1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Wednesday, December 05, 2012. On this day in 1933 Prohibition in the United States ended: Utah became the 36th U.S. state to ratify the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution, thus establishing the required 75% of states needed to enact the amendment (this overturned the 18th Amendment which had made the manufacture, sale, or transportation of alcohol illegal in the United States). Stupid mistakes can be fixed.

This deeply engrossing tale features a striking narrator: the town of Money, Mississippi, a site infamous in our nation for the brutal murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955. 31 "As our nation debates the proper course of action related to immigration, I hope we do so with a benevolent spirit and keep in mind the contribution of immigrants," Mr. Bush said.

The Republican president led major efforts in 2006 and 2007 to get Congress to pass bills legalizing illegal immigrants, bolstering enforcement and rewriting the rules for legal immigration. Both times, his efforts fell short — and he took severe fire from conservatives who said he was embracing a policy of "amnesty."

Still, his appeal had a strong electoral effect, helping him win at least 40 percent of Hispanic voters in his bid for re-election in 2004.
-
He lost the Hispanic vote massively, just less that Republicans usually do, and that's the best that can be hoped for.

In the last 40 years, California's non-Hispanic white population has been cut in half, from 80 percent to 40 percent. Meanwhile, the Hispanic population has exploded from less than 10 percent to nearly 40 percent -- mostly poor Mexicans.

And with that change, California went from being the state that produced anti-tax initiatives, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan to a state that is absolutely untouchable by Republicans (see Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina) and just enacted the highest tax rate in any state.

What a valuable contribution!

32 What the conservatives and Tea Party representatives should do is form their own block, hold their own meetings, choose their own leaders, hold their own press conferences. Create a parallel and more efficient structure to that of GOP leadership.

Let "leadership" do what leadership wants which is to offer capitulation and collaboration with the enemy.

34 Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Thanks for the news, Vic. That’s an interesting essay in the thread below about a nationwide civil war. I don’t know how many are like me, but I’m no Bobby Lee. If war came, I would have no loyalty to Massachusetts. Frankly, I’d settle for some targeted nuclear strikes to take out the power bases of the 47%. Yes, an evil thought, but I’m feeling evil this morning. Do any of you ever see that TV show “Pawn Stars?” Look at the white trash and ghetto scum that end up in that store; even allowing for the machinations of “reality” TV, do you think any of those people know or care about the founding principles of America? Do you think they care about anything other than their new Obamaphone or new $500 sneakers? But I’m supposed to consider them my countrymen.

Sorry. Rant off. Let’s get a little lighter. Yesterday I told you a couple of stories with Richard Harris in them. So let's have two more:

- During the filming of Camelot, Harris insisted that the love scene between Guinevere and Lancelot (played by real-life lovers Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero) be cut, since, in his mind, it detracted from the dignity of King Arthur. Studio chief Jack Warner refused, so Harris stormed into Warner's office, pounded on his desk and tried to intimidate him into seeing things the Richard Harris way. Without missing a beat, Warner got up, took Harris by the arm and marched him towards the studio gates. Oh, shit, Harris thought, I'm getting thrown off the lot!
When they reached the gates, Warner pointed to the sign above the entrance. "What does that say?" he barked.
A meek Harris replied, "Warner Brothers"
"That's right," Warner said. "And when it reads 'Harris Brothers,' then you can rewrite Camelot any way you want. But not till then."

Here's another, also of Camelot vintage:
Warner, at the time, was a dry studio, so Harris and co-star David Hemmings (who played Arthur's bastard son Mordred) made arrangements to smuggle booze in by utilizing a prop van. Their only problem was getting rid of empty bottles. They couldn't get them out through the van and they couldn't throw them away, so what could they do? Fortunately, two porta-potties had been set up outside their dressing rooms and it didn't take long before one of them was filled to the brim with empties.

