1 Good Morning Morons. Today is Thursday, November 15, 2012. On this day in 1777 the Continental Congress approved the articles of confederation. History has shown that we would have been better off keeping them after perhaps strengthening them a small bit.

5 CEO of company involved with the fatal meningitis outbreaks takes the fifth in House hearings. I don’t think this is meaningful in this kind of hearing. The House is not a good place to “investigate” this kind of shit. Investigation of these kinds of things needs to be done as a root cause analysis by trained investigators who are independent of all politics and the company. I am sure he took the fifth not to protect himself, but to protect the company from the hoard of lawyers that have already descended. Who BTW, have no interest in finding the real cause either.

7 Brit Met office report shows that Global Warming stopped 16 years ago. One more nail in the coffin of the AGW scam. Contrary to the JEF’s outright lies yesterday there is no warming. In fact the experts who do the OFA are predicting a possible ice age. But never fear, CA is now implementing their own cap and trade. Otherwise known as a massive tax, which is what the AGW scam was all about in the US. Notice this is a Brit paper. It will never show up in any MFM outlet here in the US.

Best-selling author Deborah Crombie's deeply atmospheric and twisting mystery is filled with deadly secrets, salacious lies, and unexpected betrayals. When a woman's body is found, Scotland Yard Superintendent Duncan Kincaid finds himself heading a complicated investigation, for the victim was a high-ranking detective who had many admirers, and many enemies.

Let's rephrase that a bit.

Because conservatives couldn't bring themselves to vote for a liberal Republican who in their opinion wasn't going to be much different than the current occupant.

How many times did Romney agree with something Obama said he would do or was already doing (or claimed he was doing)?

Yeah. More than one is too many.

Don't anyone go psycho on me though because I understand why they stayed home. I dragged myself to the polls first thing and voted for him because he was a teensy bit better than what we've got now (and to stick it to the MSM).

24 Hello, again, ‘rons and ‘ronettes. Another day back on the chain gang.

Today is the birthday of Yaphet Kotto (Kananga / Mr. Big in Live And Let Die)* as well as that of Lewis Stone, kindly old Judge Hardy in MGM’s Andy Hardy series. I don’t have any story about Kotto, and Rooney stories all tend to be the same – either he complains about his height, is running around after his next bedmate or has Judy Garland telling her butler “don’t let that asshole in here” when he popped by for a visit during his down and out years.

Yesterday’s tales of sordid sex probably left a bad taste in your mouths, so let me try to give you something cheerier this morning. Let’s talk about music:

Silent movies, as the cliché goes, were never really silent. There was always some accompaniment, whether a single piano pounding out a bit of chase music as Pearl White was tied to a railroad track or a full orchestra goosing Rudy Valentino along as he made love to Gloria Swanson. But when talkies came along, studio chiefs wondered – if there was music during a scene, wouldn’t the audience wonder who was playing? One director solved this problem by telling his chief, “You tell me where the camera comes from and I’ll tell you where the music comes from,” but not everybody was as quick on their feet.

In 1929, writer Morrie Ryskind has just completed the shooting script for the Marx Brothers movie The Cocoanuts. The day after he submitted it, director Joseph Stanley cornered him, noting that during certain scenes where there was music under the dialogue, he hadn’t shown where it was coming from.

“What do you mean, where does the music come from? Where does it ever come from?” protested Ryskind. He stabbed a finger at the script. “Look, the guy says to the girl, ‘I’ve got something on my mind,’ somebody in the orchestra hits a note and they sing. That’s where the music comes from.” But Stanley only shook his head. “Audiences won’t accept that.”

Finally, after much wrangling, Ryskind agreed with Stanley to hire an orchestra that would sit in a bandstand and pretend to play during scenes in the movie where there was dialogue over music. But somehow, during all the rush to get the Marx zaniness on film, the cameramen forgot to get any shots of the fake band.

So as it turned out, the audience never did get to find out ‘where the music comes from’ in The Cocoanuts, and, as Ryskind said, “Nobody gave a damn, of course.”

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

*and was any woman ever as bunk-worthy as Jane Seymour’s Solitaire? Yum, yum.

48 #38 The WSJ article I mentioned upthread talks about how Obama was running ads all through his term, as well as having meet and greets for SOU speech viewing parties, targeted ads to ethnic groups (Asians, too) and never let his base drift away.

