"Come After Me:" Obama Offers Rehearesed Tough-Guy Message on Benghazi, But Avoids Actual Answers

Ed Henry points out that Obama admitted what had long been assumed (but not explicitly said), that Susan Rice was sent out to talk about Benghazi at the White House's request.


The rest of it is a smoghastbord of evasions and rehearsed feigned outrage.

"As I said before, she made an appearance at the request of the White House in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her. If Senator McCain and Senator Graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me. And I'm happy to have that discussion with them. But for them to go after the U.N. ambassador who had nothing to do with Benghazi, and was simply making a presentation based on intelligence that she had received, and besmirch her reputation is outrageous," President Obama said at a press conference on Wednesday.

I would like very much to "have that discussion." When shall we schedule it?

Also: "the intelligence she received." Passive voice. Why does he avoid saying who gave her the intelligence? It's a shifty construction. If there was nothing amiss, he should have no problems specifying who gave her this "intelligence."

You avoid naming names when you have something to hide.

Another point: He stresses she had "nothing to do with Benghazi." Okay: Why did you choose someone who had "nothing to do with Benghazi" to present your case on Benghazi? Why did you make certain it was someone insulated from actual knowledge?

Watch the video. It's sick-making.

Lindsey Graham, meanwhile, says he'll do everything he can to block Susan Rice's nomination, which I assume includes a filibuster.

I usually tend to agree with the crowd that says Lindsey will sell out, but this time I think he will hold firm.

First, he is from SC and is up for re-election in 2014. There is zero downside for him to pick a fight with Obama (over anything really) -- Obama couldn't push a Democrat challenger over the line in SC if he had the world's biggest bulldozer. Graham needs to brandish his conservative credentials with the SC voters so he does not get hit with a serious primary challenge. What better way to do it than picking the first fight of President O'Golfalot's second term.

Second, Graham was one of the leaders of the impeachment fight against Clinton in the House -- he knows how to get attention when he wants it. This will get him attention.

Third, I think Rice is a horrible (and arrogant) pick given Benghazi. President Empty Chair wants to rub the Republican's nose in his victory -- he thinks he can do no wrong. This pick is wrong (politically and substantively). I also think McCain will hold firm too -- McCain is a self-righteous prig (which is often annoying), but this time it will help us. McCain is probably personally offended that President Jug Ears would push his even more incompetent flunky into the Secy of State position.

I reallyhope this happens.

I post this in response to the "Let It Burn" postings (of which I have contributed).

I will be the first to admit that I did not serve my country, and am ashamed of that. I do however hold teh utmost respect for those who have and are serving and Thank You to All the Men and Women Who Defend Our Freedoms and GOD Bless Those Who Died Trying.

My opinion of L.I.B. is not irrational and is not based on a lack of love for this great country, rather quite the opposite. I dearly love America, but look around and see those who would destroy it. I look at the petition for secession on the Government website and think "There is no way I am submitting my name" is this a stance where I am fearful of our government? I would say yes.

We are now openly putting people in jail for expressing their opinions, sacrificing our citizens and patriots in order to appease those who hate us, aggressively pushing infanticide via abortions, religious persecution and attacking the very founding principles upon which (I assume) most of us grew up cherishing.

I view the "L.I.B." stance as a opportunity to save these principles. As a nation we have spilled too much treasure to protect those principles we now look to save. It will be painful either way we choose to go but rather than acquiesce to the aberration
we are faced with I would prefer to stand for something, protect my family and friends and a way of life which has given so much to so many.
