Quotes of the Day

There are three ways that men get what they want; by planning, by working, and by praying.

Any great military operation takes careful planning, or thinking. Then you must have well-trained troops to carry it out: that's working. But between the plan and the operation there is always an unknown. That unknown spells defeat or victory, success or failure. It is the reaction of the actors to the ordeal when it actually comes. Some people call that getting the breaks; I call it God. God has His part, or margin in everything, That's where prayer comes in.

--Gen. George S. Patton in "The True Story of The Patton Prayer"
A good solution applied with vigor now is better than a perfect solution applied ten minutes later.

Jonah Goldberg: It's Always Gotterdammerung on the Right

If I had a nickel for every time the right was pronounced dead after an election, I could get me an iPhone 5 with accessories and still buy basic dental insurance for DiT. Not that I'd actually do this since it'd be wasted anyway but I could afford it.

It's always Gotterdammerung somewhere on the right. That's not to say that the conservative movement and the Republican Party are doing great. But whether fueled by left-wing glee or right-wing dread, rumors of the right's death are always exaggerated.

It's true that conservatives are more despondent than I've seen them in my lifetime. But that's in part because they've had things so good. There have been bumps, but the story of the conservative movement has been one of fairly steady growth and success.

In 1938, the American Enterprise Institute was founded to combat the ever-rising tide of statism. In 1955, National Review was launched to "stand athwart history, yelling Stop." In 1973, the Heritage Foundation was established to push back against the liberal GOP policies of the Nixon White House. In 1982, the Federalist Society was created to dissent from the doctrine of the "living constitution." In 1996, Fox News was launched to appeal to that boutique market niche - i.e., roughly half the country - that felt the media had drifted too far left. In 2009, the tea parties were ridiculed as a racist hissy fit.

At each of these junctures, conservatives were ridiculed for their fool's errands and fretted over their lost causes.

Gold vs Land

I wish they had extended this chart back through the 19th century. I remember a financial guru pointing out that 100 years ago an ounce of gold would buy you a very nice man's suit whereas today it would buy you...a very nice man's suit. Now this was 20 years ago but I suspect that eventually gold will return to this value range.

I think we'll have a real tough battle against Hillary Clinton in 2016. It'll be another history making candidate.

It will all depend on the economy. If there is a major turn around by 2015 then I think the Dems will probably control the White House for 16 years(2 Obama terms and 2 Hillary terms).

Now, an ounce of gold will not only get you a really nice suit, but a pair of nice shoes, socks, a shirt, and a belt, and perhaps a nice felt fedora, if you skimp a little on the suit.

It is safe to say losing 15+ stars would be a scandal they can't hide but to be fair and perhaps more reasonably 15 states invoking the 10th and saying "do your worst" would do just as well.

Bullshit.

In my lifetime we have *never* shrunk leviathan.

Gingrinch got the closest...but since he left Congress we now have double the government we had then.

Government now consumes almost half of the GDP, and will exceed that in the next 4 years.

So yes, conservatives have created more infrastructure to fight the left. Great. But we've failed politically and we've failed culturally.

Times are bad. Very bad.

No way. Hillary is running. 2016 will be the last election she can run.

Remember, Hillary actually beat Obama in 2008 in the popular vote. She just lost in primary delegates. Obama also got whipped on in a few state primaries in 2012. He isn't like by a lot of the Dem party. They just couldn't bring themselves to vote Romney.

Hillary will run in 2016 and she will win the primary. The RNC should be planning how to run against her now.

64 I'm thinking Texas, if only to help with the Secession movement there. I never seriously gave it thought before, but if the country is truly going to burn, I think secession may not only be possible but imminent, and it'll likely be Texas that pulls the trigger and says, fuck this shit.

So I've been researching this, and the best scenario is to see a state that has the best chance of surviving a secession from the union, in which case it would cause a domino effect that will encourage other states to secede as well and joining that state to form a new union.

I for one would welcome our new Texan overlords.

