Obama Campaigning: $3 In Cuts For Every $1 In Taxes
Obama at Debate: $2.5 in Cuts For Every $1 In Taxes
Obama's Actual Plan: $3 In Taxes For Every $1 In Cuts

He promised 3-to-1, cuts to tax increases.

His actual proposal is exactly the opposite: 3 (close to 4) to 1, taxes to cuts.

Oh, and he's doubled his previous $800 billion in new taxes -- a level he claimed was reasonable -- to $1.6 trillion.

If the last ask was reasonable, what's the new one? Twice as reasonable, I imagine.

And he'll just keep on lying, because the media supports his lies. The media wants a more Europe-like socialist state, and they know the public will not vote for that, if it is put to them straight; so Obama lies, and the media "fact-checks" him and calls his lies the truth.

Before the election, the media did in fact note that Obama's "plan" for $3 trillion in cuts didn't add up. Even Andrea Mitchell noted this. But note that no one interrogated him on this point at a debate, as Jim Lehrer and Candy Crowely interrogated Romney on his tax cut plan. That plan, they said, didn't add up, and wanted to expose Romney to the public on this point.

Obama's plan, they acknowledged sotto voce, also didn't add up, but they didn't feel it was necessary to make a big point about this in a debate which 60 or 70 million people were watching. Such points are better made on daytime cable shows with ratings of 400,000 people... once. Wouldn't want the word to get out.

If the filibuster is still around, then Dirty Harry could be forced to use reconciliation to put the taxes in.

Good news is that it would only take a 50 vote majority to overrule them down the road and there is a sunset date on any such changes.

35 Here's another small insight.

During the Biden-Ryan debate, I suddenly flashed on where I'd seen that tactic of deliberate interruption that Biden was resorting to.

It was in the debate between Hollande and Sarkozy in France. Hollande, the socialist, was the guy doing the rude interrupting. (What a surprise.)

Anyway, when Hollande went on to win, I predicted that it would be a poisoned-chalice victory. And it was. Underlying European and French economic conditions are not good. Hollande's fat new doses of socialism have worsened France's lot further still.

As a result, Hollande's popularity has fallen through the floor and many French voters are now wishing fervently for a do-over. His further agenda isn't going anywhere at this point. His party is going to be severely punished at the polls next cycle.

APPLY THIS MODEL TO OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATS.

Make them own it.

36 There was an old movie in the late 60s entitled Wild in the Streets. This rock star realizes that 52% of the population is under age 21 so he launches a bid to become president. He wins and runs things his way including rounding up everybody over 35, shooting them full of LSD, and letting them laugh their lives away in Happy Concentration Camp.

I'm ready. Give me my acid, man. I want to see the colors!

P.S. The hero runs as a Republican because the Republicans know they are doomed and don't want to lose relevance so they adopt the most obnoxious policies of the most radical Donks. You know, like they're doing now on immigration. I mean, "immigration."

P.P.S. The big hit song from that move was Nothing Can Change the Shape of Things To Come.

Let Congress go along, all the while saying, We think this is a bad idea. Then check back every so often: So how are these policies working out?

We have a significant number of people who think Obama's policies would have been just fine if it weren't for House Republicans thwarting him at every turn. Let's take that away, once and for all.

(A voice in the back of my head says, How'd that work out in California? Democrats are thoroughly in control, and it's still never their fault when the situation gets worse.)

38 For one thing, quit playing their game of reporting things in a 10 year timeframe. If it's $1.6 trillion in 10 years, what does that really mean in the next year alone? Is it $160 billion every year for 10 years, or is their some front loading involved?

If the cuts are being reported similarly, and I have no doubt they are, the same issue/questions apply.

Finally, shouldn't we make sure and point out that this plan won't have much effect at all on a $1.1 trillion YEARLY deficit.

