| Pre ONT Blog Data Points...it's all about the Kaizen [Journolist]As some of you may know and as most may appreciate, data is key to establishing metrics and metrics is key to supporting data. I know this may sound like a paradox if not absurd... but in the end it is what it is. We are always watching for trends and are ever compiling organic data points to assist us in our ultimate goal of assisting you. That's just who we are. I can boil all of this down to one word, "Kaizen." It is Japanese for "continuous improvement." And after listening to you and crunching the numbers, we have determined the blog will get more of what you all want...More Cowbell. We are working on some groovy html code on this so just wait... and have patience... it's all about the Kaizen. Thanks and have a nice day. Oh, and can somebody order me a gin and tonic?Comments1

To which I replied in my most deadpan delivery, "Yes, they're great. If only they were Catholic." They just stared at me. Deadpan humor, especially from women, doesn't seem to be too common around here. Posted by: Y-not at November 17, 2012 10:45 PM (5H6zj) 107

I find I am depressed enough without reading Steyn's excellent analyses. If I read them now on a regular basis after Obamao 2.0, I would probably be suicidal! Posted by: Hrothgar - L.I.B or SMOD for the Children at November 17, 2012 10:45 PM (Cnqmv) 108
Really sorry to hear about everyone's troubles, btw. The last thread about jobs had me nearly suicidal. It's just so hard for so many right now.

Friend of mine hit a cow in college while driving a Porsche 914. It just flipped the cow over the top of the car.

The Order of the Holy Cross nuns that taught me in grade school were not exactly bainiacs. In sixth grade I could get them wound up in theological paradoxes and had them sputtering.. It was my idea of fun.
The priests were much sharper and I would never try that shit with them as they would smack me upside the head. The Jesuits in high school actually welcomed being challenged.. they were fun. Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at November 17, 2012 10:47 PM (UTq/I) 113

OK, BYU game is on. I gotta watch. My husband is at the game with some folks some work. Gotta cheer for them. (We're very ecumenical!)

I can't read Steyn anymore. I'm living the decline. I'm living my worst fears for my country. Don't need it narrated to me. I can see it, feel it.
Read Churchill instead. "Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing... after they have exhausted all other possibilities." Or Mark Twain: "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Or Ambrose Bierce: "Vote: (noun) The instrument and symbol of a freeman's power to make a fool of himself and a wreck of his country." Posted by: Llarry at November 17, 2012 10:51 PM (hzR9T) 118
Tayvon Austin from WVU has run for 340 years so far tonight against OSU. Fantastic game. I think the last one to land a punch here tonight is going to win this thing.

I just realized that posting a thread post is like open mike at a comedy club. late in the evening.
Your nervous as hell because you're material is "thin", the audience is a bunch of rowdy, drunk wiseasses who's greatest pleasure is to denigrate anything you say, heckle you and then laugh at your discomfort. NO MATTER WHETHER IT WAS FUNNY OR NOT. So, I must salute our Substitute stand in's. Their bravery and fortitude is admirable. Knowing that NO MATTER what they will be ridiculed and laughed at. There every word inspected and dissected for grammar punctuation, logic and facts. To those who are about to die (or have already stunk up the joint) WE SALUTE YOU!! SAAAAA LUUUUUUTE! There were 121 last year, and they added... Oh, okay, they added Texas State, UTSA, and UMass.

#106 ...glad you get it. Out here in Commiefornia Governor Comrade Jerry Brown was Jesuit trained. I never lose sight of that. The secular communists that elected him never seem to notice that fact. It doesn't make him religous...it makes him ruthless, unbending, and dismissive of people's rights. Exactly the qualities that endeared Stalin to his people.

[i[Comrade Jerry Brown was Jesuit trained.
More than Jebby trained: he was actually in Novitiate for the California Province. I have seen a picture of him at the Southern (now New Orleans) province novitiate in LA (the real LA: cajun style), in full habit. Posted by: Fox2! at November 17, 2012 11:13 PM (1Qpmy) 132

@136, Fidelity...I heard they are thinking about seizing all those 401K's, IRA's from the people who put stuff away for the future, to give to the masses, who think day by day.
401'k's , IRA's...the new crack! The 'gummit' just can't suck one hit! They will be up all night purloining other peoples money trying to repeat that first elusive hit! Continuous Improvement has destroyed many, improved few. Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi clones decide what is an improvement. Things get steadily more desperate till some clever individual fixes it. Then Continuous Improvement starts screwing things up from there.
Posted by: Huggy at November 18, 2012 10:51 AM (5BRt5) 142
My company did the continuous improvement thing. While we don't call it that any more, it's not really gone yet. In reality, there is no such thing. Esy pickups are easy, the next ones require resource expenditure. Eventually, no manager will fund the next level of improvement, so the worker bees look at an obvious improvement possibility and wonder why the managers won't put their money where their buzzwords are. Oh, and by then all processes and procedures are totally clogged with additional overhead from all the improvements that were identified.Ourwork procedures are now so over stuffed, most functions take at least 10 to 20% longer than 5 years ago.