But the "stay at home" or "vote my conscience" recalcitrants, (after Morris and Rove told us it was going to be a landslide) and the Free Shit Army, and idiotic "Big Bird, Binders, Birth Control, Bullshitters, Boo-Boo, Bread and Circus, Daily Show/Colbert Believers" give us the "gift" of totalitarianism that we head for...Whoo hoo!

85 Chantilly, eh? Well, that's pretty much outer suburbia so you get a lot of commuters into DC. But if you buy in the Chantilly/Centreville/Manassas/Reston/Herndon/Ashburn area or the eastern parts of Loudoun County you'll be fine commute-wise. You'll enjoy Dulles airspace, but you'll have Udvar-Hazy (aka. the Air and Space Museum at Dulles) nearby and if you go after 4 p.m. the $15 parking fee is waived so it's completely free.

You could go as far out as Front Royal or Winchester depending on how close you want to be to your job, but if it's the regular 9-5 slog I'd live closer. You could also live closer to DC and reverse commute but home prices go up the closer you get to DC and the market is more competitive. If you value things like big yards, you need either the far-flung suburbs or long-established neighborhoods in the immediate DC area that have bigger acreage (and bigger prices).

You'll get a mix of Democrats and Republicans.

Depending on where in CA you're coming from you may get some sticker shock on the home prices but the housing market did suffer more as you get further from DC.

But if you like wine the Virginia wine industry is growing by leaps and bounds and there are plenty of places to visit.

To everyone else: Sorry for the essay.

87 54 JAM,

I'm no leader I'm a basketcase. I just know history and economics a bit. I aim to find someone who makes some sense on the matter I guess and try to protect as many as I can from these Ivy Legaue know it alls wrecking our national economy over and over and over. I will probably try to calm down enough not to sound insane in person and volunteer as well as donate.

This is the first race I couldn't help since I was 16. I'm humbled you think I'm a leader but in all honesty I once thought I was great shakes but in my brief time in the army compared to some I met many finer men. My heart is breaking my love of country and wanting to serve her got me out of poverty I am not racist and I am not heartless and I am subjected in a nondirect calumny by the media that aimed in another direction would honestly be called blood libel.

I had hoped so hard to beat the current occupant, and I lost hell maybe we all lost.

I'm already Galt to a degree I've earned more, and it seems to me it will burn I just advocate expending what effort we can preparing and protecting the red.

Best case scenario is we are in a cold civil war that stays cold and I'm really tired of posting on the worst case tonight.

I'd run for office but unlike the many fine folk who do not run because they have nothing to find but know the media will try I have plenty to find and am crazy enough to get in their face about it.

Mr. Sven have you ever had an affair?

"Why yes yes I have I had a girlfriend while the wife and I were separated and we three may or may not have woken up in one bed sticky confused and hung over from Gin where do you spend your evenings Ms. Crowley?'

Yeah it'd work out really well.

Again thanks for the kind words, but I'm just another indian not a chief.

No if you stumble run red and run to texas if you need quick gain because that is the boom area of the three.

She told me she made the mistake of wearing blue last wednesday, and some older lady from IT walked up to her desk smiling and asked if there was any particular reason she was wearing blue. She curtly told her no, and she walked away back to her desk.

Good luck feeding themselves with roof gardens and fair-trade batshit coffee.

California's the only blue state with major food production, or should I say that *had* major food production but is trying their damndest to get rid of it.

And if there's a split, the LA-SF corridor will go blue, but most of the state will peel off and go red. Including most of the food production.

I mean, if you're going to break up the country, why respect state lines?

Now that Obama has won reelection, he doesn’t need to bother with pretending to care about the deficit, the military, or even America. With his cult of personality triumphant a second time, this modern-day Pharaoh does not seem content to engage the people to just working on those jobless “shovel ready jobs.”

Not just content with driving the United States forward off a fiscal cliff, Obama is set to plague the few successful small businesses left with a torrent of regulations. Half white, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
Wrinkled lip, and sneer of failed command,
Told to its art student those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked, the dog upon which he fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Obamandias, SCoaMF of SCoaMFs:
Look on my works, Tea Party, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of the United States, boundless and bare
Lone and level golf greens stretch far away.

