own California, and distant NY, be given exactly the pain they have fought so hard for. While the remaining sane states work to insulate themselves from the coming terror and slaughter the Gods of the Copybook Headings will undoubtedly mete out. It's a natural progression when people continue to fight for sane policies and offer reasonable alternatives. Just because it burned in Wisconsin and Michigan doesn't mean the burning was a conscious policy on behalf of wily old Bre'r Conservative to lose on purpose. >>>I think you're pointing your accusatory fingers in the wrong direction.
1. CRA I/II Fannie Mae-Freddie Mac not wall street. 2. Crony Capitalism not Capitalism. 2. Despite capitalism begetting the highest standard of living the world has ever seen you still deride it. Wealth is not money. Money is capital which one may invest, or spend on wealth. Money in an offshore trust fund still gets invested in the economy, creates jobs, gets paid to workers, who build their own wealth with it, and returns to origin typically with less than 10% of the additional value of the wealth that it created while driving the economy. When government however controls the money it destroys and wastes capital, making everybody less wealthy (see Soviet Union). Some poor people are genuinely unlucky. They do deserve help, but not in the form of forced wealth redistribution. No one in this country is denied an opportunity to become wealthy. Your position is untenable. Getting permission to build a factory in the US takes too long. 2 wages, they can pay the communist slaves next to nothing and treat them like dirt. Which is why all of Apple's design is done in the US and manufacturing is done in China. And you want to blame education? 1. Guess how much a teacher in China makes? 2. In an uncorrupted system, when someone makes something, sells that something, and then earns a profit, that person is not stealing from you. No, really, I'm not kidding. Historically, capitalism has created wealth, jobs, and technological progress.
