| Overnight Open Thread (11-26-2012)Taken from a Quora thread (may require signing up or bugmenot to see it all). And also an invitation for all active or retired Morons in blue to de-lurk and share. One of the things my upbringing did not prepare me for was the complete lack of civility that some people have. I didn't think of myself as having been sheltered from evil as a child, but I did not learn that some people have absolutely no regard for the welfare of anyone but themselves, and lash out at anyone who tries to make them aware they are not the only people on the planet Everyone has a "hot button." Calm and even-tempered as you might be, there is some topic that will set you off, especially if it's referenced to you personally. It might be your height, your weight, your sexuality, your education, how much money you have, your mom, whatever. Rational people can become maniacs if someone pushes their buttons. High-speed chases look like fun because they are. Sandra Fluke a Candidate for Time's Person of the Year So her biggest claim to fame is that she declared to congress that she wants the government to pay for all her birth control and then Rush Limbaugh said something not so nice about her and this is enough to qualify her as the Time Person of The Year? Out of the 7 billion people on this planet?? What the fucketty fuck?!! Did someone just slip crazy pills into my brandy?!? Democrats: The New York and California Party A Smart Politics analysis of 83 general election cycles dating back to 1850 finds that the Democratic Party now comprises a larger percentage of Californians and New Yorkers in the U.S. House than at any point since California joined the Union. 30% of all Democratic members of Congress are from either NY or CA. Here's an interesting interview with Michael Mauboussin, Chief Investment Strategist at Legg Mason Capital Management, on how to separate skill from luck in success (and failure). He focuses a lot on sports which leads him to declare basketball the most skill-based sport. Basketball is the game that has the most skill. Football and baseball are not far from one another, but baseball teams play more than 10 times the games that football teams do. Baseball, in other words, is close to random - even after 162 games the best teams only win about 60 percent of their games. Hockey, too, has an enormous amount of randomness. But he also touches on other areas such as the reliability of medical studies and why low class sizes are correlated with high test scores yet shrinking classes doesn't improve scores. The Secret Online Gun Store That Will Sell Anyone Anything Ok I'm pretty skeptical that you really can buy anything without getting scammed but this is the internet after all. The Armory wants to make itself hard to access (for obvious reasons that have to do with not going to prison), so it's not as easy as just firing up any old website. In fact, it's not really on the web in any traditional sense. To get to The Armory, you need to deploy a free piece of software called TOR. ...The Armory's URL-ayjkg6ombrsahbx2.onion-reflects that, a garbled string of letters and numbers deliberately impossible to memorize. Once you're actually signed in, you then have to turn to Bitcoins as mandatory currency, a further exercise in computer secrecy and complexity in itself. This ain't exactly walking into a gun show and walking out with a pistol. And if these prices seem low, it's because they're in bitcoins which currently run at 9 dollars per bitcoin. In 1922 Niels Bohr received the Nobel prize for his work on sussing out the structure of atoms. For his outright brilliance he was given a house next door to the Carlsberg brewing company, and had a pipeline running from the brewery into the house so that he could have a never-ending supply of fresh beer on tap. This might also be why he didn't get a second Nobel prize. But his impact on the world was by no means done: All sources agree that almost as soon as Hitler had taken power in Germany, Bohr played an active role in rescuing Jewish physicists out of Germany, typically offering them haven in Copenhagen before they could take up permanent residence elsewhere.[a] As for Sweden during World War II and especially in the autumn of 1943, it was far from certain that they would accept Danish Jews attempting to escape Hitler's deportation order. As related by Bohr's friend Stefan Rozental[30] and the historian Richard Rhodes,[31] Bohr was immediately smuggled out of Denmark in order to secure his services for the Manhattan Project. But rather than proceeding promptly to the United States, as had been planned for him, on 30 September 1943 Bohr persuaded King Gustav of Sweden to make public Sweden's willingness to provide asylum, on 2 October 1943 Swedish radio broadcast that Sweden was ready to offer asylum, and there followed quickly thereafter the mass rescue of the Danish Jews by their countrymen. Repost from last thread.
FYI, just got the following email Hello ***, We are sorry to announce that due to legal and regulatory pressures, Intrade can no longer allow US residents to participate in our real-money prediction markets. Effective immediately, US residents can no longer open an Intrade account. Existing US customers are asked to close out all open predictions and request a withdrawal for the final balance of their Intrade accounts before December 23, 2012...We strongly urge all US customers to read this information immediately and begin the process of closing their accounts. We understand this announcement may come as a surprise and a disappointment to our US customers, but this in no way signals the end of Intrade in the US. In the near future we'll announce plans for a new exchange model that will allow legal participation from all jurisdictions – including the US. We believe this new model will further enhance Intrade position as the leading prediction market platform for real time probabilities about future events. For our non-US customers, we will continue to offer real-money prediction markets. In the coming weeks and months we plan to implement a number of improvements to the Intrade website. These include expanding our market categories to include sports, adding more convenient funding options and a new and improved trading interface. We'll keep you posted on these initiatives as they develop. Kind regards, Carl Wolfenden Exchange Operations Manager Intrade – The Prediction Market Posted by: Methos at November 26, 2012 09:30 PM (hO9ad) 12

