Stocks Down Again; Europe Falls Into Recession
People like to make excuses for Obama -- they love doing that, and they've gotten good at it -- and one I'm very tired of the "Europe is in recession, so American can't crawl out of its own" excuse.
If America were leading the world economy, chugging along like a magnificent locomotive, we'd pull Europe out of recession, and everyone else besides. But instead we have our hopes pinned on Europe to grow the world economy for us, so we can follow in its wake? How about instead of "Obama can be excused for the poor American economy, because Europe is dragging us down" we say "Obama's failure to ignite the American economy, indeed, his determination to dampen it, is causing Europe and the world to fall into a global recession"? Nah. Can't say that. Lightworker. Doin' his best. Yet another day of declines, though prices didn't end as low as they were earlier. So expect a big fall tomorrow, as yet another tiny bubble of unfounded optimism gets burst. And Europe is now officially in recession. And our own economy is so weak it'll most likely follow suit.The euro zone debt crisis dragged the bloc into its second recession since 2009 in the third quarter despite modest growth in Germany and France, data showed on Thursday. The French and German economies both managed 0.2 percent growth in the July-to-September period but their resilience could not save the 17-nation bloc from contraction as the likes of The Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Austria shrank. Economic output in the euro zone fell 0.1 percent in the quarter, following a 0.2 percent drop in the second quarter. Those two quarters of contraction put the euro zone's 9.4 trillion euro ($12 trillion) economy back into recession, although Italy and Spain have been contracting for a year already and Greece is suffering an outright depression.Tampons are still legal though. We really dodged a bullet on that.

When I try to post story links to Facebook the tone of the links change.
Let me illustrate.
There is a story from CNBC that I am trying to post.
The body of the page contains the headline.
"Dow Posts 4-Day Decline; Apple Drops 2%"
I usually post stories to Facebook to try sway and tweak my more liberal friends.
But when I post the story to Facebook it morphs to the following.
"Stocks open flat after mixed economic data"
I
have been noticing this a lot lately where I see a story that could
drive a point home that when I post it the story is changed subtly or
substantially to change the tone and tenor of the story.
I am going to start looking at the source code of the web pages to see why facebook is linking it this way.
Because the body of the story I'm trying to post does not contain the muted parts that are being posted.
Very curious.

I don't think it'll be nukes. Or at least not more than a couple of battlefield nukes. I think it'll be a long, protracted series of proxy wars, coupled with a lot of "civil unrest" at home. The civil unrest will get really ugly when there's no money to pay the troops (or when money has gotten so inflated that their pay is essentially worthless.)

As I've said before:
The Obama victory can be likened to the victory by Francois Hollande in France, the Socialist candidate
Hollande won against a backdrop of the European economy stagnating and France failing to enact harsh but necessary reforms. Hollande instead went in the other direction and doubled down on failing Francosocialism.
Result? The French economy is completely tanking. His popularity has fallen through the floor, and so has that of his party.
Learn the lesson contained herein. Obama is retracing the same trajectory. To the letter. If he can be made to own the failure of the economy next year, it will cripple the rest of his Presidency.
Obama doesn't like being held to account. He doesn't like to work. He doesn't like details. DRAG HIM DOWN INTO THE MIRE. Force him to get to grips with the circumstances. He will back off and retreat to the golf course.
The odds are excellent that Obama will leave office with the worst economic record of any modern President, ever. Eclipsing the previous records of Jimmy Carter and Lyndon Baines Bush.

Your right about Hollande, and people do notice pocketbook issues. But this a long time coming, I think people are at the point of self preservation, I think they know it's wrong but everyone is looking out for number 1. We could have made the right decision 4 years ago but we didn't, and now we will pay for it. We could have cut spending, reformed entitlements, healthcare, and military spending, cut regulations not just at the national level but at the state level where most of the stupid regulations are made, we could have chosen a pro long term growth model but we didn't, we went for the quick fix the least amount of pain. We could have thrown the country into a pretty bad spot but with a considerably better outlook, unemployment would have been bad (it already was bad), but we would have found ways to grow, instead here we are circling the drain.

The big thing would be that Louisiana controls the mouth of the Mississippi, which fucks up the supply chain for the rest of the country if they go. The additional resources in food production and petroleum is a bonus.

