Happy Tuesday.

Ashley Judd is seriously exploring the possibility of running against Sen. McConnell in 2014.

Meanwhile, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez denies that she's thinking about making a 2016 run for the presidency.

From the DOOM series, San Bernardino is seriously DOOOOOOOOOMED.

Iran claims that it seized another drone. Defense official says that all drones are "accounted for," which isn't actually a denial, and CNN paraphrases "whatever the Iranians claim to have, it is not an actively operating U.S. Navy drone," which isn't actually a denial either.

1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, December 04, 2012. On this day in 1783 George Washington delivered his farewell address to his officers at Fraunces Tavern in New York City. Most people forget that NYC was the capital of the US at one time. Fraunces Tavern is still there, but it has been rebuilt several times following fires and PR assholes trying to blow it up (for which nobody has ever been prosecuted.

How about a little conspiracy theory here. The Obamanites have been trying to push regulations for the internet since they have been in office. What say giving it to the UN was an end-run around Congress. The 3rd world shitholes have long wanted to silence the Internet, we are joining them.

I suspect he's looking for money for the damaged infrastructure like roads that got torn up, roads that had to be plowed by municipal crews, sand dunes rebuilt, stuff of that sort. All that expensive union overtime.

It's pretty incredible how stupid some of the people who live in flood plains actually are. The local tv had an attempt at a tear-jerk story about a young couple with flood insurance who did not realize that the first floor of their home is not covered. So they enclosed the garage, put up walls, installed water heaters, the whole nine yards. Completely destroyed. Not covered by either homeowners or flood insurance, because ONLY IDIOTS do something so dumb. So expect the 'mom brigade' to beg that rules get changed so idiots get reimbursed for their stupidity.

42 @27

That is the go to method of the politician, they have to scare the public so when the public screams we can't go without police and fire, the politicians will have cover to jack taxes.

They do the same thing in NY/NJ whenever they need to raise things like the MTA fare.

We need more money and if we don't get it we will have to implement our "doomsday"plan of massive service disruptions, etc.

It's all for the same thing, bloated and out of control unfunded union pensions and compensation.

The port authority of NY/NJ is raising PATH Fares a $0.25 for the next four years raising the fare to $2.75. They are raising the tolls on all bridges until it is $16.00 dollars to go over the George Washington Bridge for a car and about $90.00 for a truck.

This is done under the guise of "delivering better service" but it's not and since nobody can see the books of these agencies and no reporter would even think of looking into it, the people acquiesce.

These fuckers have an absolutely insatiable and unquenchable appetite for our money.

At some point in the not too distant future we all run out of money on this trajectory.

44 Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Thanks for the news, Gabe and Vic. As far as #12 is concerned - well, there was a time when I’d volunteer to slice the guy’s nuts off with a rusty pull tab, but now I just say to anyone who brings me sob stories of animal cruelty, “just think of it as a late-term abortion.” Not that that’s a slap at you, Vic, but my give-a-fuck meter has long since broken.

Here are a couple of stories:
The first concerns the actress Rachel Roberts, Richard Harris' co-star in 1963s This Sporting Life. She was fiery, eccentric and a completely foul-mouthed wench when drunk (which was most of the time). She was married to Rex Harrison, and, at the after-premiere party of one of their films, was infuriated that the gathered paparazzi were more interested in Liz and Dick than her and Rex. She clambered up on her table and screamed, "We're the stars of this fucking film!" When that got no response, she pulled up her skirt and screamed even more loudly, "Here's my pussy! Take some pictures of that!" It took a lot to fluster Harrison, but this did; he tried to pull Roberts' dress down, but she kicked him away, spitting, "Don't you talk to me. You can't even get it up, you old fart!"

But that's not the story. It seems that when Roberts really got loaded, she would impersonate a dog, getting down on all fours and barking. At a party hosted one time by Richard Harris, Roberts crawled over to a table where Robert Mitchum was telling a story. Suddenly, Mitchum felt a tug at his leg and some snarling growls. He ignored them and kept on with his story. Suddenly, Roberts sank her teeth into Mitchum's leg and began chewing his pants leg. When she'd torn through and was down to bare skin, trying to draw blood, Mitchum pulled his leg away. "There, there," he said, patting Roberts on the head before picking up an hors d'oeuvre and tossing it across the room. "Fetch!"

