Damn Dirty RINO: Ladies It's Time

. . . we had a little chat. But first, let me stipulate at the outset that I really love you people - most of you, anyway. There are a few scattered hither and yon that I wouldn't give the time of day. Still, on the whole, almost all of you are fine, decent, good-smelling human beings without whom the world would be a vastly less wonderful place.

It's just that over the past several decades you've assumed a prominence in the body politic that, for all your wonderful qualities, you do not deserve. That's not to say you should be ignored or repressed; I'd never advocate such a thing. But, the bare fact of the matter is that you have become so coddled and catered to by politicians looking to garner your support that you're in danger of becoming completely infantilized.

How Israel's Top Rocket-Hunting Ace Got His Start

By wasting his time:

While many of the boys in Idan Yahya's high school class were buffing up and preparing themselves for selection into elite combat units, this gawky teenager was spending "a lot of time" playing Warcraft - the real-time strategy computer game where opposing players command virtual armies in a battle to dominate the fictional world of Azeroth.

Four years later, the high school jocks who sweated it out in pre-military academies so they could make the cut into the Israel Defense Force's Special Operations units are now crawling through the sand dunes on the outskirts of the Gaza Strip and watching while Idan knocks rockets out of the sky hundreds of meters above their heads. Idan Yahya, 22, an Iron Dome "gunner" in the Active Air Defense Wing 167, currently holds the record for the number of rockets intercepted: eight.

People in the army describe him variously as a geek and an ace. But the geek who grew up playing Warcraft is now a highly prized soldier on the cutting edge of real war craft. He's the Israeli army's top rocket interceptor.

Spain Goes Open Border$

If you've got $200K, you can get yourself a Spanish permanent residence (and complete EU freedom of travel).

Spain has between 700,000 and 1.1 million unsold new homes following the collapse of its real estate market in 2008 with an estimated third of them being designed as holiday homes in coastal tourist areas
Spain plans to offer foreigners residency permits if they buy houses worth more than 160,000 euros, in a desperate attempt to reduce the nation's glut of unsold property.

...The scheme would also allow foreign buyers to move around the 25-nation Schengen zone freely, as the agreement allows holders of a residency permit of one country in the area to travel to - though not work in - any other.

Want to Live Longer: Get A Puppy And A Spouse

Owning a dog, and having a happy marriage and plenty of good friends are key to longevity, according to a landmark study.
The Grant study found all these are more important than where you were born, whether you were born into a wealthy or poor family or what social class you are in.

...The report found that longevity has far more to do with happiness than social class.

It's not too late for either.

'Having a loving family is terribly important, but from 70 to 90 years old you'd be surprised at the people who, despite enormous deprivation, manage to find love later on.'
He added that he enjoyed following the lives of the men in the study. 'It gives me an awful lot of hope,' he said.

And I know a guy who get you a sweet package deal. You like Shar Pei's right?

19 Alex, to answer your question from the last thread...

Did you ever read/see Primary Colors? It was a "fictional" tale of a political campaign resembling Bill Clinton's. Horndog candidate, politically driven wife, sleazy aides, and best of all, Billy Bob Thornton portraying a "Carvillesque" consultant.

Part of the story which was never followed up on was the Clinton-type impregnating the teen daughter of a close family friend.

24 Parenthood To Become Illegal For Thoughtcriminals?

The “right” to raise children has been revoked for a British couple because of thoughtcrimes. The couple are foster parents who have looked after about a dozen foster children, and have been exemplary parents by any account.

However, in the eyes of some, they are evil thought criminals who are racist and believe in politically incorrect ideas. What are their evil thought crimes and their evil ideology? They happen to be former Labour party members who have joined the UK Independence Party (UKIP), which has grown to become the U.K.’s 3rd most popular party in many polls — hardly a radical or fringe party.

The couple, who refuse to be named to protect all the children they have fostered, appear to be upstanding citizens who have shown nothing but love and care for their foster children, including those who were of an ethnic minority:

The husband was a Royal Navy reservist for more than 30 years and works with disabled people, while his wife is a qualified nursery nurse.

