13 The 1980 Dawgs backed into that national championship.

IIRC, Belue was 1 for 11 passing and the Irish fumbled a kickoff for a gift TD in a bore of a game. Notre Dame barely had a winning record too - something like 6-5.

BCS haters take note.

McDonald's starts testing THREE new Quarter Pounders in bid to turn franchise around. Disappointing sales have led the fast food giant to begin testing new menu items, including three new varieties of its prized Quarter Pounders.

The new burgers in development include a Habanero Ranch Quarter Pounder, with white cheddar, hickory-smoked bacon and a new habanero-ranch sauce; a Deluxe Quarter Pounder, with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, mayonnaise and mustard; and a Bacon and Cheese Quarter Pounder, with American cheese, bacon, red onion, pickle, mustard and ketchup.

34 ND was 9-1-1 coming into the 1980 Sugar Bowl. They were #2 and then lost to USC in the last game of the regular season but they got the bowl bid anyway.

I'll always remember the hero of that game being Terry Hoage. He blocked a field goal early on and provided a big momentum shift that ND really never could recover from.

When I go in McDonalds I get two fillet o fish, small shake w/o whipped cream and cherry and a medium sized coffee. Then I use the paper covered styrofoam cup, at the office, till the paper get all funky.

I remember the same sort of thing happened with Burger King back in the late 80's/early 90's, when they were in the shitter - they were offering all of this nonsense on their menu (remember when they had Chicken Parmesan sandwiches?) and then new management took over, eliminated all of the crap, and focused on selling actual burgers again.

81 You know, I've been thinking about the election, and I've come to the conclusion that it will be seen by future historians as revolutionary. What gets lost in the study of it is that two states quietly entered a state of rebellion against the federal government.

Colorado and one other state just told the feds to take their marijuana laws and shove them up their ass. And since they went for O, he is not able to just send in the jack booted thugs. I think this is going to be a precedent that has very significant long term benefit for red states on a long list of greivances against the federal government.

McCain should have been placed in a "home" a long time ago. He is the same guy that said we had nothing to fear from an Obama presidency. He overlooked the fact that you cannot get re-elected unless you first get elected and the second election here offers us plenty to worry about over the next four years. Will Obama go for the Soviet Union model, the Caliphate model, or the Pharaohnic model of government in the next term?

Speaking of chain gangs, years ago (would have been in the late 1980s), I was a patrol officer and taking my lunch at a local diner. Seated next to me was an Ohio DOT crew. An old lady walked up and said that I was very nice to let the chain gang eat lunch in a restaurant. I explained to her that the men were not a chain gang but worked for the State of Ohio. She then replied that they should take better care of their uniforms and walked away.

I thought it was funny; the ODOT guys, not so much.

In High School, 1971, I worked at one near the State School for the Deaf and an Air Force base. One week, the entire weekend grill crew was transferred out. That left me to do meat, toast buns and make french fries, dress buns and make fried pies, fish and milkshakes. That's usually a three man crew back then. On Saturdays and Sundays we would do 400+ patties an hour between 12pm and 8pm along with about 200+ fries, 100+ fried pies and 100+ milkshakes.
After two weeks of this my manager told me he liked my hustle and would get me a "Big" raise. The next Saturday he told me I will get five cents an hour starting the next week. I handed him my shirt and said, "Run this fucking grill yourself for forty cents a day asshole" and walked out.

Hard to find pitchforks and torches these days due to OSHA and EPA regulations. Actually using them is sort of like having to get up and go to work each day, and fewer and fewer of Americans do that.

When you look at Obama's disastrous first term (by any objective or subjective means) and can be enticed by any means to vote him in again, as some ~53% of voters (including dead and illegals, repeat union voters etc.) did. Then you know that the nature of the country has shifted in what is a probably irretrievable manner, and not in a good way.

Whistling past the graveyard and saying well Obama didn't really get a mandate, and the popular vote was really pretty close so we barely lost is a variation of the ostrich ploy and will only benefit the Roves and other campaign advisors. If Obama hadn't had such a disastrous record that even some rational Dems were concerned, the final tallies would have been more like 60/40 Obama.

244 IIRC the Houston Oilers once forfeited a game under owner Bud Adams. This was when he was posturing for the county/city/metro area to build him a new stadium. The Astrodome field was poorly prepared for the game (on purpose?) and the officials ruled it unsafe to play on. Forfeit.

Instead of rallying support to his cause, the citizenry told him to not let the exit door hit 'em where the Good Lord split 'em.

A few years later we'd built a new stadium for Bob McNair and the Texans, but never for old Bud Adams [spit].

When most people are content doing "well enough" without working very hard (or at all), as opposed to making sure they "do well" by hard work and personal responsibility, then it takes a cataclysm to change the order of things. Unfortunately, in an highly integrated technology based economy, it doesn't take much to shift from a relatively stable environment to complete chaos.

252 Obama-ism.
We got a heavy dose of FDR's "New Deal" which hurt the country in ways that are too broad and profound to completely categorize, but somehow we shook off a lot of it, and moved on. But it laid the groundwork, the foundation for the last generation of rotten politics. Of which Obama is the culmination.