Usually rendered in English as "behind every great fortune lies a great crime."

I can do one better, because I can identify the nature of the crime in nearly every instance -- the co-option of the state.

Small and medium fortunes are won one sale at a time -- which must have some perceived value by the purchaser or the sale would not occur....but if the state is involved then you must transact whether or not it pleases you to do so.

My mom's neighborhood in Denver was up in arms about a proposed Walmart as part of a redevelopment of CU's medical center complex, which has sat vacant for a decade now. They protested and protested and had community meetings and bitched to the city council and in general made it so unpleasant that Walmart pulled out. Everyone cheered and patted themselves on the back. And, in the meantime there are dozens of vacant buildings spanning a several block area that remain a blight on the neighborhood. And will for a long time because the developer flat out said that no other major big box chain wanted to go in the space. But, that's OK, vacant buildings which attract the homeless and drug users and partying kids are waaaaaay better then a Walmart according to the smug liberals in the neighborhood (and yes, sadly, my family feels that way to)

Here's the irony of having a government job, to do the same thing that I do now in the private sector would only net me maybe a third of what I currently make, which is pretty much minimum wage, so I'm trapped until I can find a new career. Government job basically made me unemployable and left without any tenable work skills. Yay for me.

Although I have done marketing as a side job so I'm using that as a resume builder to see if I can land a marketing job that will pay enough to help me support my family.

Although, in yet more irony, the thought of working in the private sector with Barky O Fuckhole at the helm another 4 years is terrifying, and my current job is pretty secure. I could basically commit arson and the worst they would do to me is to promote me (we promote our workers as a form of punishment, because it's the only way to get rid of them)

Posted by: sven10077 at November 15, 2012 10:41 PM

I don't remember the source offhand, but I read somewhere that the replacement rate for whites in the U.S. is not a nice little bell curve, but two concentrations: Liberals in blue states who have zero to one (sometimes two) kids, and conservatives in red states that have many.

Throw in low birth rates for non-immigrant minorities (number of children quickly drops for each additional generation here), and any hick-up in high-babymaking immigrants will doom the left in the long run (already, Mexico's fertility rate has dropped like a rock, and many Latin American countries are below the replacement).

This might explain why Romney actually won both the youth and women's vote within the white demographic.

Our best hope it to keep the fire burning...

Was it the scandal about the person who didn't even live in DC but ran for mayor anyway and claimed that the now-mayor (Vincent Gray) paid him under the table to run? His job was to bash the incumbent, which he did with glee, and Gray won the Dem primary. In DC, that's pretty much the general election. Gray tried to put him in a government job but that was a debacle in itself.

Or was it his chief of staff hiring her son for a city government position he wasn't qualified for? Yep, I can't keep them all straight.

And Gray looks like a vampire.

They will stand up for ObamaCare even though it's not really what they want. I think we have to have a similar frame of mind with our candidates but I just don't see it happening. Sorry to hear that. I think it's good policy to never pay any money for little apps like that. You can always revert to just using your regular browser search (though that takes a few clicks to get, usually) and searching for a number close to the last - or you can search your screenname and do "previous" to get to the text entry at the bottom.

That said, any web designer with long pages and half a brain puts a "bottom" button in at the top of the page just to help out people on tablets and phones where scrolling is insanely awful. That would take all of two seconds ... don't expect to see it here any time soon.

Austin can go fuck themselves though. That fucked up city (sans the capital building) reminded me way too much of Long Island.

314 Quisling lives.

I lived in Norway from 1978 to 1981. Here are some facts about the country most people don't know.

1. Norway banned kosher slaughter over a century ago.

2. More Norwegians fought for the Nazis than the Allies in World War II. The last of the Nazis killed by the Russians in the Reich Chancellery in Berlin were Norwegians.

3. The entire Norwegian social safety net depends on income from the petroleum industry. While they lecture the rest of us on renewable energy, they make all their money on oil.

4. Norway's carbon output doubled after it signed the Kyoto Treaty.

5. The children murdered on the island by Anders Brevik were being trained to break the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza and disrupt Israeli border patrols. Many of the kids thought Brevik was pretending to be an Israeli soldier, so they approached him and tried to yell at him to put down his gun. He shot them dead.

