Chris Christie Appears on Saturday Night Live And Fits In Perfectly With The Cast (That Is, He's Not Funny)

When I heard Christie was going to be on SNL, I had my own quickie idea for a sketch. Christie plays a salesman selling something silly -- let's say, he sells Crocs. He suggests a type of Crocs to a potential customer -- let's say Blue Plastic lined with Fur -- and the customer balks. At this point someone hands him a microphone and he begins giving a version of one of his YouTube dressing-downs -- playing to the audience of ten other people in the Crocs department -- explaining how our future demands we wear Blue Fur-Lined Crocs and further explaining that the reluctant customer is being taken in by other shoe salesmen who tell her a pack of pretty lies about footwear not having to be blue, plastic, or lined with fur.

After making the sale, he puts down the microphone, handing it off to a younger assistant Crocs salesman, then tries with the next customer, again being handed the microphone. And so on for three customers, with escalating barbs from Christie, maybe one person talks back and then he really gives it to them (suggesting the reluctant customer might be racist).

Anyway, instead, he makes a few jokes about how New Jerseyans are rude and impatient. Several weak jokes are just designed as flattery -- he's wearing the fleece so often, of course, because he's workin' so hard.

This one has been pretty easy here, tbqh. I didn't have to do all that much other than sit out a couple football games on Sunday. That's not all that much change from prior to 11/6/12...the commercials were pretty much always muted to begin with, on those rare occasions when I chose to consume their content.

My main TV watching revolves around the myriad series programs on HBO/Showtime, and I'm living in an extended stay hotel at the moment while moving, so Comcast isn't directly getting any $ either.

I have not considered any GE purchases in quite some time, although I'd love one of those "electric boats". A little out of my price range, sigh.

95 Hey Flatbush,
I find watching the "pop culture that is left-wing" is akin to me watching television programs that are produced by the KKK. Both are repulsive to me to watch, are definitely not fun, and treat me as a subhuman.

Rejecting "pop culture" sometimes isn't done because someone is "anti-fun" but is often done because "we're tired of being portrayed as bigots and subhumans by left-wing assholes".

And that's not fun, no matter how many fuckin' clowns (Gov. "Honko Fatto" Christie) they have on.

Republican Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and John Thune of South Dakota on Friday released a Wednesday letter from Eric Pyenson, A123 vice president and general counsel. …

A123 filed for bankruptcy protection last month after saying it would have to spend $55 million to replace defective battery packs that forced start-up electric-car maker Fisker Automotive, also a recipient of U.S. assistance, to recall its $100,000-plus Karma electric car."

Right, but, who is as good at that as Breitbart was? That's the problem. Are we going to send Ann Coulter who will just say something offensive to get attention and sell a few copies of her book? Are we going to send somebody from NRO or the Weekly Standard, they might be great for policy talks but they won't appeal to the pop culture crowd. In other words, who can do what Breitbart did and be smart while appealing to the pop culture crowd? I can't think of anyone.

Jonah Goldberg is pretty good at this, but he tends to be more serious in mainstream appearances. He can be very funny, but I think when he ends up in an argumentative setting, he is representing NRO and feels that responsibility.

Breitbart just got uninvited, like Coulter. Breitbart didn't show up on MSM shows often.

Gutfeld is very good. Also, James Lileks, but he just doesn't do TV for some reason.

Chris Christie had precisely two selling points. He's a fiscal conservative, and he was willing to get in Democrats' faces. He has stopped on both of those.

Now, he was never that much of a hero to me in the first place. Like so many other NE Republicans, I figured he was better than the Democrats, and about as good as (in his case) NJ was going to get. But he's insufficiently pro-second Amendment, and continually looks for "diversity" instead of "qualifications" in his appointments.

When you add the fact he's looking at a tax increase, right when his residents are going to need every bit of help they can get, and his fawning over Obama, yeah, he's kind of lost his luster.

186 Chris Christie: "Does this fleece make my ass look big?"

Mrs. Christie: "Not as fat as the walrus ass that was underneath it previously."

187 I use to watch SNL, back in the early 90s.

188 I watch SNL on line sans commercials while I do other stuff. It's just not good enough to be the sole focus of my time and I was even less impressed with this episode than usual. A complete waste of Jeremy Renner too. Even their Avengers skit sucked.

189 he's wearing the fleece so often, of course, because he's workin' so hard.it still fits.

192 As heard on the Glenn Beck show, words to the effect of:

"He's coming on SNL to make jokes about Hurricane Sandy, and says he'll die in that fleece. That's HILARIOUS, because, you know people actually have been dying because of this storm, and some of them were no doubt wearing fleece!"

It's funny, because it's ironic. Or at least what Alanis Morissette thinks of as ironic.
