20 We have been enduring an era of intolerable acts of our government
and much like Great Britain of the late 1700's which led to the convening
of the first continental congress, we are quickly coming to a point where
action will be necessary to reverse this condition and restore our rightful
place as free men and not slaves, because that is what the federal
government seeks to turn us into - SLAVES

The British government instituted the Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts
as a way for the colonies to pay for their "fair share" of the costs of
maintaining the British Empire, we suffer under these same sentiments
and conditions as our rulers seek to increasingly burden the most productive
among us with confiscatory taxation and onerous regulation to pay for the
maintenance of the least productive among us under the guise of fairness.

I am calling on our so-called representatives to pledge the following

1 -We will not offer or sign onto any legislation that raises taxes, alters tax
rates, creates new taxes, raises fees, creates new fees or any scheme or
plan to increase monies flowing into the federal government from the
citizens, businesses and corporations of the United States wherever they
may reside.

2 - We will not offer or sign onto any legislation that creates and or
alters regulations, rules, codes that would impose a limit, constrain
a right, impose a duty, allocate a responsibility on any citizen, business
or corporation of the United States wherever they may reside.

3 - We will not offer or sign onto any legislation that would result in
the full implementation of the "Affordable Care Act"

4 - We will not allow to leave committee or confirm any judicial appointee
of the President of the United States.

5 - We will not offer or sign any legislation that creates any new agency, office,
czar or otherwise increases the size, scope and reach of the federal government.

This is what I want from my so-called representatives, I want them to stand
athwart these outrages and usurpations and yell - STOP!

We've made too many compromises already, signed onto too many grand bargains.

They seek to tax more and more and we compromise.

They seek to regulate and take away our liberty and we compromise.

Not again!

The line must be drawn here!

This far, no farther!

And we will make them pay for what they've done!

31 Americans have a tendency of being too prudish to appreciate good leaders. Patrick Henry, one of the greatest orators and thinkers behind the American Revolution only had 6 people at his funeral...largely due to his opposition to slavery and organized religion. General Petraeus was one of the best generals we've had, and he gets the boot for fucking an intelligent lady 20 years his junior. Good ol Bill fucks a chick old enough to be his daughter, and he's still extremely popular with Americans. If Bill got to keep his job, so should Petreaus. Goddamn.

And FTR, adultery is wrong. But people from David to Eisenhower to MLK have done it, and while that doesn't make it wrong, it proves that adulterers can still do good things-great things even.

In a new study published today, Angela Logomasini, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, argues history has proven Rachel Carson wrong. Agrochemicals have not caused the “sinister” ills Carson predicted. In fact, it is her anti-chemical legacy that now poses a global risk both to food supply and the environment."

Earn your own dilithium unless you're willing to pay real money for a lot of shit. This may not be great advice as I stopped playing because all I did was earn dilithium.

Don't waste resources on anything until you hit the level cap. Levelling is extremely fast and you don't spend enough at any rank to use stuff beyond what you earn as mission rewards anyway.

First, never believe the mileage numbers for tires. They are bullshit. They will pro rate your next set of tires, if you want to buy some more. If not you are, you out of luck. What are you driving makes a big difference in how much you want to spend on tires.

I have a turbo Porsche, eat your hearts out, I am not going to put shitty tires on it. They run about $250 a tire and last about 12,000 miles, BUT they are made for plus 160 driving, rallies etc.

Also depends on how you drive. I am hard on tires, fast start, quick stops, high speed turns, etc. If you are not doing any of that and are not in bad weather area, get cheap tires.

That Costco tire repair etc is bull too. It only is for YOU, if your son is driving you are out of luck getting them repaired.

I've had good luck with Tire King. They replaced a set of tires on my Land Cruiser after they went bad early at no charge. If you have one in the area give them a try.

84 Better tires usually last longer.

That said, it's difficult to say which is the better tire.

Price doesn't mean squat. I've paid through the nose for tires that didn't last half the length of the warranty. (and that's with proper maintenance and wheel alignments and not being a yoyo and whipping around corners at speed.)