6. Norway violates international whaling bans with impunity.

I really hated life in Norway. The countryside is beautiful and the food is great, but the people were insufferable, intolerant, racist, and smug. They import tons of immigrants but don't let them assimilate.

Like almost all leftists, they only pay lip service to their ideals but don't actually live them.

316 I'm enjoying an ice old beer brewed by a friend, it's very good. I'm watching a very mediocre NFL game on my new 60" Sony HDTV, sprawled in front of a roaring fire.

The TV? Yea that was cool. A house 5 down from mine had an estate sale for the last 2 weekends. Monday there was a dumpster outside, everything that didn't sell was in it, so I went dumpster diving. I grabbed a file cabinet that had been overpriced, and on top of the pile was the TV. It's 8 years old, about the last of the LCD projection models before flat panel TVs hit. It wasn't shattered, looked like it had just been placed on top of the dumpster rather than thrown. I figured I'd take a chance and drug it out. Took it home, plugged it in. No picture, but the lamp light was lit. A new one cost $26, so I gambled and ordered it. Installed it yesterday, and the TV works perfectly. Score!

BTW, a 60" TV is freaking HUGE. A nice bonus after a crushing week. I'm tossing the old mercury filled lamp in the trash with malice aforthought. Fuck you EPA.

Not going to disagree, but GOP candidates need a little voice in their head to tell them to shut the fuck up before you say something stupid. Some of them don't understand that just because the questioner isn't asking another question, you don't need to keep talking, and that is where they make their mistakes.

Bush II was good about just answering the question and then stopping. He didn't feel he needed to go on and on. He had a straightforward answer, then he shut up. He made them ask more questions, and he didn't volunteer too much info.

349 Ok, I'm about to propose something outrageously politically incorrect. For the sake of Republican political potency we should be encouraging abortions, not outlawing them.

Think about it, who are the vast majority of individuals getting abortions? Rich, single white women and poor, single brown and black women. We know how single women and minorities vote so we can safely assume how their progeny would vote.

I shudder to think about how badly we would be losing today if Roe hadn't legalized abortion in the '70s. The Democrat base would be literally millions stronger. The Democrats don't realize it because they're too busy pandering and being demagogic on abortion but their committing demographic suicide. They're cratering their own future base. I say let them have at it. Cruel, but effective.

359 330 SDavis,

AN election?

Okay.

God bless you're both perhaps harder than me I am fairly certain I am as ready to honor my "cherished common heritage" with Nancy Pelosi as seriously as she takes it.

YMMV I won't mock you because my heart is not in it.

The nation is done, they left it in either 2001 or 1968.

One fight is my loss, the other I was -4 years old.

When will you accept that there are domestic enemies afoot who hold NO LOYALTY to that document?

There are answers in an oath likely we three all swore about what that means.

NOBODY WILL SUPPORT THE ANSWER.

We cannot even get enough unity to fight the damned recount races on a national scale in the tight races he "won" by less than 425,000 votes.

Look at the Presidency, THAT is not the office George W Bush held and he was not allowed the same powers.

No I am not pushing to leave but I will be ready God willing if/when it happens in our concentration and our unity they will blink.

The penny packets in the blue are not enough, and I no longer trust the citizens to pay loyalty to the founding as whole.

I plan to have the resources in place to help shield those in need from the wreck if able.

That man has no intention of fostering the best most robust economy he can, he is a shithead Chicago hustler writ large who wants total control of a pie and would rather a small pie with 100% than a huge pie with 10%.

No salute, I was sure I'd feel the same tugging to stay in Ohio but Ohio was the damned tipping point.

Obama stole 20-60,000 Ohioans pensions and nobody cares there or at best "not enough" he is wrecking coal but the Cleveland gang and ObamaFO lady won b/c too many sat out.

Nope better to keep the red red so liberty has at a minimum a biordcage of memory.

Good luck.

