If you're a PA single mom, have a job and make between $29K and $70K, you're a fool actually making yourself poorer by working.

Dennis Prager: 'Leftism is a Religion'

I know that certain pundits claim that leftism is a mental disorder but here I think Prager makes the stronger case that it truly is a religion - the most dynamic one in the world. Does anyone doubt that Leftism has its own belief system, moral judgments with angels and devils along with taboos and shared rituals?

You cannot understand the Left if you do not understand that leftism is a religion. It is not God-based (some left-wing Christians' and Jews' claims notwithstanding), but otherwise it has every characteristic of a religion. The most blatant of those characteristics is dogma. People who believe in leftism have as many dogmas as the most fundamentalist Christian.

One of them is material equality as the preeminent moral goal. Another is the villainy of corporations. The bigger the corporation, the greater the villainy. Thus, instead of the devil, the Left has Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, Big Oil, the "military-industrial complex," and the like. Meanwhile, Big Labor, Big Trial Lawyers, and - of course - Big Government are left-wing angels.

And why is that? Why, to be specific, does the Left fear big corporations but not big government?

The answer is dogma - a belief system that transcends reason. No rational person can deny that big governments have caused almost all the great evils of the last century, arguably the bloodiest in history. Who killed the 20 to 30 million Soviet citizens in the Gulag Archipelago - big government or big business? Hint: There were no private businesses in the Soviet Union.

So why isn't Leftism recognized as a religion? Because it declares itself to be a rational un-religion:

One reason is that leftism is overwhelmingly secular (more than merely secular:  It is inherently opposed to all traditional religions), and therefore people do not regard it as a religion. Another is that leftism so convincingly portrays itself as solely the product of reason, intellect, and science that it has not been seen as the dogma-based ideology that it is. Therefore the vast majority of the people who affirm leftist beliefs think of their views as the only way to properly think about life.

That, in turn, explains why anyone who opposes leftism is labeled anti-intellectual, anti-progress, anti-science, anti-minority, and anti-reason (among many other pejorative epithets): Leftists truly believe that there is no other way to think.

Yet Another Bummer: Federal Judge Dismisses Walker v. Kimberlin Federal Lawsuit

Apparently the judge decided it was just a political dispute and washed his hands of it.

The court decided to duck the entire matter as a "dispute between political enemies", and we disagree with his assessment as to the Court's inability to grant the remedies sought. We disagree with the ruling and its failure to address in any way even a single point of substantive law raised by either party, nor did it take into consideration our response to Rule 11 filed yesterday, or our forthcoming Opposition to the Motion to Dismiss by the Organizations, which the court should have considered before granting that particular motion.
We plan to pursue all available options, including an appeal, once our focus is no longer on the 12/04 hearing in Virginia.

So perjury and violating discovery rules are fine if it's a 'political' thing. Kimberlin skates again. For now.

The Ten Chick Flicks Guys Love But Refuse to Admit Watching

Well love is a pretty strong term - perhaps not-a-complete-waste-of-time/mildly amusing is more apt description. And Twilight is just a damned filthy lie.

So believe me when I say that I've never seen one of those movies. That being said...I've also told people I've never seen Notting Hill or Pitch Perfect. I once even told a cop that no, I didn't see that nice Italian man shoot that snitch and dump the body in the river my house overlooked, but that was for different, far more disturbing reasons. Point being, sometimes chick flicks are actually pretty enjoyable--the dialogue is witty, there's hot trim to stare at and sooner or later the main chick usually ends up in her underwear.

Well Notting Hill and Pitch Perfect were pretty good and even Bridget Jones' Diary had its redeeming moments....from what I've heard from my p-whipped friends.

Shockingly, the US did not vote for it. Again, shocking. God forbid we offend anyone in the middle east, you know.

Curiously, the Vatican praised the decision and said some malarkey about Jerusalem giving special status amongst Israel and Palestine. Anyone know why the Vatican would do this? I was not aware that the Holy See was a pro-Palestine player. I assumed they were firmly in Team Israel's corner. How could they not be?

The recent case out of the U.K. of a baby “to die like an abandoned animal” is not an isolated case. As has been noted previously, socialized medicine often leads to the “weak” being removed from the population. Sometimes it is based on some deluded idea of racial supremacy or eugenics, but the most pernicious is when a child’s life is considered less than zero simply it would tax the stretched and already heavily rationed socialized healthcare system.

This has become even more clear with the revelation that it is the policy of the U.K.’s National Health Service to let “weak” babies die a prolonged and horrible death. Cash incentives to doctors and hospitals may have been given to put ill babies on the “Liverpool Care Pathway,” which is nothing more than a sick and twisted euphemism for involuntary passive euthanasia that involved removal of all care, food, and water, as revealed in the British Medical Journal.

