My daughter, until she was in her teens, would still occasionally sleep with me. At some point during each night she would burst out with the biggest, giggliest, belly-laugh imaginable.

Well I gave up on Skyrim. Again. Because it froze up loading a level 60+ character. Again. So, I started up a game of GTA 4. Again.
Because the next one won't be out until 'some time' next year.

I've seen all 3 seasons, and 2 is my favorite. It's a really good show once you get into it. If you haven't seen seasons 1 and 2, I highly recommend it.

Have you checked out those electric uprights? You might snag a used one for a couple of grand. As for me, I'll stick to my Jazz Plus 5-string I've been playing for about 15 years. It has my cooties all over it.
Oh, and I'm enjoying having my laptop running again. Watching my 2 and 4 Magic keep up with the Knicks, for a while, at least. B'Gal's nuking something that smells pretty good. Still trying to recover from my Crimson Tide getting mauled by the Aggies last Saturday.

Also, in light of last weeks thread about things we want to do better I got I, Robot and The Rest of the Robots from the library.
In the forward to Forward The Foundation, Asimov listed the robots stories in their chronological order (not the order written but the order in which that "history" took place). I plan on reading them in order. It should be fun to revisit that timeline.

Nice mix of actual games/characters (including some obscurities), and some pastiches/homages. (Disney's released Fix It Felix as an iPod app, and while not a clone of an existing game, it's very very retro.)
The music is great, too. (Of course a candy/pastry/sugary go-kart game's theme would be J-pop! What else would it be?)
Anyway, while I know there's a strong "boycott Hollywood" element here (or certain actors, or whatever), it doesn't matter. Still totally worth seeing. I'd go on, but I really don't want to spoil. It's so much fun.

Even in Ian Fleming's books many of the best enemies were rich guys who were ideologs.
Why couldn't they have at least done that in Skyfall?

My parents, now of blessed memory, were both teachers in the NYC system and saw the takeover by the leftists very early in their careers. Still, they were able to teach effectively, even in some of the worst inner-city schools and got out in the '89 and '90 respectively.
My brother just retired and although he hates SCOAMF, he is fiercely pro-union. Just can't comprehend where all his money and benefits come from. I think I'm getting through to him but it is a touchy subject, as you can imagine.
As for the rest of academia, there isn't a mikvah deep and filthy enough to drown them in.

Played a great gig Saturday night, had the club and the dance floor packed, nobody fell into the equipment, it was all good. Got a lot of compliments on the sound and look of my new neon orange DR bass strings. Shiny!
I might have to check those out. My 4-string fretless (solid black, rosewood fretboard, double scale, marked) would really show off some orange strings.
And I might be getting a full time drumming gig with the Infidels. The band leader mentioned getting a place to practice (!), a promising sign. He told me to work on a "wish list" of songs to play, so I'm putting a lot of Grand Funk, ZZ Top and some obscure stuff on there along with "My Sharona". If we're going to broaden our repetoire, we may as well do it right.

The orange doesgo nicely with the honey colored quilted maple sunburst body on the Jazz 24. And they sound great for classic rock, heavy on the fundamental.

Normally I would agree with you. Movies should wash over your skull, not penetrating beyond the follicles. You shouldn't learn a fuckin thing by the end of a movie.
But a lot of those Bond films just strain credulity a bit much. Too much of a mix of the ordinary and the fantastical. Doesn't seem internally consistent.
The Daniel Craig versions I liked. Light in the retarded spy gear and heavy on the sociopathic coldness of the main character, which is what you would need in your tame murderer, not some foppish half a fag like Roger Moore.

