Oh, man, it can't be December yet. I have things due in December.
I never understood why the states that just voted to decriminalize marijuana said they would seek federal guidance for what to do now. Before the vote, the feds said marijuana use and sale were still going to be illegal under federal law and that they'd still prosecute. What other guidance could there be? Anyway, Washington state isn't waiting for the feds anymore. Marijuana will officially be decriminalized under state law tomorrow. Alanis Morissette visited Tel Aviv for a concert today. It provoked the type of measured response from Islamist and leftist scum that you've come to expect.Comments

In other words, many people are gaming or defrauding the system. This includes not only disability recipients but health care professionals, lawyers and others who run ads promising to get you disability benefits.
Living not far from a major city, I can tell you that late night and mid-afternoon television is nothing but lawyer ads for this. "We get you benefits or you pay us nothing!" they scream. It's not just minorities that do this shit either. When my regular auto mechanic hired a guy on disability to help him hang over a fender all day, and hoist parts out of engines in his shop, he became my no-longer regular mechanic.

I don't see the auto mechanic being at fault for that. I see the guy collecting and his doctor being to blame.
My father in law had severe heart disease and it took him a long time to get SSDI and three court trips despite testimony from cardiologists saying he could not work. He died shortly after being OK'd for it.
Now all you have to do is go down and apply.

If you are on SSDI, you are supposed to be fully and permanently disabled.
If you are working a job, it goes against the very purpose of the program.
Either you can or you cannot work, you can't collect SSDI and work.

I'd call the mechanic an accessory to fraud. The guy on SSDI had a shiny new Corvette and lived in my town, which has an average home price of 500,000 plus.
I'm not sure what the average healthy recipient steals but according to the fact sheet I get from SS every couple years, I could collect about 25k per year. Get a job 'off the books' and you're talking some serious tax-free money.

Here’s a subject we often talk about. SSDI fraud.
Several years ago, I suffered kidney failure due to a genetic kidney disease. Once I went on dialysis, I was informed that I was eligible for Medicare to supplement my insurance. I signed up for it. During the process, Medicare informed me that I was also eligible for disability. I declined since there was nothing preventing me from working. They were very insistent that I consider signing up. I kept refusing. Finally, they told me that, if I ever changed my mind, I could just call them and they would get it started immediately. I never have.

You're right, I just looked it up. It used to be a very nominal amount, until 1990 it was $300 a month. For most of the 90's it was $500. It has been steadily rising since then, and in 2013, for no-blind people it's over a $1000, and for blind people it's $1740.
In other words, more than a lot of people earn who are not at all disabled.

My sister worked for an insurance company that provided the high-risk worker's comp pool for the state of Texas. She spent the majority of her time hiring PI's to investigate claims. A very large percentage of them were fraudulent.

The old exec went to do a private chef gig in British Columbia that he had done before for about $50K. Cash.
He filed for unemployment benefits in Louisiana and was getting paid for over a year even though he wasn't living there anymore. Turns out you can file online from anywhere. No interview required. Fucking horseshit.
I found out later that he and his old sous opened another joint in New Orleans. A year later, they were out of business. Welcome to the business world, motherfucker. And still I bet he hasn't learned a damn thing.

This is because when people keep more of their own money, they use it to grow the economy and therefore the tax base.
Theoretically, there are decreases in marginal tax rates which would also decrease revenue- such as decreasing rates to near zero. But in the real world, based on evidence we actually have, revenue increases as marginal tax rates fall.
So having "the rich" or any other group pay at a higher marginal rate would not only not close the deficit gap, but would likely increase the deficit as those who are taxed increasingly take their capital off the table, shrinking or regarding the growth of the tax base.
Class warfare is not only morally wrong, but it is also economically wrong.
And a second aside: the "Bush tax cuts" have been in effect for twelve years and were re-authorized by Democrats in 2010. They are no longer "tax cuts;" they are simply the current rates.

Yes, that does tend to be a liberal's response. Liberals, since they believe in the "perfectibility of man" can't bear to think that a person might just do something evil. There has to be a "reason" (such as being white, or Christian, or Jewish) or some thing has to be to blame. Because, if people just do evil things because they just snap, or because they're (*gasp*) evil, then that whole "perfectibility of man" thing just goes away. And then you have to consider the one thing Liberals absolutely will not consider- that Government isn't the answer to our problems.

Was talking to an old timer here in SC on Saturday about the warm early December we were having. He said, you know what that means, don't you? He went on to say it's an indication that we're going to get an extra cold winter.
And as far as SSDI, by far one of the most egregious examples of misuse and fraud is the giant baby man. The one who said he'd kill himself if he got his benefits cut off and could no longer go around in his self-made playpen and onsie sleepers.

That's an incredibly stupid idea. As I've said previously, 95% of people who are homeless are homeless for a reason more extreme than simply "I got kicked out of my house and lost my job." More often than not they're suffering from some form of mental illness. It's noble to want to help family, and since Mr. Hillman is active in the church I understand the urge, but to invite that person into your home after knowing nothing about them or their situation for so long... Let's just say I'd be cautious.
If my sister or my brother-in-law were having money troubles, they know they could come stay with us here in NH, no problem. That's because we stay in touch with them; we know them. It sounds like this guy and his brother didn't talk more than once a year, so the brother can't possibly know the full extent of his homeless brother's reasons for being on the street. This quote makes me particularly wary:

Absolutely it's the man. He holds the blame, 100%. My only reason for bringing up the steroids is that, thus far, I haven't heard a single person mention it. Maybe I've missed the coverage, but seriously? A football player kills his girlfriend and himself and it's not even MENTIONED? Given that steroid use is pretty rampant in professional sports -- particularly strength-testing sports like football -- I'd say they pose a greater threat to the health and safety of players and their loved ones than does gun ownership.
