McCain, Graham, Ayotte: Susan Rice's Answers on Benghazi Leave Us Even More Troubled Than We Were

She met with the senators behind closed doors (not under oath), and they say they're "more disturbed" than they were before.

“Bottom line, I’m more disturbed now than I was before (by) the 16 September explanation about how four Americans died in Benghazi, Libya by Ambassador Rice,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). …
“We are significantly troubled by many of the answers that we got and some that we didn’t get concerning some of the evidence that was overwhelming leading up to the attack on our consulate,” McCain said. …
Ayotte echoed Graham, saying she was “more troubled today having met with the acting director of the CIA and Ambassador Rice.”

Point taken, but there are other things to consider:

(1) Most people were in the dark about Benghazi. Obama's propagandists barely covered it.

(2) People could begin to care if something significant gets uncovered. If a significant amount of law-breaking is involved, said propagandists might discover a need to cover the impeachment proceedings, albeit with the inevitable "you're just impeaching me because I'm black" theme.

For awhile now I leaned toward the source of the coverup being Obama'scynical, ruthless decision not to escalate the newsworthiness of the incident by sending in military support, a cold political move donefor the sake of expediency in the last weeks of a closely contested campaign. Now, based on the behavior of his cabinet members and staff, spin and smoke everywhere, I'm thinking he didn't make any decision at all, which is even worse.

Here's a man who has never been in a life-or-death situation before. Iraq? Afghanistan? He skipped those briefings because professionals were on the job, taking care of things. Missile strikes on abstract targets don't count. But Benghazi was different. There's some conjecture we were arming Syrian rebels out of there. Al Qaeda was running freely all over the place. The ambassador was missing and probably dead. People were pressing him from all sides, asking for orders and authorizations and presenting him with options and outcomes and possibilities. Overwhelmed, out of his depth, he froze.

I was in the Airborne Infantry when I was young. I've seen people freeze in the door before. All of their training tells them to jump. Meanwhile, every cell in their body is telling them this is risky business and someone could get seriously hurt or killed doing this shit. So they lock up. They freeze.

After Benghazi, the President went to bed and then to Vegas for a fundraiser with Beyonce and JayZ.In his speech that night, he deliberately equated the dead ambassador and his staff to his campaign workers.He's downplayed and has been dismissive of their deaths, as if it was no big deal, not really. Who does that, and when they do it, why do they do it? They do it to rationalize their personal failure.

I think Graham will hold steady. He is up for re-election this year, and he needs to throw some red meat to the base to minimize a primary challenge in South Carolina. I also see very little downside in challenging Rice in any event. We get called out so much for alleged racisim anyway, the charge really stops being effective at some point.