Former Labour voters, they have been approved foster parents for nearly seven years and have looked after about a dozen different children, one of them in a placement lasting four years.

They took on the three children — a baby girl, a boy and an older girl, who were all from an ethnic minority and a troubled family background — in September in an emergency placement.

They believe that the youngsters thrived in their care. The couple were described as “exemplary” foster parents: the baby put on weight and the older girl even began calling them “mum and dad”.

The foster parents, who were labeled as “racist” want the children back, but are willing to let them go to prevent the children from being used as a political tool.

The social worker who tore those unfortunate children from a loving couple declared that “said UKIP does not like European people and wants them all out of the country to be returned to their own countries.” For a comparison with reality, read what UKIP itself has to say.

As the saying goes, “the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand the rules the world.” The Euro-phile leftist bureaucratic elite apparently could not stand having children, especially “ethnic minority” children be exposed to ideas that the bureaucratic elite disdains so profusely. The elite in Britain, just as in America, support maximum immigration coupled with “multiculturalism” in order to destroy the U.K. and build their delusional dystopia in its stead.

Meanwhile Democratic Party officials and politicians get caught committing rape, and other grave mistreatment of women to the tune of Charlie Gibson, "Never heard of it" or the NYT "all the news that is fit to print".

Republicans get held to a double standard, while Democrats get held to none. It's heads we win, tails you lose garbage, but the GOP is too stupid to stop allowing the media to set the rigged rules.

I used to own a Sodastream. The short answer? No. Long answer? No.

There was definitely a cogent difference, not that it was bad tasting, but not the alternative I was looking for.

I did find the lemon/7-up type flavors tasted closely to those respective brands, but then I'm mostly a cola drinker.

And most people have no effective way to fight that.

I don't even have a solid answer, except that we have to start unraveling the control the left have over the news, entertainment, and education industries.

It is a long, hard road. But if we don't do that, we will end up with one-party rule, they'll implement their wish-list, and the result will be the same as every other time in history they got their whole wish-list - mass poverty, war, pogroms, labor camps, and slaughtered peasants. It's just a question of time, ironically, because their ideas are critically "unsustainable."

Based on what I heard, it was actually the guy who played the Master who fashioned the legs. John Reynolds - the actor who played Torgo - put the legs on backwards so it looked like he had giant knees. For some reason nobody told him to put the legs on properly and he wore them that way the whole time.

The setup hurt quite a bit and he took painkillers. This made him somewhat loopy and added to Torgo's wobbly performance. He would commit suicide shortly after Manos was made, although this was apparently due to personal demons and not the spectacular failure of Manos (The people at the El Paso premiere laughed so hard that the cast and crew departed early, and by the end the movie was met with a loud chorus of boos).

Problem is, they're everywhere. It's not like the red/blue state division is 90/10-10/90.

Ultimately the solution is a system that lets the most people have the most freedom, handles its public resources wisely and sparingly, and lets urban liberals think they have a lot more power and influence than they actually do.

In the meantime we need to degrade their centers of Power and Control before they completely bankrupt us.

That "Butler" story is sadly indicative of what kids are being brainwashed to think in colleges now. It's all about what these lunatics call "Kyriarchy" where the straight white male is the boogieman, and everyone else must purge themselves of this evil. For example, a blak man who does not like gays needs to accept gay marriage because be not liking gays, he is perpetuating the "privilege" of straight white males.

I've been thinking about starting a blog to talk about this "kyriarchy" and am considering having it be a parody blog talking about "kyriarchy."

They have their hangers on (celebrities, yogis, grievance mongers like Code Pink) who are deputized to Spread the Word, but the final authorities remain the same. I believe it's easier for a right winger to fake being a lefty than vice versa, because you don't really have to *know* very much-- you just need the formula and the Enemies List, and the script writes itself. 317 "I had planned to go to law school but that kind of shit the bed. No need for a JD these days. The world is swimming in JDs."

it's good that you recognise that!

really, i always thought law was pretty obviously over-saturated...but a lot of the young analysts who weren't very good at finance ended up with plans to go back to law school after two years of 100-hour weeks broke their interest in a life of money-changing.