Thank you for contacting me regarding the atrocious acts of terror against Americans in North Africa. I appreciate hearing from you and I share your concerns.
As you know, on September 11, 2012, a group of hostile Islamic radicals attacked the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killing the United States Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, including two Navy SEALS.
In addition, a group of radicals stormed the U.S. embassy in Cairo, Egypt and desecrated the American flag and attempted to replace it with an Islamist banner with the Arabic inscription, "[t]here is no God but God, and Mohammad is his Messenger." Similar attacks and demonstrations have since occurred at multiple U.S. embassies and diplomatic missions and American restaurant franchises in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Europe. Attacks have also occurred at German and British embassies in North Africa, including Sudan. The Libyan government has apprehended over 50 suspects connected to the Benghazi terror attacks.
Initially, the Obama Administration declared that the attacks were a response to a low-budget film produced in the United States available on YouTube that derides the Islamic religion. This was inaccurate and a testament to the President's terrible mishandling of the situation.
It has become clear that the attacks in Benghazi were planned. The assailants that approached the consulate were armed with firearms, RPGs and diesel canisters, all believed to have been used to set the consulate buildings on fire. In addition, the assailants seemed to be aware of the existence of the consulate's "safe house" where Ambassador Stevens fled prior to his death. What's worse, it appears that the Obama Administration was informed of security concerns by U.S. officials on the ground in Libya, but the Administration failed to address these concerns before the attack.
Since the Benghazi attack, the President and his Administration have not been forthright with Congress and the American people about the cause of the attacks and the Administration's prior knowledge of security concerns at U.S. diplomatic missions in Libya. Until the second presidential debate on October 11, 2012, the President had not even taken responsibility for providing insufficient information about the attacks and the meager security provided to U.S. officials there.
I am appalled by these violent and vicious attacks against American diplomats and soldiers, as well as the President's gross mishandling of the situation. You have my assurance that I am working to bring justice to those responsible for the terror attacks and hold the Obama Administration accountable.
I will soon join Representative Jeff Duncan in introducing legislation condemning the terror attacks and demanding that the President report to Congress what knowledge the Administration has concerning how the attacks were initiated and what warnings the Administration received prior to the attacks on September 11, 2012.
Especially after these horrific attacks, Congress must also be highly critical of foreign aid programs provided to countries where the safety of our citizens and allies abroadare compromised. As an ardent and long-standing critic of our foreign aid missions, I believe any foreign assistance program should be provided with strong conditions. I have consistently voted against the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill each year because I believe the way our foreign aid is structured has not been effective in addressing our country's foreign policy goals and strategic interests.
I strongly believe it is in our country's best interest to ensure that we eliminate potential prospects for Islamic or political extremism from expanding in countries receiving foreign aid, including Egypt and Libya. I believe our foreign assistance programs should be carefully tailored to advance our Constitutional principles, U.S. sovereignty, free enterprise, and the security of American citizens. Previous events have displayed that fanatic Islamic extremism carries grave consequences for America's national security. We must ensure that we are not abetting the enemy. If we send aid to foreign countries, we must place strong conditions on that aid, and we must insist that the President enforce those conditions.
Today we face a unique set of national security challenges as a nation. Acts of terrorism against the United States will not be tolerated. It is imperative that we remain vigilant in our relationships with foreign governments and ensure that we are effectively defending our citizens and our Constitutional values from enemy provocation. I remain committed to ensuring that the United States is prepared to overcome any challenge to our national security.

My secret weapon is a Sans-Amp direct box. It has a preamp that I can dial in a plethora of sounds with. The blues guys I played with were purists, so I didn't use it much on those gigs, but playing both bass and drums with this classic rock outfit lets me stretch out more.
I'm really looking forward to playing drums with these guys, tho'. That's always a challenge, one I can pull off better than on bass.

If so check out Fresh n Easy- they have a huge pile of different meals now that are ready to make, so easy even I can throw them together. Apricot-stuffed pork tenderloin, stuffed salmon, mixed brussell sprouts with bacon, etc. All easy, ready-to-cook, and dirt cheap.
Also they are non-union.

Marriage from a civil standpoint is to protect children, period. This is in the interest of the government because otherwise, we get the ghetto. Unrestricted crime, dead babies, the whole ugly thing. Marriage allows one spouse, presumably the pregnant one, the ability to have the time to procreate and raise children. Whether women take advantage of this is beside the point.
Nobody, not even your intelligent self, has shown that there is any reason for the government to protect gay men in the same way. Science has yet to demonstrate any benefit whatsoever from "gay marriage." So far, nobody has demonstrated any way for a gay man to procreate, outside of some serious histrionics.
So, is the government supposed to be in the business of making gay men feel better about their perverted life style? I didn't think so. Nobody here condemns them, but everybody here would prefer if we could talk about something beside putting penises into asses.

L, just L, do you know about the "oven pot roast?" 2 layers of heavy
duty aluminum foil. Get a boneless chuck roast (size of your choosing,
but the leftovers are wonderful). Sprinkle it with an envelope of
lipton's dry onion soup mix. Throw it in the middle of the foil. Spoon a
can of Campbell's cream of mushroom (not that low-fat shit, either)
over the top. Seal up the foil. Put it in a preheated 325 oven for, um, I
forget but maybe a couple-three hours. Right before it's done, boil
water and add wide egg noodles. Pot roast makes its own delicious gravy.
Best and easiest home-cooked meal on the planet. Hardly anything to
clean up.

I am not opposed to it, but am concerned about the way gay marriage has been being pushed on the general population and the effort to say it is not a change in the definition of marriage.
On the first item, I am fine with folks approving gay marriage by vote, but not okay with accusations of bigotry at those opposed. On the second item, it is clear to me that the old definition of marriage excluded gays. If gays can get married, the definition changes. The definition of marriage is not just a matter of entries in a lexicon, but is central to the structure of society.
I urge care in thinking those against gay marriage are motivated by only the basest things.

