Rice, Carney: Okay, There Was No Protest Before the Attack; So Let's MoveOn.org

Best available intelligence and other words that don't apply to the White House.

Rice's statement:

In the course of the meeting, we explained that the talking points provided by the intelligence community, and the initial assessment upon which they were based, were incorrect in a key respect: there was no protest or demonstration in Benghazi. While we certainly wish that we had had perfect information just days after the terrorist attack, as is often the case, the intelligence assessment has evolved. We stressed that neither I nor anyone else in the Administration intended to mislead the American people at any stage in this process, and the Administration updated Congress and the American people as our assessments evolved.

Uh-huh. Unfortunately the "spontaneous protest" was already debunked well before Rice went on TV to talk it up. And, of course, Obama was still talking that up days later, on Univision.

Jay Carney is annoyed to even have to answer questions about this:

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney grew testy with reporters Tuesday over questions about UN Ambassador Susan Rice’s role in the aftermath of the Benghazi attack.

“What is the point of the focus on this,” Carney asked of questions about Rice’s comments on the five Sunday shows days after the September 11, 2012 attack that killed four Americans signaling it was a spontaneous event.

"What is the point of the focus," Carney-barker? Gee, maybe the point is that we kind of want to know why our UN Ambassador was out there peddling a lie that had been debunked before she started flapping her lip, and why the administration clung to that lie like a fat chick to a drunk quarterback at last call for MONTHS afterward. That might be the point, Jay me lad. Just possibly.

See, I don't think they're a dead end. I think the two go hand in hand. Because you know the talking points were crafted at least in part to make the government look LESS BAD about not sending help. Find out who fixed the talking points, then find out who gave that person their marching orders, then find out why.

"There's been some debate around the office about whether we should report on this at all," Washington Post senior reporter Bill Tracy said while on assignment at a local dog show. "It's enough of a tragedy without the press jumping in and pointing fingers or, worse, exploiting the violence. Plus, we need to be sensitive to the victims' families at this time. Their loved ones were brutally, brutally murdered, after all."

Nevertheless, a small contingent of independent journalists has begun to express its disapproval and growing shock over the president's actions.

what is the point? The real questions I want answered are:

1) why was security repeatedly denied in the months up to 9-11

2) why in the fuck was there no added security ON 9-11, REMEMBER THAT DAY???

3) why in the fuck do we have marines in Paris and not benghazi crazy-town fucking libya. fuck you and your budget cut bullshit blame on pubs. if we have money for marines in Paris, we have money for Marines in libya.

4) exactly what assets were available and what was done when our people came under fire at the consulate. Why were they painting targets in the first place if there were NO FUCKING ASSETS AVAILABLE. these guys weren't dummies, what was available and what was done to try and save our people. These weren't tourists, this was the FUCKING U.S. AMBASSADOR.

Theory #1: Obama didn't want the word "terrorism" to be uttered so close before an election. Bush kept Americans safe, Obama didn't.

165 #137 My theory is still that this entire clusterfuck in Libya was Susan Rice's deal. She is the so-called Africa expert in the Obama foreign policy team. She sold Obama on the policy of overthrowing Gaddhafi, of putting a consulate in Benghazi to make nice to the militants there, of appointing the gay man as Ambassador (she is REALLY BIG on LGBTBBQ stuff at the UN), and of leaving him unprotected as a "goodwill gesture" to the locals. The coverup is necessary to protect her, as she was the chosen successor to Hillary at State.

She went on the Sunday shows after the attack because Hillary was furious and said fuck this, this is her deal, let her go out andexplain it. I also think Rice ordered the bullshit talking points and is actually the mastermind of the coverup. Obama's a moron who just signs the papers and plays golf.

If McCain and Graham keep picking at Rice I think theywill get to the real story eventually. Somebody on Hillary's team is gonna blab.

The media is absolutely complicit, but the Republican retreat from Benghazi needs more attention here, I think. A previous thread mentioned that Graham and McCain were troubled by the closed-door discussions. "Troubled" -- really? That's hardly a battle cry. Their walking it back big time. It's not clear why they are retreating, and it's not clear what recourse the American people have in bringing those responsible to justice.