If you were a conservative Asian, you got barraged with 4 years worth of propaganda targeted to your group. Same with Hispanics, Indians, etc. So I can see how these GOP voters might have stayed home.

There isn't one answer for the loss, but a list of things which got Obama a few votes here, a few votes there. It ranges from targeted ads, MSM adoration, and Hollywood all the way to stealth religious bigotry being pushed under the radar, vote fraud, and intimidation. There is no one unifying theory, but a group of things all executed with the same goal in mind.

He got to vote on the "fix" and he broke the cloture block to get BS Dodd-Frank passed. The two slimy bastards that had more to do with the collapse than anyone else that were in Congress at the time wrote the fix to make it worse.

78 Well, Vic, I think the thing that might have been wrong was something Ace talked about. Even if you are conservative, if you are living on the dole because you've been out of work for three years, and the dole is all that stands between you and and your family going homeless and hungry, you're going to be a bit queasy about punching in for the guy who admits that's got to be curbed. You know you're screwing your kids in the future, but the future is far away, and your kids need meals today.

You can't go to the polls and make yourself vote for the SCOAMF you despise, so you sit at home, and drink a beer, and watch football, and try not to think about it.

79 @15

Minorities came out in large numbers because they see Romney and Republicans in general as an existential threat, period.

A great many GOP voters did not see the same in Obama.

There i no way to explain Romney getting fewer votes than McCain other than people did not see a conservative on the GOP ticket.

Ryan is good and all but he really is a one trick pony, its a great trick but after a while people want to see more than the woman getting sawed in half.

They want smoke and flash bombs and entertainment.

Every time I heard Romney/Ryan tell me Obama inherited a tough situation I just tuned out metaphorically.

Romney/Ryan stepped on their message time and time again, its too bad, because the hosed us all.

Plus I can't believe that ole pinch face McConnell couldn't have pulled some tricks on harry also but he didn't because like Boehner, he believes in big government and he wants friends in congress in case he ever gets power and needs some help.

There are no conservatives in Government. They get elected and they go to DC but once there they get reprogrammed (unless they're already there like Brown) and out comes a brand new Congressman all shiney and concerned about "reaching across the aisle" and "bipartisanship" and "gridlock is bad for the country".

And at night they're out with their democrat buddies and going to cocktail parties where they get wined dined and pocket lined.

The move is part of TI’s previously announced plan to refocus on faster-growing, more profitable areas of business.

It also means the Dallas-based chipmaker will discontinue its mobile business instead of selling it, spokeswoman Whitney Jodry confirmed.

The cuts amount to roughly 5 percent of TI’s nearly 35,000 employees worldwide and 9,900 workers in North Texas. The company plans to notify affected employees by the end of the month and the layoffs will occur over the next few quarters, Jodry said.

Gridlock is enshrined in the constitution and it's a good thing.

There are two legislative bodies composed of 535 people, a president and vice president.

That's 537 people who have to agree on bills and if a single person in the form of a president disagrees he can put the kabosh on the whole thing.

You couldn't get 500 random people to agree that blowjobs are awesome let alone if this or that legislation is good or not.

Unfortunetely our leaders think its their sworn duty to make legislation and create laws and in essence grow leviathan ever larger and more comprehensive.

137 Well, here is one thing that I think. Our side prides itself on individualism so much that we have a real weakness in party unity. Many of our members and candidates are what used to be known as "ball hogs" when I watched high school sports. Everyone thinks his answer is the only one, and when others don't agree, snit-fits ensue.

For those who are bitching at Romney, go read that article in the Wall Street Journal. I don't think any of the candidates could have overcome that amount of propaganda. Obama supporters are indeed a cult, and they are like the old-tie Moonies, constantly trying to lure others in.

And as far as the depressed voter turnout, I think fear of losing what little help some get from the government WAS a factor for unemployed blue collar people. And no matter what Romney could have done, there was a constant reminder that "he is rich, rich, rich and YOU are not."

A serious study on GOP voters who didn't turn out is called for. I hope someone does it pretty quickly.

Well contrary to my central position, I can understand that sometimes compromise is the only way forward. With candidates it's the same you try for the most like what you think is best and try to ignore the warts.

with brown though, it was like with Boehner. He kept (and keeps even unto lately) saying sh!t that he should keep to himself.

He don't have to BE a conservative but at least ACT like a conservative and not talk like some gaia loving hippie in a tie dye t shirt and beads.

Have either Scott Brown or John Boehner ever played poker? That would be worth watching for the laughs alone.