Now, it has been revealed by the U.K.’s Daily Mail just how painful and inhuman this “care pathway” is. Below is a letter from the Daily Mail. It is being quoted as it appeared on the Mail Online because unless we sear this horror upon our souls as the horrors of the NAZI death camps were seared upon the liberators of those camps.

"The voice on the other end of the phone describes a newborn baby and a lengthy list of unexpected congenital anomalies. I have a growing sense of dread as I listen.

"The parents want ‘nothing done’ because they feel that these anomalies are not consistent with a basic human experience. I know that once decisions are made, life support will be withdrawn.

"Assuming this baby survives, we will be unable to give feed, and the parents will not want us to use artificial means to do so.

"Regrettably, my predictions are correct. I realise as I go to meet the parents that this will be the tenth child for whom I have cared after a decision has been made to forgo medically provided feeding.

"The mother fidgets in her chair, unable to make eye contact. She dabs at angry tears, stricken. In a soft voice the father begins to tell me about their life, their other children, and their dashed hopes for this child.

"He speculates that the list of proposed surgeries and treatments are unfair and will leave his baby facing a future too full of uncertainty.

"Like other parents in this predicament, they are now plagued with a terrible type of wishful thinking that they could never have imagined. They wish for their child to die quickly once the feeding and fluids are stopped.

"They wish for pneumonia. They wish for no suffering. They wish for no visible changes to their precious baby.

"Their wishes, however, are not consistent with my experience. Survival is often much longer than most physicians think; reflecting on my previous patients, the median time from withdrawal of hydration to death was ten days.

"Parents and care teams are unprepared for the sometimes severe changes that they will witness in the child’s physical appearance as severe dehydration ensues.

"I try to make these matters clear from the outset so that these parents do not make a decision that they will come to regret. I try to prepare them for the coming collective agony that we will undoubtedly share, regardless of their certainty about their decision.

"I know, as they cannot, the unique horror of witnessing a child become smaller and shrunken, as the only route out of a life that has become excruciating to the patient or to the parents who love their baby.

"I reflect on how sanitised this experience seems within the literature about making this decision.

"As a doctor, I struggle with the emotional burden of accompanying the patient and his or her family through this experience, as much as with the philosophical details of it.

"Debate at the front lines of healthcare about the morality of taking this decision has remained heated, regardless of what ethical and legal guidelines have to offer.

"The parents come to feel that the disaster of their situation is intolerable; they can no longer bear witness to the slow demise of their child.

"This increases the burden on the care-givers, without parents at the bedside to direct their child’s care.

"Despite involvement from the clinical ethics and spiritual care services, the vacuum of direction leads to divisions within the care team.

"It is draining to be the most responsible physician. Everyone is looking to me to preside over and support this process.

"I am honest with the nurse when I say it is getting more and more difficult to make my legs walk me on to this unit as the days elapse, that examining the baby is an indescribable mixture of compassion, revulsion, and pain.

"Some say withdrawing medically provided hydration and nutrition is akin to withdrawing any other form of life support. Maybe, but that is not how it feels. The one thing that helps me a little is the realisation that this process is necessarily difficult. It needs to be.

"To acknowledge that a child’s prospects are so dire, so limited, that we will not or cannot provide artificial nutrition is self selecting for the rarity of the situations in which parents and care teams would ever consider it."

44 Mr Moo Moo.....er yes, serious question. You have to understand I am relatively young, so the whole Israel/Palestine thing is complex for me to understand. I still try to wrap my head around certain aspects of it, and learn something new every day.

That said, my family is devout Catholic, I am Catholic, and I have always considered us to be very much pro-Israel. Plus, the priest at our church often talks about how important it is to protect Israel and protect the Holy Land and things like that. Come on, it's Israel.....how can the Vatican not support them? I guess I just assumed.....very weird that the Vatican is pro-Palestinian.

If pilgrimage matters to Christianity, and there are no Christian churches willing to take over and rule Jerusalem directly, then the Christian churches should unite in support of Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem.

The pilgrimage is as much a control think as a leftover pagan ritual (though it is both). If you are supposed to go to the seat of the Caliphate you better be on good terms with the Caliph when you get there.

Unfortunately for Muhammed though the center of the Arab world moved out of Mecca right after his death.

Many, though not all, Catholic Churches face East. As far as praying, though, there's no rule. You can pray facing wherever.

They had Daddy/daughter date night in the town we lived in, in NJ. It was very sweet. They tried to have a Mother/son night too. The moms all got plastered and the boys destroyed the place. True story. Next year they had to send around a letter telling the moms to lay off the sauce.