Agreed, but it's tough to relocate, especially since I need to push my parents into getting out of here too. It's just a question of going somewhere with a low cost of living, temperate climate and surrounded by bitter gun owners clinging to their religion who understand that we New Yorkers are not Yankee liberals but conservative refugees looking for a new home.

However we can. By getting involved locally. By puting pressure as best we are able on our Reps and Sens, both state and national. Hell, run for office ourselves. Donate to this trying to spread the message of conservatism. Make your own Internet ads/short films and put them on Facebook or YouTube.

It is and undoubtedly will be, hard. We can either shrink from the burden and hide in our caves, or stand and fight for these things we claim to believe.

371 @314 non-Norwegian... what you never understood since you're not Norwegian is that Oslo folk are more Swedish than Norwegian, that the main element on Breivik's island was adult-minor sex (which is a Commie thing, and not a Norwegian thing), that there is a huge Norwegian thing for exogeny (for example, look at the distribution in Turkey, for example, of subclades of y-DNA Haplogroup I1), that Norsemen seeded the nurseries of Modernity, and in more than a few cases, whelped Modernity unaided.
If you would hope for a glimpse of the Norwegian character, look to the events of Feb. 20, 1944, on Tinnsjø, when Norwegian Resistance saved the world from a Nazi A-bomb.

Nice summary.

Norwegian girls were pretty and extremely easy to get in bed; the shag tobacco for rolling your own cigarettes tasted great; and the boiled sausages called pølser were delicious on steamed buns with sweet mustard.

Still, I hated living there. So did every single Norwegian I met. At least that's what they said when they were drunk, which was most of the time.

My third night in Stavanger, I met a bunch of kids in front of a hotel, and a giant, drunk old man asked us to help him up the stairs. We did, and when we let go of his arms, he toppled forward face first into the corner formed by the two sheets of thick glass serving as the walls of the lobby. Imagine a big glass "V"; he fell into the open end of it, his nose right in the apex.

As he slid down into a horizontal position, his cheeks dragged on the two sheets of glass. His face made a squeaking sound on the glass, like when you clean a window. It lasted about eight seconds until he was completely supine on his belly.

That was my introduction to life in Norway.

If you think things are really so bad now that we have no hope, go read the Declaration of Independence, and take a gander at he abuses the colonies had to endure before they said "Enough!"

Unlike those guys, we have a system of government that allows us to own our own destiny.

The path ahead is dark and difficult, and we will not win tomorrow or the day after, but our grandchildren and their children demand that we fight, so that maybe they can enjoy something like what we grew up with.

437 @314 non-Norwegian... what you never understood since you're not Norwegian is...

None of that has anything to do with what I said. I quoted facts.

And I still hated living in Norway.

The government was so intrusive that it censored foreign films, cutting out most scenes of violence. The censorship was so insane that sometimes the movie would end up making no sense whatsoever.

In Halloween, for example, they cut out the choking scene of the girl in the car, so she was suddenly dead for no reason. When Dr. Loomis shot Michael Myers at the end, the Norwegian censors cut out all the shots except for one, so Loomis appeared to have loaded his pistol with only one bullet. He fired once and then the gun clicked on empty chambers.

Pious, absurd stupidity and a total lack of respect for art and human intelligence.

And don't get me started on the horrific, Third World standard of health care in Norway and the two-tiered system of bent doctors and black-market medical treatments available on a cash-only basis. Everybody broke the law, so why have the law? Why have a nationalized health-care system that everyone knows doesn't work?

To prove to the world how advanced they are, of course. Window dressing. Lip service. Play acting. Pretending.

486 All of you damning socons can go fuck yourselves. You can't have fiscal conservatism without social conservatism.

The fundamental thrust of social conservatism is to protect the rituals and traditions that make up society. They've been accumulated over hundreds or thousands of years of trial and error about what works best for a society as a whole. Social pressure to conform and to follow the rules is about convincing people to take actions that benefit themselves and society in the long run, even if they don't realize it at the time.

You can't have a free society that populated by the Sandra Flukes of the world: filthy whores who'll fuck anything with a pulse and whose highest goal is their own pleasure. Any society based around that will collapse at the arrival of the first man who promises to take care of them. Once pleasure becomes the highest good in life, it's all that matters.