Misogyny Of The Left
More: http://politicalhat.com/?p=634 Misogyny Of The Left Posted on November 26, 2012 by The Political Hat It has long been the trope of radical Feminists that women had to be able to stand on their own and be free to follow whatever life-path they wanted, without needing to rely on men or “The Patriarchy™.” This drive to overthrow “The Patriarchy™,” even went to far as to banish the root “-man” from terms such as “chairman” and replace it with the more clunky “chairperson” or simply “chair.” This is despite “man” originally meaning just a person, with a woman being a “wifman” and a male being a “wer” or “wćpman/wćpnedman.” Despite the stated desires to abolish “andro-normative” oppression, Feminists have become what they claim to most hate: Weak little things that need a man, or patriarchic substitute, to protect them. Pictured: The Left's view of "womyn" The first crack in the oh-so-false façade was seen during the Clinton Presidency. Clinton was accused of sexual harassment and even rape. Yet, despite this, the radical Feminists did not attack or even question Clinton; they went after his female accusers. The radical Feminists did not care about women, they only cared about attaining a few political goals, chief among these being extreme abortion practices. The second major crack in the radical Feminists’ façade was seen when Sen. McCain chose Sarah Palin for his Vice-Presidential running-mate. Rather then celebrate a successful reformist governor being on a major party Presidential ticket, the radical Feminists attacked so savagely that no male could do even a fraction of the same to a left-leaning female candidate. Palin balanced both being Governor and raising a family. The radical Feminists have always said that they wanted for women to have a choice on how they lived their own lives. What these radical Feminists really meant. was that women should be “free” to choose what the radical Feminists believed women should choose. The need to destroy this fictional “Patriarchy™” to free “womyn” necessitates that all “womyn” think in lock-step with the radical Feminists. If a woman dares think for herself, the radical Feminists will destroy her more viciously than any gentleman would ever dare to even consider the contemplation of! The third, and most telling, crack in the Feminists’ façade, is now being seen under Barack Obama. This can be most clearly seen by the “Life of Julia” campaign where a seemingly husband-less “Julia” travels through life totally dependent on patriarchal statism to provide that money and support she no longer need to get from real men. Indeed, in the left’s and Obama’s worldview, the STATE becomes father, brother, uncle, boyfriend, provider, and lover, all rolled up into one. In return for this ” Patriarchy™”-free patriarchal statism, all women have to do is vote the way they are told to vote and help bring down the “Kyriarchy.” But radical Feminism has not come full circle to the past they have professed to hate: A weak woman who needs a man to protect her. The Republicans’ criticism of Ambassador Susan Rice have resulted in the left calling Rice’s detractors “sexist.” Apparently “sexist” comments refer to comments assuming a woman’s competency. The culmination of this, was Obama’s statement that “if they want to go after somebody, they should go after me.” Obama is acting as the ultimate macho stereotype of a strong man standing up to protect a weak woman. We have truly arrived at a situation where not only is the state protector, provider, boyfriend, brother, and father all rolled up into one, but where a woman being strong and independent is considered an affront to feminism, but where a woman being weak and incompetent is considered a paragon of feminist virtue. re 39:
ST. PAUL – In a statement released just one day after Governor Sarah Palin’s historic acceptance speech as the first-ever female Republican vice-presidential nominee, the National Organization for Women declared Palin’s candidacy “a cynical effort to appeal to feminist voters” and a “slap in the face to real women everywhere.” “She may be an intelligent, motivated, highly successful professional woman,” NOW President Kim Gandy said, “but she’s the wrong woman. She’s a bad woman. She’s not even half the woman Joe Biden is.” Gandy cited Biden’s support for pay equity, his authorship of landmark domestic violence legislation, and his “lovely tribute to his mother” in his own acceptance speech as stark contrasts to Palin, who, according to Gandy, “foolishly believes in carrying all pregnancies to term” and “has consistently put herself and her career ahead of the fight for women’s rights.” “It would be best for everyone if Sarah Palin would just stay home and raise her kids,” Gandy said. ”When you have one child with Down syndrome and another with an unwanted pregnancy who won’t even consider the ease and convenience of abortion, you need to be a better mother, not Vice President.” Posted by: malllfly at November 26, 2012 09:50 PM (jDjlM) Posted by: Walter Sobchak at November 26, 2012 09:51 PM (uis79) Posted by: Guy Mohawk at November 26, 2012 09:51 PM (n/ubI) 71