1) find out what the manufacturer originally put on the car.
2) how's the ones now? how many miles you getting?
3) how do they drive? good in rain sometimes mean they wear faster in dry conditions.

It's a crap shoot. I've been buying tires for years but not often for the same vehicle and it varies depending on the vehicle and the driving done.

Sorry to be of little help. Best guess? keep doing what you're doing unless you believe you're spending too much or the tires don't stick for the conditions you drive in.

59 ....are the tires actually enough better than the cheap ones?

It depends on what kind of driving you're going to be doing on them.

For example...I wouldn't drive at 80 mph on the interstate,in 100 degree weather, on cheap tires.

If you're going to be just driving around town, at lower speeds...then you can get by just fine on the cheaper ones.

100 Patrick Henry, one of the greatest orators and thinkers behind the American Revolution only had 6 people at his funeral...largely due to his opposition to slavery and organized religion.

You're thinking of Thomas Paine--and it wasn't just for those two reasons. He also a colossal dick, on a personal level. He could be likeable. He could funny. However, he had too many chips on his shoulder and it eventually just seeped into his personality.

More importantly, he felt George Washington hadn't done enough to help him when he was arrested during the French Revolution and started calling him a tyrant and smearing him. That soured a ton of people on the guy.

Within limits, get the best tires you can afford. Go for a name brand (Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, etc., etc.) and DO NOT BUY Chinese or Korean rubber.

Mileage isn't a good indicator. They will wear differently based on the car (get the alignment checked and balance the tires!) and how good you are about keeping pressures at recommended levels. And how you drive.

My personal recommendation is to avoid "all-season" tires. They are mediocre 12 months a year. Get good summer tires and use chains if you live in a snowy area.

And don't buy a Porsche Turbo. Those suckers eat tires. I know this.

Tire Rack lets you buy from a huge selection of tires online and have them installed locally. They have reviews on the site. The prices are good but usually not spectacularly good. It's worth at least checking them out for pricing before you buy locally.

Snapp said police had earlier been called to a nearby house after reports that a woman, identified as Belcher's 22-year-old girlfriend Perkins, had been shot multiple times. She was later pronounced dead at hospital.

Local media reported that Belcher and Perkins had a three-month-old daughter and Perkins' mother witnessed the killing and called police.

"This is part of the tragedy of urban living in this country," Kansas City Mayor Sly James told reporters outside the practice facility.

For us, it was worth the marginal cost difference to go with a better tire. Having said that, the Michelins are a bit noisy, but willing to put up with that for the mileage.

115 There are plenty of places in MA where the state rep and the state senator are democrats because the republicans simply don't run a candidate whonisnwilling to work hard-- or we don't run one at all. For instance, in 2012, only 13 out of 40 state senate races were even contested. One was a democrat incumbent against a Green, one was a democrat incumbent against an independent, and three were republican incumbents. That means republicans only challenged 20% of the seats.

We can win more seats here in MA as soon as we have a statewide structure that will support candidates. And it won't be the MA GOP.

That's what I'm working on for the rest of my life-- turning MA purple and then red.

I'm saying this in a broader sense. Expensive cars tend to need expensive maintenance. They run through tires and brakes faster. That's always a given. BMWs cost an arm and a leg to do just about anything to them. Same with Audis. If you buy a Porsche, Audi, BMW, etc you will pay a lot to maintain. But it's something people oftten overlook. They drive an Accord all their lives and one day decide, yeah I can afford a BMW or a Porsche. Until the 1st oil change for $120 vs. the $18.99 Jifffy Lube oil change comes along. Or the $1000 brake job on a BMW 7 series vs $300 for an Accord. Then people suddenly understand what owning a German car is all about. And which is also why craigslist and ebay are filled with high end cars for sale by people who bought them less than a year ago.

147 If you're going to be just driving around town, at lower speeds...then you can get by just fine on the cheaper ones.

A lighter vehicle will get by much better on junk tires than a heavy one too.

I ran a set of shitty bias-ply recaps on my old 72' VW beetle for 40k miles and abused them severely with offroad driving and 80mph in the southwest desert and they did just fine. I would not do that with a car weighing much over 2,000lb.