And his politics is a heavier dose of political poison than we could stand.

This latest dose of poison will be harder to shake off. Things are going to die in terms of political and social institutions, that will never come back.

She's a smooth collie (sable color).

Her ears are taped into position -- literally with tape -- to train them to sit high on her head and to "tip" at the ends. It' doesn't hurt her at all.

She *is* quite smart. She's about the same age that other pup was when we got her (just over 10 wks), but she's much further developed. Our other collie was the runt; Little Debbie wasn't.

257 The only McDonalds I use is the one near my home. It has to be the best one in the country. Everyone is cheerful, helpful, and efficient. Squeaky clean restrooms. They even have a hostess who finds you seats, answers questions, brings you extra napkins. And they always get your order right in the drive-through.

Lots of high schoolers and retirees working there with a few Hispanics. My favorite was the high school kid who ran the drive through speaker a couple of years ago and did impressions of famous people when he was taking your order. He was pretty funny, too!

When I have to stop at other McD's on the road or with grandkids, I am struck by how bad they are compared to the one near my house. I think the owner should train franchisees everywhere.

262 Collies are smart. My great grandmother had a collie kennel about 1500' from where I live now, right around the corner. She had chickens in a henhouse too. That was the 1940s-70s til she got too old.

My mother raises Labradors. I preferred the collies, but they're both good breeds.

One thing that helps with accidents is putting jingle bells on the door they to out. Ring the bell whenever you open it. They will learn to hit the bell when they have to go out.

266 249 The final score of any forfeited NFL game is 1-0. It just so happens that it is the only way a team can score one point by itself, and not as a point after try.

That's very interesting! I didn't know that. I've always thought that it was strange that there was no way to score just one point in football.

I don't know if it's a hard and fast rule, but I've heard of forfeited baseball games where the score was recorded as 9-0.

Posted by: rickl at November 25, 2012 11:12 AM (sdi6R)

I've read about this technique. I'll see if that will work.

With our first collie I just watched her like a hawk and was really pro-active about taking her out on a schedule. Plus, we crate-trained her. She had very few accidents.

Mr Y-not was on night nurse duty last night. Puppy slept in her crate from 8'ish to 1'ish, cried a little, went back to sleep, then up at 4 to pee/poo. (Her breeder worked early shifts so 4 am was her normal wake up time.)

I'm on night nurse duty tonight so I'll probably be on the ONT!

I read "Atlas Shrugs" over 30 years ago, and while we can debate endlessly how good/bad it was written, it has seemed over the last few years we are actually living out the novel. That was acutely clear from the magazine cover of half of Manhatten dark after "Superstorm" Sandy.

My hubby and I went out to dinner last night, and wanted to try something new, so wen't to a place called Mothers, near Annapolis.

I sat down and first damn thing I saw on the menu was an Obama Turkey Burger, It pissed me off, so I asked the manager why they thought it was wise to do that.

He said one of the owners was a democrat, so I Said, well since IMO this man is destroyingour country, I can't in good conscience eat here and support anyone who supports him, so we left.

Can't even enjoy a damn burger without barky screwing it up. Sheesh.

I haven't seen MSNBC in a really long time, btw. I was shocked by how hateful and ignorant they were. There is no truce possible with these people.

Here's the description;
Obama Turkey Burger
"yes it’s good!" pan-seared seasoned ground turkey patty topped with grilled apple slices, smoked gouda cheese and balsamic onions. served with a side of homemade mango chutney mayonnaise

I think it has to do with the whole Michelle Obama eat less red meat thing, who knows.

Buy yourself a Vizio 1008 tablet, which is pretty neat but slow. They were about $190, but now I bet you can get one for $120 or so.

They have a IR TV remote program on them. I can not stand CNN, so I usually change the channel in the airport. If it won't change the channel, I mute the damn thing. Drives them crazy trying to figure out how it is muting. I sometime carry it and my Google Nexus, just to have the remote with me.

300 The McD's by my house has good coffee but they forgot to tighten the lid on it one day a few months back and it spilled on me when they handed it to me in the drive through.

Now I only go there for the coke, ice cream cone, fries or pies. Have not had one of their burgers in decades. There are too many places around here with way better burgers.

The Starbucks by my place is okay. Peppermint mochas baby! My son loves their lemonade and black ice tea mix as does my wife.

By the way I am bummed! Out of leftovers and very little pie left. Need. More. Pie.

Not only does it have the remote, it has a HDMI mini output, so you can play movies or net flicks on your big screen TV. It also takes a memory card. If you get one, I have two, do NOT do the system upgrade for android. The old system is faster. The processor is slow, but the screen is hi def. Plays net flicks just fine.

315 You may be able to deduct up to $2,500 of the interest you paid on student loans on your federal individual income tax return. The deduction is not limited to government-sponsored loans, but does not apply to loans made to students by family members. The Tax Relief Act of 2010 extended the student loan deduction through 2012. After 2012, the deduction will revert to a previous tax law in which interest on a student loan is deductible only for the first 60-months of repayment.