New petition onthe White House Petitions site, We thePeople: http://wh.gov/X1jp

Require some form of identification in order to vote in Federal
elections

Whereas currently both citizens and non-citizens may easily vote multiple
times in elections, the results cannot accurately represent to will of the
people. Those who vote legally have their voices count less than the voices of
those who vote illegally.

Identification is already required for everyday activities such as driving a
vehicle or using a credit card. Such identification is easy to obtain - the vast
majority of Americans already have something as common as a drivers license, and
those who do not can easily obtain a government-issued identification card for
little or no cost. Voter ID requirements have not caused any problems in the
states which already have them.

Requiring identification in order to vote will restore integrity to the
voting process without unduly burdening anyone.

55 I hate to be a debbie downer, but I've really kind of abandoned any hope
that anything significant is going to be done to fix our debt problem.
They might find something to patch the fiscal cliff but it is nothing
compared to whats going to happen long term.

Our debt problem is too immense in proportion to Obama's ability to meet
the challenge. He doesn't have the tools in his bag to get it done. He
doesn't even come close to having the basic traits of a leader... he has
no idea what it means. Can anyone honestly compare his performance to
that of some of our most admired leaders in history?

He doesn't possess the emotional maturity, the intellectual capability,
temperament or the ideological will to do anything about it. He's a very
small minded individual who doesn't have the experience to tackle such a
large problem that he is perpetuating through unbelievable spending.
Tax the rich is all we hear... it's akin to draining the ocean one
teaspoon at a time.

I get the sense he just wants to ride his pony around the world, play
golf, demonize his opponents, give pretty speeches, hang with
celebrities, soak up the adulation and be an all around charlatan. There
really is no substance to his policies or his narcissistic character.

The reality of our situation doesn't seem to register with the majority
of the electorate. I see college kids screaming in adulation of this man
despite the inability to find a job. And if they're lucky enough to
find a job, they'll realize how their hard work is being mortgaged and
the futility of paying taxes into a system that will ultimately collapse
from spending on social entitlements, mismanagement and outright
political deceit and fraud.

Both parties are responsible. Our country doesn't have it's rudder in
the water, there is no captain at the helm and we're drifting toward a
waterfall.

71 Another thing to remember:

Obama does NOT like to work. Capitalize on that.

Carol Platt Liebau was at Harvard Law while he was. She was on the Law Review while he was the Editor. She says he was in love with the idea of BEING the editor of the review -- but not with doing any actual editing, which she and others ended up doing for him.

Same pattern with the 2009 stimulus. Obama waved his hand regally and declared that "There shall be stimulus," and left it to Pelosi and Reid to design.

Remember the budget negotiations where Ryan schooled Obama to his face, and Obama got quite visibly angry about the whole thing?

Obama doesn't like to work. He doesn't like to study. He doesn't like details. He dislikes being challenged. He doesn't like to be down in the weeds.

Great. Drag his ass down there. Drown him in detail. Make him explain stuff in front of the cameras. Give him a whiteboard and Ryan a whiteboard and make him do math (which he's not good at) right there live on the fly.

He will back off and retreat to the golf resorts faster than you can imagine.

Remember also: if we actually are able to run and win a Senate majority in 2014 (without nominating retards who blurt out stuff about rape pregnancies being "intended" by God), Obama has only two more years to do serious damage.

well--

One thing you'll notice about democrats is, they have
EXCELLENT message discipline- every swinging dick with a D after the

I seea problem with their big plan: Americans are not Europeans. We don't have a ten thousand year tradition of subservience and fealty and serfdom to the king or the master or the laird. No, I'm not expecting a sudden awakening of the masses--and I once hated the term 'masses', equating it with Marx-speak in universities, until I realized there truly were and are people solely interested in following the comfortable path of least resistance no matter where it leads; so no, the masses aren't awake. But some of us are, those who matter. We're awake and alert. What that means, I don't know. I just know it's true.

