| Youngish Woman With Tuesday-Night-at-the-Firehouse Bingo Arms Flips Middle Finger To Tomb of the Unknown SoldierShe's just exercising her right to be a douchebag, as she herself says. She is, however, not exercising her triceps. If armfat were feathers she could fly like a falcon. A peregrine, I should think. Hey, I'm just exercising my right to protest the thoughtless and crude. I gotta be me, as the douchebag credo goes. So, two things, Sister: 1, clean up your act. 2, a push-up wouldn't kill ya. Speaking of our devolving culture of stupid and the complete collapse of society to come, this article from Buzzfeed very efficiently sums up everything that's wrong with the Internet and our culture more generally. Snark and Small Shiny Objects, Flash and Search Engine Optimization, Celebrities and Sideboob, Breathless Hype and tasteless resort to hucksterism. Oh, and also, some rockets were launched from Gaza into Israeli cities. We've built the world as we wish it were and it's stupid all the way down. As a side-note, Anderson Cooper didn't "own" anyone. He's simply being credited as doing so because he is a Celebrity and a Friend of Kathy's and they needed the grabby headline. As Truman Capote might say, this isn't pwning, this is just typing. The downside of the Internet is like the downside of weed: It makes it far too easy to waste time and far too acceptable to settle for less than nothing at all. Remember when we thought the internet would change the world? We were stupid once, and apparently eager to be so again. Via @benk84.Comments1

Our nation fought the most powerful empire on Earth to attempt to establish the precept that decent men need no King......
over time we corrected the errors of our founding we have the vote to women and we freed persons of color..... we established that the Bill of Rights and unfettered access to a free market were an unstoppable engine of growth and prosperity.... and Reality TV nation as seen on JACKASS! is demolishing the foundation of liberty. And when you're on a trip with residents to the assisted living facility where you were, you're on company time 24 hours a day. ================= From the link: On Nov. 19 at approximately 6 p.m., we became aware that one of our employees had posted an offensive, inappropriate photograph on her personal Facebook page. The photo was taken at a national historic site in October by a fellow employee during a trip to Washington, D.C. attended by 40 residents and eight staff. The photo has since been removed from Facebook, and both employees have been placed on unpaid leave pending the results of an internal investigation. This photograph in no way reflects the opinions or values of the LIFE organization, which holds our nation’s veterans in the highest regard. We are proud to have veterans serving on our staff and board of trustees, and we value their service. The men and women who have selflessly fought and sacrificed their lives to protect the rights and lives of Americans deserve our utmost respect and gratitude. We are acutely aware that this photo has done a disservice to veterans and we are deeply saddened that it was taken and shared in a public medium. Posted by: Ed Wood VS Godzilla at November 20, 2012 04:18 PM (BsGo+) It's because we've completely destroyed the concept of shame. Shame is portrayed as being something purely negative; "No one should ever feel ashamed, ever, of anything!" Well, that's bullshit. Shame is necessary to civilization. without it, we're just a bunch of fat fucks sitting around watching other fat fucks fuck each other on MTV and then bitching about it. Shame is used to teach individuals how to behave in certain situations. It can be taken to the extreme, and that's when it becomes a negative (I'm looking at you, Muzzie hell holes of the world). But when exercised properly, it's an essential method of socialization, meant to grease the wheels of personal interaction. When you're at a funeral, you don't talk on your cellphone during the service. When you're at a convenience store, you don't barge to the front of the line. When youdent another person's fender, you leave a note and your insurance information. And when you're at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, you don't flip the bird. You can act like a douche all you want, honey. But you've also got the option of keeping your trap shut and practicing some discretion, empathy and g-ddamn SHAME. Remember when the left fanatically claimed that any criticism of them was a violation of their free speech, to the extent that celebrities complained (fucking endlessly) that, for example, "there's no free speech anymore in this country" (Gillian Anderson, said unironically in front of an audience of millions on television)?
Well, apparently they haven't stopped. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequences or freedom from criticism, which they seem to understand only when a Republican is speaking. Republicans may be bottomlessly stupid, but, unlike Democrats, they understand this. What does that make Democrats? Then she can duckwalk back to her car in the parking lot, which has been appropriately decorated to proclaim her shame. Finally, just after she straightens up and just before she gets into her car, a DI can falcon punch her again at 55% power as a reminder to her to always be respectful in the presence of our nation's warriors, veterans, and fallen heroes. It was her personal Facebook page. I'm not sure how her employer was discovered (probably mentions it on her FB page, though.), or how her employer found out about the photo. That said: I'd agree with you if this had been done on her personal time. Presuming she's an otherwise good employee, just being a douche is not a reason to fire someone. This wasn't on her personal time, it was on company time while (if I'm reading her employer's press release correctly) she was supposed to be chaperoning people with various disabilities from the assisted living facility where she works. It's the difference between posting "F Off" on your Facebook page, and getting into an argument with one of your firm's clients on FB. Or posting an audio file of you telling a client to "F Off." Your firm wouldn't be responsible for your behavior, but they would have good reason to fire you to avoid damage to their brand. What's a little unclear is if this was posted on her employer's facebook page, in which case they are all idiots, or if it was on hers. It's not creepy. She acted out in public, then published the record ontoa public forum. We are judged by the company that we keep, and the company chose not to be judged as approving that behaviorby associating with people who encourage that behavior. The problem for a lot of people is that the internet gives them the feeling of closeness, like everyone is their close friend. The world suddenly becomes one giant version of your basement, where you can say and do all sorts of outrageous things. Behavior that was limited to your friends, the kind of people who would normally laugh along with you, now gets seen by everyone. And everyone judges you for it. Don't like it? Use some discretion. It's revealing, isn't it? World-changingly so, maybe. What "we" want to
be is goons, people who summon goons, and people who cheer the goons and the goon-summoners. Actually, that's not true. The popular culture is that way, but the average person still isn't. Every now and then a book or film comes along and proves that people still hunger for something better. Everybody's heard of the Kardashians, but how many people actually watch the show? Kim's wedding got 4.4 million viewers out of a country of 315 million, 95 percent of which has TVs. More and more people are rejecting the popular culture, as evidenced by declining ratings, declining sales, etc. What's happening is what I saw fifteen years ago when I was in the music industry: the death spiral. Every entertainment company now requires that each quarter be more profitable than the last. If it isn't, everybody gets fired. So the new batch of money makers comes in, and since they don't want to get fired, they go for a slightly lower common denominator. It turns off the buying public even more, and the new batch gets fired. The cycle repeats, and the product keeps getting worse and worse. Everything has become a novelty act, like that movie with the women getting diarrhea and the fat pig-woman being a sex maniac. Bridesmaids? I didn't see it, so I don't know. People went to it, but it faded almost instantly. They used to call it the "hit-and-run" strategy, which they used only for movies they knew would tank. Open in as many theaters as possible and hope to recoup as much of your investment in one weekend. That's now the standard marketing strategy for all movies, and all recording artists are supposed to make the charts three weeks after their new CD debuts or else all publicity funds are withdrawn and/or the artist is dropped from the label. And the death spiral continues. Posted by: Llarry at November 20, 2012 04:57 PM (jyUxu) 239