The Nod is something that passes between men,an understanding.Like, you see a guy going into a chick flick with his girl when you are going to an action movie with your friends. He'll give you the Nod meaning,"yeah, this sucks but I'm hoping to get laid later."You'll nod back in complete understanding without knowing the guy or uttering a word.

Person of the year: The Taker.
The cover photo should show the Taker with two faces: one, showing a loving expression toward a portrait of TFG. The other, foaming and drooling with hatred at pictures of those who are famous for actually creating things. Sam Walton, the founder of Chick-Fil-A, people like that. Bohr reminds me of this little historical bit found in the wiki for aqua regia acid (which I only found because I looked it up after watching Clu Gulager mention the acid in Return of the Living Dead) When Germany invaded Denmark in World War II, Hungarian chemist George de Hevesy dissolved the gold Nobel Prizes of German physicists Max von Laue (1914) and James Franck (1925) in aqua regia to prevent the Nazis from confiscating them. The German government had prohibited Germans from accepting or keeping any Nobel Prize after jailed peace activist Carl von Ossietzky had received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1935. De Hevesy placed the resulting solution on a shelf in his laboratory at the Niels Bohr Institute. It was subsequently ignored by the Nazis who thought the jar—one of perhaps hundreds on the shelving—contained common chemicals. After the war, de Hevesy returned to find the solution undisturbed and precipitated the gold out of the acid. The gold was returned to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Nobel Foundation. They re-cast the medals and again presented them to Laue and Franck. 'sup jackwagons Posted by: IllTemperedCur at November 26, 2012 10:08 PM (Rhie+) 132