Mmmmm, your creamed onions sound divine! The sausage, yes, get the bulk breakfast sausage and fry it up in a pan, crumbling it all up small with a fork, then drain and add to the bread/sage/onion/celery dressing. At least, that's how it was done in my well-fed family.

this argument puts you far to the left (in a statist sense) of many anti-marriage arguments by positing that the government has, in fact, a deep-seated interest in defining marriage.
seeing as "marriage" is clearly not restricted to only those unions that can produce couples -- otherwise the infertile/barren would not be allowed entry into a contract of marriage -- it's no far stretch to surmise that the simple act of entering into a monogamous relationship is in and of itself of social benefit. that is, there is a social benefit to be found in the extension of marriage benefits to those individuals who will be homosexual in any event, as it presumably confines their sexual behaviour to mutual spousal engagements.
as the party of personal responsibility, it seems a no-brainer that we should be allowing homosexuals who desire to take the ultimate vow of mutual responsibility. if two guys in love want to settle down, by all means, we should accommodate their desires. o.o

For sausage, I always use chorizo, which adds tons of nice spicy flavor to a, basically, bread dish.
But no matter what sides I serve, they all get smothered in gravy, which is the entire purpose of a Thanksgiving feast.

The state has a vested interest in hetero marriage: If couples producing children don't vow to stay together and care for the offspring, the state will (and does,at great financial and societal expense.)
Hetero marriage benefits the couple and society. Homosexual marriage benefits the couple. Is that distinction enough to ban same sex marriage? Nah. The country is losing interest in marriage overall, let alone taking the time to wrestle with distinctions. It will happen, and the world won't end, but, as far as the state's interest is concerned, there is a distinction.

i know i tried to make the point that marriage provides benefits to society in the institution of monogamy, but it may have gotten lost. since most homosexuals are going to stay homosexual, society has a vested interest in the stability of their relationships in any case...children or no! stable relationships are generally psychologically beneficial, and healthy psychology is always good for productivity, and high productivity is good for the economy...plus, monogamous couplings greatly reduce the public health risk associated with the "hook-up" culture of multiple partners.
either way, that's not my argument for gay marriage! it was simply my response to the statist idea that governments have a vested interest in promoting the contract.

eh, i'm not so sure about that! to your point, i disapprove as much of the activists on the pro-marriage side as i do on the anti-marriage side, but there are certainly plenty of "activists", if you can call them that x.X, who seem to almost revel in the fact that gay couples have to jump through inordinate legal hoops in order to possibly be granted the same legal protections that the one-size-fits-all marriage contract protects.
there are people on both sides, it seems, that take pleasure in the schadenfreude of "sticking it to" their opponents in the debate x.X

nuclear bonding has absolutely nothing to do with electrons; electrons, naturally, are not even part of any nuclear anything: nuclei are comprised of baryonic matter (which, in turn, are comprised of various combinations of quarks in the sm) and nuclear-force particles; viz, gluons.
the strong interaction is realised by the colour-changing exchange of virtual gluon pairs between the quark constituents of any baryon. the nuclear force, i.e., the residual force that holds nuclei together, is enacted by the exchange of mesons -- quark-antiquark-pair hadrons -- between baryons (with no colour change, since the mesons and hadrons are colourless).
in neither strong-force-mediated nuclear interaction does the electron play any part whatsoever.
while its true that electrons, or positrons, depending on the type of beta decay, are products of weak-interaction beta decay, the beta particle itself is simply something ejected with a corresponding antineutrino from the nucleus in the transition from one baryon type to another.
nevertheless, the sm with its particulate constituents like the electron is simply a model. there is some manifestation of matter-energy that behaves in largely predictable ways that we have denoted as "the electron"...which does absolutely nothing to alter the fact that the electron is just a convenient and sensible constituent of a theoretical model.
that is, we are not advanced enough to prove that our "electron" exists as a manifestly contradictory wave disturbance that takes on localised particulate properties when interacting with another wave disturbance more-or-less localised at the point of interaction.
my original point was that the experimental success of a theory does not prove the unerring accuracy of its underlying assumptions. in the late 1800's, we were all but certain that electromagnetic radiation was purely wavelike...and maxwell's equations are still incredibly useful in formulating predictions for the collective behaviour of electromagnetic signals' quanta.
also: what i meant when i said i hated fake-science types is that i hate fake-science types. sorry you didn't get that memo.
a decided atheism is just as scientifically irresponsible as a decided theism; with no evidence for either conjecture, faith is required to take a position on the matter either way.
and anyway, it's clear that anyone who believes that the electron has something to do with the nuclear interaction has no grounding in "astrophysics", e-claims aside.

Or do you want me to explain Bosons to the hicks on this site, and explain how they break down into neutrino's and electrons, and the boson is the carrier of the weak force.
Or shall we discuss the strong force. OR explain how charges, color or spin do not need to be whole numbers. OR color can be changed.
Seriously, get a grip, speak to your audience. And simplify for those who do not understand particle physics. DO you think that anyone here would understand the pressure gradient in stellar atmospheres? Not really, unless they had a sound bases in mathematics and ALL the laws of thermodynamics.
By the way, as long as it can be quantized, its a "particle"...(excluding the fact, that all particles exhibit wave like functions - ie a wavicle - besides, LEARN BASIC PHYSICS. Electrons exhibit particle behavior.....)

My husband loves to hear me chew out other people too. Have you noticed how kids are fascinated by other kids getting their asses handed to them? I am not sure what that is about psychological but I am sure both phenomena are connected. Maybe just the dam glad that's not me phenomena.
