And when, as you pointed out, the children are receiving one or two additional meals per day elsewhere, the money goes further. Plus, unless I am mistaken, low-income families with children receive WIC as well.
Living on foodstamps is no picnic, I can attest to this because my mother, sister, and I lived on them for a while in my teens, yet.... we also lived in Sect 8 housing, received medicaid, and drew a check each month, so the output each month was considerably less than the average person.
That was one of the things that pissed me off so badly about the '30 Days' episode that that asswipe, Spurlock, did about minimum wage. He had to see a doctor and moaned and whined about how he was going to pay the bill yet, at minimum wage, he would likely have no or a reduced bill.
It was an incredibly dishonest show.

This is the real Bears defense. They are no different than they have been in years past. Bend-but-don't-break. The only difference this year is they have played a bunch of BAD teams and BAD offenses so far this season. They finally face a good team and they get exposed.

Well back to writing. About to get two days ahead of the daily goal in NaNoWriMo.
In early 2011, I began writing lyrics to an instrumental (a beautiful waltz). First verse and chorus took about 20 minutes. The remaining 2 verses took a year and a half. However, the woman whom I want to sing them, who has a true 4 octave range, (she is the daughter of 2 of the musicians who play this waltz) says the lyrics are beautiful. When you hear a song, and the first verse and chorus are great but the remaining verses seem forced, it's because the author can't wait a year and a half.

R-E-A-L-L-Y STONED was in, uh,last weekend. Not to highjack this thread, but I've got the routine down to a science. Wake up Sunday morning and munch edible. Do some house cleaning while it gets absorbed. Once I start to feel it, I take a lager or seltzer water to the basement where my studio is and work on music/lyrics projects. After an hour or so, I start to get hungry (mind you, my last meal was the night before), then I hit the frozen fruit bags. For protein later on I'll have a shepherd's pie or something like scallops, mushrooms, onions, peas, and spinach in a cream sauce. Depending on whether my eyes are too dilated I'll read some history (WWII buff) or watch a documentary if they are. Blah blah blah; wears off around dinner time.

Dude, not to take away from the '85 Bears, which Joe Gibbs solved the next season, but find the video from the 1982 Skins playoff game against Minny where at the end of the game the entire RFK stadium is rocking (and the stands are bending) to the chant of "We Want Dallas!". When Dallas showed up the next weekend, several Cowboys remarked that the crowd noise was so loud in the *locker room* that they knew they were in for a long day. The Gibbs I Redskins set the standard for being a loved sports team, esp. that 1982 team.