You know you're screwing your kids in the future, but the future is far away, and your kids need meals today.

I think there was a lot of that. More than we realize, probably. I can't say that I completely fault them. Is it stupid? yes. But these are the people who have never witnessed what a Marxist Socialist country really looks like. Sure, many remember the Soviet Union, but they remember it anecdotaly, third and fourth hand. They don't understand that if not for the US military umbrella, the Euromodel would have crashed long ago or have gone down the same way the SU did.

They have no up close and personal experience with it thus, it doesn't frighten them. Many, who blew off their BirkenMarxist professors as kooks, now kinda think...hey, what the fuck..? They have led comfortable live thus far, and think that somehow they can stretch it out. The only way to reach them is by example. Rhetoric just won't do it.

164 Wrong, you are confusing the "fix" with the bill itself. The bill was passed in Dec.

http://tinyurl.com/7xncvmv

A Bill is not one vote it is a series of votes and Searchlight had 60+ the life of the bill basically.

Brown couldn't stop the train, and we were hoping that Harry Would have to run the whole gamut without filibuster proofing.

Yeah, there were definitely a bunch of other times before when we could have stopped it (thanks Mitch!), but initially Brown's election appeared to be one, That's why we were cheering for him and that's why liberal trolls showed up here trying to guilt us for stopping Obamacare.

"At stake is the Democrats supermajority in the Senate. If Republican
state Sen. Scott Brown wins, the Democrats lose their 60 seat
filibuster-proof coalition in the chamber, threatening their chances of
passing the health care reform bill Obama hopes to sign into law."

....his true character is revealed for the first time. And he is not the man
who chopped down the cherry tree. “There’s George Washington the
national icon, gazing out from the dollar bill with his mouthful of
supposedly wooden teeth, and then there’s the George Washington who had
an adulterous affair with his best friend’s wife,” Seidler said. “The
George Washington obsessed with social status, finely-tailored clothes,
his image. Not an icon, a very human human-being, who learned how to
lead. That’s the man I want to understand.”

Posted by: Girl Scout Troop #32 at November 15, 2012 08:14 AM (sbV1u)

174 #148 You know, fear is really rampant in some areas of the country. It's one thing to work yourself out of poverty when you are young, it's another to be facing loss of your home and looking at empty pantries when your kids are hungry. A lot of people who are without work are almost paralyzed with fear. They have been unable to find anything but low-paying part time jobs.

These are not lazy people. These are people who have worked all their lives and they cannot find work. Many are in pockets of the country where they cannot sell their homes and relocate. What are you going to tell a 2nd generation coal miner in southern Ohio who lives in a small town? Who is going to buy his home if he moves? If he heads to the Bakken, he can't take his wife and kids because there is no housing. If he leaves his family, he worries they will be without protection in an area increasingly full of home invasions, meth dealers, etc.

So people get paralyzed, take the government check and EBT card, and hope like hell for better times.

I'm usually not up for protesting or letter-writing, but as long as my political hobby isn't going anywhere for a while we out to protest this thing.

His testimony 'way back when ("Jeng-giss Kaaahn") should have disqualified him from any government job, including lamplighter, in a world where perfidy was exposed and despised. Somehow (or inevitably: "it's Massatwoshits, Jake"), the fool wound up in Congress himself. But signing the "Dear Commandante" letter should've have seen him prosecuted and convicted for providing aid and comfort to our enemies. Didn't happen. And now this tax-evading, sorry ersatz gigolo may become SecDef.

There is no reason a video game couldn't teach some of this stuff. No reason a swell series of teen novels couldn't encourage independence. We need to recruit attractive youth to be our spokespeople. We need more media, and I don't mean just television.

Meh, who am I? Best get to work, I have carpets to clean today.

269 I continue to believe there were only three major factors behind Choom Boy's reelection, and all this yakking about how Romney "should have," "could have" and "didn't do" whatever is just a lot of noise.

They are:

1. Free Shit.
2. Race.
3. Fraud.

The first we could not do anything about. Osama Obama had the machinery in place to dispense the goodies, and the eunuchs in Congress (who could at least have slowed the flow) wanted theirs, too. The second was also an unchangeable fixture, with decades of white guilt, mythology and affirmative action thrown in.

As for the third: the Republican Elites won't go after this (and, of course, neither will the big-shot pundits, all of whom are allergic to hard work and law enforcement), so they have already floated the "birfer" meme about it. I guess if they can't "see" it, it doesn't exist. But I would rate it at least equal to the other two.