205 "What is the point of the focus on this, Carney asked of questions about Rice's comments.." The appropriate response to this question, if we had a press corps should be, "Carney! We descend in to this crypt of a cemented over swimming pool w/ poor ventilation to do what?"

Here is a clue. It is 4 fold. You Mr. Carney are the primary communication instrument for an entity that holds the future of free people everywhere in its hands. There are monsters that want you, me and everyone in this room, AND a billion or so people dead. Most people think those monsters attacked our government, your government, the one you are charged with speaking on its behalf, especially at times of crisis or concern. Regarding this threat to free people everywhere, we want to understand 4 things,... What happened before the attack, during the attack and after the attack, and also how do these three things reflect on the broader policy surrounding the region and the monsters, if they do or do not exist?

Is that too tough for you to figure out Carney? The future of mankind. Is that too difficult for you to wrap your pea brain around or are you still busy thinking about Big Bird and Binders?

I wish Republican politicians would get it through their heads that the media are waiting to pounce no matter what they do. If the GOP caves on this or any other issue, then their surrender is the result of President Obama's awesome awesomeness. If they balk or fight, then they're obstructionists responsible for the failure of Obama's policies. If they balk or fight where a person of color is somehow involved, even tangentially, then they're racists.

The only thing for it is to do what's right for the country and to hell with the media. When confronted by a pack of lowlife Marxist scumbags, the right thing is usually to fight.

The administration is more than happy to waste time on the Susan Rice crap (which lets them call repubs racist) while everybody, and I mean everybody, ignores the real story.

218 If Rice was merely teleprompting the intel talking points, how is it she failed to mention that the talking points also mentioned the drone kill of Al Libi as a possible motive. She was just mindlessly spewing out what she read without regard to its political effect, right? Well,...ummm... No, she lied here.

1. She said there is no evidence this was preplanned.

If as Petraeus said the "extremists" or "terrorists" were possibly retaliating for Al Libi, then this would have been a motive that existed the day before, week before, whatever. Its preplanned!

Lie #2: Rice, Carney, Victoria Nuland, Hillary and Obama all said, " Blah, Blah, Lie, Lie, Blah, Blah,.... and it had nothing to do with any policy or actions of this administration or the US goverment". In Rices case she said "there is no evidence" it had anything to do with...etc. Yet she is looking at the talking points about Al Libi. She is bound by the talking points. She is forced to set aside all of her excessively abundant qualifications and personally opinions and disgorge the Intelligence communities talking points in their fullest measure.

Yet, she concealed this part of the talking points and further more stated unequivocally that there was "no evidence".

I think this is just one glaring incident of her not conveying the talking points and instead conveying the political message of Obama's political team. This fits the MO of the OBL Seal team 6 CYA memo where Obama's team created a memo from the intelligence community taking full responsibility for the raid, in case, it failed.

To Obama, Benghazi was like a crap filled toilet overflowing on to the floor and Rice was like that expensive bath towel you throw down to contain the effluent escaping in all directions. You hate to dirty her up, but a better containment vessel (Hillary) was not available and hopefully you will be able to clean her up later.

223 Yes, Regarding the above and other references to the Benghazi-Syria connection and its Iran Contra parallels:

http://www.redstate.com/2012/11/26/benghazi-syria-connection/

I haven't heard this question asked. Was the scheme intended to keep Obama fingerprints off any aid that might end up in the hands of AQ terrorists in the Syrian rebel movement. One thing we know of Obama folks they spend more time on how a policy will spin than how it will succeed.

Clinton personally intervened on behalf of Iran and terrorist linked groups to secretly ship arms for them to the Balkans in opposition to UN blockades the congress supported. It turned in to a mini scandal that required a lot of energy to tamp down by their media pals. Obama didn't want that.