As it happened, one afternoon Jack Warner himself was showing a group of distinguished Japanese visitors around one of the Camelot sound stages when a lady found herself in need of the necessary. She excused herself and stepped outisde, gratefully rushing to Harris' john. As she opened the door, the sound of dozens of crashing bottles echoed around the stage. Harris quickly escorted the woman over to the other toilet, while an embarrassed Jack Warner glared at Hemmings. When Harris returned, Warner ordered the two of them to clean the mess up. As he left with his guests, he whispered out of the corner of his mouth to the two actors, "The bar is now closed."

Now, how about a Richard Burton story?
One of the oddest movies he ever made (and that's saying a lot) was 1969's Staircase, where he and Rex Harrison played a gay couple. Harrison later admitted he never would have done the film if Burton hadn't dared him to, saying, "I'll do it if you do it."

Burton had a habit, at this point in his career, of not learning his lines, which, combined with Burton’s heroic alcohol intake, led the infuriated director Stanley Donen to pin his dialogue on pieces of paper littered around the set. At the end of one week, Donen cornered Burton. "Richard, your big scene is coming up. It's a long speech, and you've got to learn it!"

Burton left for the weekend. On the Monday morning, he swaggered his way across the set to Donen. "I've learnt it, Stanley," he said, swelling with pride. "Come into my dressing room and hear it." Donen did and Burton performed the scene. When he was finished, the director put his head in his hands.
"Richard, you learnt the wrong fucking scene. We shot that weeks ago."

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

36 Boehner has got to go. But since this is his party and not ours, we've got to go.

It amazes me that he can be so ruthless to his own side but a fucking coward against his enemies. He is the best GOP speaker a democrat could hope for.

The GOP are the Whigs. They've been aimless since the fall of the Soviet Union and before that it was aimless after the abolition of slavery. It's time for an aggressive opposition party, not a polite scapegoat party.

Boehner and McConnell will never, ever get that.

Normally, I think the airing of dirty laundry in public is self-destructive. But it is now painfully obvious that the establishment of the Republican Party is completely out of touch with the electorate that gave them a massive victory in 2010 as well as the very principles of the Constitution that is at the core of its founding.

I welcome a public intra-party war. It would re-energize us at a time when we desperately need it, as well as put conservatives in power to block as best we can whatever further destruction SCOAMF is going to attempt.

The Republican party is now a house divided against itself. And as Lincoln, the greatest Republican of all said, such a house cannot stand. And if it goes, the nation has moved from dim hopes of holding out to total darkness.

The time is now. Aux Barricades. BOEHNER MUST GO. NOW!

I am not usually a WM shopper because it's too far from where I live. However, I needed to get some items for a woman who is coming to our church food pantry today. She asked for some "Toys For Tots" for her young son. As I was looking around I heard a woman singing "Going to be with my Jesus" as she was doing her work. She is a Walmart employee. She was probably in her sixties and from her accent appeared to be from Haiti or somewhere around there. I said to her. "I really appreciate your singing. There are not too many songs in shops that have a religious there and it's a blessing to me. I'm a pastor and I appreciate your witness." She called me "sister", gave me a hug and told me about her little Pentecostal church in the heart of the city. It was truly delightful.

59 Screw it, I'm pasting it here, coz it got stepped on. Sorry for the length.
***

Hey 'roons, I seriously need some feedback on an idea.

Mark Levin said something on his show of 12/04 that totally jibes with this notion I had over at Scoops. { here--> http://tinyurl.com/a73uslq }
So far, folks are liking it, but they aren't beating it up hard enough to really test the notion, so I'm looking for the Moron horde's input. You guys will hunt anything, in season or out.

Anyhoo, Levin had Sen. Jim Demint on, and Mark said something that amazed me, really. He actually said,

"Do you agree with me--know I know it's far ahead--but for 2016 we conservatives (had) better get behind one conservative, or they're gonna pick us apart and slip somebody through."

Mr. DeMint answered, "I think you're exactly right... (some stuff about his upcoming work, also he thinks conservative principles still work to win elections) ...but most of all we need to organize, and get behind the right candidate for 2016."

Now I love Levin's take on things, generally, and I'm on the same page as he is, philosophically speaking, but I beat him up in comments at Scoop's and here and McCain's place for the "orange juice can" idea, that he started in 2010 (I believe). I said, to anyone who'd listen: "This is a terrible idea: make them fight for your vote all the way up till the Convention. Don't telegraph the RINO's that you'll get behind their guy."