--- They expanded this beyond bad movies because, IIRC, the studio gets a bigger cut of all proceeds in the first 4 weeks than the get in the subsequent weeks. I get the concerny concern, but it's not like people were sneaking around in her sock drawer looking for something embarrassing.
She ran into the public space and screamed HEY, LOOK AT THIS EMBARRASSING THING I DID ON COMPANY TIME! This is very much a case of "no one else to blame." There are borderline cases like swimsuit pics and party pics, where someone isn't representing anyone and it really is none of the public's business, but people should still know better than to make it public. I feel sorry for those people because they're just a *little* dumb, not abyssally stupid like Lindsey. Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at November 20, 2012 05:04 PM (bxiXv) 250

The company she works for provides services for disable adults. It seems she was visiting Arlington with a group of disabled adults clients/patients in the role of paraprofessional aide. That is how she acts? Grow up. Actions have consequences. Furthermore if you are employed as a school teacher, paraprofessional aide, priest, coach etc you will be held to a different higher standard. That's life. If you want to post drunken, douchebag, slutty pictures, obnoxious party pictures all over the internet pick another professional where no one cares about that behavior. Stripper, tattoo artist, porn star are some suggestions where your employer will not care about your asshole pictures. Has digression completely disappeared?

Consider an abusive slave owner circa say 1850.
Posted by: Mætenloch at November 20, 2012 05:14 PM (pAlYe) Consider this was not uncontroversial or generally considered honorable at the time, despite legality (depending on what you term abuse). While the very act of slavery was brutal and unethical (even by standards preceding the era), there were still laws and rules - which slave-holders routinely violated, probably because more than a few were unethical people (even discounting the issue of slavery itself). I would suggest that the *society* of slave-holders was not ethical, certainly in the sense you expect a society to be that would uphold and obey the US Constitution. The same attitudes led to many further attacks on Constitutional principles after the institution was abolished. Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at November 20, 2012 05:24 PM (bxiXv) 276

you seem tp be content thinking one or two minor adjustments and the nation is groovy... I know better we have rot and sickness to our core and retards in charge of the media, academy, and nation No, you seem to think that I think one or two minor adjustments and the nation is groovy. As far as I know I've never said anything even remotely like that. I've been talking about how to win elections, that's all. The rot you speak of didn't prevent Romney coming within 370,000 votes of winning. The more we learn of the Romney campaign, the more we realize that he lost it. For example, he spent four times as much for the same ad time as Obama. The Democrats did the boring, tedious, necessary work to get the best rates, while Romney's people simply threw away huge wads of money because they lacked the foresight to husband their resources. They also hired consultants who told them what they wanted to hear rather than what was actually happening. So, even with the entire media pounding Romney unmercifully and protecting Obama; even with Romney not having the sense to defend himself or explain in detail why his policies were better for the country; and even with the built-in liberal bias of all our learning institutions, Romney still came within 370,000 votes. That's proof that the country isn't in as bad a shape as the gore crows and doom criers claim. Posted by: Llarry at November 20, 2012 07:03 PM (jyUxu) 300

Thank you! Do you guys really think she did this because she wanted to say FU to the troops? Or do you think she was making a crude joke and was tone deaf to do it at Arlington? There's a sign that says "Silence and Respect." She's pretending to yell and showing a middle finger to the sign. She's not flicking off the tomb or the soldiers. And suppose she was making an anti-troop political statement. Should she lose her job because people disagree with her sentiments? I know some of you will argue that even though she has freedom of speech, we have our freedom to boycott and protest her company, in order to bully them into firing her. But while a boycott is constitutional, it is not in the spirit of free speech. We're just using our speech to drown hers out. If a bunch of leftists were bullying the employer of someone that made far right statements, this blog would rightfully be up in arms, crying, "Suppression of speech!" Moreover, I'm disappointed in this blogging community. As conservatives, we don't flip a sh*t when someone makes statements that could hurt someone's feelings. That's the left's BS.