hmm military uses of rare earth magnets, from TechNewsDaily, Apr 4, 2010
From battle tanks to drones The U.S. Department of Defense did not have details on national security risks related to a possible rare earth shortage for the GAO report. But it plans to complete its assessment of dependency upon rare earths by September 2010. Military officials did stress how rare earth elements form a currently irreplaceable part of devices such as lasers, radar, missile-guidance systems, satellites and aircraft electronics. And many military systems also rely upon commercial computer hard drives that use rare earth magnets. Even more specific examples of rare earth-driven technologies include the navigation system for the M1A2 Abrams battle tank, and a new hybrid electric drive in the works for the Navy's DDG-51 destroyers. Rare earth elements might eventually become part of the U.S. National Defense Stockpile, according to the GAO report. Yet the world's largest producer of rare earth elements may already be one step ahead: The rare earth unit of China's Baotou Iron & Steel Group gained official approval in February to begin building a strategic reserve of rare earth elements, China's official newspaper, People's Daily, recently reported. So a 3rd young boy has accused the Elmo guy, and star PBS employee, of being a child molester.
And other reports show the scumbag wasn't shy about parading around NYC with his latest boy toy. Apparently it was an open secret that he like 14-15 year old boys. Which means PBS and Sesame Street knew and covered it up to protect the brands of Elmo, Sesame Street, and PBS. When do we get flood the zone coverage that the Catholic Church and Penn State got? An Army private charged in the biggest security breach in U.S. history is trying to avoid trial by claiming he’s already been punished by confinement conditions that a United Nations torture investigator called cruel, inhuman and degrading.
Pfc. Bradley Manning is expected to testify about his treatment during a pretrial hearing starting Tuesday at Fort Meade. The young intelligence analyst has never spoken publicly about his nearly nine months in the Marine Corps brig in Quantico, Va., from July 2010 to April 2011. The hearing is scheduled to run through Sunday. Manning was confined alone in a 6-by-8-foot cell for at least 23 hours a day, according to documents filed by the defense. For several days in January 2011, all his clothes were taken from him each night until he was issued a suicide-prevention smock, military officials have said. Cry me a fuckin river. What's up with that anyway? Why is Massachusetts one bid Kennedy Kult? Posted by: Gregory of Yardale at November 26, 2012 09:29 PM (azHfB) I have no clue. I would never vote for a Kennedy! I never voted for Teddy K, I would skip it if there wasn't an opponent or write in my own name instead. The older people loved JFK, what's left of them, they think they are American Royalty. People that have moved to MA recently do not know about Teddy K killing Mary Jo. I make sure to fill them in, they are horrified that he continued to be reelected. A friend of mine was down the Cape a few years ago, he's 77 now, he's originally from PA. He told me that he saw a few old timers at Chappaquiddick and they were awed by the strength of Teddy to swim out of there, no thoughts on the poor woman he left to die in that car! While chasing bad guys and solving crimes is a rush, the toughest thing I ever had to do was notify the parents that their two teenage kids were dead - killed in a car wreck on prom night. I worked in a rural area, where everybody knew everybody else, and the parents and I knew one-another. Damned tough this to do, I tell you. Now, back to the rafters. Carry On. "237 Men, they are fascinated with the boobies. Posted by: Mayday at November 26, 2012 10:41 PM (F3s39) " There was a really funny line in some movie. A nursing mother asks a guy why men are so fascinated with boobehs. He says, "Look at your son. A guy will never be happier than when he has a face full of boobs." Posted by: nerdygirl At the 18th c. ball I attended in Germany last Sat., this topic came up and several people remarked that even gay men like to revel in a nice rack. They were breast-fed too. It's just something that's stuck way way way way way way way way way way way way back in the brain when people are at their most tiny and helpless. Boobs are comforting and delicious. Being a cop: read Soldier by Anthony Herbert, Serpico by Peter Maas, The Godfather by Mario Puzo, J. Edgar Hoover The Man and His Secrets by (I forget), The Politics of Lying by David Wise and Mindhunter by John Douglas. What this means is that you will bring training, hard work and good intentions to bear while working for boobs, some of whom are corrupt and some of whom are Peter Principle promotions, masquearading as managers who are afraid of you who will sabotage your work sometimes by accident and sometimes on purpose. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, chefs, hairdressers, teachers, fire fighters, nurses, waiters, secretaries, administrative assistants, landscapers, ditch diggers, FBI agents, Secret Service agents, pilots, drivers, priests, nuns, If you lose your way you will lose your family, sobriety and soul. If you keep your bearings you will collect the retirement theyowe you and be able to face anyone and ask them the hard questions life presents. On top of all that then read No Angel by whats his name who infiltrated the Arizonal Hells Angelsand watch Donnie Brasco and Casino to find out how screwed up it is to be a made man or a patch holder. On a completely different subject, being that I just repainted our front door......our door knocker is left over from the family who were here in 1986 (and did significant remodeling).....there were several other owners and then us. We haven't replaced it, even though it's engraved "Graves".....but now we're thinking about it.
Problem is, having a door knocker that ISN'T engraved looks lame -- and, just like on the internet, putting any personal information out there just invites some jerk to try to use it for nefarious purposes. So I'm thinking of having one engraved with "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" ["In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming." -- pronunciation probably like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu-akdyxpUc or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOA5Chz3iU4]. Buddy is an ER doc. Foreign object stuck in rectum is surprisingly common. And the excuses tend to be either: 1) Was pushing in a hemmorhoid and went too far. or 2) Tripped and fell on object. One ER story. Dude comes in with stomach pains. Asked standard questions. Says he hasn't eaten anything unusual, no idea why he's in pain.
They eventually have to do an x-ray. Find a tube stuck in his rectum. He say, oh yeah, that's a plastic cigar case. Slipped in when pushing in a hemorrhoid. He forgot. So docs (my friend) have to get tongs and reach in and try to pull it out. My friend can't quite get it. Another doc, with more experience in rectal removal gives a got. He gets a hold of it with the tongs and starts pulling it out. But then the cigar case shatters. Turns out it was made of glass, not plastic. Now dude has shards of glass in his rectum My friend tells the dude, you have to have surgery now to remove the glass shards. That was at the end of my friend's shift. When he came back the next day he asked the other doc how it turned out. Turns out, the patient just checked himself out of the hospital without getting the surgery. Next night a guy shows up at the ER with a lacerated penis. (Ok, that last bit -- the lacerated penis -- I made up. But the patient really did check himself out with broken shards of glass in his rectum. Probably sued.) Posted by: Flatbush Joe at November 27, 2012 12:17 AM (ZPrif) 470