Well, I think we all learned that lesson, good and hard.

So while listening to everyone on the right yammer about more hispandering, less so-cons, less neo-cons, less cons, more big government, fix ORCA, use technology, blah freaking blah, blah, blah. I just decided I'd had enough.

Early voting starts now, and I'm voting West. I'm ignoring the Republicans, I'm ignoring the polling, I'm ignoring the calls for Christie to get in and Obi-Orange Crist to come back and save us, or Jeb, or even Rubio (whatever else Rubio is--and I like him--he's NOT a restoration guy. He just isn't). I don't even care who's on the ballot. I'm voting West in 2016.

I don't care about bimbo eruptions, smears, if he gets a divorce, if he buys a boat, if he gets caught on camera drinking a Bud Light, I just plain don't give a damn anymore. Unless he's moved to the other side of the lawn by then, I'm voting for him.

The thing I like about this is that it doesn't require forming a third party. Nor does it require the effort of "taking over" the stinking corpse of the Republican party. Screw them. And screw CPAC and Anne Coulter and all the other folks that try to pull the train off the tracks every damned time. They all lost, big time, and they are now ministers without portfolio.

This time just Vote West. That's it. Nobody has to be in charge. Nobody takes the credit. We just all act. Barely requires any money. We don't even need to ask West if he wants the job. Just vote for him, and to hell with the political apparatus altogether.

60 Vanessa Redgrave is a fine actress. Her attitude towards Israel and other leftist politics is totally off putting.

I think Julie Andrews should have been cast as she should have been cast in "My Fairl Lady". She got shafted both times. Audrey Hepburn was a good actress and lovely but Andrews could have actually sung the songs instead of it being dubbed which Hepburn was not happy about.

And I really enjoy this stories about actors and movies, Mary Poppins. I enjoy the old movies; Thanks.

By my reading and comparingof the links at DoL, we haven't lost any jobs since 2008. 155 million in the workforce then, 155 million in it now. 68 Vic, I'd rent Camelot or watch it on YouTube. It looks beautiful, but it's slower than a snail in winter (which, to be fair, was a problem with the original stage musical) and Harris just cannot sing. It's not a movie I'd recommend, frankly, although Lancelot's "C'est Moi!" has funny moments. If you're desperate for a late Warner Brothers musical jones, get 1776.

And speaking of Marni Nixon, guess who her son is? Andrew Gold, he of "Lonely Boy" fame.

It should be pretty clear that the republican establishment is only an opposition party to the democrats to divide up the spoils of govt confiscation.

They stand for no particular ideology or principles, they couldn't care less about deficits or debt or tax rates, its about slicing up the biggest pie share for themselves.

Posted by: Guy Mohawk at December 05, 2012 07:54 AM (n/ubI)

71 K-Bob, I think you have a good idea except I don't know how West would get on the ballots in various states.

The parties control the primary apparatus and there are various requirements in each state(some exceedingly difficult like Virginia, if you remember). West would have to get on the ballot in order for us to vote for him, and that requires money and signatures, hence some sort of organization.

If you don't get him on the ballot in the primaries, someone else would be the GOP nominee and then he would have to be a 3rd party candidate.

I am not trying to throw cold water on your idea as I think digging our heals in early is a good idea. It's just I am unsure of the mechanics.

So unless it's impossible to vote at all, I know several folks who are ready to write in West, regardless of what happens this cycle.

As Otter said in Animal House:

"We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional
weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I

Nothing disenfranchises black voters more than voter fraud. So ID's are an excellent way to support the franchise that Republicans made sure black Americans now have (over the howls and protests of Democrats).

My great grandmother died at 95, and it was funny when she fought against us getting her a color tv versus her old black and white. To see her eyes light up when she saw the color was amazing.

Her story is like many immigrants. She was sent here all alone as a teenager to find work from E. Europe. Landed in NY's Ellis Island and all that.