What I love about these commenters is that they repeat the Media Matters taling point that this is only a "tiny percentage of taxpayers" so it won't collapse the economy, but at the same time that tiny percentage of taxpayers coughing up 3% more in income taxes is going to fix a $1 trillion deficit.

Remember Bush in the 2000 election?

Afterward he confessed he was amazed he won, because he had been running against "peace and prosperity".

A big part of the squeaker victory Bush managed was simple "Clinton Fatigue".

Voters got tired of Clinton and his party even WITH peace and prosperity.

While your comments are taken to heart the bottom line is that the media cover their own (unlike Republicans) to maintain power. We can Blog but until we have some courage in the media (yeah right) they own the narrative, disgustingly so.

They have abdicated their responsibility to be a watchdog for the country and are traitors! A media who refuses to cover Benghazi, F&F, Sandy ad infinitum but can uncover emails on the DP story in 36 hours only validates their stance of being shills for the democraps.

We preach to the choir here and other conservative arenas. The plan must include a way to infiltrate the deep blue sectors in a covert way....."Republicans finish second in the election while Democrats end up next to last" using their own propaganda style tactics against them in creative ways.

Maybe even go undercover and poison the well of the liberal drinking hole.

153 #91 And I don't know why the GOP tax bill can't say, return to the Clinton tax rate on salary and investment income over $250k, but income from profits on a Subchapter S business will not be taxed atthe higher rate, in factthe tax rateon this incomewill be LOWERED. This encourages job-creating small businesses and hits mostly the asshole rich and upper middle class lawyers and doctors and lobbyists and defense contractorsin New York, Virginia, and California who voted for Obama.

My boss makes $500k a year in salary. I really, really don't care, and neither does he, if his taxes go up a little. He won't miss that money and it won't affect his consumer spending or saving in any appreciable way. He can also put a little more in his 401(k) or buy a couple of municipal bonds to avoid that extra tax if he wants.

So we can meet Obama's number by hurting HIS constituents, which is exactly what we should do. Then the media have to STFU about those icky Republicans who keep sucking Grover's dick and refuse any tax increases. And we will be able to show by the midterms in 2014 that this Obama tax increase didn't do jack squat to grow the economy or fix the deficit.

BTW, why was there voter fraud in safe blue state Mass? Because of Elizabeth Warren.

254 Of course, these are bargaining positions. Since every dollar in federal spending is sacred, directly tied to an old person's life support system, nothing will ever be cut from spending, unless it's promised to be cut 10 years out from now, from defense.

255 I tweeted McConnell today to make Rand Paul head of the NRSC, and have him recruit 20 doctors to run in 2014 on a unified theme of attacking Obamacare. Wouldn't that be a kick? I know a Doc in Virginia that would probably kick Mark Warner's ass, he is a Republican and also an OB/GYN. Let them try the "war on women" bullshit on him!

256 You know, I supported--and do--raising some taxes if accompanied by real Democratic pain too. But not this.

I am against really higher taxes for the rich because as I would not be a slave, neither would I be a slaver. It's not because I really want to carry water for Big Money GOP donors. But hey, if they want to use the GOP for what they want and really don't care about anything else, it is my decided opinion that since the left doesn't love them, that above all else those folks can be taken care of for quite some time to come.

Leave them to the Democratic wolves. Let it burn.

257 Actually in looking at it, maybe we should be supporting Kuchinich. Take a look at this article http://preview.tinyurl.com/bzozdfa

REP. DENNIS KUCINICH: First of all, thank you.

Secondly, it’s amazing that we’re in an America where we have to
defend the rights of Americans to be free from assassination by their
own country, to be free from extrajudicial killing by their own
government.

I expect that the Obama administration will continue their policies
of drone strikes, which have killed hundreds of innocent people and have
put to death, through drone strikes, thousands of individuals who were
just determined to be combatants, often because they happened to be the
wrong age. This is repugnant to morality. It’s morally depraved, this
drone strikes. And whether you’re a Democrat or Republican doesn’t
matter. This is about what kind of human beings we are.