So we get the ol' "Four More Years!!11!!" treatment. After only a week of it, I am more convinced than ever that none of us can imagine how ugly it will be when (NOT if) the SHTF.

The "moderation" problem of the national GOP is even worse here. For decades they have pushed candidates on us that are left of center and almost universally pro-choice. Because for the people in the state committee, it really is about cocktail parties and not embarrassing their wives with icky conservatism.

That will change because here in the South Coast we are establishing infrastructure that is independent of the state party to elect conservatives who have Rs after their names.

We need to win 8 state senate seats to overcome the D supermajority. In a couple of cycles, we will get there. And when they need our votes to pass shit, then we will have some power.

But we don't get there by offering up Dem-Lite candidates. People will just vote for the real thing. We do it by offering an actual alternative.

Why not use a free-market solution? "Your slave property is now illegal, Mr. Planter, but we are going to compensate you at FMV." To the slaves: "You get a free ticket home, monetary compensation (again at FMV for unskilled agricultural labor), Western tools, and a firearm and ammunition to keep your possessions safe in the Dark Continent. No, you can't stay here." To the British cotton mill owners: "See if you can't get a Scotsman to invent a machine that will pick cotton faster than slaves can do it by hand." http://preview.tinyurl.com/d2tcn2s
Problem solved. Note that unless you've nipped International Socialism in the bud decades earlier you could still wind up with an Indonesian Obama.

And you are pissed because the Articles would have allowed the Confederacy to secede. Of course the country would not have existed, so that's just an academic point.

You remember it? That was the one where he joshed around about Knox's fat ass, "Don't swing your balls or you'll swamp the boat." I think he'd have said that.

Also, the idea that the Dems are the party of young, hip, poor, "people of color" should be relentlessly mocked at every turn, with imagery of Harry "Pedo Cryptkeeper" Reid, Pelosi, Feinstein, the Heinz-Kerrys, and so on. I'm not bashing them for being idealistic, just commenting on it. Also, they'd already defeated England by the time they were discussing the Constitution.

Although, I do not agree with Vic. I think the same forces that have corrupted our Constitution would have found a way to either destroy, or similarly corrupt the Confederation, too.

The primary problem, in both cases, is that the People fell asleep (or would have, in our alternate time-line) at the wheel. In particular, the 16th and 17th Amendment could be called the "anti-federalism amendments."

357 @269

I really believe the loss was due almost entirely to Romney/Ryan's poor messaging.

Obama received fewer votes this election to the tune of about 10 million.

Vote totals were down for the GOP as well.

Where did all of these voters go?

Romney/Ryan time and time again undid their message every time they said that Obama inherited a tough situation.

That translated to the economy, foreign affairs, etc.

It was Romney/Ryan's job to show why Obama has made things so much worse, they did not do that.

I really believe it was the vice Presidential debate that undid Romney/Ryan, here was their opportunity to hammer home their message with their most effective weapon in Ryan and he let JOE FUCKING BIDEN walk all over him.

When your opponent says he inherited a tough situation and your message is yes he inherited a tough situation but, and you don't hammer home the but part, well that's a recipe for a losing campaign.

And there was so much low hanging fruit for Romney/Ryan to hammer Obama over that it was just frustrating.

XL Pipeline.
Crony Capitalism.
War on Coal and energy production in general.
etc.

Romney/Ryan fought this campaign exclusively on the economy but they had a mixed unfocused message.

Also they squandered the opportunity to define their opponent at the convention.

Remember the 2004 convention speaker after speaker savaged, absolutely savaged John Kerry and John Edwards, SAVAGED!

They took those two to the wood shed to such a degree that on the final night a clearly drunken and shaken John Kerry held a press conference to stop the bleeding.

The message from this convention was a bunch of mush, mixed messages and love of hispanics.

Hispanics if you don't know have never given the Democrat Presidential candidate less than 56% of their vote. In 1988, two years after signing the largest general amnesty, the Dem. candidate received 70% of the hispanic vote.

So the moral of the story is moderation does not win, never has, never will.

And choose a message and hammer it home, do not equivicate or water it down.

Even after Yorktown we were not immune to military threats from England. We were still weak, and the idealism may have been the only way to keep interest in the creation of a lasting political system.