Two doctors were in a hospital hallway one day complaining about Nurse Nancy. "She's incredibly mixed up," said one doctor. "She does everything absolutely backwards. Just last week, I told her to give a patient 2 milligrams of morphine every 10 hours. She gave him 10 milligrams every 2 hours. He damn near died on us!" The second doctor said, "That's nothing. Earlier this week, I told her to give a patient an enema every 24 hours. She tries to give him 24 enemas in one hour! The guy damn near exploded!" Suddenly, they hear this blood-curdling scream from down the hall. "Omigod!" said the first doctor, "I just realized I told Nurse Nancy to prick Mr. Smith's boil!" re: "And I though Rush's slut joke was funny."
The joke he thought of and didn't quite tell was funny. He screwed it up. He dodged "whore." Couldn't say it. It's probably the most reliable laugh-word in comedy, but Rush is fundamentally nice. I know he saw that "whore" there flaming in his mind, thought calling somebody "whore" was rough, flipped through the ol' mental thesaurus looking for something that doesn't sound quite so Biblically harsh, unwittingly hit on a current feminist pride/trigger word, and bitches went crazy, and the white knight brigades charged. Seriously, it's like comedy rule #1: Call somebody a whore. No one who gets pissy about it is going on a Whore Pride march, and no one who actually is a whore or who thinks whores are OK thinks it's a bad thing to call somebody. They think it's funny. Because it is. I really think his word choice mattered more than any other *single* part of the event/spin/bullshit. Dude looked weak, got wedgied. OK, off on another odd thought.....
I don't paint stuff for a living; I don't like painting, I do it as part of home maintenance stuff, and I hate the maintenance aspects of it -- so I do it sporadically and with old, leftover paint and generally cheap brushes.....and I hate it all the more because the brushes keep leaving hair in the paint and there are clumpy spots in the finished product. So, am I making it worse for myself by hating the crappy brushes, crappy paint, and occasional failures (like finding half a can of hardened paint)......or (as I suspect) would it be even more awful if I had to clean the freakin' brushes for a time equivalent to the time spent painting and saw money fly out the window when I used new paint for each project? If you scrape, Sand and Prime then two thin coats Posted by: Walter Sobchak at November 27, 2012 12:55 AM (uis79) I suspect that there might be some technological thing going on. What I've always known about from the store is latex paint.....but when I think of awesome paint, I think of stuff like they use at Disneyland -- where a million freakin' people run their hands down a painted railing or over a decoration, then thousands of cleaner elves swab it clean at night, and it looks as solid as a stone, with no hint of brushstrokes, empty spots, runs or drips, wear-throughs, bad coverage, brush hairs left on the surface, or chunks of dried paint bonded to the surface by new paint. That stuff at Disney is probably a powder coat where they ionize the paint and charge the rail and it is in a giant industrial spray booth. The paint just sticks to the rail. Do a search on powder coating. Wont do much good for wood...or home projects though.

Lets hope so. The rumor I heard this summer was she was top of the list but has a special needs sister she is the caregiver for and she felt a grueling campaign would be too much. I have no doubt with her on the ticket things wouldve turned out differently. 2016 is going to be a Pro choice Hispanic(Martinez/Sandoval), minority female(Haley/Martinez), minority male(Sandoval/Jindal/Rubio) or RINO with 25% of the primary vote(Christie/Portman). We could do a lot worse than Hispanic female swing state governor. The key is to ensure we have enough pro life senators to keep their feet to the fire on judicial appointments. Posted by: John Stark Dark at November 27, 2012 01:09 AM (PALjS) A bunch of it isn't -- I've seen painters repainting the railings over the years. And in the shops, there was a point where they were moving a cash register and it had broken some paint off a column. There's real wood under there, but there's a hard shell of paint over it -- and the shell is pretty thick, considering. And it cracks like a shell. But it sure as heck isn't "latex enamel" because it's really, really hard instead of yielding. I'm thinking that it's old-school non-latex enamel, but I don't know how that's done or if that's it for sure. Posted by: cthulhu at November 27, 2012 01:24 AM (kaalw) 527