i always felt like the preponderance of lawyers is part of the reason why we're so litigious in america...too many lawyers with not enough demand, and they start creating artificial demand with trial law and unnecessary bureaucracy, to society's collective detriment.

neway, as for matsci, it will be extremely difficult to get into an engineering masters' programme without an engineering bachelor's degree, i should think. did you take any engineering courses as an undergrad?

in any event, generally, you'd look probably for a materials science programme or just a mechanical engineering programme, or if you have a more specialised interest, chemical or bioengineering -- there are some pretty interesting materials being devised by bioengineers, at least, and really cutting-edge stuff like graphene is just researched by condensed-matter physicists, so there is room for materials engineering across a number of different disciplines!

still think it'll be hard to get into a hard-sci masters programme with no prior study, tho...did you study any science during undergrad that you could leverage into a high subject-test GMAT score?

i was really sort of joking -- most bands fall apart because kids have other things going on -- but i know that one band of mine fell apart because the frontman was jealous of the attention i got while on stage. i'd get MUCH louder cheers from the female section during solos than he would for hitting high notes...and he was a pretty good singer!

anyway, that's the impression that everyone else in the band had...that he was too much of an egoist who couldn't stand not being the centre of attention on stage. but i was really just playing.

gmat is for b-school; you wouldn't take a gmat for engineering. besides, there's a huge difference between a regular standardised test and a subject-related standardised test.

a lot of the same logic applies, you see, but there's a lot of specialised knowledge that is needed for a subject test in physics, chemistry, or biology. there are soft-sci gre subject tests, too, iirc, but i don't think they'd go very far toward getting you into a graduate engineering programme!

don't be so sure that you can ace a subject test!

not all schools require them, but i'd think it necessary to demonstrate to the admissions committee an ability to transition from polisci to the hard science of engineering.

they really are totally different worlds! x.X

Me too. I had a moderate income, but one of the benefits was a traditional pension plan. The taxes that I paid for my moderate income were so ridiculous that when I qualified for early retirement I jumped at the chance. I was taxed to the point where it just wasn't worth it to me to keep working. I felt that I wasn't working to benefit myself, I was working to fork over money to cover the costs of other people's behavior.

Posted by: jimi ray at November 27, 2012 11:46 PM

You're the best guitar player you know and make other guitar players jealous? Perhaps I had you all wrong, you weren't kicked out because you sucked. You were kicked out because you sucked on guitar and thought you were fantastic. Jimi, don't take the my opinion to heart or anything. It's ok to suck. I sucked on guitar and bass. But, I worked hard atmaking the gradeand making myself invaluable in other ways. If you were any good on guitar you wouldn't have been kicked out... unless you were a huge pain in the ass.

Oh, all singers are preening, egomaniacs who want all the attention. That's why they're lead singers.

Posted by: chemjeff on the phone at November 27, 2012 11:50 PM (qTPeM)

Maybe. If I can find a way to monetize it. The nonprofit will be an environmental learning center. We will couch things in the terms of the leftist/anti-human green movement, and utilize their NGO resources.

But we will teach ideologically-conservative principles of conservation, land, water, flora/fauna management, and stress localism.

The PAC structure we are looking at will provide the funding for local state candidates here in Mass that the state GOP can't or won't do. The MA GOP is a fucking clusterfuck, which would be obvious to anyone with a colored in map. I'm not going to waste my time pretending to be a liberal toadie in order to take some control of their organization. I'm starting my own.

But that still leaves me with easily 40 hours of free time a week.

374 "And I don't really care what I do but I don't think my brain can do electrical engineering. Simple electricity like they teach in physics has always stumped me."

well, for a physics subject gre, classical electromagnetism is the least of your worries!

they have basic quantum mechanics, nonlinear optics, and relativity on that test. so it really does require a significant amount of immersion within the mathematics of physics to get a good score.

i haven't taken the bio or chem tests, but i would imagine they require similar specialised knowledge. hell, my chemE friend in undergrad was a lot better at quantum analysis of the hydrogen atom than i was. o.o

i really don't think the basic gre would be enough to convince an engineering committee that you'd be able to transition into an engineering master's programme from polisci. there's so much to be learned in 130 undergraduate hours of hard science experience. :/

an internship is a really good idea -- you should try to get one, or even a low-level research job, at some kind fo engineering or science firm. especially if you're near umass dartmouth, such firms should be plugged into the school programmes, and you can probably get put in touch with some professors who you might be able to help with some research.

i think you'll need some acclimation to the mathematics and mechanics of engineering -- it's much, much more specialised/difficult than the first two semesters of calculus that you probably had to take for polisci -- and working in the industry is a good way to both get the experience and demonstrate some expertise to an admissions committee.