Her life was, no doubt, so much richer for it in the end. With 6 great grandchildren later.

Wouldn't it be nice, just once, to try an actual conservative candidate? Of course, we'd have to have one willing to run, and I haven't seen that on the table in the last two cycles.

Rick Perry was probably the most reliably conservative candidate who had a record. That didn't go so well.

O to U ... as if the change in spelling lets the MSM off the hook for promoting the "deserved" toppling of Mubarak for the Islamist genocide of all minorities, toppling the modern Muslim governments and advanced nations, destroying ancient civilizations' historical records in favor of the UN "right" to rule the world by drone assassin and biochemical weaponry, while yet patronizing Muslim absolute monarchists. Always with the best of intentions, of course ... being their own.

There were and remain too many PC idiots mandating what's best to be submission to tyranny. After all, it takes a tyrant to know what's best for you, and resistance is futile. So stfu and pay your inflated taxes with all due patriotism. Know that your blood, sweat and tears are for global corporatist power and profit monopoly. STFU, do as you're told by the marionettes of your favorite party, whether Pelosi or Boehner who share autocratic values. US laws only apply to the plebs, not to the corrupt patrician-politicians whom fools elect (or so we're told) to uphold the Constitution but instead who fabricate new and unconstitutional laws to deny Liberty and advance authoritarianism globally.

Ugly mirror image, comparing the governance seizure of omnipotence in Egypt, the US, wherever, and the public outcry against tyranny. And the globalist MSM doing its best to control thought and profit, tyranny being the highest bidder.

150 J.J. Sefton CBD-

Besides distribution (on which I have some ideas) why would making a low-budget movie be out of bounds?

You can get good, really high quality cameras for a couple of thousand dollars. Editing (both sound and video) software is almost trivially inexpensive.

Yes, you'd need to raise some capital (kick-starter, anyone?) but I think you could do a fairly good, low-budget movie for less than a million dollars. Maybe less than half that, if you had people working on contingency.

The other option is to look up that studio behind "Fireproof" and "Courageous" and those other Kirk Cameron movies and see if they might entertain your ideas. They're primarily a Christian Drama outfit, but I think they're already fighting the culture war. If you explained that, tactically, their movies don't get much play, but a cool action-adventure flick might... they might listen.

At the very least, you have to build some tension, with a scene or two of him fighting for a hopeless cause or opposing some Powerful Fat Greedhead in Congress and emerging triumphant.

When Perry released Fed Up!, he could have announced he was considering a primary run, but hadn't made up his mind. Instead, he sat it out until after primary season had already started.

Maybe he doesn't need to start it now, but he needs to do it sooner, rather than later, if he's going to make another run at it. I doubt he will try again, but it'd be nice if he did.

No such thing as "let the best man win" without fighting dirty in Texas. Yes, it is Texas that provides an illustration of how any State Republican Party functions so eerily according to the dictates of the National Republican Leadership who hold themselves above the law, "deserving" to change party law at whim, to hell with Republican citizenry when leaders "deserve" the right to abuse and monopolize power.

Cruz argued successfully representing the State of Texas on US Constitutional grounds before the SCOTUS. His Senate pledge was on behalf of constitutional law, the outcry of Texas Republican voters. We'll see how well the constitutional lawyer sticks to his guns in the Senate. I know he'll continue to talk the talk as he walks the halls of Congress. But politics and deal making require compromise and alliances. So over time, I'm not expecting Cruz to uphold his constitutional pledge to Texans when opposed by Cornyn, etc. in the Senate. But I would like to be pleasantly surprised, and find Cruz outwitting the other snakes in the grass on behalf of the Constitutional Republic. We'll see.

What do folks think about Susana Martinez of NM?

I know very little about her, other than the few things I have read. Since she came from the Democrat Party, would she be too RINO, and not enough conservative?

Susana Martinez is a former District Attorney who became the first female Hispanic governor ever elected. She was a Democrat until the mid-1990's when she switched to the Republican side. At the 2012 Republican convention, she explained her party conversion in a prime-time address. After having lunch with a few Republicans who wanted to convert her, they talked for a long time about a number of issues. She and her husband found they were in agreement on most of the issues, and after leaving the lunch she said to her husband "I'll be damned, we're Republicans."

