It's not hard to see why companies view modern unions as a slow-growing malignancy. You may survive for a while with some quality of life but in the end the cancer always kills the host. Many people think of labour unions as organisations to benefit workers, and think of employers who are opposed to unions as just people who don't want to pay their employees more money. But some employers have made it a point to pay their employees more than the union wages, just to keep them from joining a union. Why would they do that, if it is just a question of not wanting to pay union wages? The Twinkies bankruptcy is a classic example of costs created by labour unions that are not confined to paycheques. The work rules imposed in union contracts required the company that makes Twinkies, which also makes Wonder Bread, to deliver these two products to stores in separate trucks. Moreover, truck drivers were not allowed to load either of these products into their trucks. And the people who did load Twinkies into trucks were not allowed to load Wonder Bread, and vice versa. All of this was obviously intended to create more jobs for the unions' members. But the needless additional costs that these make-work rules created ended up driving the company into bankruptcy, which can cost 18,500 jobs. The union is killing the goose that laid the golden egg. How a 100 Million Year Old Coastline Impacts Presidential Elections If you've ever wondered about why there's a blue streak in an otherwise red southeast, read the article to find out why. Politics About Family, Not Policy? Stunningly, the postponement of marriage and parenting - the factors that shrink the birth rate - is the very best predictor of a person's politics in the United States, over even income and education levels, a Belgian demographer named Ron Lesthaeghe has discovered. Larger family size in America correlates to early marriage and childbirth, lower women's employment, and opposition to gay rights - all social factors that lead voters to see red. Interesting thing about married vs. unmarried split amongst the electorate, is that the left has the low reproduction rate while conservatives have a hight reproduction rate.
Non-white groups tend to increase by immigration and first generation births. After that, the population numbers drop like a rock. With Mexico's has dropped to 2.27 from nearly 2.7 a decade ago, and continues to fall. Already many Latin American countries have fertility rates below replacement levels. The biggest demographic (and perhaps only demographic) boom will be amongst conservative whites, as they as a group will be the only ones above replacement levels. Considering that conservative whites are the left's demographic Emmanuel Goldstein, this bodes well for non-socialists. Perhaps we are already seeing this by Romney WINNING the white youth demographic and the white women demographic. Posted by: The Political Hat at November 21, 2012 10:28 PM (sZTYJ) 55

Bacon Bourbon Dressing
Take a pound (or more) of bacon and cut it up into little bits. Heat it on very low for an hour until the fat melts, but doesn't burn. Add shallots, onion, garlic, sage, pepper, celery. Turn up the heat and salt as desired. Add this to two different types of quality artisan bread (according to taste) that has been roughly cut up. Add in a couple of beaten eggs and crushed black walnuts that have been heated on a cast iron pan for about 10-15 minutes. Top off with 2 or 3 shots of your favorite bourbon. Place mixture in a cast iron pan and top off with butter or margerine. Heat covered with foil for the last 1/2 hour of cooking for your turkey. Enjoy the dressing and finish off the bourbon. Some of it was formula for the baby. Well, she turns sideways, and I see she is apparently pregnant with another one. It was all I could do not to say "you can't afford to feed the one you got, and yet you have the nerve to bring another one into the world on our dime?" I held my tongue.. What lies back of fecundity... No duh, Lesthaeghe. Except your research doesn't point out the cause of the difference in both fecundity and politics.
Generally speaking, the people getting married and having babies love life, and the Giver of Life. The ones who aren't by choice having babies (or even fucking the opposite sex) love death the way we love life. God, or Moloch. Posted by: Thorvald at November 21, 2012 10:42 PM (1V6Pv) 98