They do, but that's not all they catch with their nets. Here in CA, plenty of people embrace such things, not out of desperation and weakness, but because they want to feel special, to transcend the ordinary reality that ordinary people live in. Real life just isn't good enough for them, you know. They're different.

Magical thinking. Like thinking you can run the White House by making a magic speech from time to time.

Also, what kind of people need life coaches?

And if a life coach is similar to a psychologist or psychiatrist, a surprising number of mental health professionals have "issues" themselves.

I was dating a guy and a friend of his family, who was a shrink, got gut shot by his wife.

A guy I knew in college was going to school to be a psychologist and said that some people go into that field to find out about their own problems. And he wasn't nuts, but he wasn't someone whose judgement I would trust to give me advice about my own life.

After a few months in the band and making very little headway with the natural goddess, I ended up drunkenly banging her older, less attractive sister which, surprisingly, kinda ruined my chances with the younger, hotter sister.

She was the least-worst feature of the half-time show. Kind of easy on the eyes, and her voice didn't sound like fingernails on a blackboard. Totally forgettable song, just elevator music. Zombie Gordon Lightfoot has lost his voice, and they didn't give him enough time to perform more than a third of Canadian Railroad Trilogy, which completely negates the whole point of the song. And the less said about the other two acts, the better.

Depends on the school, the kid and your own opinion. James Dobson, who early in his career was dead set against homeschooling, recommended at least homeschooling in middle school. Many successful homeschooling parents I know schooled their kids through elementary and middle school and put the kids back in for high school.

A woman I know in the goth scene was an "aura reader". One evening at a

beach picnic, I told her that I'm a psychic damping field. She didn't

believe me. Then she said she couldn't sense my aura, kind of freaked

The ironic part is that at times I do have a freaky precognition ability. I have completed people's sentences after the first word to the point where a friend of mine (not a goth, but a signal corps LT) told me to change the subject, which I did, to what she was next thinking. This was on the way down to the Richmond, Va, equestrian festival in 1995. That weekend, on the last lap of the steeplechase, I had a premonition that the last horse was going to trip over the steeple thing and break its neck. A quarter lap later, yep. It wasn't like "wouldn't that be cool if..." but a certainty that it would happen. Gruesome sight, I tell you. It's not something I can actively harness, but it comes in handy at times at parties and such like a parlor trick.

when you are a virgin-till-25 mute kid with no friends, you tend to have plenty of free time. in my case, that means i'm really good with both guitar card-magic sleight of hand.

anyway, it doesn't really matter what i think about how i play guitar, nor what girls who find me rather attractive think; whenever i play for other musicians, including active professionals twice my age, they are instantly seriously impressed, and other guitar players typically seek to avoiding having to play in front of other people around me for the embarrassing obvious contrast. it's pretty clear nobody has kicked me out of a band for lack of ability.

i don't play in public anymore (still daily at home!), but i know for a fact i could instantly get thru any audition for guitarwork in just about any genre (ion't do hard-country)...supposing the frontman could deal with a super-precious, adorable guitar player xP

depends on where you live!

there's lots of research showing that heavily rural areas and heavily urban areas both have pretty dismal public-schooling systems. but there are some well-moneyed surburban areas that boast public schools rivalling the best private schools in the country.

the woodlands, texas (houston exurb) and plano, texas (dallas suburb) both have amazing public school systems that put out capable and well-prepared students that can compete against the richey-rich brats from northeastern prep schools.

if you're in a rural area or an urban area, you probably want to look at private school after elementary...maybe even for elementary if the schools around your area are particularly incompetent.