The accusation the left made against Reagan was he was taking resources intended for Iran and using them to supply the Contras and hoping no one would find out he was trying to protect freedom loving Latinos from evil communists.

In this case Obama, if true, is trying to further the false narrative of the Arab Spring, which we know is a complete failure and in fact a post modern media invention that never existed. As long as Syria bleeds, the Arab Spring narrative bleeds and so does Obama's credibility. He may have imagined he wants someone to win, anyone to win as long as it is over and not his responsibility for its outcome,... unless it looks good, which no one believes it will.

Obama would have the CIA ship MANPADS from mysterious untraceable locations in Libya using third party transit resources which is what the CIA is good at. Send them to Turkey, deliver them to the rebels and shoot down the aircraft of Assad. It achieves the same no fly zone goal of Obama's Libyan operation, but with no US fingerprints.

Later when the new Syrian government becomes as Islamist as Egypt or worse, Obama can throw up his hand and say "Sucks for them". So Lebanon gets to play mini me to a new set of terrorists and Israel gets Islamists to the north, east and south. And Obama gets a trip to Vegas and few hours on the back nine before dinner with Michelle.

Far cry from Reagan liberating poor latinos from slavery. "Sucks for them".

Of course the media is complicit with the administration -- that's nothing new. The more important issue is how the question should also be posed to the Republican representatives in Congress. If the establishment GOP do not take seriously the concerns over Fast and Furious and Benghazi, the constintuents who put them there need to demand an explanation. Without some kind of testicular fortitude post-election, the pre-election concerns over Benghazi just appear to be rhetorical GOP attacking points, rather than the disaster of foreign policy which it really is.

Think I'll finally ping a few of my former State associates and see what they're thinking, about this in particular, and more generally since the still-unbelievable national disgrace of Nov. 6.

But regardless, this whole vile spectacle - the incompetence preceding, the disastrous response, the stupefyingly inept, mendacious, and unserious public affairs stance after (and to this day), AND the separate spectacle of events in Cairo that same day (the un-American and idiotic embassy message to the mob, the equally outrageous follow-ups, and then the follow-ups from main State and the WH, all of them failing to fix the problem), topped by the high-profile detention of a US citizen on US soil - something never done before in our history - has rather closed the argument.

That argument being whether, substantively and practically, we still live in the place once known as America. We don't. The institutions that serve as guard-rails, both official (Congress, the judiciary) and extra-constitutional (press, civil society) are effectively collapsed. None of which would be possible without the fundamental collapse of self-respect, common sense, and responsibility in the wider society (at least a - uh - "working" majority).

In more histrionic terms, a tiny invisible nightmare of a president suffers a gigantic debacle involving dead bodies on the anniversary of 9/11, his "administration" puts on an unprecedented display of arrogance, cluelessness, and mendacity in "responding" to or explaining it, the "press" doesn't even bother to ask about it, and the bulk of the public shows no interest.

Cannot believe this is the same country I've lived in most of my life and served for some periods with near-fanatical dedication.

237 According to Obama in the third debate, he announced in the Rose Garden
the day after the attack that it was a terrorist attack.

That claim was clearly a lie.

But
supposing it was true. That means Rice, on five national TV interviews,
directly contradicted what her President had said. In which case she
has a tin ear or worse, not a great choice for Secretary of State.

The
media were reporting within 24 hours that Ansar al Sharia had claimed
credit for the attack. Rice on one show spoke after the Libyan
President, who clearly stated that al Qaeda linked terrorists were
responsible. Reuters later reported that the White House knew pals of al-Qaeda were responsible within two hours of the attack.

By
persisting with the White House line against all evidence -- evidence
available to any citizen following the news -- Rice demonstrated that
she is merely a useful idiot. Again, not a great choice for Secretary of
State.

238 Let's see how this would have went over....

Sept. 12, 2001

Pres Bush announces a a video about WMDs in Iraq has caused "acts of terror" to occur in NYC.

The Press claims the WTC collapsed after an attack by OBL and AQ.