Speaking of Richard Harris - on the American press tour for This Sporting Life, he one night indulged in a massive drinking binge. He staggered back to his hotel room and climbed into bed, oblivious to the fact that it was already occupied by a young couple. He was in the wrong room.

"Hey!" the surprised female half of the couple sputtered. "What's the big idea?"

"I don't have one,"
replied Harris. "but if one occurs to you, by all means wake me up."

And that’s it for me. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

49 NJ has the highest property tax rates in the country.

In most towns you have to pay for all of your services like garbage, sewer, water, etc.

They also have some of the highest Natural Gas and Electric fees in the country.

They also have massive tolls on all of their bridges, tunnels, parkways and main highways.

The also have a gas tax, a small one compared to NY but NJ drivers drive wherever they need to go so they rake in billions from that

In other words NJ should be positively flush with cash but they are not, I wonder why that is?

56 And lets be clear,... the shore houses in NJ should not be there. I have not seen were the damage is, but towns like those on long beach island would never exist if uncle sugar was not there with cut rate flood ins. programs to rebuild after every storm, and massive amounts of state and federal dollars were not there to replenish the beach every spring.

The excuse is that the beaches are a resource for state tourism, but the tourists would still go there if it was only a boardwalk and portable food stalls. all the cash is going to beach front mansions.

68 re Sandy 'victims' and gubmint checks --

Anyone that signed up and said to FEMA that they were displaced by Sandy got $2800+ checks already. This amount is supposedly what the average cost of rental/mortgage for 2 months displacement.

I will now discuss my firsthand knowledge of FEMA checks and hurricane Katrina. First, you had to have a receipt proving you were displaced. Second, the checks were for around $1500. Third, the thing was fraud ridden -- we suddenly had a lot of new residents from all over the country (many of which were caught, but few went to jail for it). Fourth, many people that went to stay with friends/family or didn't leave at all got checks because they were willing to lie. As long as your address was valid you were home free.

I didn't get a check, because I wouldn't lie. But in the long run I felt good about that, because I was prepared and home insurance took care of most of my losses. If it happened today, I'd probably lie. Why should I be the only schmuck in a 50 mile radius?

As to the 100% clean-up costs -- yes, the Gulf Coast got that as did New Orleans. And guess what -- the program was riddled with corruption too. Many sleazebags got wealthy gaming the reimbursements. A few of these were convicted, and a couple even did some time.

And no, I don't think the gubmint (the rest of you schmucks) should have been paying for all this.

70 Ah, how could I leave out San Bernardino?

Re: San Bernardino, now that non-voting conservatives and other non-voting white demographics have reelected Obama and given the Dems even more power in Congress the plight of the bankruptcy city ironically stands as a microcosm of what the country's fiscal situation will look like in a short amount of years, but with the caveat that there is no Ch. 9 equivalent option for the federal government.

We've already crossed the twin Rubicons of a > than 100% debt-to-GDP ratio and a > than 5% deficit-to-GDP ratio. Social Security is poised to go bust even using Pollyanna assumptions about growth rates. Gen. Y is poorly educated, spoiled rotten and largely unemployable. Bad combination. I go to Point Pleasant a few times a year and I am sure all of the multi-million dollar homes on the water front and canals have all been destroyed, people in Kentucky, Wyoming, Montana, etc. should not be paying to rebuild those homes.

The fat man is wrong on this.

The reason he is going to uncle sugar is because he doesn't want to be seen as raising property taxes or other taxes to cover the rebuilding.

He is up for re-election and his whole schtick of being a tax cutter and line holder on property tax increases will be blown.

Meanwhile, in the Golden State:

California Democrats started the 2013-2014 legislative session today with a supermajority in both houses. In the Senate, members were serenaded by a children's choir singing "What a Wonderful World." Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg cheered when a letter certifying the unofficial election results was read.