I believe the herd in Canada is 100's of thousands strong. I think you can thin the herd up there? Caribou becoming extinct in North Idaho is like designating downtown LA as protected bear habitat. Interestingly, a lot of them are out of stock at Amazon -- I think due to Sandy perhaps, and a general surge in prepping interest. I want one that puts out low amperage 120V so I can run my various chargers/laptop directly from it.

It is basically their "scientific" way of making straight white Christian males the boogie-mand who must be destroyed (basically what Hitler did with the Jews).

They've been pushing this type of crap for decades now in colleges. Until recently, they kept a low profile and played the long game. They now believe that they have won and are becoming more open about it.

They associate American society and Western Civilization in general with it. They then marginalize that under the guise of "diversity" and "multi-culturalism." In the void thus created, they try to impose their delusional visions of utopia.

For example they declare that all typical male behavior is just the evil imposition of the "straight white Christian male" and that once cleansed of this impurity, then they will achieve liberation by smashing it.

nobody "avoids" playing with me. i could get in any band i wanted to get in. not only am i incredible at regular ol' flatpicking guitar, but i'm also incredible at finger-style guitar, slide guitar, and alternate tunings, all skills which are not terribly common in today's popular music.

thing is, i have a Real Life. music is nothing more than a hobby to me -- one that i'm incredibly facile with, but a hobby nonetheless. what do i care about playing in front of twenty or thirty people in some ill-lighted bar? i don't even drink, and those places always try to shirk on the money by offering young kids drinks as part of the package.

i'm 27 years old. i have things going on. anyone in the over-25 crowd who is still playing music without a major-label record deal is a loser -- and they all know it, too. not that i ever tried to "make it", but i'm certainly too old to get back up on stage. i'm post-graduate. it's not a thing you do when you're post-graduate.

"And yet, you're young, "super talented" on guitar, but you've been kicked out of bands, others avoid playing with you and you're currently doing.... nothing."

doing nothing? laff. i've accomplished more in my academic career than three generations of your family will accomplish in their collective lifetimes.

and it's better than that, anyway: i'm relatively young -- compared to a bitter old goat like you -- super-talented on guitar, AND super-adorable. that's like the pro-music trifecta...and yet i could care less about some stupid puerile dream of a professional-music career.

and for the record, i have never actually been "kicked out" of any band: do you know what "joking" means, or is your english as bad as your musicianship evidently is? the only band that ever fell apart "because of me" really fell apart because the singer couldn't stand not being the centre of attention. can't blame me for being SO cute!

you farmer-brown nobodies sure talk loudly about conservative ideals and the american dream and folks working hard to take advantage of their talents, but you really can't stand when someone is actually good at something at which you're a total failure.

Dooley lost games that he shouldn't have, and he had plenty of talent, especially at QB and WR.

Full
disclosure: I'm a Mississippi State alum that would have gone to UT if
they hadn't have screwed me on an scholarship offer.

I know about the QB situation there since the backup QB transferred to Hampden-Sydney where I am an alum.
The next 5 years are going to be very interesting in college football, especially if UVa and UNC bolt to the Big10, VT and NCSU bolt for the SEC, and Clemson, FSU, Miami, Pitt, Syracuse, and GT bolt for the Big 12. I get the feeling that there will be 4 mega conferences that will then feed into the BCS championship making the conference championship games the national quarterfinals.

562 The weird part is when you're attention-whoring and so many posters claim offense yet can't seem to post about anything else. It's like they really have nothing else to talk about. This place is starting to resemble a hockey game now- there's the main body of people who actually care about hockey and those who really just want to see a fight. That's why probably a quarter of the posts on this thread contain either the word "troll" or "ban" or both.

569 565 Let It Burn scares me because it's a bonfire of the innocent. It seems there's some misconception that the guilty will be punished, but that's not usually how it goes- the most likely hurt would be the weak. Taking your question seriously- it's a right-wing version of Cloward-Pliven. The assumption is that something better would arise from the wreckage of what we have now. It seems to mne to be a lack of appreciation of all we have now.