When partisan politics trumps morality, we are in big trouble. So I
had no problem whatsoever in challenging this administration, the Bush
administration, the Clinton administration, or any other administration,
whenever I felt the—the honor of our country, the heart of our country
was at risk.

The drone situation is abominable. By the way, I’m going to have a
briefing in Washington on November 16th on the drone policies. We’re
going to be bringing some of the top people in the world who have
something to say about this and could be considered experts, on civil
liberties and other matters.

But our country is changing, you know, and think about this: drones
are now being offered and used domestically. How long is it before some
local police department uses a drone to intercept and kill a suspect,
and when that becomes commonplace? People say, "Oh, well, that can’t
happen." Well, it’s happening now overseas, and we’re committing acts of
war in other countries without Congress’s knowledge or without
Congress’s assent. We’ve got a problem here. And no matter who wins
tonight, we still have a problem.

258 Let's become Democrats! No really, we push to nominate the most fringe candidates they have. Think Dennis Kuchinich! They have lots and lots of nutcases out there. We jus need a few more Elizabeth Warrens in office and the problem will become too hard to ignore.
Posted by: notsothoreau at November 14, 2012 01:05 PM (5HBd1)

Old trick. The Democrats in Chicago have been doing that for years: registering as Republicans and putting forward the least capable GOP candidates. McCaskill and her people did it with Akin in Missouri, too, when Democrats were encouraged to cross over and support Akin. You think Akin was the best Republican in the primary field? Think again.

The reason such a tactic wouldn't work for us, at least on a national level, is because the MSM is good at covering up the inadequacies of their preferred candidate (see Obama, Barack; Biden, Joe; Pelosi, Nancy; Reid, Harry). The MSM would obviously not afford a Republican candidate the same courtesy.

260 well, don't worry, the 2014 round of voter fraud will eliminate any need to worry about the fate of the country as we will be a permanent socialist country.

261 Lou Dobbs on FNC just now talking about how every second term president is overcome by hubris, including W, who bragged about all the capital he had and then proceeded to waste it.

He then remarked that for hubris, Obama has already set the bar really high, but it appears he will be able to exceed the high-water mark. (pp)

264 Republicans need to start playing the game right. Insert Reynolds Hollywood Tax Break Repeal into every bill. Attach an amendment adding a surcharge to any tenured income. College professors, teachers, bureaucrats, etc.. Just enough to make it hurt. Target every middle and upper income Obama constituency and make him choke on it. Time to go on offense. The only way to change the game is to change our response to it. The only reason Newt received a single vote was the fact he refused to play the media game their way and wasn't afraid to call them out on it.

Enough with that 'Let it burn' business, please. I'm sick of hearing/reading it. When confronted by a stealth socialist takeover of the United States, it seems to me the appropriate response is determined resistance, not resignation, despair,or passive acquiescence. Besides, when you say, "Let it burn," you forget that 'it', the country, also means you. Self-destruction is a sucker's game.

268 UPS is headquartered in Atlanta, I believe. Louisville does have a huge hub there though. Fed Ex is based in Memphis. I would bet all three cities went for Obama just based on the fact that most cities were won by Obama.

"Enough with that 'Let it burn' business, please. I'm sick of hearing/reading it....Besides, when you say, 'Let it burn,' you forget that 'it', the country, also means you."

Well put, but here's my point of view:

I don't want the country to burn. I've sworn an oath to protect it. I meant it and still do.

When I agree with those who say, Give the [president] every goddamn destructive thing he wants, it's not because I want the country to suffer so I can have my way politically.

Rather, I think it's going to have to get worse before it gets better. Getting worse could be the start of our slide into oblivion - or it could be the slap in the face that wakes us up. Which way it goes depends on us. It depends on a strong, principled resistance to statism that the Republican party is not doing a good job of offering, and that independents right now confuse with callous indifference.