If you keep it under 70mph, and have the pressure on the hard side, and the vehicle isn't too heavy, internal heat buildup isn't going to be a big deal. A loaded up Explorer/Escalade at 80mph running a 25psi inflation on a hot summer day is a delamination waiting to happen.

148 Thanks for the tire advice. I've got a Subaru Forester turbo and drive sedately (but wow is it fun to drive something that actually accelerates). I drive on New Mexico roads (hot) and live in the mountains but we only get snowed in a couple times a year. The car has got a bit over 65,000 miles on the original tires. They aren't completely without tread but I'll be extra careful if we ever get any snow this winter.

It's a... big expense that hurts now but means no worries until long after the car is all paid for and I'm out of school (went back to college), or a smaller expense now and another in a couple of years when there is no reason to think our economic situation will have improved kind of question.

I just wanted a double check that my basic assumptions weren't total bull sh*t marketing.

I can't figure these friends out. They're penny wise, pound foolish. He had been a really big money exec in commercial real estate stuff, but lost his job a couple of years back. They have two homes, three cars, a motor home, and $2 million in savings in the bank... but they can't afford the mortgages on the homes and can't sell the one they'd like to sell (it's over-priced imho, I've seen it). So he's trying to keep this old Jeep that has 160,000 miles on it going... but won't pay $800 to have it painted.

Left-Square-Bracket to start: [
Then: b
Then Right-Square-Bracket: ]

That starts the Bold.

Then you MUST put in

Left-Square-Bracket to start: [
Then: /b
Then Right-Square-Bracket: ]

To CLOSE the bold.

Repeat: that's FORWARD SLASH b to close: /b

For Italics, do the same with an "i" instead of a "b".

Good luck.

237 Kinda' long, but here's the deal that the SCoaMF demanded of Boehner and the House, through his proxy Timmeh TurboTax this week:
A $1.6 Trillion increase in taxes over 10 years, coupled with an increase in spending by another $1 Trillion per year, added TO THE BASELINE He wants to not only have the debt ceiling increased, to pay for furthering the deficit, but also demanded that the House permanently give up its Constitutional control of the purse strings, by granting the President unlimited ability to use America's credit card -- until such time as our creditors see fit to cut us off.
This alone caused uncontrollable laughter amongst not only Republican lawmakers, but even had some members of the Democrat Caucus in stitches.
So, what olive branch did the President offer in exchange for the gift of un-Constrained power, free from the shackles of checks and balances? He offered, wait for it...
$1 Trillion in budgetary concessions to be taken from future base line expenditures, spread over 10 years -- to begin in 10 years.
Those spending cuts will not even be true cuts, because they will be based on that enduring joke called "base line budgeting".
Think of Lucy and Charlie Brown, and you will have some idea how this has always played out in the past. (I'm still waiting on those budget cuts offered to Reagan during the "budget compromise of 1982".)
So, the JEF seeks to increase spending by an amount GREATER THAN ALL SPENDING THROUGHOUT OUR HISTORY, while stripping the House of it's lone Constitutional power.
I.DESPISE.THEM.ALL. It is going to burn, whether I want it to or not.

You'll be fine, the majority of this country is now composed of willing serfs but these serfs are developing a healthy appetite for firepower.

Owning guns is becoming increasingly trendy and ARs are certainly very trendy with people who own guns so all in all I think you'll come out on top.

All of that said, now, do you have an AR in .308 and if so, how do you feel about it?

447 French names are bastardzied all over the place in America. Terre Haute, Des Moines, Des Plaines, Detroit....on and on. Yet Spanish names are for the most part pronounced as they should be. Posted by: Mr. Moo Moo at December 01, 2012 09:03 PM (HDgX3)

Perhaps that's because not enough French emigrated to the US to insist on correct pronounication. The fur traders and missionaries who founded the outposts you named were not followed by settlers from the mother country. While I know a few people of French Canadian descent here in Wisconsin, Americans of French descent appear to be concentrated in New England, particularly Maine, and Louisiana. It just struck me that the French people as a whole appear to have been stay-at-homes compared to other European peoples, even when conditions got pretty crappy in France. Algeria was an exception - and things did not turn out so well for the colonists there, did they?