579 "drop the jealousy, chump"

Sigh. Yes, jimi. I'm jealous of you. How many records did you do? I'd rather have the vinyl I did, without talent, than the talent with nothing to show for it. All the talent doesn't count for shit, if you can't work with others and you don't apply yourself.

"nobody "avoids" playing with me. i could get in any band i wanted to get in. not only am i incredible at regular ol' flatpicking guitar, but i'm also incredible at finger-style guitar, slide guitar, and alternate tunings, all skills which are not terribly common in today's popular music."

Any band?Slide and alternate tuning? That's cool jimi. We have something else in common. Besides being ordinary on guitar.

"what do i care about playing in front of twenty or thirty people in some ill-lighted bar? "

Jimi. Man, aim higher.

"i'm 27 years old. i have things going on. anyone in the over-25 crowd who is still playing music without a major-label record deal is a loser -- and they all know it, too. not that i ever tried to "make it", but i'm certainly too old to get back up on stage. i'm post-graduate. it's not a thing you do when you're post-graduate. "

You don't need a major label, or an indie label, anymore. Not really. The industry has changed. If you got the goods, you can break in. Different hurdles to overcome, but it's not as exclusive anymore.

"doing nothing? laff. i've accomplished more in my academic career than three generations of your family will accomplish in their collective lifetimes."

I was talking about doing somethingwith guitar.

"i'm relatively young -- compared to a bitter old goat like you -- super-talented on guitar, AND super-adorable. that's like the pro-music trifecta...and yet i could care less about some stupid puerile dream of a professional-music career."

Jimi, there's serious money in pro music. Especially if you're super talented on guitar. But, I guess you're above that sort of thing.
"and for the record, i have never actually been "kicked out" of any band"

I thought you said you went pushed out? A couple of times.Oh well. Whatever. Jimi, was just trying to forward some practical advice, though bluntly. I doubt that you're as good as you think you are.And if you are, you're too much of a pain for anyone to work with. If you really got the goods, at 27, and able to join any band, you should be doing it. But, you don't want to. That's ok. It's probably for the best. If you know what I mean.

You're talking big money. The $300 3-panel set from Harbor Freight that comes with VRM/charger is cheap Chinese polysilicon and heavy. More efficient/lighter cells are going to run into the $1,000 range, and high capacity LiPo's (aside from being a fire hazard) are pretty expensive (but offer the best commercial performance/weight option. Better than Li-Ion)

The 3-panel HF cheapie only puts out 45W under ideal circumstances. With typical FL exposure it will charge a flat car battery in about 7 days.

616 I just looked at my laptop power supply, it wants 65W. Oh well.

Those panels can be ganged up. There's a lot of talk about the latest high performance LiPo batteries among model airplane/heli enthusiasts here:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/index.php

At lower charge/discharge rates, the high-cap ones should last longer than in an airplane/heli where they might be getting asked to dump 400+W continuous in 5-7 minutes. Some of the larger electric jets are using monster LiPo's in that crank out a couple thousand watts.

In high drain/fast charge situations, the inner cells get cooked and that kills'em. Your situation won't do that.

Also consider an ordinary car alternator. They put out in the 50-100W range and work when its raining, night time, cloudy, etc. If you're near running water, you can hook up a belt/pully system and water wheel to drive it and have continuous power.

619 #618 I was going off what sven meant when he was saying it every 3 minutes or so two weeks ago. If people mean something different I'm sorta more hopeful. Does it mean something different to you?

Posted by: DAve at November 28, 2012 02:44 AM (XDC0v)

620 I don't think Harbor's gonna give you the quality you need to run sophisticated electronics

The HF system is intended to use a battery for power buffering/conditioning. Panels charge the battery, battery runs the inverter.

Most affordable inverters produce pretty jaggy waves anyway as do most wall wart laptop chargers. Sometime there's not even a diode bridge in the wart charger, just a diode, so they're putting out a pulsed wave and wasting half the power.

Posted by: @PurpAv at November 28, 2012 02:45 AM (B7joV)

621 #620 yeah but that poor power quality's gotta be chewin' up the computer's components. Of course if they're running through the battery first that's different-

Posted by: DAve at November 28, 2012 02:48 AM (XDC0v)

622 616 I think you meant 50-100 AMPS range

LIB - Obama submits his fiscal plans and the Republicans vote 'present'.

