7 The Rhode Island story is rather interesting. Blue on blue civil war as the public sector unions realizes that every dollar spent on other elements of the free shit coalition is one less dollar for them.

It may take a while, but the left may finally learn a valuable lesson: money is a finite asset and that there is a limit on what can be spent.

Or, they will just whine to SCOAMF to bail them out.

Democrats won't ever stop trying to tax us to death. Eventually even the addled and uneducated likes of Glenn Beck will figure out there are major differences between the two political parties in this country. By then, however, it'll be far too late.

Not sure about that. Even here in Illinois, perhaps the second worst run state in the country (Congratulations, California) our dim witted governor, Pat Quinn, is engaging in a war of nerves with the public sector unions. Of course, Pat has realized that only 1/3rd of the state's public union benefits are actually funded and that the other 2/3rd has to come from somewhere else that he would rather buy votes from.

This is the problem when you build your entire coalition around free crap. The money runs out. Particularly at the state level, where you just can't fire the printing presses up (oh, I am sorry, we call that Quantative Easing).

Math, it isn't racist, homophobic, sexist or whatever.....its a bitch.

I linked this yesterday when the Daily Caller had it headlining, but in case anyone missed it.

The purging of conservatives by Boehner is dictatorial and ugly.

At least there are some brave enough to try to get Boehner out as a consequence:

Conservative group launches campaign to ‘depose’ Boehner from speakership

American Majority Action (AMA) is launching a #FireBoehner campaign. If 16 members of the Republican Party abstain from voting for Boehner as speaker in January, he will be one vote shy of the 218 necessary to confirm his speakership.

“Speaker Boehner has been an abysmal failure as speaker, and his latest purge is the nail in the coffin for conservatives,” said Ned Ryun, president and CEO of AMA. “Boehner has never won a negation [sic] battle with the White House or Senate — and he’s been nothing short of an embarrassing spokesman for the conservative movement. It’s time for him to go.”

The difference between the States and the Counties vs the Feds in issuing bonds is the States have to pay for them through some mechanism. In our State counties must first vote on the bond issue and the method to pay for it.

Our last one was a school building bond. They wanted to pay for it via a 2 cent sales tax hike. It was defeated in the general election but passed later in a special vote of 900 people.

This may have been beat to death, but it was a good read, none-the-less. The graph, at least, is worth a look at the link:

Who elected Obama?

Dr. Robert Vanderbei, a professor of Operations Research at Princeton, developed the visualization shown above by combining Democrat blue with GOP red according to popular vote proportions taken at the county level and printing the result as a 3D map in which apparent vertical height is a stand-in for the number of voters counted.

A proposed online sales tax has been offered as an amendment to the

The Computer and Communications Industry Association, a group that

businesses, “some of the most promising candidates for future economic
growth.”“We are optimistic that once the Marketplace Fairness Act is brought for
a vote, it will have enough support to pass,” said Illinois Democratic

141 Morning, all!

Considering how much pork barrel spending Japan has dispensed on infrastructure projects in the last few decades, it's easy to see how much of that must have been pure graft and kickbacks. It's absolutely ridiculous.

The tunnel collapse near Tokyo was tragic, and got next to no coverage this side of the Pacific. Why? My guess would be two things:

A) "It's Japan, not the United States, so whatever." (I'm thinking like an editor here, who doesn't want to have to deal with Japanese language media); and, more importantly

B) This is a clear cut example of how spending barrels of cash on new, shiny infrastructure projects does absolutely NOTHING to fix or ensure the safety of existing infrastructure, and certainly does nothing to stimulate the economy. The MFM wouldn't dare let that part of the story get through, lest it damage their beloved Chocolate Messiah's plans.

Absolutely. There are one or two "modern" Christmas songs I don't mind (Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" is one that springs to mind), but for the most part it's Bing, Frank, Julie Andrews and the rest who own my Christmas song collection.

To be honest I'm not even that fond of Christmas SONGS; I far prefer the religious carols. "Once in Royal David's City" and "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" are particular favorites. And don't even mention "The Holly and the Ivy" because I'll end up singing it all day long.

The holly and the ivy,

The holly bears the crown...

If I had to guess from the trailer...this looks like a variation on-

"Where No Man Has Gone Before"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_No_Man_Has_Gone_Before

The basic plot is that the Enterprise crosses some "barrier" at the edge of the galaxy and that sparks increasingly dangerous telekinetic powers in a friend of Kirk.

