No, Obama Doesn't Have A Mandate To Raise Taxes, and No, I Don't Think I'm Paying Too Little In Taxes, Says... Liberal Democratic Henchwoman Susan Estrich?

As they say about horses doing arithmetic, this isn't remarkable for what it says but for who's saying it.

Within days of winning the election, President Obama announced that his victory gave him a mandate to raise taxes on the “rich.”

Come again? This was a two-and-a-half-point election. It reflected a painfully divided electorate. The only mandate I saw was to unite a divided country. . . . I did not vote for Obama because I think I am paying too little in taxes.

Obama needs to be very careful. Yes, he was re-elected. But so were all those folks who blocked the extension of the Bush tax cuts if they excluded individuals and small businesses who make enough money to qualify as rich — but not enough to send their kids to college, or help their aging parents, or buy a home in a decent neighborhood.

We need to avoid going over the fiscal cliff. But Obama must also avoid the political cliff.

I've long had a theory that people like Ben Affleck talk up raising taxes on the rich because they know the Republicans will spare them from actually having to pay higher taxes. Thus, it's a no-cost position with social-approval upside: You can agitate for policies that would actually hurt you, and thus seem magnanimous and unconcerned with self, while not actually ever having to do anything beyond speaking a few words.

Partial proof of this is the fact that liberals, as a group, are far less generous in their charitable donations. For people who talk about the poor and needy so darned much, they seem to forget the words "poor and needy" whenever their checkbooks are handy.

So now wealthy Susan Estrich tells us she didn't vote for Obama to be taxed at a higher rate.

My theory is looking better by the minute.

http://tinyurl.com/c7vvl6y

1. DRIVE THE RICH RIGHT OFF THEIR FISCAL CLIFF. The "fiscal cliff" is a ruse, an invention by the Right and the rich, to try and keep their huge tax breaks. On December 31, let ALL the tax cuts expire. Then, on January 1, put forth a bill that restores the tax cuts for 98% of the public.

Michael Moore: Fuck over the rich!

Michael Moore: Hey, WTF! I'm not RICH!!! "

Ace - you give them too much credit. They aren't that smart. They agitate for higher taxes, but they think they'll be able to avoid those higher taxes by just talking with their "tax guy" who will fix it all for them. They think the tax code is all a rigged game - which it is - but that they'll be able to avoid it by some voodoo magic accounting trick that their "tax guy" will devise.

They don't pay any taxes. Almost nobody who works for any government at any level does. This is because of an obscure economic concept called "net."

Relatedly, among the hated cohort who "pay no taxes," the vast majority actually pay a shit-ton of taxes.

But we're deep in "no-cost position with social-approval upside" territory here, so shut up.

I finally did some analysis of the election results (on an earlier thread). The independents came out in the same numbers as last time, but went 10% for Romney, instead of 6% for Obama, the Dem turnout was down 8%, but the Republican turnout was also down - by 5%. All this makes sense, except for the Republican turnout being down.

So look at the state of the personal behavior of a good share of these humanitarians. Shallow, self-indulgent, hurtful to their families and loved ones, greedy to the point of squeezing every dollar out of corporate America that they can get their hands on.

My theory is that they spew all this phony crap about racism, rich people need to pay more taxes, etc. to cover up the reality of their own crappy behavior.

GOP War on Women? Jeebus. Where are women more likely to feel like they have to screw creeps or give them bj's to get ahead than in the entertainment industry? Where are women made to feel that they are over the hill at 40? Who is giving 18 year olds the idea that they aren't complete until they have a pair of huge fake boobs? If Cher and Kathy Griffen want to turn themselves into freaks with plastic surgery, that's their business, but they really need to think about what women in the entertainment industry are doing to themselves before they bitch about the GOP War on Women.

The reason people like Ben Affleck and Michael Moore agitate for higher
taxes is 1) because their wealth is enough that a marginal tax rate
increase of 10-20% doesn't affect their standard of living 2) their
currency is not primarily dollars but social standing, and they actually
want those vulgar businessmen who deal in filthy lucre to suffer
relative to them, the new Kings and Queens, whose reign shall never be
challenged.

And when you want to raise taxes on the productive class, you always pout at any pushback: "but it's only the cost of a cup of cofee a week," you'll cry.

I want you taxed so hard your vajayjay squeaks, Suzy. I want you to get the full Obama good and hard like you deserve. I'll gladly pay more in taxes just to watch useful idiots like Estrus gape in astonishment to find out they're part of the evil rich.

I live not more then 20 minutes drive from DE and I can tell you on most purchases there is very little difference between buying *say, for instance* a comparable television in PA with its 6% sales tax, and the exact same television in DE with its 'alleged' 0% sales tax. States where legal immigrants are taking up residence by percentage.
California - 21%

Liberals want to have much "stuff" for themselves. Look at the costs entailed with our tax money for the portrait paintings of head of EPA as well as the head of Dept. of Agriculture. These are public employees! They work for us yet use our money as if THEY earned it. Do we have royalty running our gov't? Liberals are a bunch of hypocrits.

Limit copyright to 12 years, and then extend it beyond that by paying a percentage of revenue. (More in link.)

It wasn't personal, though; the Los Angeles Times reports it was a bad season for Malibu landlords all around.

However, Buffet, Gates, Spielberg have all asked to pay more. In addition, they have legally avoided paying income tax for many years. So tax all wealth over $1 billion - charitable foundations included. Those are just additional tax avoidance schemes, they don't even distribute the increase in assets on an annual basis.

A few years back Mommy called me up and asked for some help. I asked for what and she said that their neighborhood was trying to keep the owners of the land across the street for developing it into a residential area. The owner had recently died and the kids inherited the land and were planning on selling to a developer. It was a rather nice sum of money. Mommy's neighborhood was up in arms because there went their lovely 100+ acres of undeveloped pasture across the street and how dare their views and quiet neighborhood get spoiled. I told Mommy that there was no possible way I would help with that unless it was to help set up the LLC to purchase the land. She got really mad at me until I pointed out that what she and the neighbors wanted to do was theft, plain and simple. She stopped and said she never thought about it like that. End of that story is that she actually did propose creating a company to buy it but everyone freaked out about having to spend their own money and the other neighborhood got built.

Rich liberals can talk about how super awesome socialism is because they know they're never going to have to experience the harshness of the real thing. Yet.

I know we're all in the camp of "liberalism has prevailed for good" but look at what we're arguing about, tax rates of 35% vs 39%. Before Reagan, we had 70% marginal tax rates. If we still had 70% tax rates, something tells me gay marriage wouldn't be nearly as important to Hollywood moguls.

But if House Republicans cut a deal with Obama, they really should formally change their name to the Stupid Party. Make Obama raise taxes on everyone.

Otherwise, you ain't "rich", you are merely prosperous. You still need a job. Big difference--you could still face poverty if things go south for a year or two. If you are truly rich, absent some disaster, poverty is never really a threat again, no matter what.
