Update: CIA Talking Points Included Strong References To Al Qaeda; The White House Stripped Them Out

Now I have to tell you I've gone a little further on that headline than the actual article does: It does not say who stripped the Al Qaeda information out of Susan Rice's talking points. Someone did, in some vague "inter-agency process," we're calling it, apparently.

I'm comfortable with my assumption. Cui bono?

It was all a lie. Not just the initial lies, but Obama's feigned outrage at being questioned about it at a debate.

I don't know if this is actually fresh information or if it was available earlier this morning, and I just missed it. But I know it's very important.

Former CIA Director David Petraeus testified in a closed-door hearing Friday morning that his agency determined immediately after the Sept. 11 Libya attack that "Al Qaeda involvement" was suspected -- but the line was taken out in the final version circulated to administration officials, according to a top lawmaker who was briefed.

...

"No one knows yet exactly who came up with the final version of the talking points," [Rep. Peter King] said.

....

"His testimony today was that from the start, he had told us that this was a terrorist attack," King said, adding that he told Petraeus he had a "different recollection."

Still, the claim that the CIA's original talking points were changed is sure to stoke controversy on the Hill.

"The original talking points were much more specific about Al Qaeda involvement. And yet the final ones just said indications of extremists," King said, adding that the final version was the product of a vague "inter-agency process."

Further, King said a CIA analyst specifically told lawmakers that the Al Qaeda affiliates line "was taken out."

This is the problem with all legal proceedings, from court hearings, to Congressional committee meetings, to full sessions of Congress. You can't call fucking liars fucking liars.

The correct response would have been, "Mr. Petraeus, you came here used verbal obfuscation to leave members of this committee, as well as the American people, with the idea that the attack on our consulate in Benghazi was due to a "spontaneous protest." 2) assets on ground had target painters on mortar positions

3) armed drones, a specter c-130, AF fighter-bombers, and at least 1 SF team was either present or in the immediate theater of action and ready to respond

4) A live feed was streaming to the situation room

5) POTUS was notified

6). ???? This is where we start talking about DCI banging a girl

7) Obama went to bed

63 While despicable, the issue of "terrorism" labeling the of this attack is secondary to the biggest issue IMO.

What happened the night of the attack? Who ordered potential rescue efforts to "stand down"? What did the President do during this attack?

It is my belief that the President sat in the Oval Office/Situation Room and watched the attack in real time. I believe that he is the one who refused to aid those under attack. He sat and watched while those brave Americans fight for their lives. Then he went to bed, got up the next morning, and flew to Las Vegas. Then, he sentidiots like Susan Rice out to blame America for the attack via the video. Then, he used hisextramarital affair "trump card" on Petraeus to blackmail his silence until after the election.

Now, the administration has circled the wagons and is relying on those that know the truth to keep silent. And the media does the minimum in exposing this.

As usual.

Disgraceful.

The President made a call to leave those men to die. He denied them protection because he felt the collateral damage would be too politically damaging.

Mr Obama put forth a sonorous political meme because reality did not comport with his allegations that AQ was "on-the-run" and Libya was a "success". Again, because the reality would be too politically damaging.

1. Talking points would have gone from CIA to him, and on to the White House.
2. About two weeks later, he issues a statement saying that Susan Rice relied on intelligence at the time of the statement indicating the attack was reaction to video. (Stephen Hayes notes yesterday on Fox News that Clapper didn't sign his name to this statement. His underling did.)

3. Clapper says yesterday that he doesn't know who drafted / modified talking points used by Susan Rice.
4. Patraeus says today that talking points sent from CIA to White House contained specific information that materially differed from Rice's characterization of intelligence assessments.

I suggest that the best way to undercut a guy like him is to first undercut his press.
There are many conservative blogs like this one. Does anyone know if the multitudes of people who frequent them have ever begun a facebook campaign, a twitter campaign, to out the lackies?

For instance, that silly girl who actually had press credentials to attend the POTUS "presser" the other day, the one on whom the Pres made sure to call, the one who said, "I've never seen you lose"...why have we not organized to make her a laughing stock in every journalism school?
Why have we not gone after Steve Kroft, a "pro", for his editing out that important clip in the 60 Minutes Interview.
Why have we not, in short, organized a year's long effort to reduce the viewership of the worst offenders?
Do we just like to wallow?