Psychic guy becomes more psycho as he becomes more godlike and separated from his humanity.

Hijinks ensue.

Feeding the lawyers, losing our freedom:

Some Democrats are trying to sneak through legislative amendments that would, by overturning a number of Supreme Court decisions, both codify and expand disparate-impact causes of action under Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act (regarding race and ethnicity) and Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (regarding sex). The effort has been made for the National Defense Authorization Act and is also being made for the Servicemen’s Protection Act — and, no doubt, will be tried elsewhere, too, so Hill staff need to keep their eyes peeled. These bills would be disastrous, since the disparate-impact approach to civil-rights enforcement guarantees quotas and legal challenges to a wide variety of perfectly legitimate policies that happen to have politically incorrect statistical results (e.g., being able to speak English, not having a criminal record, doing well on a physical or written test, etc.). Read more about it here and here.

Christmas is the Catholic extension of a pagan holiday -- the festival of lights -- celebrating the return of the sun after he appeared to be leaving, right up until Dec. 21 that is.

Didn't read the link, but if this is the song Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing, it has been informally called the Negro National Anthem since the thirties, IIRC. However, the word informal is the key and it was never intended to replace the actual national anthem. Present day Leftists don't bother to teach the history of Lift and use it to their ends.

It's pretty well accepted in Christian circles that Jesus wasn't born in the dead of winter. Among other things, Joseph and Mary were traveling to register for the Census called by Caesar. It's unlikely the Romans would have conducted their census in the fall-to-winter. It's much more likely it would have occurred in summer-to-fall.

Also, I don't know that the Catholic Church denies aligning their Holidays more closely with pagan holidays. Easter is truly happenstance- it just happens that Passover and the relevant pagan holiday really do fall that close together. But then you have Halloween/All Saints Day which just happens to line up with Samaihn (sp?) and Christmas (not celebrated by the Church at all in until at least mid way through the 2nd Century, AD) falling really close to the Festival of Lights/Yule.

230 For a reboot, they sure are veering into safe territory. JJ Abrams is truly destroying the franchise.

It's almost technically not a reboot. The original Spock from TOS, TNG, and the movies appeared in the new Star Trek as Spock Prime. Technically, this means that all the new ST movies are quasi-sequels as there remains a link to the old shows and movies. IMO, this was a dick move by JJ Abrams to brazenly try to link the older fans to the new fans.

What this means is that all the old movies with the original crew (Shat, Nimoy, etc) no longer happened as the timeline from the old universe has been irrevocably changed by Spock Prime's presence and interference in the new movie. The destruction of Vulcan only adds to the sea changes in the timeline. This means no STII:TSFS and STIV:TVH as Spock is on Vulcan undergoing rehabilitation after his "re-birth" from the effects of the Genesis device. JJ Abrams has permanently fucked the original universe and it's movies.

The timing of Christmas was influenced by Saturnalia, the Roman winter party, and the birthday of Mithra, the Persian god of light, both festivals that celebrated the winter solstice when the shortening of days stopped.

That was part of the plan by the church to replace the pagan religions with christianity.

The muzzies have been doing the same thing since they started. Which is why the Dome of the rock is located smack dab in the middle of the temple of the Jews.

236 Over at Instapundit he has a link to a story at LA Weekly about LA's hit-and-run epidemic.

L.A.'s Bloody Hit-and-Run Epidemic: http://tiny.cc/atjwow

...Hardwick is the survivor of an almost never officially discussed, little-researched epidemic that has a terrible grip on Los Angeles — a hit-and-run crime wave that has marched on for years while mayors, chiefs of police and other city leaders ignore it or remain ignorant of it.

There is no LAPD task force or organized city effort to address the problem, yet the numbers are mind-boggling. About 20,000 hit-and-run crashes, from fender benders to multiple fatalities, are recorded by the Los Angeles Police Department each year.

That's huge, even in a city of 3.8 million people. In the United States, 11 percent of vehicle collisions are hit-and-runs. But in Los Angeles, L.A. Weekly has learned, an incredible 48 percent of crashes were hit-and-runs in 2009, the most recent year for which complete statistics are available. According to data collected by the state, some 4,000 hit-and-run crashes a year inside L.A. city limits, including cases handled by LAPD, California Highway Patrol and the L.A. County Sheriff, resulted in injury and/or death. Of those, according to a federal study, about 100 pedestrians died; the number of motorists and bicyclists who die would push that toll even higher...