454 I'll have to figure out why i thought that

There were some changes earlier this year. Apparently there were some issues with grandfathering or something like that.

Some of the continuing education requirements were loosened a bit too. They were pretty onerous previously.

They really should do away with local cert and just do everything state wide. There's a huge duplication of effort there, but it will never happen.

Localities see it as a revenue source. I know guys who don't even bother bidding on jobs outside Palm Beach because to get licensed in Dade or Broward because its too expensive for the occasional job.

512 Talliaferro Co. (TOLL-iver) Posted by: Dr. Varno at December 01, 2012 09:25 PM (LMPgk)

David Hackett Fischer, the author of "Albion's Seed" (a really fascinating book about the 4 British "folkways" which set the template for much of American history - the New England Puritans, the Virginia cavaliers, the Quakers of PA, and the backcountry Scots-Irish) wrote that Talliaferro was an Italian adventurer who - improbably - ended up in colonial Virginia. The Virginians accepted him into high society but could not for the life of them pronounce his name correctly. So Talliferro, pronounced with a Tidewater accent, became Toll-iver. That's undoubtably what happened to all the French place-names as well - the dominant Anglo-Saxons butchered the pronounciations and the mispronounced names became the official ones.

424 Same thing i noticed. I think it's 'cuz they realized that they voted for the govt' to take my money and give it to them. They're silent because they recognize the reality of what they did.

I was wondering if I was the only one. Maybe there is some shock of realization, although I cannot understand why . How could you not know that this is what you were voting for?

Or, perhaps they decided to start doing some Math!

526 >>Yes. Do you believe that English is a dialect of Greek?

No, obviously. Old English is Germanic and the subsequent influence of French from the Norman Invasion (the transition from Old to Middle English) has Latinate and Greek origins, ultimately.

But the immediate influences were: An original Anglo-Saxon dialect --> smattering of Old Norse --> Norman Invasion French.

One of the biggest problems with counterfeiting is that it
depreciates the value of the target currency. Ironic, then, that the #1
foreign counterfeiter of the USD happens be the #2 foreign investor in
the USD.

Note that this is the #1 foreign counterfeiter -- the #1 counterfeiter is a guy by the name of Ben Bernanke.

Considering the fact that many of the first-ish settlers were originally Gaelic speaking ( Scots/ Irish / Welsh etc) the American language has a Celtic rhythm to it, as does most of Country music.
I read a book about the DNA content of Great Britain, before the muzzie invasion, something like 80% were of Celtic origin, not Viking, Saxon or Norman.

I've been wondering if that was the case. Seems like a lot of people didn't want to have to vote for R but were assuming most others weren't crazy and would vote for him. Worked as well as betting on herd immunity usually does.

That's your hash. It generally refers to yourIP and is one of the ways people can tell who is using which sock. It's also a way to target when the ban-hammer spools up. Some people have dynamic IPs so their hash changes frequently while others have had the same one for years. Trolls often use proxies so that when one hash is targeted for banning they can quickly move to another.

This is the IP adress generated by your (ack..blanking on term for little box that brings internet into house and plugs into computer) so doesn't have anything to do with accounts or anything like that. If you have a wi-fi device and post from McDonalds you'd have a different hash than using that same device at home.

544 Chiming in on the bad pronunciation of French in Indiana.

My favorite is a street in Franklin, our county seat. It runs into a copy of a certain arch in Paris, only smaller. It was put up right after WWI.

The name of the street?

Champ Ulysses. I am not making that up.

I think some farm boys from Johnson country went over to france during the great War, and when they came back they wanted a street like that beautiful one in Gay Paree.

So, there you go. Champ Ulysses.

Ah, got it. I don't try to change either but have had several hashes over the couple years of commenting due to power outages and the like. There's supposed to be a way to Google the hash along with ".minx" to figure out what socks are used by that hash but I don't understand it well enough to generally succeed.

And your stated reasons certainly were a big part of it, but he also happened to return to America when she was in the throes of the Second Great Awakening, which was of course big on repentance for awful sinners but silent on slavery (at least in mainstream South; I'm fully aware of religious abolitionists)
