Well I'm back in the US - all exhausted and jet-lagged and with my sausage contraband unconfiscated. Sometime the system fails us.
This is a classic short story that I had forgotten all about until logprof mentioned it a week or two back.
I got another barber that comes over from Carterville and helps me out Saturdays, but the rest of the time I can get along all right alone. You can see for yourself that this ain't no New York: City and besides that, the most of the boys works all day and don't have no leisure to drop in here and get themselves prettied up.You're a newcomer, ain't you? I thought I hadn't seen you round before. I hope you like it good enough to stay. As I say, we ain't no New York City or Chicago, but we have pretty good times. Not as good, though, since Jim Kendall got killed. When he was alive, him and Hod Meyers used to keep this town in an uproar. I bet they was more laughin' done here than any town its size in America.

But Western Michigan is full of tough, hard conservative folks who aren't going to run away. It's a beautiful place in summer, with hundreds of small lakes, the western shore of Lake Michigan.

Everyone needs to read Ramsdell's history of Texas after Reconstruction; it is an older book and so free on several archives. That digression just posted mostly derives from that.
In addition, it deals with the wrangling under which many Texans pondered exactly that - splitting up the state, and making new states, with El Paso going to New Mexico Territory.

I know many are believing we are boned. However, I believe there are many untapped financial opportunities in the upcoming year. For example:
1. I plan to open a little grocery store with no groceries. What....well, real simple. EBT Fraud is easy and, more importantly, with enough of a kick back to the local Democratic party boss, I should be left alone. Its win-win, the patron will get 50% of what they "bought" back in cash, the pay-offs are prob. 10%, I gotta probably spend 20 - 25% in over head and the rest.....profit. 2. Green Energy consultant. I know nothing about green energy. I know just enough to write a phony baloney grant request and smart enough to realize that kicking 50% back as a campaign contribution keeps my grants going.

It isn't treason. The electorate voted in a nanny state, adducing the 10th amendment or 'states rights' is ipso facto racist to the political, media and academic classes, and they voted to live beyond our means now in the hopes we will never have to live beneath our means later on (i.e. our children). It is an opinion that Lincoln was wrong about states rights, even if he was right about everything else.
Our side's goose is cooked under the current configuration. If anyone here can demonstrate how the party can 'realistically' be saved I'm open to suggestions (but not self-delusion, like we got throughout this campaign). And no, immigration reform is suicide, so forget that.

They've already decimated the economy with government intervention. It isn't going to recover. It's going to get worse and worse. And if they somehow manage to win in 2014 what are they going to do? Rejuvenate the economy? They are economic poison.
All they have done is hasten then end of their beloved State. They will drive down economic activity and continue to spend like drunken sailors until the checks finally bounce. Much of the world has already stopped buying our bonds. It's not that far off.
And we need the State to collapse. Freedom is not compatible with a monster progressive state. It doesn't mean the country will collapse. It does mean we need to work on what comes after, but we do need something to do. Don't we?

But on this point I must protest. Yes, parties have lost big and come back before, but never has the demographic writing been on the wall this clearly. And the case of California after amnesty is damning. I sincerely doubt that we get out of the next term without some kind of immigration reform that structurally damns us. Alternately, statehood for Puerto Rico might damn us as well. It is true that no immigrant is forever beholden to one party, but the probability that the majority of them will go with the party whose imprimatur is on the immigration law is high. further, many immigrants espouse liberation theology, which is inimical to most republican ideas (but not secular nanny-state ones).
So what is our big move, Maet, if it isn't at least giving passing thought to the really big moves like going 3rd party and amnesty?
And if we don't go with a big move like that (which let's face it, we won't), what is our recourse when the next thing doesn't work (which let's face it, it likely won't)?

Larger parts of the GOP are private sector workers. We have jobs outside of politics. We do it for a mutlitude of reasons.
Democrats rely more frequently on politics for their job. Whether it be directly (a position in government) or indirectly (getting the government cash for my foundation, union, whatever).
Now, who is more motivated (and who has more time) for the nuts and bolts of politics.

Holy crap, if this stuff is true then this whole story makes sense. The BO admin has been supplying weapons to rebels all across the 'arab spring', and BO wanted those weapons back before they could be used to do anything politically damaging in the election year, so the CIA and Stevens (who facilitated the supplying of said weapons) were sent to Benghazi where rebels were being held and interrogated (tortured), and they were there the same time the terrorist rebels launched an attack on the compound killing Stevens and the CIA agents (former Navy SEALs). Now Petreus was blackmailed about his affair and will be the fall guy for the whole Benghazi affair, to cover up the fact that O was supplying weapons to dangerous terrorists and that rebels were being held and tortured in the Benghazi compound on his watch.

There may well be succession if the DC goes tits up, but that would be a formal matter to protect the state's residents from liability for federal debts. And at that point DC would be in no position to enforce the union.
But a classical succession movement is extremely unlikely.

So again folks, I would like to have it explained what the more likely successful solution is. John Allen, is under investigation for alleged "inappropriate communications" with Jill Kelley, the woman who is said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom former CIA Director David Petraeus had an extramarital affair.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the FBI referred the matter to the Pentagon on Sunday. Panetta says he ordered a Pentagon investigation of Allen on Monday.
A senior defense official, who discussed the matter only on condition of anonymity because it is under investigation, said Allen's communications were with Kelley, who has been described as an unpaid social liaison at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., which is headquarters to the U.S. Central Command.

Howdy, Kalneva! After going back and forth with what was available in store at Bed, Bath Beyond I eventually settled on the teal. Gray wasn't me, purple and red insisted on themselves, chocolate and tan remind me of work, and white...well, I had to debate it but eventually teal won out. Something about it just seemed more inviting.
Now as for the comforter I've decided any cheap piece of shite will do. I'll hardly use it save for a total of a month out of the year and nothing at BBB looked good or if it did was too expensive whereas Target has some better ones and will be selling 'em cheap on Black Friday.