Pardon me what I rant:
I was listening to Rush today and one of the callers was talking about unmarried women and how they pretty much all break for Obama on account of their whoring/sloring ways requiring a need for abundant and exquisite birth control pills that not only thwart procreation of burdensome leeches but also clears up complexion too. 68% of unmarried women breaking for Obama. What offends me, in addition to having to deal with such a small dating pool if all you want is someone with the good sense not to keep voting to murder this country every single fucking chance they get, is that you have conservative women dwindling the pool even more by shunning conservative men and marrying fuckface liberals. Something our very own Mary Katharine Ham has done, which is why she's dead to me. I'm half inclined to go visit Israel and join the IDF just so I can have the pleasure of being hogtied by gorgeous Israeli women who understand what freedom really means. ------------------- That's WIC, which is its own insane ball of wax. Foster parents in the agency that I know best (it's apparently different all over) MUST participate in WIC if they have a foster child five or under, regardless of the household income. The logic is that the stipend is the child's income, which makes the child low-income, so child is entitled. Income requirements for WIC are always way different from foodstamps. But yeah...probably the majority of people you see with the stupid WIC vouchers aren't foster parents, but when it does hold up the line, I tell myself that the person *might* be a foster parent and it makes me a little calmer. Posted by: The Political Hat at November 21, 2012 10:28 PM (sZTYJ) It would be nice if it happens, but so many of those white girls having babies are of the unmarried variety, and of the multiple baby daddy variety. Mexico's current birthrate is right at the replacement level. 40 years ago they were averaging 7 kids per woman. hispanic immigration has actually achieved a negative flow. The future belongs to conservatives who love their families, love their country and love freedom from all things federal government. The secularists will die of their own inability to breed. Their focus will remain narrow, on their own selfish desires, until they fade into a grave of obscurity and meaningless. This already has started happening in Israel. This deserves being brought over from the previous thread. Read what an
LA screenwriter thinks of Georgia, Texas and other "secessionist" states and all the flyover states (as printed today in the Savannah Morning News....for some reason). Brace yourselves. The only thing that libtard claims that we'd even miss is the venture capital. Which is denominated in US Dollars. Think about that a second. I once had a friend in Savannah that I visited frequently (well, once a year at Spring break) until we had a big falling out over something stupid. But having visited Savannah a bunch of times, it's a toss up as to what will kill you first; the drunkeness of the white people that live there or the incredible incompetency of the African American population. It's pleasant in the Spring and Fall, but so G-D hot and humid in the summer it's unbearable (which leads to all the drinking). The Piggly-Wiggly supermarkets are kept like walk-in coolers during the summer. Posted by: Reader C.J. Burch is Eddie Willers at November 21, 2012 11:18 PM (Md8Uo) 231

I frequently encounter zombies at my grocery store. Using their carts as walkers / support equipment, they stagger aimlessly through the aisles and clump together at the end caps. It's difficult to get around them or make a passing move. If you go to a deserted area of the store, they will follow you and all congregate around the items you are shopping. The freezer bunkers are traps!

The liberal assholes and the media have scored a touchdown, it should have been reviewed, but wasn't , and they kicked the extra point. So by rules we have to move on, can't throw the challenge flag ( but we should have) We now get the ball back, after having to play defense for way too long. What exactly is our game plan? I say run the ball up their gut. They have no defense. It's all talking smack. Old fashioned grind it out football, punish them. Make them cry for time outs that they don't have. I am horrified, just horrified to confess this, but because of circumstances beyond my control, I was at the Justin Bieber concert tonight.
I am more horrified to admit that it was an enjoyable show. And I generally hate pop music. More of a Roger Waters/ Peter Gabriel gal myself. However.. the Bieber show was well done, nicely paced, had high production values and a very, very positive message. Plus... NOT sleazy. Hate to say it but thumbs up to the Bieber. I am from the smoldering ruins of the once great Motor City. Failing to
dress properly for a cold winter day in FL would cause extreme discomfort. Doing the same in MI would cause death. The problem with SF is not that it gets seriously cold, it is just that it never ever gets warm. Used to drive from Travis AFB to SF and on a hot summer day the temperature would drop 30 degrees in a 30 minute drive.

