25 Apparently Lindsey Graham was on a bews show this morning. I'd like him to explain to me how you go to the back of the line to get a Green Card ("which might take decades") and yet still somehow be able to work and stay in the country, a condition which pretty much sounds like you gave a Green Card to me.

Hey, I know. How about Lindsey "amnesty" me into being a billionaire, where I go work for it, "starting at the back of the line" on my own for a few decades, but actually get given the money now? Makes about as much sense as his idea.

"Allons", indeed.

Reasons why the GOP is not fighting voter fraud in Florida, Ohio, and Colorado---and probably other places too:

A. It's just too hard to prove it.
B. They are total pussies.
C. They truly believe the Democrats don't cheat and are used to losing.
D. All of the above.

Why bother, so some other RINO is elected? Just let NJ go full Dem like California.

I am personally going to donate a good chunk of money to the Dem running against Kristie Kreme. I'm done with the "a bad Republican is better than a Democrat" mindset. Had that fat fuck been a Democrat nobody would have cared that Obama got a blow job from him on the beach. But because the blow job came from a "Republican" it made Obama look bi-partisan.

No more Kristie Kremes. No more Scott Browns. No More Linsdey "no really I swear I'm not gay" Grahams. Enough is enough.

66 Someone was asking about Southwest Airlines International flights from a past open thread. Here is their announcement in May.
**************************************
"Southwest Airlines, the largest airline for domestic flights nationwide, will begin offering international flights, according to USA Today.
Now that Dallas-based Southwest’s acquisition of AirTran Airways is complete, Southwest will pick up AirTran's flights to Mexico and the Caribbean. It also will get a new reservations system to accommodate the overseas bookings, according to USA Today.
Offering international flights is a big step for Southwest, as it has been successful by focusing on reliable, low-fare service in the U.S. It also signals that Southwest is continuing to compete with the larger airlines such as United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.
Southwest is Sacramento International Airport’s busiest airline, carrying about 52 percent of flights, according to airport data."

80 NASCAR had some WWE action today. Funny.
Jeff Gordon purposefully wrecks Clint Bowyer's car in the final laps -- ruining Bowyer's shot at the championship.

So flaming cars and wrecks. That's normal. What's abnormal is that Bowyer's pit crew bumrushed Gordon when he climbed out of his car and general melee broke out among the pit crews.

NASCAR needs more pit crew brawls.

I know what you mean, J.J.Heath Shuler challenged Pelosi. He lost, but at least he stood for something. We need people that will stand up not just for those voices in Congress, but for the American people. Boehner and McConnell are just establishment Republicans that will never be great leaders.

Too bad Allen West lost. At least he stood for something larger than his own needs and his own power. DWS must be loving this. Too bad Karen Harrington didn't defeat her.

The loss is just astronomically worse than 4 years ago. Even though we knew who SCOAMF was and what he might do, we had yet to live through it. And then with all the special elections and the historic midterms, and the mood of the country, I swore we were going to defeat not just the politicians but the entire leftist movement. It was crushing.

And yes, we really do need someone who will challenge Boehner, no matter the consequences. What's left of the Tea Party movement needs to organize this right now, before this jerk sells us totally down the river.

Petraeus was a shit to cheat on his wife. I don't know her political leaning, but Mrs. P looks like every other middle-aged, liberal woman I know. I first saw them when they came here from the UK in 1973 or 1974. Dad and uncles were in service (one KIA) and my mom and her side survived the camps.

On the whole, it's an excellent series. They don't do any moral equivocation but seem to just present what it was like from both sides fairly even handedly. The segments on the Shoah are excellent (despite Anthony Eden [Lord Avon]) lying that they didn't know about the Final Solution.

Carl Davis' music and Laurence Olivier's narration really turn something excellent into something extraordinary.

You have to understand the mindset of someone with a totalitarian bent.

They do not look at us as merely an opposing worldview to be debated. They look at us as evil that must be destroyed. To even engage in a civil manner would be to admit that we are worthy of such engagement.

Hence, the vitriol, even when they win. They hate us because deep down (or not so deep down) they know that on an equal playing field, in the arena of ideas, their ideology loses every time.

That is why empirical evidence, history and first hand experience are to be dismissed and ridiculed. Right now they are buffoons. But give them enough power and they will become dangerous.

It is inevitable. It has happened too many times in the past - especially in just the last century - to dismiss.

I may be closer to moving to mynext retreat in rural Texas than I realized.

Posted by: Meremortal at November 11, 2012 07:50 PM (1Y+hH)

150 OK, if this is a general purpose thread, here's my purpose of the evening.

I'm in the People's Soviet Socialist Republik of Commiefornia.

Between the coming national level crunch as Barkynomics collapses, and the new liberal Democratic supermajority in the CA legislature slamming the state economy with a tidal wave of new taxes and regulations, I'm figuring that I'm doubly boned if I stay here. If I bug out to a saner state, at least I'm only singly boned.