The Sacramento Democrat addressed the supermajority power, which could allow Democrats to raise taxes or put measures on the ballot without GOP votes, throughout his address on the floor. Steinberg said that while "the voters do not want us to burst out the gate to raise more taxes," he hopes to find ways of using of the supermajority in the Senate, including the possibility of putting an overhaul of the initiative process and changes to other parts of the constitution on the ballot in 2014.

He emphasized a desire to restore in years to come funding for some state services that took deep hits as lawmakers sought to balance the budget. "Frankly I think you can focus too much on overreach because there is an equally compelling danger, it is the danger of being so cautious, so worried about creating controversy that we fail to take advantage of unprecedented opportunities."

While I agree with this, NJ is not exactly "hurricane prone." But, yes. If you live in a coastal area- get insurance against hurricanes and floods. If you live in (or very close to) a flood plain, get insurance against floods. If you live in areas likely to have tornadoes, make sure your insurance covers that, too.

It's a good idea to check your insurance every year or two anyway, to make sure it's up to date and adequate for your needs. But I don't see why people in Topeka should be forced to pay, at the point of a gun, to rebuild Newark.

136 Don't miss the movie (2012) docudrama available on disc: a portion of the 20th Century erased from memory.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1566501/

"For Greater Glory" -- In Mexico in the late 1920s, President Calles institutes a vicious ban
on Catholicism that results in many deaths and prompts retired general
Gorostieta to join the motley militia groups fighting to preserve
religious freedom throughout the country.

Just south of the border, witness what Wilson had helped set in place for Mexicans to suffer. As if eugenics weren't bad enough. The torture and murder of people for religious belief or freedom of thought is not something from so long ago, or limited to the "Old World".

Wilson isn't in the flick that portrays what came in his wake. Had Wilson stayed out of Mexican affairs and not favored Pancho Villa's
opponent during Mexico's revolution during the era including WWI preceding the events of the 1920s,
supplying the eugenicists with armaments to "own" the citizenry and force compliance to the socialist constitution, imagine how much more advanced Mexico would have been, to not have had the finest people all assassinated by the dictator P.E. Calles, promoting the worst of men to influence their situations. The sign of modernity, telegraph/telephone lines serving as crucifixes for Catholics' bodies hanging to rot wasn't from ancient Rome. I never thought well of Woodrow Wilson for his total disregard
for unalienable rights, despite sworn oaths of office, his deceits to dissolve our
Constitutional Republic into his own dictatorship, amassing his League
of Nations in order to dictate to other peoples and become the oligarchy
of the UN. See the fruits of what yet awaits, as people convince themselves that nothing of the sort is happening today.

194 MANILA (Reuters) - The strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year
pounded the southern island of Mindanao on Tuesday and about 40 people were dead
or missing, media said, after the storm destroyed homes and brought down power
and communication lines.

Typhoon Bopha, with wind gusts of up to 195 kph
(121 mph), made landfall at dawn, uprooting trees and tearing off
roofs.

About 40 people were killed or missing in flash floods and
landslides near a mining area on Mindanao, ABS-CBN television reported, saying
waters and soil had swept through an army post.

A television reporter
said she saw numerous bodies lined up near the army base. A military spokesman
earlier said about 20 people, including six soldiers, were
missing.

Disaster official Liza Mazo, said more casualties were expected
to be discovered as search and rescue teams fanned out.

Media said dozens
of people were injured by flying debris, falling trees and swept away by swollen
rivers and flash floods.

But the relatively low death toll was due in
part to an early evacuation. More than 155,000 people were in shelters late on
Tuesday.

The Queen served in a motor pool when a Princess during WWII. In her 80's, she still keeps a full schedule. In heels. Prince Philip was a naval officer and also keeps a full schedule, and he is in his io's.

All of the princes, second and third generation, have served in the military. Will and Kate do a great job of setting a good example in behavior and dress, and I choose to follow what they are doing because I am completely sick of hearing about how great Michelle's wardrobe is.

I also like it that when they came to the US last they stayed on the West Coast and then went back to Canada, completely ignoring Obama. You have to love them for that fact alone.

Charles is a monumental embarassment who should be stricken from the historical record. He's the natural result of too much European royalty inbreeding. He won't ever see the throne -- it will go straight to William when QEII passes away.