514 Why all the bullshit is bullshit, and what should be said and done --

pronouncement: "gotta run a ....." // bullshit, gotta run a person. the failure is not the message, the failure is the message is so badly packaged that not enough people will actually listen to the message.

pronouncement: "the message ....." // bullshit, there is no perfect message. it is about the personality, not the message. different personalities could sell lots of different messages, if they could sell any message at all. the message has to match the personality, and the personality has to match the message.

pronouncement: "the way you win is .... blah, blah, what worked before in the year 19___." // bullshit, what worked for that person, worked for that person -- because it seemed genuine to enough people. Reagan was an optimist, but that will never help someone else if their optimism seems contrived or phony to too many voters. Besides being optimistic at the wrong time makes people look like they are insane.

pronouncement: "people want ..." // bullshit, most people don't have the slightest damn clue what they want. They have to be told what they want, and then told it was all their idea in the first place.

pronouncement: "we're screwed ...." // Actually, that is true, but not in the way people are claiming. The other side is just as screwed, they just have not caught on yet. Ask yourself, would you really change places with that batch of fuckheads? Really? They have power, but they have no chance, and they have no soul. Fuck them. Unless they destroy the planet first we will eventually kick their sorry asses.

pronouncement: "we're screwed, we will never .... " // -- hard to say, but probably bullshit. the other side sucks so bad that we just need to get our shit together and they will have nothing.

pronouncement: "the only way ....." // bullshit. self explanatory.

BTW, I know what will work, but none of you will believe me, and I bet 50% +1 of you are not really interested anyway -- not ready yet.

522 The fundamental thrust of social conservatism is to protect the rituals and traditions that make up society.

Yup. I keep trying to get my grown chilluns to get this. I raised them with religion, and they've eschewed it to be cool. I try and try to tell them, it's not some arbitrary set of rules imposed by old people who don't want you to have any fun! It works! Every single one of the Ten Commandments makes sense, and makes the whole thing work, whether you're religious or not.

Aaaaand at each juncture cited, the governance of the nation had already ratcheted further left. Only in a few cases, mostly at the state level, has governance moved rightward and stayed there since March 1933 (if not October 1929).

Never been, but that was the gist of it.
Most Minnesotans will swear by walleye. And sneer at the FIBs (Flippin' Illinois Bastids) who will make a 600+ mile round trip to fish for yellow perch. The whitefish, now, is something else entirely. I am an abject piscivore. I eat fish candy for breakfast. And I have never had whitefish that was at all "boardy" or stiff, or anything but moist and succulent. It is really yummy!

We do a "theme" tailgate. Pig for the Redskins; T-bones for the hated Cowboys; blackened chix for ATL; shrimps and gumbofor NO; etc.
-
We hosted the AFC Chargers and talapia fish tacos were "in order".
-
But my fave was SF in 2007 (when we were all going to be rich "house-flippers") and we did filets and dungenees crabs. Good times.
-
I remember doing NY strips with "compound" butter (and Gorgonzola), on any given Tuesday. Regrettably, those days are gone. Oh well. It was extravagant. But fun while it lasted. I'm not sure if I'll see those days again...

Sucker, oops, sorry. I mean, great!!

the gop message is lost because it is too sterile, lifeless, and skew to too many people's point of view. There are some very simple ways to overcome these problems. (Generally stolen from Hans Bleiker). They are:

Sell the problem, not the solution (hard for gop cuz they like to think about how smart they are and are real proud of their solutions. unfortunately, a sure loser every time. Sell the problem, then sell the problem, then sell the problem.)

Can all the damn nerdy stats. Anecdotes have power -- Romney should have come up with about 50 U.S. citizens that have a specific problem and told the story of those people over and over and over. Only after telling the story do you add, "and there are another 27 million Americans who have exactly the same problem as Mrs. Jones."

Never, ever, ever, allow the other side to give off the aura of expertise. Constantly sell the problem, and constantly take them down a peg.

There's more. Ever heard of Hans Bleiker?