An idle thought on the subject of political theory.
I invite morondom assembled to pick it apart and improve it. (Although I don't expect you to do.). Particularly interested in Llarry's input. Inspired by the latest VDH over on PJM. Divide. Then conquer. This is what the left does and it is what we must do, too, no matter how distasteful it is. All the while, portraying ourselves as class-free, race-free uniters. "Post-racial" is a term that springs to mind somehow. What people like Bill Kristol are missing is not that identity politics works-- they get that it does. But rather, it is pointless to actually give what you promise to give, for in solving a particular grievance, one can no longer demagogue it. The left instinctively gets this. In order to succeed electorally, we must appeal to people on the basis of tribalism, and studiously avoid fixing any actual tribal problem. The coldest winter I ever spent was the summer I spent in San Francisco - Mark Twain **** I've never been to SF so all I know about it is their politics, the gheys, and what I've seen on t.v. which is to say that it always looks gray and dirty. It LOOKS cold. Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at November 21, 2012 11:59 PM (piMMO) Actually, it's quite an interesting phenomena. The Central Valley of California acts like a gigantic lung. When the ground gets hot in midsummer, it heats the air -- which rises, leaving a low pressure at lower altitudes -- and pretty much the only pass the air can move through is at the Golden Gate. So massive air volumes move from over the Pacific through the Golden Gate and into the Central Valley. Since the ocean water the air was over before it got "inhaled" came to us direct from British Columbia (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Current ), San Francisco gets cold, wet, fast air just as the rest of the state gets warmest. One fairly typical canoe trip on the first weekend in May, the ice had gone out the week before. One day saw big fat flakes of snow on a raw east wind. Good evening.
Okay, so started with the Christmas shopping...sorta. Have *identified* some of the items I plan on purchasing my sister and her daughters, though am waiting to see if I can nick them for cheaper on Black Friday. My leg is doing...well, differently. In my ongoing tale of woe my doctor seems to have filleted the infected area in question and then told me to stop doing my nightly walk/run. SUCK! I enjoy my walks. Not so much the running (though it works great) but the walking is nice. In the meantime I guess I'll focus on upper body exercises. Anywho... In online sales news, Deep Discount is has some really good offers, but a few in particular. DO you like Back To The Future? Would you like it on bluray? http://www.deepdiscount.com/Black-Friday-Specials It's $22 bucks. You got half an hour left. ET for $10. Jurassic Park trilogy for $25. Hurry! Hurry now! We would have weeks of below 0 weather, and a lot of very below zero weather. The worst part was no sunshine for weeks or months at a time. The worst weather I was ever in was in Bemidji MN where I was attending college. -40 temp, with a wind chill of minus 80. I had to go get my books to study from the guy's car I had gone to shoot pool and do karaoke with the night before. Walked about two miles each way.I had on 2 pairs long johns, a mink coat Grandma bought me from the preacher's wife, head wrapped in scarf, Sorel boots, and had to stop every so often to melt the ice in my eyelashes. not quite right. she went to school all slutted up for halloween, like everyone does now. she got hauled into the principals office and the principal said she looked like a porn actress. when the daughter did not know what a porn actress was the principal proceeded to explain porn and porn actresses. no one thought she was dressed appropriately but it is not the place of the principal to be splainin porn - even if it is from her experience.

Thorvald @ #522 - I knew the kinda loser cousin of Bob Dylan. He would wear a guitar strung across his back to school sometimes and play in the school contests sometimes. He did not have the writing ability of his cousin. And there is a bar there now called Zimmy's that has a "Bob Dylan Singing contest" in the summer. I get back home sometimes but ONLY in the summer now. I have relatives that knew Bob back in the day. Posted by: yankeefifth at November 22, 2012 02:20 AM (Z9EHQ) locally for rimfire competions folks are shooting silhouette Steel Challenge Long Range Tactical(out to 300 yards) Ruger Rimfire Challenge 4 position NRA smallbore for semi Auto, almost everyone is shooting a Ruger 10/22. This does not mean the Remington 597 is not a good rifle but it has not been picked up. There are some 10/22's that will put 5 shots in one hole at 50 yards The advantage right now to the Ruger is there are literally tons of options if you want to do any upgrades The 597 looks like agood rifle but I don't have any data to say one way or the other Posted by: jake in ID at November 22, 2012 02:27 AM (2CiZb) 624

Regrettably, unlikely. While I was on the Stanley side of that transaction, the echoes of the bloodletting during integration eventually led to my departure. The infighting was intense but as an executive with nearly three decades with the company, I decided that I knew more about the business than the bean counters making the decisions. I concluded that they were taking the company in the wrong direction so I took a package during one of the waves of reorgs, a six month sabbatical, and a job with their largest competitor. If I ever do have cause to get that way again I will let you know. Thanks for the invite. Posted by: Grumpy the Younger at November 22, 2012 02:42 AM (jts1f) 638

You can do an ordinary furnace swap out pretty quick. More if there's a lot of plumbing or you're switching systems/fuel types.
My cousin and I did one in a day in the middle of winter. Old shitty dry bottom boiler out, new Smith wet bottom in, 4 new circulator pumps, high tech - "boiler boss" controls and a bunch of new wiring. Posted by: @PurpAv at November 22, 2012 03:36 AM (sc97R) 666

Oh, a hot air furnace... ...I hate duct work. They're common in apartments/condos, because they're the cheapest you can buy initially, but the quality of the heating sucks compared to a boiler system. Radiant is probably the slickest and most satisfying but its expensive to install and there have been some issues with the PEX tubing leaking Posted by: @PurpAv at November 22, 2012 03:47 AM (sc97R) 676

Another issue with radiant heating is that one still has to install ductwork for air conditioning. When we did a thorough restoration of our Victorian I wanted to install radiant heating, but we couldn't justify the cost of two separate systems, and in Pasadena A/C is a must.