I'm above water on the mortgage and houses are (or have been till now) selling at a reasonably brisk rate around here. A foreclosure down the block got picked off in 72 hours. I have some cash beyond what I would get from the house sale. I've got a professional degree and some saleable tech skills. I also have self-sufficiency skills. Can work wood, machinery, electrics, plumbing, et cetera.

So my question is, where to GTFO?

I think that Texas has a lot going for it, and that would normally head my list. Except that I noticed on the county-level election maps from this week that there's a stripe of bright blue that starts in the border counties and is working its way steadily north. Trouble brewing. It was not lost on me that the donks had the mayor of San Antonio prominently speaking at the DNC.

TX is conservative now. But CA used to be "Reagan country" and it sure isn't that any longer. I do not want to bail out of one formerly conservative and fiscally responsible state and then find myself stuck in a state that is similarly transitioning away from "former" conservatism. TX looks likely to go that direction based on demographics.

Option 2 is somewhere up in what I've heard called "The Redoubt". That would be the UT/MT/ID/WY zone. Problem there: Colorado's liberal craziness seems to be becoming more deeply embedded and is likely to spread north. Another problem: Barky's EPA will kill the mining/oil/gas business in those states.

Option 3? Abandon the States. That would get me away from a dollar collapse.

What are your GTFO options? Or if you have already bugged out, where did you bug to?

Yeah but how long will this take? We'll be able to borrow for another 3, 4, 5, 10 years before the whole thing collapses. And no matter when it happens, it will still be Bush's fault or the fault of those darned Republicans who only voted to raise the debt to $28 trillion instead of $30 trillion, or the 15 GOP Senators left who didn't vote for the 17th jobs bill introduced in Obama's 3rd term or Iran or Russia or China.

Look at the likes of Paul Krugman. They look at Greece and say the reason it collapsed is because there wasn't ENOUGH borrowing.

Where are the Koch Brothers and Adelson when you really need them to fund a vote fraud whistle-blower reward? The money would have far more impact than giving to the con artists that created substandard ads and pocketed lots of production fees.

I am sure the stupid party will continue its normal path and not push any investigation into voter fraud, but it is a major weakness in the political fabric if it is true. It is bad enough that my fellow citizens voted for TFG, but if the TFG's party cheated as well (multiple votes, illegal votes illegals voting, ballot tampering, etc.) then one has to ask why not just welcome our new socialist overlords because our votes no longer really matter.

170 CA did pass something that surprised me a bit -- they retained the death penalty. Of course, I don't think they've had more than 2 or 3 executions in the last 30 years, but still.

The laughable part of it was the opposition claimed that it cost too much. Yeah, after you and your 200 groups fight each and every possible execution date with endless appeals and lawsuits and protests and etc.

Your argument makes as much sense as murdering your parents and then seeking leniency because you are now an orphan.

I have posted this before

Here is all you need to know about how doing another round of amnesty will go.

It's hard to remember, the GOP used to own California now it's an easy 55 Electoral votes every election cycle

Presidential Voting History for California.

1968 - GOP.
1972 - GOP.
1976 - GOP.
1980 - GOP.
1984 - GOP.
1986 - Simpson/Mazzoli Amnesty Act Passes.
1988 - GOP.
1992 - DEM.
1996 - DEM.
2000 - DEM.
2004 - DEM.
2008 - DEM.
2012 - DEM.

California is now entirely Democrat and will never vote for another GOP Presidential candidate again
because of massive unchecked illegal immigration to that state.

This is the fate that awaits the country if we are stupid enough to

commit suicide but seeing as we have idiots in leadership positions and

within the ranks of the Conservative "intelligentsia" this seems the

likely outcome.

Prior to the election a visiting priest mentioned the President in a homily, "You cannot vote for this man, he is an enemy of the Church!". Today he was back. While lecturing about praying for those who persecute you, you can always pray for them to have a "good and"holy death". Dying in a state of grace, even after a deathbed confession and conversion, would go a long way to helping one on judgement day. It's something to be wished for oneself and even for one's worst enemies.
So, I've added the President to my daily prayers.

Agree. Since I became aware of the political process (since around 10-12 yrs. old) I've never trusted the government, no matter who was in office. But I never feared it because I knew there were "brakes" on the system.

Not any more. And yes, I'm frightened.

I'm old, but I can still aim and pull the trigger if that situation developes. I pray we can correct this awful wrong, but I'm not hopeful. We'll either burn with the dems or we'll go to war against them. It'll be our decision to make.

245 "Current: Moved to rural Colorado mountain town 3 years ago. Next: Acreage
in central west Texas, 20 miles from nearest town of any size

(18,000). Last (hopefully): Have relations in Bahamas, depends on how

things go there in the future, but I have good local information on

conditions."

The "20 miles from town" bit reminds me of Victor Davis Hanson's numerous articles about living on his generations-old family farm in Fresno County of CA.

It used to be a calm, sleepy, polite place where locals didn't lock their doors.