You throw that word around like it has no context and meaning.

Where is the case for treason as defined under the law?

There is none- especially for a President.

There is a case for grotesque stupidity, abandonment, perhaps kying or at least obfuscating the truth.

But there is no case for treason that I can find.

He left those men to die. He did not provide them assistance and as a result they died. He lied or at least has not articulates what decisions he made, what he knew and a timeline.

So what? Punishable as treason or worthy of impeachment? Hardly from what I can see.

People had their chance in the election. He won. They don't care.

I think it is more than an assumption, there is no other agency in the process of transmitting the final information other than the White House.

But of course, this is all part of the cover-up. The real questions remain - who denied extra security in the months prior to 9/11/12 (and actually reduced security)? Prez PrissyPants says he gave orders to provide protection during the attack; who did he give those orders to if he actually did? Who didn't obey those orders? Why wasn't the site ever secured even after the attack? Was there rendition at the CIA or the consulate? Weapons transfers to the al queda who turned around and used them against the consulate? A gone wrong conspiracy plot to trade the ambassador for the blind terror sheik?

197 @97 - I don't think there's anything impeachable here and even if the House did you could never get a conviction out of this Senate.

There were bad decisions made about security before 9/11. There may have been bad decisions made during the eight hours of the actual attack. There's been a coverup since, and not a single word that's come out of this administration has been believable.

They're all a bunch of amateurs and they're spinning like hell to cover up their blunders. Some of those blunders are quite egregious, and the spin represents a vein of pure unalloyed executive dishonesty that we haven't seen since Watergate and the Tonkin Gulf.

We're gonna have to see a lot more evidence to convince the American people that there was really an underlying crime, though. Especially when the press is still prepared to take not just a bullet but a full MLRS salvo for this administration.

And the threat of any sort of real action against the executive is really limited by the precedent of impeachment as partisan witch-hunt established by the Clinton impeachment.

There is the law and regulations to criminalize all of us. We are all born guilty and owe our lives to the government. We are not free men any longer. And that's the way Obama wants it.

In ordinary law, that is the law that applies to us and in a sane society would apply equally to government officials, what Choom Boy did in the Libyan debacle (four dead) and what he and Holder did with "Fast Furious" (more than 200 dead, plus at least one Border Patrol agent) would be classified as "Accessory to Murder."

That's a felony, which renders anyone committing one ineligible for public office.

It would also likely fit the Constitutional definition of a "high crime."

Never mind that the punishment for those who are peripherally involved in such heinous felonies tends to be rather more severe than mere removal from office (think prison or worse; in some cases, much worse).

And yes, Osama Obama's actions with various Muzzie states could easily be interpreting as "giving aid and comfort to the enemy." Which is treason. And you know what the prescribed penalty for treason is.

So, despite you and Poppin' Fresh thinking the Traitor-in-Chief is not, in fact, a traitor, there is considerable evidence to suggest that he is exactly that.

265 @212 - Apples and oranges.

That's why Watergate got traction - there was a conspiracy to conceal underlying acts on US soil (the burglary, the CREEP slush funds, etc.) that were clearly felonies under the applicable state and federal laws.

Benghazi has a body count, but failure to protect the embassy beforehand and failure to use available force to defend it during the attack are judgment calls within the executive's sphere of authority and not, from what we know at this point, clear violations of law.

The coverup stinks to high heaven but it'd be tough to find an actionable conspiracy there unless you can pull a Bill Clinton/Scooter Libby, get one of the participants to perjure him/herself, and unless you can use that person as a John Dean to turn the rock over on the rest of the maggots it'd be of limited benefit anyway.

I am giving serious thought to researching ID fraud in a few places.

If it is moral for Juan Valdez why should I try to be better than "the best and hardest working Americans" who are you know really Mexicans?

279 This is what I think happened:
1) Seizing the pretext of the "American" video, the mob ginned up in Egypt attacks the US embassy in Cairo.
2) The embassy in Cairo, taking the mob leaders complaints about the video at face value, attempt to head off violence with their appeasement apology for free speech. This is fine with Obama until . . .
3) Meanwhile, the terrorist attack occurs in Libya. There is no mob, and no indication that the terrorist in Libya knew anything about the video pretext in Egypt or even what was occurring there at the same time.
4) Next day, Romney, not knowing about Libya yet, gets out front, criticizing the response of the embassy in Cairo.
5) Obama, who knows about Libya, criticizes Romney for his criticism of Obama's Cairo response. In an attempt to make it look like Romney is exploiting the even worse events in LIBYA, the Obama campaign and Obamamedia try to conflate events in Libya with the pretext used in Egypt.
6) Obama then engages in a campaign of spreading disinformation congress and to voters in order to cover up his culpability in the attacks and his unfair criticism of Romney. He insists that both events were "caused" by the video, something he could neither foresee nor be held accountable for.