Sept 13

Ari Fleischer says we condemn the video that supports Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi regime. Under questioning he says there is no evidence of Al Qaeda terrorism and its too early to tell what happened, but irresponsible videos and the use of WMDs should be condemned. We have contacted our allies regarding WMDs.

Sept 14

AG Ashcroft continues to gather details of CIA director Muellers ongoing affair with an author, but is still keeping it secret from the President because it might interefere with the investigation. Meanwhile, the President is sending Mueller's initial act of terror assesment back for revision aking him to take another look at the notion that the WTC collapsed because of the Saddam video regarding WMDs. Bush is pleased how compliant and prompt Mueller is about completely rewriting his report to eliminate the Al Qaeda angle. Ashcroft discusses with Mueller the chance that the affair will be kept secret and he will keep his job at CIA.

Sept 15

John Negroponte, UN ambassador a relative unknown and having very little to do with the response to the collapse of the WTC and mysterious explosions at the Pentagon becomes the primary spokesperson for the Sunday talk shows. He blames it all on Saddam Hussein and claims there is no evidence of AQ or OBL connections and the WH has received no evidence regarding a terror attack from the CIA. He also says this mysterious event that caused the loss of life in NYC and possible at the Pentagon had nothing to do with US policy or actions. It is a reaction to a video about WMDs and we condemn the Iraqi government and all racist and bigotry in the world. We also condemn all bad people and violent people and people that let others die of cancer when they could have re-hired their spouses. By the way, this is our best assessment based on the intel community which is seemingly outside of the control of the bush administration, ...if things go bad.

President Bush goes before the UN and never uses the word terrorism, but mentions the video.

SecDef Rumsfeld admits that the military was some what aware of the event as it occured but wont admit much more. LAter it would be discovered that Rumsfeld and Bush were meeting together in the Oval during the WTC collapse, but will not confirm or deny they walked the 57 feet down the hall to the situation room where it was being watched on Big Screen TVs by Bush's emergency response team.

Over the course of 3 weeks, virtually every high ranking officer in Bush's government would make wide ranging and often conflicting remarks about the American Deaths.

Vice President Cheney even joked with the father of one of the victims about the size of his sons balls at his memorial service.

Finally under oath, an intelligence officer said it was terrorism. That same day Ari Fleischer said, " Terrorism? Oh , right, of course, I thought you knew that! I think that is "self evident". Isn't that obvious? I thought you knew that?"

A month later President Bush would say in a public Forum, I told you it was terrorism on Sept 12, so I'm offended you didn't notice that. I always believed it was terrorism.

A month later, UN ambasador Negroponte said, on Sept 15, I had no fricking idea it was terror. I was just reading my sticky notes that it as a video. I'm a Rhodes Scholar ya know.

AG Ashcroft announced that CIA director Mueller was the one to blame for the "false video" memos,... and Oh by the way, Mueller had an affair that we didnt tell anybody about until today and he is leaving us now for a trip to the Eastern Front, so you can't ask him any questions, OK?

Then Bush comes out to a press conference and says "How dare you ask questions about the collapse of the WTC and the fire at the Pentagon? I'm offended. And picking on Condi Rice? You should be ashamed you racist, sexist dogs who think she is an easy target"

The following Week, Fleischer asks why the media cant just move on and stop asking questions.

Does anybody think the media would not be living on red bull and meth running hit jobs 24/7 against the evil George Bush and his indifference to the suffering of innocent families and the blood and death.

But Oh, I forgot, Bush planted the explosives in the World Trade Center.

Benghazi was an inside job!

I think we're going to have to start calling Jay Carney "Little Vee Jay Jay". Because he is a little pussy.
And Little Vee Jay Jay, the point of focusing on this is that Susan Rice is a lying scrunt who deliberately set out to mislead the American people in an attempt to protect her President's lying ass in an election.
Worse yet--she succeeded.

240 What the Obama regime was trying to hide about Benghazi was that the attack was to free a couple of Libyans who were being held in the CIA rendition and torture black site they were operating there.

The Chosen One had said, of course, that they didn't do that anymore.
