--- If the 'friends' of Murderer Belcher are telling the truth, that there was a custody battle brewing, then I don't see why Murderer Belcher's wishes should be granted by having the baby stay in his family. But I don't think that his being a bully necessarily correlates with his joining that branch of athletics.
When I was in "public school", UK sense, the worst bullies were on the rowing team. The "football" (soccer) and even rugby people were fine. In college the worst fucking douchebags were in student government. I barely talked to the athletes, and they didn't bother with me. (Excepting the one track runner I took on a date once.) He was just a violent asshole; he turned out to be good at football, so he ended up in football. But if he hadn't been good at football he'd be a thug anyway. This is what happens when bullies are treated with "time outs" rather than allowing their victims to eventually deliver a vicious beating on them while a blind eye is turned.
The whole apparatus nominally intended to deter bullying actually enables and nurtures it. I'm old enough to remember when it didn't work the way it does now, and school administrations did turn the blind eye when the victims retaliated. I've seen the power of a "rehabilitative beating" to turn the arc of a bully's life around. I delivered one of those "rehabilitation's" in high school. Don't go blaming football for making folks violent. However an extra good athlete will be excused for all kinds of bad behavior because he is making money for his (HS,college or pro) team rather than having to face up for his actions the way Joe Schmo might have to (unless Joe's parents have lots of $$ or some kind of political clout and they bail him out.)
Same thing happens with horses. Nasty dispositions are dumped in the general population, but if its a race horse that is fast enough to win money its overlooked and bred on. But until enough of society boycotts thugs in sports (heh Rome will burn or they will pussify football so much they lose all the fans to hockey or soccer first) violent athletes will keep getting a pass until something as tragic as this happens. You can bet on that. Posted by: PaleRider at December 03, 2012 09:57 PM (dkExz) 210
He completed a "for credit" class titled "Male Athletes Against Violence" after he punched out a window over a woman. Let's see... He got three semester hours to take one of those "special" classes only for male athletes --football players in particular-- and graduated in just three and a half years with a degree in "child development and family relations." It's a good thing he didn't earn a degree in nuclear engineering or the entire eastern seaboard would've be wiped off the map by now.

219 I agree. Pro sports are becoming like bad pro wrestling from the 60's . Everything is " Look at me"
They aren't really teams, just groups of semi-illiterate mopes who are only a half step above prostitution. The rules keep changing by people that never played a sport in their life, mostly suck-ass lawyers. The water is starting to swirl around the drain, in so many ways. A lot of people have already forgotten that Junior Seau just did himself in, too.

From the American Bar Association; African Americans, especially African American Women, suffer deadly violence from family members at rates decidedly higher than for other racial groups in the United States. However, it is observed that research concerning family violence among African Americans is inadequate. Overall, African Americans were victimized by intimate partners a significantly higher rates than persons of any other race between 1993 and 1998. Black females experienced intimate partner violence at a rate 35% higher than that of white females, and about 22 times the rate of women of other races. Black males experienced intimate partner violence at a rate about 62% higher than that of white males and about 22 times the rate of men of other races. Callie Marie Rennison. and Sarah Welchans, U.S. Dep't of Just., NCJ 178247, Intimate Partner Violence (2000), available at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/ascii/ipv.txt African-American women experience significantly more domestic violence than White women in the age group of 20-24. Generally, Black women experience similar levels of intimate partner victimization in all other age categories as compared to White women, but experience slightly more domestic violence. (Estimates are provided from the National Crime Victimization Survey, which defines an intimate partner as a current or former spouse, girlfriend, or boyfriend. Violent acts include murder, rape, sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault.) Callie Marie Rennison, U.S. Dep't of Just., NCJ 187635, Intimate Partner Violence and Age of Victim, 1993-1999, at 4, (2001), available at http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/abstract/ipva99.htm Approximately 40% of Black women report coercive contact of a sexual nature by age 18. Africana Voices Against Violence, Tufts University, Statistics, 2002, www.ase.tufts.edu/womenscenter/peace/africana/newsite/statistics.htm The number one killer of African-American women ages 15 to 34 is homicide at the hands of a current or former intimate partner. Africana Voices Against Violence, Tufts University, Statistics, 2002, www.ase.tufts.edu/womenscenter/peace/africana/newsite/statistics.htm In a study of African-American sexual assault survivors, only 17% reported the assault to police. Africana Voices Against Violence, Tufts University, Statistics, 2002 www.ase.tufts.edu/womenscenter/peace/africana/newsite/statistics.htm All of the above is waaayyy to dangerous to talk about. The problem is "99 problems but a bitch ain't one" thinking and tolerance of impulsive and violent behavior. Families used to address those problems with things called parents. In my city there was a horrifying murder several years ago which involved people who were -outwardly - the exact opposite of NFL thugs. A elderly physician cornered his ex-wife in an underground garage and slit her throat. Google "Gerhard Witte."
I knew the man. He had been a well-respected doctor. She was an accomplished musician. He went off the deep end when she left him. He began stalking her obsessively. His practice went to hell. He let himself go and ended up looking like a street person. He was barred from a hospital where he had been on staff for many years because he was sending her long, abusive emails from the hospital computers. She got a restraining order. Fat lot of good that did her when he showed up in that garage with a knife. Bear in mind this guy was in his '70's (of course, so was she) - hardly a 20-something 250 lb. linebacker. Unarmed, she still didn't have a chance. He told the cops later "I'm a doctor. I knew exactly where to make the cut." Posted by: Donna V. at December 03, 2012 10:53 PM (BStAJ) 233
Weird!
A black male kills a black female!?! How unusual! Even weirder: a black male kills a black male?!? (In this case, himself.) Who'd a thunk it? If he didn't have a gun, he'd have used a #2 lead pencil. The thing about a shooting [spree] is that they always try to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it. --William Burroughs. Posted by: Thorvald at December 03, 2012 11:52 PM (1V6Pv) 234