Obama lied. He lied to congress, he lied to us. And not for national security reasons, or to protect us, nor to protect the constitution. In fact, he did the opposite, and in doing so, he is foresworn. Obama broke his oath of office for the most petty and venal of reasons. He can't stand to be wrong.

287 @241 - Clinton lied under oath.

The public perception was that it was entrapment on the part of an overzealous prosecution and only peripherally related to his fitness to be President.

Given that background it was politically foolish for the House to impeach him. In the longer term it's made it much, much harder to consider moving articles of impeachment even when there may be real crimes directly related to Presidential responsibilities.

I know we're close to that point, but simply think about all of the posters here who mention family members who voted for Obama. Those are our people, they just don't know it yet because we haven't made the sale yet.

Most of the responsible, working Americans who voted for Obama haven't felt any pain yet. They stll think they've voting for JFK-generation Democrats. Whether they figure it out in time to save the country is another matter.

Okay, here's how the left and the right differ and why the left is now in a position of power (we are still paying for the mistakes of George W. Bush and I hope everyone knows that).

Were this a GOP POTUS, even if the press only went after the POTUS "gently" (after all, the left is absolutely right when they claim the press was missing in action after 9/11 and when GWB decided to invade Iraq), there would be hecklers at every appearance of the POTUS. They would be there for the remainder of his term.
They would have been at every campaign speech given by the POTUS, every single one, their numbers growing. "What about Benghazi? Why are you silent? What about Benghazi? What are you silent? Four dead countrymen...why are you silent? Four dead countrymen....why are you silent?"
It didn't happen. Conservatives are talkers, not doers.
They seem to eschew organization. Oh, yes, the Tea Party was effective in 2008, but those gatherings beganout of a combustible need to find people of like mind. In that way, they were spontaneous.
The left does Tea Party stuff all the time that eventually their base picks up, and it then spreads to the wider party.

Clinton was guilty. I'm not remotely disputing that.

I'm not saying it was legally or ethically wrong to do so.

I'm saying it was politically wrong to do so.

Nothing you have said passes the bar for treason or high crimes and misdemeanors.

The President, in the course of carrying out his Executive duties. Wrong decision, for which people paid for with their lives, but he was carrying out his obligations.

If you want to argue that he had an obligation to protect Americans, more that worry about "collateral damage"- I'll buy that argumentation. Maybe, just maybe it works its way into a chargeable offense. But the odds are not good based on history and precedent.

Read the statute for treason and the bar a President would have to pass in able to be charged. Given what we know or can potentially divine right now- that's a pipe dream.

UnAmerican, naive, foolish, mendacious, against the interests of the United States, manipulating and unworthy of our President? Yes on all counts. Criminal? No.

304 Donilon and Clapper took it out, at request of the JEF I'll reckon

Donilon's wiki -

He worked as Executive Vice President for Law and Policy at Fannie Mae, the federally-chartered mortgage finance company, as a registered lobbyist from 1999 through 2005.[3][7]
Before his appointment to the Obama Administration, Donilon was a partner in the Washington office of the law firm O'Melveny & Myers, where he advised companies and their boards on a range of "sensitive governance, policy, legal and regulatory matters".[8]

306 Of course it's very important. We should be grateful we got "extremists" and not "militants" like Reuters would phrase it, or even "workplace violence".

It's my conviction that Susan Rice was thrown under the bus on this by IO at State or by intelligence even further back -- there is a fierce contest between ObamaLand and HillaryLand as the two camps call themselves in the Administration.

If John Kerry is put in as either Secretary of State because of this flap, or Defense Secretary, you will see lots, lots more of this "tragically misunderstood artists with unhappy childhoods" stuff about terrorists. Just look to his premier think-tank, the American Security Project, Joshua Foust, etc. and see how they handle every report that this or that explosion is terrorist in nature.