I couldn't access that list but of the ones I've seen the horde talking about, I've seen Titanic and Sweet Home Alabama. I recognize the pic at the top from Romey and Michelle's High School Reunion, which was funny (saw it once). I have seen the first 2 Twilight movies once each, under duress. My elderly aunt passed away last Sunday. One thing I learned from her and from my grandmother(born in 1897)is exactly how easy we have it. But most of the tiime you were trying to raise kids and figure out how to eat.

My aunt was convinced that Obama won because white people won't grow up. She said it used to be that by the time you could vote (21) you were married and probably had a kid, and were worried about the future. Now 21 year olds are babes in arms and 30 year olds still haven't settled down. You have too many voters who aren't grown up. Her 2 cents. Not sure JEF winning didn't push her over the edge.

OK, serious now, I'm pretty sure the LiB folks are advocating letting the system crash and then trying to build something from the pieces. History isn't kind to this approach, but I'm guessing they are just frustrated at what is going on and don't know what to do to reverse the trend.

I don't know that the trend can be reversed. I think no matter what your philosophy we are going to have to ride this into the ground and hope that there is something left to work with when we hit.

So, that leaves us with letting it burn.

Once we're at that point, continue what we've been trying to do pre-letting-it-burn.

An economic system based on credit must clear bad debts periodically (the wave of defaults and bank failures that accompany normal recessions) and can collapse completely if the fake growth period goes on too long. Where we also are is the inevitability of government spending, in terms of real stuff, contracting to what it can afford, like anyone else. All the whining about fiscal cliff is basically a lament that the lies of government can't continue forever.

"Let It Burn" is in popular use because it sounds better than "Watch It Burn." It has to happen anyway, so we may as well pretend to invite it.

I'm reminded of Mark Steyn's constant reminder that a government *can* change society over time. If government drifts even further towards a liberal agenda, I fear it will pull more people over to join the FSA and then there is absolutely no chance in turning back.

Forget the plot and the actors. Concentrate on the sets and the decor. The ship herself was the real star of that movie, and no expense was spared to bring her back to life.

I loved the movie for that reason, and I've been a Titanic buff for years. It's the closest I'll ever come to walking on her decks, at least until 3D holographic virtual reality movies come along.

When test audiences laughed at the dramatic trailer, they slapped a few extra overdubs on it that said "Come see this quirky black comedy!" to try and save it. Pat cooked all day, Erin brought hors d'oeuvre snack sammiches and a heap of mashed potatoes. Lauren brought two delicious pumpkin cheesecake pies, or punkin as Ryleigh called them. Pat prepared the turkey, stuffing, waldorf salad and her famous greenbeans oregano. YUM! Best of all was waching young parents (our kids) and their families. Oh yeah, Devin made a giant gingerbread man. I am so thankful for the love of my family.

Meh.

I am not dying, but they have me warehoused, it sucked. Meaning I'm kind of not getting better at this point and for the most part the doctors are not trying to make things better as much as avoid hyopothetical risks.

Am trying to get into a stem-cell program but SURPRISE the FDA made it much harder to get into those.

I'm good. Been on tour, non-stop-traveling since September. Spent October & early November in Europe, now touring the U.S. with a different act. Off to Vladivostok, Russia in December, then I finally stop moving near X-Mas. Physically exhausted but career is good. Wife is touring (backing vocals) with Martina McBride!

653 You cold lose fat on a hash brown and french fry diet. You couldn't lose it that quickly though. And you'd have to be fairly overweight and unhealthy to begin with.

But most people are.

The reason is two fold.

One: simply not eating all of the garbage in the SAD will bring health improvements. You can go from the SAD to a vegan diet and improve your health and feel great... for a while.

Two: the one or two item only diets are an easy way to alter your brain's food reward system. So, you eat less even though you feel full.

It's not healthy per se, and it's definitely not a long term health strategy, but it's an interesting experiment.

Don't paint with a broad brush. I think (and always have thought) the whole idea Perot gave us Clinton is pretty dubious. Not just because of that reason, but because when you break down where his votes came from, it's not clear at all Bush would have won if he wasn't in siphoning votes from each candidate.

I spoke with someone in the last year or two that let their teenager run up a credit card debt, not to prove the folly of paying interest (versus saving first), but to teach them to be responsible and make monthly payments.

Atheism's 'scriptures' are whatever are passed down from its priesthood on high. It even has its own evangelists seeking to convert others to the faith and away from all others; its own angels to be admired and devils to be attacked; taboos not to be broken.

Looked at that way, atheism very much is a religion. It just does not have a deity as such, even though atheism - whenever it's held absolute rule - always make the State into a "God" that causes people die at the "command" of that "God" just as surely as they did in the service to the "God" of medieval Catholics or John Calvin, or today for Muslims and "Allah." ALL of them killed people for, in one way or another, violating the majority's beliefs regarding the will of whatever "God" they worshiped. Atheists are absolutely not exempt from this.