cthulhu,
I use only high quality paint (Behr is damn good stuff) and expensive high density brushes and roller covers. I paint to last. In paint, you really do get what you pay for -- better binder resins, better flow properties (less brush marks), better hiding power, etc. Older paint can be used, but it should be vigorously stirred to redisperse any settled fillers; if the paint has skinned, remove the skin before stirring. You can save some labor on cleanup by putting rollers and brushes in plastic bags overnight; that'll keep the paint from drying and you can just go back to using it the next day. Cleanup works best with dish detergent and warm running water. Posted by: GnuBreed at November 27, 2012 01:38 AM (ccXZP) 532

You can buy oil based paints at specialty paint stores like Sherwin Williams. They will also carry the solvents for cutting and cleaning the paint.
The reason lead was used in older oil based paint (actually in very small amounts) was as a catalyst for curing it. Once cured, it is hard and impervious to most solvents as it is a continuous cross-linked sheet. Posted by: GnuBreed at November 27, 2012 01:44 AM (ccXZP) 536

I'm doing adjustments in various rooms -- like, I did a bathroom window a couple of months ago, and I'm using the same paint for touch-up.....15 years later. Yes, it needs vigorous mixing, but I'm also not doing the entire bathroom -- just the spots that now need it. I'm mostly using little chip brushes or brushes from Harbor Freight. I could go down and purchase another quart of Behr -- even though they'd mix it differently, 'cause they've had to change their colorants. And I could use a nice brush.....except I'd have to extend my painting session with a thorough wash, conditioning, and blow-dry. I shouldn't have to worry that my can is dried out and unusable if I buy a new one; I shouldn't need to be careful of dropping chips of dried paint into the mix, or having unmixed tints at the bottom, or having the damned lid rust if I buy new -- but I run the risk of it being a different color and I'm out the expense. If the areas you are touching up have been exposed to sunlight, after 15 years the original paint in the can is likely not going to match very well either. Posted by: GnuBreed at November 27, 2012 02:03 AM (ccXZP) It did surprisingly well after a couple of weeks -- and, of course, you can feather it in a bit. It did better than using a color-match or reformulated same-flavor paint. Wet paint never looks like dry paint, anyway..... Which spurs me onto another wild digression. Where I went to University, the finals were at 7a-10a, 11a-2p, 3p-6p, and 7p-10p over a week depending on when your class met. Over the course of the 11 finals weeks I spent there, I managed to end up with one case of four consecutive finals [beginning at 3p-6p] and one case of three finals in one day -- so I am well acquainted with the concept of "epic FAIL" when you run out of runway and there's nowhere to go. And I got another dose of that when we bought this house and decided to paint it -- we wanted a shade slightly blue-r and lighter than it had previously been, and selected a paint after many swatches and deliberations......and, yet, missed the fact that the new color "wet" was a spot-on match for the old color "dry and aged". In other words -- if you rolled a wall, you couldn't tell the part you'd painted from the part you hadn't touched. At that point, I could have hired a paint crew from the local Braille institute and had better results. Posted by: cthulhu at November 27, 2012 02:22 AM (kaalw) 546

For your wet/dry match problem, just get close to the wall and view from the side. The wet stuff will stand out as glossy. Posted by: GnuBreed at November 27, 2012 02:35 AM (ccXZP) 553

Daybrother,
Cheesecloth comes in 7 different weaves. Latex paint wouldn't go through a dense weave like a t-shirt very well at all. Yeah, you can use an old piece of fiberglass window screen as a strainer too. You need it loose though, as you might need to fold it up and squeeze the paint through. Thank you for the education. I sorta thought latex would have trouble with a t-shirt as well. I was thinking about soft window screening also---does seem like it would work, but I guess it would be hard to re-use? I'm guessing cthulhu just wants low maintenance. BTW, as a former paint chemist, what do you think of using http://tinyurl.com/6qcjrd3 on wood? Posted by: Daybrother at November 27, 2012 02:49 AM (+paCV) 562

>> BTW, as a former paint chemist, what do you think of using http://tinyurl.com/6qcjrd3 on wood?
Sure, why not. You might want to use a primer coat first, unsealed wood doesn't paint like a metal surface. Be sure and follow their directions, esp. using UV resistant top coats if there will be sunlight exposure. It sounds like their temperature sensitive pigment is subject to UV degradation.