Posted by: DAve at November 28, 2012 02:55 AM (XDC0v)

627 Most CMOS (and variants) components are very tolerant of voltage deviations. Lower voltage just means you have to cycle them slower. Unlike some other stuff like TTL, ECL, etc, The CMOS tech really only draws significant power on state transitions. Its steady state power draw is minimal.

That's how laptops conserve power with CPU speed throttling...less state changes, less power.

Posted by: @PurpAv at November 28, 2012 02:56 AM (B7joV)

628 Harbor freight -- and, BTW, my BiL used to write their ads -- is very much for the casual hobbyist. If you rely on their stuff for your living, you're an idiot. Their stuff is dirt cheap, and usually works at least one time.

I would say that "let it burn" is based on forcing the welfare state to deal with its inherent fantasies; while Cloward-Piven is based on having the more conservative faction deal with their own. Neither is sustainable -- the funding for the great Socialist state must come from profits in the great Capitalist economy -- because otherwise there aren't any.

Thank you. IMO, we have no choice, as no one will deal with it. We will lose our system of govt and our society and our way of life, if it comes tumbling down. We will not have the likes of the original Founding Fathers to put it back together. Doesn't really matter what we wish or do - no one in power will do anything about the fiscal/financial instability. If they do anything, it will be the wrong thing, such as grant more dictatorial powers to whomever is in charge. Funny how after 2008, nothing was done to deal with the financial system except to sweep the instability under the rug. Off to bed, I think.

645 The problem with the Left's planning is that they've overestimated their own intelligence and underestimated Chaos. When the system collapses, and I see it as more of a when than an if these days, all hell is going to break loose and overwhelm their carefully laid plans within hours. The only plan that ever survives contact with the enemy is Improvise. At least in that field, we have an advantage.

Posted by: Cato at November 28, 2012 03:36 AM (gbppU)

646 GnuBreed's definition is a good starting point. "Let" is a little more noble-feeling than the truth, that none of us have any expectation of this GOP congress to make any effort to stop Obama's tax and spending. Particularly since he can do nothing and get what he wants. "It" depends on how thorough your understanding of credit vs. capitalism is and how far you think the bullshit will unwind once generally recognized. "Burn" because it's going to suck a lot for everyone. It will suck more in a practical sense for "the weak" as there won't be stuff to hand out to them. For the non-desperate members of Obamacult, the degree of suckage will depend on their ability to stay in a bubble. Remember how long FDR stayed in office, despite making the situation worse at every step, because people choose to pretend he was doing a good job.

As for the end state, it depends how fast reality asserts itself and how stubborn the status quo party folks are. Right now, we'd have to lose 40% of the federal government (and as a consequence 10% of GDP) to balance out. In 2000, that would have been 10% (and something negligible), so we're running out of time to salvage that government at all. What happens then is anyone's guess, but it's pretty much inevitable. And most of us have wasted enough time trying to warn the Obama voters in our lives what lay down this road, so it's pretty much time to move on anyway.

No seriously i think it's important that we have this conversation about what LIB means 'cuz there's obviously based on this discussion a great deal of confusion about what we're talking about so often.

651 Chaos is the natural state of the universe. Order is fragile by nature, and short lived if not actively maintained. Our system prospered because it didn't interfere with the natural chaos of life - it encouraged it to productive ends. The Left's system is based entirely on centralized power and directives from the top down. It is entirely a creature of order, rigid and inflexible. It will not long endure, though the attempt of its imposition, and its rapid decay as Entropy takes hold will not be fun for any of us.

669 Sigh. DAve, you don't seem to like my definition of LIB, yet when I offered you a chance to enunciate your own understanding of it, you declined.

So apparently you have this amorphous, undefined fear of LIB without being able to describe what exactly about the idea makes you worry. Or even what the idea encompasses.

Now you are starting to sound like Tim Geithner, who when confronting with the Republican/Paul Ryan tax plan, said in essence "we don't have a plan, but we know we don't like yours."

