Oliver Stone's "Untold History" of the United States Has Been Told 10,000 Times Before, By Cranks, Conspiracy Theorists, & Communist Agents

Stone's 10 part rehabilitation of the Soviet Union's besmirched reputation is playing on Showtime (a division of CBS).

It's a lie from front to back. As Mohnihan notes, there's nothing "untold" about this. It's the same crap that Gore Vidal and Noam Chomsky and the rest of them have been saying since 1945. Every horrible thing the Soviet Union has ever done was done defensively in response to something the US did, or, more often, done defensively in response to something they feared the US would do.

See, they were just trying to be a peaceful aggressive worldwide insurrectionist movement, combined with a peaceful nationalistic expansionist Empire, and the US just kept threatening and "encircling" them with hostility and so they did some things which they're not proud of but you know, we had them against the wall, or we threatened to have them against the wall at some future point.

18 Though, really, this gives a good insight into the minds of Liberals.

We all recognize that there are "Top Dog" liberals who may or may not actually believe the party line, but have figured out (either way) that toeing the party line is a good way to get personal power.

And we know there are "Bottom Dog" liberals who do believe the party line, but we can't figure out why.

It's the battered wife syndrome (which also explains why Democrats treat Republicans that way- it's what they know). The Soviets didn't want to do all those bad things. Not at all. If we just hadn't made them so mad, they wouldn't have. It's our fault, you see.

114 O/T

Just got back from Madrid. I was there when there was a general strike on the 14th.

This is what we have to look forward to. 10,000's of union/government workers that will not take any cuts from their bloated pensions and salaries.

See CA.

Who were these people? About 35,000 marched in Madrid. 2/3 were women. Think Sandra Flute over and over. Age group? Again, 2/3 were 20-30 year olds, the rest, old union hacks.

The afternoon marches were big and peaceful, but as the night went on, the crazies showed up. The burned shit and threw rocks into the crowd, spray painted every ATM and generally were bad actors.

The Madrid cops have seen this before, and they would have made Mayor Daley, Sr proud. The would charge in and beat the shit out of anyone they could catch. The had rubber bullets guns that hurt like hell.

All in all, very depressing. Spain is hanging on by a thread and the takers don't want to stop taking.

This is the USA in four years. We will have to deal with it if we can ever get control again.

The longer these people are on the tit, the harder it will be to get them off the tit.

115 If Japan had threatened to invade Siberia in late 1941 rather than hit Pearl Harbor, WWII would've turned out verrrrry differently. Germany would've been nuked, for starters, but not before it gobbled up even larger parts of the USSR.
Posted by: SFGoth at November 19, 2012 02:30 PM (dZ756)

I think you mean the US would have been nuked. Without Pearl Harbor, it's conjecture that Hitler would not have declared war on the US. Without that and a direct attack on the US, the isolationists and the pro-German factions would likely have kept us neutral. Before Pearl Harbor, isolationist sentiment was very, very high. That, of course, evaporated over night.

"In Roon's view, German staff plans for invading other countries were always hypothetical and defensive, but then the other fellow went and did something stupid that triggered off the plan."

I once got a rueful grin from a Russian friend by drawing that parallel. Even the ones who hate communism are partial to the just-defending-the-Motherland rationale.

181 There was a Leftist Englishprofessor the other day whose supportive comments regarding Stalin wereside-barred here on AoS. According to him, Stalin was a victim of bad press and, according to the professor, no evidence existed proving Stalin committed any crimes.

I'm seeing a trend. The Left is rehabilitating Uncle Joe in an attempt to beautify Marxist socialism/communism. He and Mao have always been obstacles to those selling communism as the way of the future; rather, that mountain of millions of dead bodies both tyrantsproduced during their respective reigns of terror have been the big obstacles in the way of Marxist 'progress' in western countries. Watch as the memory of those millions of dead are sent down the memory hole. After all, JFK was killed by 'a dirty little communist' (in the words of Jackie Kennedy), yet Oswald's political leanings and, er, colorful travel history are now omitted or obfuscated, and Oliver Stone makes millions from a movie promoting the idea that Oswald was part of an evil right-wing conspiracy orchestrated by the military-industrial complex.