607 Congressman “Honest” Abe Goldman compromised their mission. His affair with a reporter, Cassandra Blake or the name her parents gave her, Irina Slavina, lead to the leak of agent Bolin’s name. In true Russian Mob fashion, they didn’t go after Agent Bolin. They killed his parents. One month later after an investigation, Agent Bolin returned the favor. Sitting on a park bench, disguised, Agent Bolin emptied a .45 into Congressman Goldman. He almost escaped except for a beat Cop that got off a lucky shot shattering his femur while Bolin was running away. Agent Bolin could have killed the cop but he wouldn’t shoot an innocent man. By the time T returned from a black op in Iraq, Agent Bolin had pleaded guilty and the trial was all but over. The sentence was life in Leavenworth.
T worked every angle she could think of to get him out, including putting a team together to break him out. It wasn’t to be because Brandon didn’t want it. He was a lawman, he broke the law and that was that. She saw him one last time during a visitor’s day at Leavenworth. He asked two things of her. Find out who killed his parents and let justice be done. Finally, never return to visit, forget about him. The first she had already planned on but the second? That would be much harder. She wrote letters and went back to the prison to visit. He wouldn’t see her nor did he read any of her letters.
“Let justice be done,” Brandon had told her, and it was. The man that gave the order to have Brandon’s parents murdered spent his last hours with T’s power tools and a blowtorch. Cassandra Blake? T was sure to do a major mind fuck on her. Posing as a Hollywood agent scouting for a sitcom actress to play a reporter, T played on every vapid narcissistic cell in her body. By the time T was finished with her, Miss Blake did get to play a role. The role of a steaming pile of Alligator shit on a riverbank in the everglades. It was an Emmy award caliber performance.

====tell stories that make the small government,
constitutionally limited government point. --- gotta do this part really slowly ---

Here's how I would have started: (Romney speaking)
"Agnes Jones and her husband Ron lived and worked in ____, __ for the past 45 years. They worked hard and saved their money so they would not have to deplete the earnings of their children, neighbors, or you. They had a plan to avoid drawing social security even if they earned it and paid into it for a lifetime. Trouble is, the preznit has screwed the economy up so bad that the fed will have to hold interest rates near zero for a long time. In the meantime, the Jones' are being bled out. Their savings should be paying $2200 /month. Instead they pay $101 /mo. They simply can't live on $101 /mo so they are spending their savings way too fast. Meanwhile the fed is printing money so fast that inflation is a guarantee, so when interest rates do go up, and they will, the Jones will not have the savings needed to keep up with inflation. It is literally the worst of both worlds. There are _____,000 Americans with a story very, very similar to the Jones. Maybe that is you. If you want to help the Jones' or yourself, you have to vote against this incompetent gov't."

Sell the problem, use only anecdotes. Make it very personal and very real. Always attack and never let up.

50 stories like this one. The student who will never be able to carry the debt and all the rest that has been handed to them. The 48 yo woman supporting kids and parents. etc. etc. etc.

665 Sure, "the right" may never actually die, but it's heading toward permanent minority status. Oh, great, we have a movement that can consistently capture 40% of the vote.

How much longer do we intend on insisting this a "center-right country" when people keep voting for more and more government services?

And, again, with respect toward Dr. Krauthammer and others who believe "Hispanics are a natural conservative constituency," I invite you to look at Latin America and observe the governments they elect for themselves.

685 I have thought long and hard about where to live in the coming days. Urban vs. rural. Urban, I have family and friends. Rural, none of those. Urban, I have resources at the present. Rural, have to travel to resources, maybe an hour or more. Urban, I have a redoubt that I can cover with some help from family and friends. Rural, I am out there on my own, and I can't cover but one front at a time. If peace is going to be hard to find, there will be no where to run.
It is a puzzlement.

687 Navybrat, consider the resource competition in the urban area. My advice, plan to grab those friends and family, and run. A few practice runs are in order, called camping trips etc.