Heh. Speaking of QEII having more balls than Bammy, I just had the best mental picture of Prince Phillip walking up to Obumfuck and cold cocking him with an elderly fist as hard as granite. That would rule. A 91 year old man going TKO on Preezy McWipemybottom. He could do it, too.

That would make my year.

No, sorry, CBD. Perhaps one of the Philly 'rons can give you the straight dope. I just found City Tavern overpriced and overprecious; I was really frosted when, after my 'Colonial' porter had arrived, I pulled out my clay pipe (yes, I really smoke one) for a pic and a waitress rushed over nearly screaming "you can't smoke here! You can't smoke here!"

I can recommend the bar at the Farnsworth House in Gettysburg for drinking, though, as well as the House and the Dobbin House a couple of blocks away for eating, should you ever be in that neighborhood.

242 My friend out in WA is frosted that, despite a glowing performance review, she "only" got a $0.63 raise, which is totally negated by the health benefit cuts her company is making in the new year. I don't know which annoys me more: that she's bitching about getting a small raise when most people haven't gotten ANY raise in years, or that she's bitching about the benefit cuts even though she voted for Obama. I ended up just deleting the email because my response to both would have been a long diatribe composed of nothing but epic profanity.

I love my friend, I really do, but sometimes I just can't get past her innate leftist idiocy.

Bah. According to the magazine covers at the checkout, she's been pregnant with twins for like 16 months already. So has Jennifer Anniston.

I will say in my own personal, anecdotal, wildly unscientific experience that being pregnant with twins was the absolute sickest I've ever been, so maybe they're not completely off-base in speculating that she's having twins if she's very sick. The first four months of that were wretched and it must be even more so knowing that everyone you've ever met and a bazillion more you haven't are all waiting for you to get fat and crazy so they can gossip about you. Ick.

When I was instructing Cadets, we used to take the senior class to Gettysburg every year for a Staff Ride. They were all assigned a protagonist and would have to research their "character" for about 6 months before we even made the trip. Then we would walk the battlefield and stop every so often, "OK, where is General Longstreet? OK General, what did you do here." "Where's Chamberlain? Colonel, tell me about how the Regiment's level of training caused you to deploy here."

It never failed that someone would pipe up, "General? What the HELL were you thinking?" The kids were great, I was the detachment Gettysburg expert but every year I picked up some new nugget that these kids had uncovered in some obscure document. The whole thing gave me hope for the upcoming generation of officers. Good times. Good times.

262 Actually, CBD, now is a great time to visit Gettysburg (not next year in July, though, since that's the 150th anniversary). They've just completed a brand-new multi-million dollar visitors' center, and you can spend nearly an entire day just there.

A nearby stable offers hour and two-hour tours of the battlefield; it changes every year, as the Park Service tells them "you can go here, but not here." It used to be led by a PS guide, but now it’s a recorded lecture you listen to through earbuds.

There are a number of B-and-B’s and hotels around, so you have a choice. Mrs P and I stay at a little place just off the Mummasburg road which has two cabins; there’s nothing like sitting on the porch at night, having a smoke and listening to the crickets.

The Farnsworth House has great food (try the game pie) served in their “Meade” or “Lee” rooms. The Dobbin House just up the road is a Colonial tavern lit by candlelight.

Unfortunately, the “ghost tour” phenomenon has taken over the place. Avoid them like the plague, unless that’s the sort of thing you like.

OK, got work to do. Bbl.

272 I'd be fine with Susana Martinez.

If you can get past the "GOP hates women and Hispanics" meme to low info voters, we'd be winning landslides. That's really all the Democrats can offer anymore is demographics, they certainly aren't offering ideas. If we had the same electorate we had in the 70's,80's, or 90's, Romney would have easily won.

I hate playing the affirmative action game, but our electorate has proven that they think with their "blood" instead of their head.

Something like 99% of black women supposedly voted for Obama, but white people are the real racists?

We have to play the skin/gender game next time whether we like it or not. With blacks it's useless, but I do see a lot of room for improvement with Latinos.