In a European system, you don't need 50%, because of multiple parties. There are pretty big swings in party popularity year to year, many disband and reform relatively quickly. They could easily form a coalition with another anti-austerity group, the communists. You think that sounds crazy, but considering what they are fighting don't be shocked if they join forces.

I never got the chance to vote in the primaries for Romney; that was a settled issue by the time the vote got here.
I was hoping that a certain rogue Alaskan conservative might get into the race.
Sadly, she was dissuaded by heavy pressure from the Beltway Buttmunch party establishment.
The establishment figures said that if the Alaskan ran, her real views and personal character would be horribly caricatured and distorted by the media to the point where victory in the general election would be impossible.
Well! I'm certainly glad we passed on that risky bet, and went with the safe choice which insulated us from those consequences. Thank you, party establishment, for your prudent wisdom.

The House could pass a bill that...
1. Continues the Bush tax cuts for everyone permanently
2. Allows BUT DOES NOT REQUIRE *the president* to temporarily raise taxes up to a certain maximum for those making over $200K and above
3. The President could not raise taxes until February, putting distance between the passage of the bill and the president's action--more clearly placing the onus on him. The President would have a 3-month window in which to raise taxes. After that he would have missed his chance.
4. The taxes raised by the President would expire on a date certain (for example, on March 1, 2016)
5. Spending cuts would also be included in the bill.
Congressional Republicans could say...
* We did not raise taxes. We passed permanent tax cuts.
* The President raised taxes.
* We prepared the nation to be on sound footing again once this president's disastrous second term is over.

Christie did not invite Mitt to NJ to survey the damaged areas. In fact, when he was asked at press conference if Gov. Romney would be coming, he bluntly and belligerently exclaimed that "I don't care, this is not the time for politics!".
He couldn't find a graceful way to pass the ball back to Mitt, he basically invalidated any help that Romney could have or did offer.

She was rushed to a hospital as investigators found heroin at the scene and recovered marijuana and glassine envelopes after obtaining a search warrant.
She was charged with misdemeanor possession of heroin, misdemeanor marijuana possession, criminally using drug paraphernalia, police said.
Grant was booked at the Kirkland police station on misdemeanor drug posession and released back to Hamilton.

Reagan faced:
1) No stimulus
2) Fed rates at 15%
3) Oil crisis
4) Double digit inflation
5) UE moving above 10%
And yet, in JUST TWO YEARS, all these problems had been tamed and what followed was the longest period of consecutive GDP growth since those numbers were recorded. We added an ENTIRE West Germany to the US economy (at a time when WG was the world's 3rd largest economy). The economy was rocking.
Obama had the following help:
1) Fed rate at 0%
2) No inflation
3) No oil crisis
4) $6T in new debt
5) $1T in stimulus
6) shit tons of tax cuts/payroll taxes, cash for clunkers, whatever
AND WITH ALL THAT, this stuttering clusterfuck of a miserable failure still can't put the economy on the right track. And you wonder why!

Obama didn't "inherit" a terrible economy, he helped to create it, by pushing all those stupid government policies to "expand" home ownership by forcing banks to give mortgage loans to unqualified minority borrowers, and by having FM/FM buy up millions of those bad mortgages.
Romney had many chances to educate low-information voters about Obama's role, but he never did.

When civil societies hit hard times, they fall to their level of their highest communal institution. In Iraq, we saw that there was nothing between the State and the Mosque, so when the State fell, people sorted themselves by ethnic / religious status, and gravitated towards their religious leaders. A live-and-let live mechanism that served a free people quite well. We don't see ourselves as tribal or ethnic Americans, just Americans, and find hyphenated Americans somehow odd.
Once the Constitution goes, we're going to find ourselves adrift in a nation where the opposition finds factionalism all too easy. They will have the advantage organizationally over pockets of disparate preppers who intend to get by on their own pluck and resolve. That's the real consideration of the 'Let It Burn' phase. The most organized will have the advantage. Whether the burn ends in tyranny or rejuvenation will depend on how all parties weather impact with the crash, and what their goals will be going forward.
Prepping is necessary, but survival plans without a political plan just means you'll be better fed than average as you're marched into a reeducation camp.