Even after the signing of the Constitution there were huge problems. Hell, Jefferson had to be convinced to spend money on a navy! Had the Articles not been tossed out in favor of a stronger central government I doubt we would have survived even 20 years.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Superstorm Sandy drove the number of people
seeking unemployment benefits up to a seasonally adjusted 439,000 last
week, the highest level in 18 months.

The Labor Department said Thursday that weekly
applications increased by 78,000 mostly because a large number of
applications were filed in states damaged by the storm. People can claim
unemployment benefits if their workplaces close and they don't get
paid.

It's all Bush's Sandy's fault!!!! Amazing how a storm that affected a small part of the country caused the unemployment number to jump. And how are people unemployed due to a storm.

===
This is exactly the issue. Conservatives have not been represented by the Republican party, and the Republican party can't understand why conservatives don't bother to vote for them. Hmmmm....

If we get an actual conservative candidate who stops with the pandering crap and goes all-in with TEA party principles, they will get the turnout.

447 This is the thing...nobody knows about this shit. Nobody knows that Flexible spending plans are now capped at $2500.

People with jobs that offer benefits should know that right now: it's open enrollment time (trying to figure out how much dental work I'll need next year...should have maxed it out last year...aaargh). I got it in a letter in October and thanked God I don't have a kid with braces.

But if you've been getting all your care paid for through Medicaid or the free county clinic...you don't fucking care that other people's taxes have been raised or that their health care has become less affordable. You care that SCOAMF said evil rich people are gonna take away your Free Shit.

.308 will work out to 300 yards without any trouble. And it's a military round so it is very common.

Lighter bullets will work on varmints and small game, while the heavier loads will take down game as big as elk (with a well-placed shot).

Then AR-15. Although depends on how tight quarters are. In which case, M-4.

I like them just because I am familiar with them, so that's just me. Being able to assemble/disassemble in the dark or low light is a distinct advantage.

But tangos closer in than 300M, then AK-47, because its a larger round and accuracy matters less...lead volume matters more.

452 On the guns thing:

I currently have a hand gun, I'll probably pick up a second one for my wife (she says the XD feels a little to big for her. And she wants a pink one). I actually now have a plethora of long guns, including an old Sears Roebuck .22LR (with something like a 5 round magazine), and a WW1 German rifle I can never remember the name of. Also a Remington 870, and a couple of other antique shotguns.

So, to all that fire-power, I need to add ammunition (unless I want to use them as very expensive clubs), and a semi-automatic long gun.

Here, I keep hearing that the Hi-Point carbines are a good option.

I have to plunk down $750/ year for my husband to be able to put the letters ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) after his name so he can maintain board certification. The multitude if optional fees including PAC don't get anything.

AK in .308. You might have to let them close to 200 yds depending on how good you get with it, but it will always go bang if it has cartridges and it's accurate to minute of asshole at 200 yards. .308 will take down any North American game animal as well.

457 <<<Put that into perspective...Bush won 51-48 in 2004.

To put that further in perspective, Ronald Reagan in 1980 won with ~50.1% of the vote. Bill Clinton never got 50% of the vote, yet won two terms.

This nation is so divided that if you do not play the Electoral College like a Stradivarius violin, you lose. The trend, however is improving. McCain lost by six states and around 1,000,000 votes. Romney lost by four states and 400,000 votes. So if the trend holds, Jeb Bush will only lose by two states, and 100,000 votes.

/ I think I just threw up a little.

You can spend 600-800 bucks and get a Baretta version, or 900 and turn that XD into a carbine that looks like a gun from mass effect...

I'd say buy a tough reliable pistol caliber carbine for 200-250 and use the savings to get more ammo/food/fuel/or body armor.

471 Bad unemployment numbers are blamed on good weather, bad weather.

If the storm really is to blame for generalized unemployment, then there should be a corresponding surge in IBEW work over the next year fixing all that fucked up electrical shit, and making the shit it'll be fixed with.

474 @333 Sean: I'm going to use some theoretical math to try to explain why I think you're wrong about this- namely Automatic Control Theory. In a control system you have several elements involved in making the whole thing work. The whole idea of control is to get something to be where you desire it to be. Where you want to be is usually never where you actually are, and the difference between the two is the error. You have something for sensing and measuring this error- it's called feedback. Feedback then drives the system in a direction to reduce the error. If the amount of error exceeds the ability of the feedback to correct it, the system goes out of control. Synopsis: there is too much error in our system for the feedback mechanisms to compensate for it. We are hosed.