So again, lay it on me/us -- what does LIB mean to you when you see that phrase?

lol, god, you're a shameless old cocksucker. in fact, people ask me to play on their records pretty often, but since i have far too much pride to put my work on a record that's just going to collect dust in someone's garage -- sound familiar? -- i inevitably pass on the requests.

let's have some perspective: what i just wiped my ass with for nine minutes -- totally off the top of my head! -- is FAR better than anything you have ever striven to play in your pathetic life. that was ONE guitar. ONE track. ONE take. you couldn't play anything like that if you practiced for years, much less pull it out of a hat without ever having played anything like it before.

but you're still going to insult me?

an engagement to a super-awesome fiancé? check.

plenty of published academic success in fields of my choosing? check.

you're a washed-up fucking nobody with a record you undoubtedly couldn't force upon relatives as a christmas gift.

i'm going to be exactly what i want to be: a house-"wife" with a job doing theoretical research and publishing papers -- maybe even make a little bit of difference in the science world! even if i don't, marriage is my american dream.

you, on the other hand, chased money and fame on a delusions-of-grandeur train of dreams...and ended up with neither fucking one.

not so much worried about being a loser so long as i have ROCK STARS to which i can compare myself, gotta say!

i understand why you'd be disappointed that someone with actual musical talent thinks your failed ambitions are a fucking joke, but by the time i was born, your musical career had long since landed in the gutter.

i've got my american dream.

thank god it doesn't require dealing with ego-ridden, delusional chumpfests like you pathetically hanging on to the tattered, childish dreams of awing adoring audiences with their transcendent stagecraft.

673 "It will not long endure, though the attempt of its imposition, and its rapid decay as Entropy takes hold will not be fun for any of us."

eh, i'm not sure you fully understand entropy.

crystals? those happen because entropy.

large-scale structure? that (probably) happens because entropy.

life? that almost certainly happens because entropy -- see "crystals" >.>

there is an enduring popular misconception that entropy = disorder, but that's not a very accurate understanding at all. it's more like entropy = information, or more perfectly, entropy = "number of microscopic possibilities".

http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v462/n7274/full/nature08641.html

that's a $32 nature article when one isn't on campus @.@ but i found this news synopsis:

http://www.mse.engin.umich.edu/about/news/entropy-alone-creates-complex-crystals-from-simple-shapes

as you will read, entropy clearly is not synonymous with "disorder" in certain systems. when particles are forced into highly compactified spatial conformations, there is an increase in entropy in certain orderly arrangements, because those arrangements allow for the introduction of greater numbers of particles to the system, increasing the total entropy even tho the particles have definitely "lost disorder"!

thus, life. @.@

but either way, we know very little about the entropy of the universe. should some other universal death precede expansionary "big rip", we really can't predict heat death, because we really can't describe entropy on the large-scale structure of the universe.

Hey, I said it was nice. Are you better than me on that sort of thing? I think so. But, that's not a particularly high bar, jimi. I don't play that style. What do you want? To be told you're fantastic, or something? You're ok. Not bad. But, not bad is pretty... ordinary. Lots of people can fiddle around on the couch and sound ok. Suckage and hackage is a big bracket. The video thing isn't that useful.

Youcompare yourself to whoever it is you're comparing yourself to.Based on your stated experiences, I figured youmight get something together, with a bit of adjustment. I was wrong. You were right. Playing in bands live or for recording, is far beneath your awesome talent. Keep it to yourself. The world doesn't deserve you, jimi. You made the right choice.

679 In defense of women, they tend to be more socially-aware then men. Thus, when the media wants to create a particular impression about Republicans and Democrats, women are more likely to perceive the impression without being aware of the manipulation.

Plus, they've been "educated" for decades that women have been oppressed forever and all over the world by a massive conspiracy that wants to stop them from having orgasms. They've been told this since they were little. It shouldn't be a surprise that they believe it. It worked with Eve.

680 As a child of the 70s, I remember the "What's Happening to Me" book, esp. the drawing of the kid on the diving board with an erection. That very thing happened to me around age 11-12, so the book was particularly relevant to my interests.

Funny enough, it was written by Peter Mayle -- the same guy who later wrote all those books about living in Provence.