After winning the GOP primary in 2010, Martinez won the key swing-state by 53-47%. The state was previously headed by a Democrat. Martinez ran on a pro-legal immigration platform that promised to seal the border. After becoming governor, she ended New Mexico's "sanctuary" status for illegal immigrants who commit crimes. She is pro-life, and a strong fiscal conservative.

I hope that was sarcasm. Damn, if that would be kidding, we should all just crawl under a desk and kiss our asses goodbye. That "governor" shit is as meaningful to me now as all the crap about high negatives, ORCA not working, and starting in again on Christine O'Angle. Screw that. I'm pledging to Vote West if he ain't dead, nor me. And I'll try to get as many as possible to do the same. But like I wrote above, I'm not gonna defend the idea itself right now. I'm just responding about West as a candidate.

You know, Colonel is a very good rank to qualify as an administrator and a "personnel" issues guy. And West doesn't trip over his tongue as often as 99% of the rest of them do. And a quick look at the list of Presidents who never served in the military shows that they pretty much suck, unless you have a guy like John Adams, who was a solid supporter of the military, and actually made sure we had a Navy.

So hell no, I'm not kidding about West.

I'd appreciate you picking apart the idea all you want (like assume it was Ace or somebody), but jumping right in criticizing West is frankly kind'a odd.

231 I have an issue which really needs to be pushed.

End the anonymity of 501c3 donors.

Environmentals get to claim the high ground when they are shutting down drilling and mining. It would be helpful to know, for example, how much of the Sierra Club's money comes from the Saudis (or now, the Russians).

I would like to know how much of the Southern Poverty Law Center's money comes from people like Nancy Pelosi. Or how much of the ACLU's money comes from trial attorneys (not to mention the sweet deal they get when they LOSE a case but the government pays their attorney fees anyway).

Seriously, if political donors have to be revealed, why not donors to these groups? Are the donors ASHAMED of their support?

I really think this should be done. Transparency, you know.

I will not stand with a party of Quislings. If we want to make a political effort, it's past time we organized our own vehicle for it, because we're clearly not welcomed in the Republican party any longer.

to service-related jobs, a number that missed expectations ahead of

the effects linger from Superstorm Sandy and anxiety over the "fiscal cliff" negotiations in Washington.

They now favor MTV-style freak-shows like Honey Boo-Boo and Amish Mafia, which display bizarre values and sneer at them, and allow the audience to laugh at the subjects and feel superior to them.

317 #293, Oh, OK, add Walter Jones who is a closet liberal. Who else are we talking about here? Was there some giant Stalin-style purge that I missed?

Actions have consequences. There's a time and place for everyone to speak their minds (see: Paul, Rand), butthe House Republicancaucus needs to be as united as possible, and if that means a little reality check needs to be administered to some unruly kids, I have no problem with that. Nor do I give a shit that some rookie from Arizona thinks he has been stomped on.

The Financial Services Committee is a plum assignment because of the fundraising opportunities. But it is going to be chaired next time by easily the most conservative person EVER to head the Committee. Jeb Hensarling is the one who will decide what actual policy gets done by that Committee. AND HE WAS CHOSEN BY JOHN BOEHNER. Why am I supposed to freak out over a couple of rookies getting tossed from thie Committee?

People who are freaking out about this remind me of the old adage, "when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." When you've already made up your mind that John Boehner is an idiotdrunken RINO asshole, everything he does looks like Another Assault On Conservatives. allow politicians in Washington to spend even more, while not reducing

“Republicans must oppose tax increases and insist on real spending

So I am going to let them fuss around about this and ignore it. Boehner is chosen by the Congressmen, for reasons we do not always know. Perhaps the second in line or challengers are really untrustworthy assholes to other members. He has to be elected by a majority of the members, so you have a large coalition of moderates who also have some clout when it comes to choosing leadership.

I do think Trey Gowdy should be the spokesman for the House GOP. He is quick on his feet and takes no prisoners.