Those leading the Left (and the federal government) are emphatically not left-of-center liberals advocating a 'soft' euro-style democratic socialism. They are hardcore, old-school Marxists, and they hate us.

195 I stumbled on the first episode of this POS Satruday night. I knew it was over when there was a 10-miunte hagiography of Henry Wallace. Then there was a tribute to the brave souls who fought for democracy in the Spanish civil war. And the trashing of Winston Churchill who was the last defender of that horrible British Empire. And the depiction of the buildup to World War II as basically a marketing camapign by the defense industy. Even my liberal husband thought it was laughable. We watched the whole thing just for the comedy.

This isn't just about rehabilitating the USSR, it is about making leftists feel like they've been on the right side of everything since Woodrow Wilson. They're trying to re-litigate the Cold War, which of course will certainly lead to a total deconstruction of the Reagan era. That is the real goal, the Left is desperate to airbrush Ronald Reagan out of the history of the 20th Century, because without him it's just one grand march to socalism.

If Japan had threatened to invade Siberia in late 1941 rather than
hit Pearl Harbor, WWII would've turned out verrrrry differently. Germany
would've been nuked, for starters, but not before it gobbled up even
larger parts of the USSR.

Posted by: SFGoth at November 19, 2012 02:30 PM (dZ756)

I think you mean the US would have been nuked. Without Pearl
Harbor, it's conjecture that Hitler would not have declared war on the
US. Without that and a direct attack on the US, the isolationists and
the pro-German factions would likely have kept us neutral. Before Pearl
Harbor, isolationist sentiment was very, very high. That, of course,
evaporated over night.

Posted by: 98ZJUSMC

No, I don't. Why would we have been nuked? More appropriately, how would we have been nuked? No one else was remotely close to building a nuke, and even with our stolen plans it took the USSR several years to engineer a bomb. Aside from the lack of resources, you know why Germany was essentially on the Neanderthal nuke track? Because Hitler considered nuclear physics "Jewish science" that he pretty much wanted nothing to do with.

We were pretty close to war with Germany before Pearl Harbor anyway, as Germany was sinking both armed and merchant U.S. vessels in the Atlantic. FDR would've manufactured a fake viable German nuclear program if necessary and with the globe being gobbled up by Germany and Japan, isolationism would've faded away if it meant flying nukes "over there" rather than sending boots on the ground. We had one of the most powerful navies in the world in 1939 so it wasn't as if we were blind to the world -- we just didn't want our boys dying over there.

222 The Untold History of the United States of America

Part 5a:

A Turning Point at Yalta

(camera slowly zooms in on photo of Churchill, FDR, and Stalin)

After the Meeting at Yalta between Franklin Roosevelt , Winston Churchill, and himself, Joseph Stalin was never able to trust the leaders of the United States of America and Great Britain again.

On the last night of the Allied Powers Conference, Churchill and Roosevelt got the Supreme Leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics stinking drunk on Kentucky Bourbon.

Churchill and Roosevelt then made what they called a "Russian Rotisserie" from the hapless Stalin.

Joseph Stalin never recovered from the incident and was said to have nightmares about it for the rest of his life.

These newly released files from the KGB really revealing for the first time what really happened at the Meeting at Yalta finally allow us to make sense of Stalin's Last Words:

"The polio.....I can still taste the polio...."

I know some people still think it's a good idea, despite the fact that *this* is what it always produces.

But it just isn't. You always hope you can be in charge of it, but the Long March bureaucrats always will be.

Living in the belly of the beast, Los Angeles, I have hadthe opportunity to go to pilot shows and screenings and the like. My friend and I were invited years ago to a show hosted by Michael Medved that was going to be called, "Medved against Hollywood", or something like that. Medved had this panel of celebrities including intellectual juggernauts Janeane Garafolo and Ed Asner. I actually had the chance to witness Ed Asner, clearly senile even then (10 years ago, or so), explain to the audience that the U.S. imposed the iron curtain on the the U.S.S.R. He said it with this air of "Everyone knows that, sheesh."I feel embarrased even trying to explain reality to these people, fearing what will happen when their little rose-colored "reality" bubble bursts.