Posted by: Jean at November 16, 2012 03:21 AM (qjHIb)

688 navyb-
I am sorry for your puzzle.
-
I am lucky that we have the redoubt. I hope and pray that it does not get that ugly. But, being a reluctant pragmatist, I am preparing for my idea of WorstCaseScenario -SHtF. Converting to hand pump on the well, and a wood-burning vehicle (it's really not that difficult on a "naturally aspirated" carbuerated engine - think pre-fuel-injected '78 pick-um-up truck), and a still. Year 'round garden, and rabbits in their hutch, and bees in their box-hive, and goats in teh yard. -
Friends and family. Birds on the wing. Deer in the woods. Fish in the stream and pond. We'll barter. A country boy will survive. Life goes on. God willing.

Having gone through the hurricane and a week of everything being shut off in the most urban neighborhood in America I am comfortable assuring you urban is the wrong place to be for the long run.

You may be able to shelter in place during an attack but as soon as you are able to move to a rural environment in which you have friends you will be safer. In the long run for nearly any scenario rural is the way to go.

Living in an urban environment is especially dangerous because of the leadership.

how urban are you? high rise? low rise?

Posted by: yankeefifth at November 16, 2012 03:46 AM (Z9EHQ)

692 I bought a piece of farmland years ago, I farm it by leasing most if it to farmers who know what they are doing. While not quite ready for end times, it will be better then suburbia. We drag the kids out there about once a month.

Well has solar backup for low volume, and an inefficient hand backup of that.

Has enough firewood for a week or two. Room for more. Chicken coop needs work and chickens. Large garden does well, need to compost more. Stored food for maybe 3 weeks.

Lines of fire, ops, and fighting positions are walked and marked. Need some shovel work.

I am a "sad clown". I never thought I would feel this way. I am a stranger in a strange land. I am disgusted at a"majority" of my shared citizenry. Is there any current responsibility? I weep for the ideal of the Republic. Dark days currently. But, if there is any rectitude possible, ours is the right "ideal".
But, you know, the FF's (Founding Fathers) had a much tougher "row to how". Don't lose your optimism. Cling to what is real and immediate. Friends, family, and all that is good in "the everyday". We have an uphill climb, but it is not unsurmountable. Be patient. Truth and justice will prevail. Ours is the good fight.
-
We may not see the fruit in our lifetimes, but humanity certainlywill. Our argument for "God-given" inalienable, self-evident, is incontrivertable. Is it not? Keep the faith. Be princepled. Be loving and gracious. We still live in the best era. Be pugnacious and rebellious when you need to.
-
I even cried a little after the election. But, crying time is over. Now we have to prepare for what's next. Remember to pray and be thankfull.
It will be OK.

700 Other than Petraeus's upcoming testimony being "different than what he initially said," Starr's source also reported that Petraeus will tell Congress that at first there were at least 20 different intelligence reports floating around that said the video was responsible for the attack, and that over time, those reports were "slowly disproved."
Petraeus also told this source he believed the CIA talking points given to Susan Rice came from within the White House or Administration.

Petraeus is gonna say he knew it was terrorism right away, and that the blame the video idea came from the white house and not the CIA.

I will believe it when I hear it

Even if he does change his story, he won't say whose idea it was to blame the video

Posted by: Thunderb at November 16, 2012 06:20 AM (Dnbau)

701 According to the official, Petraeus says the stream of intelligence from multiple sources, including video at the scene, indicated the group was behind the attack.
But a separate stream of intelligence also emerged at the same time indicating the violence at the consulate was inspired by protests in Egypt over an ostensibly anti-Islam film that was privately produced in the United States. The movie, "Innocence of Muslims," portrayed the Prophet Mohammed as a womanizing buffoon.
There were 20 intelligence reports that indicated that anger of the film may be to blame, the official said.
The CIA eventually disproved those reports, but not before Petraeus' initial briefing to Congress the day after the attack where he discussed who might be behind the attack and what prompted it. During that briefing he raised Ansar al Sharia's possible connection as well as outrage over the film, the official said.
Petraeus' aim in testifying, according to the official, is to clear up "a lot of misrepresentations of what he told Congress initially."
The former CIA director also is expected to tell the congressional committees that he did develop unclassified talking points in the days after the attack but had had no direct involvement in developing the ones used by Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