Now, with the Mexican invasion, you had better triple lock those doors. Have an intrusion alarm. And chain down any valuable equipment outside. You can put up a fence, but expect to find a beater car crashed through it every few weeks after drunk-driving illegals crash and then beat feet.

http://www.victorhanson.com/articles/hanson122211.html

Of course, being 20 miles from town means that law enforcement response time essentially is measured in 45 minute long increments. But, since this is Commiefornia, if you were to shoot someone breaking in because you couldn't wait for the sheriff to arrive, you pretty much can expect to be prosecuted for the "crime" of self-defense.

So the lesson is, if you plan to bug out to a rural area, you better make sure it's in a deep red state where you know the local conditions, and where the law will back you up if you can't back down.

The present political course cannot sustain itself and the immediate future does look dim. The United States of America may follow the path of the old USSR into a communist cesspool that will collapse over time as they always do. This will allow for a new America to rise from the ashes.

Then again it may not.

Obama's vision of American socialism will not be palatable even to the Free Stuff crowd when the funds run out as they rapidly will. The Free Stuff crowd will want more and more and not take too kindly to the younger Free Stuff crowd wanting their stuff as they are now the new 1%ers. Let them fight it out and destroy themselves.

Tebow.

His real value is that his entire team plays better when he is in the game, including the defense. As much as we rightfully worship great passers, leadership is a very important quality too. The Jets should try Tebow now, for the same reason he got the chance to take Denver on a nice ride through the end of what would have been a boring, useless season.

Other than a higher draft pick, what do the Jets have to lose?Fans pay good money to be entertained, and Tebow is entertaining and can bring a lot of excitement.A home crowd will get behind him too.Fans relate to Tebow because he's an underdog. The expectation of the elite is that he will fail. Americans love to root for the underdog.

329 "We still are looking at VA, GA, Gulf Coast of FL."

Virginia looks to be steadily more corrupted by the filthy lucre from the Imperial Capital to the north, which is steadily sucking the financial lifeblood out of the rest of the nation. For some reason, people who make their livings off of government associated enterprises tend to vote for more and more government. Go figure.

It's a shame because Virginia used to be an excellent place.

Problem with the Gulf Coast of FL is, well, being stuck in the same state with the Atlantic Coast of FL.

342 My husband and I are thinking Pennsy - which we love! - just is overfull of retirees, gov't workers, and welfare types. The private sector here is a pretty small percentage (unless you count hospitals and pharmas which I kind of don't. they're gov't clients too now)

I don't think the state has much of a future UNLESS the fracking continues apace! but I'm not in that particular field . . .

Anyway we are thinking AZ most likely. If we stay in the US. Fredericksburg TX I've heard is nice. I used to live in Louisiana and have a soft spot for the state - could do. But I love the desert! We have friends and family in AZ so that seems the best choice.

349 #150 My state, Indiana, is a good choice. GOP governor (Mike Pence) and legislature.

Good points: Change of seasons but weather isn't usually as brutal as Texas summers or Idaho winters. Right to work state. Good universities. Indianapolis is a nice city, pretty and very lush with lots of trees. Stealth state that libs forget about because we are overshadowed by evil Illinois. Housing prices are lower than the coasts, so you could probably get a swell place for much less than you imagine. Most communities are family oriented.

Bad points: Northern half of the state is flatland and pretty unscenic. Outside of Indianapolis and Bloomington (home of IU) there isn't much in the way of cultural attractions. No mountains or skiing. No water except some large reservoirs and the top of lake Michigan which is surrounded by horrible Gary.

You might give Indiana a look. It's a very calm place to live.

Even a severe hurricane is a relative non-event if you've build a concrete dome house and a generator. Ivan rolled right over one up in the panhandle on the beach and it was impervious. 362 Good evening.

Stopping in with some bluray deals so if you're feeling the urge to get some good teevee watchin' and supportin' your local ewok at the same time, well, here ya go.

http://www.blu-ray.com/deals/?ref=0

Items of note!

The Walking Dead season 1 bluray set for $18 bucks. Mind you this is the original stripped down release with only two discs and fewer special features than the later Special Edition release. Note, also, the standard DVD for $15 bucks. Season two is on sale for $33.

Sin City for $7 bucks on blu, comes with both theatrical and "recut" versions. Great movie. Awesome style. Haven't seen the extended cut yet but the theatrical cut blew my mind.

Toy Story trilogy set for $50 bucks. By the by, the guy who wrote Toy Story 3 is writing the screenplay for Star Wars VII. Kewl.

Source Code for $8. AWESOME movie! Highly recommended.

Batman: Year One for $10. Based on the Frank Miller and David Mazuchelli story, which I love dearly. Haven't seen the animated feature, but, dude, ten bucks on blu? Don't pass on it!

Doctor Who season five for $24 bucks. Cause I know we got tons of Who fans here.

Band Of Brothers for $35. BAND OF BROTHERS FOR $35! You know you want it.

AAANNNDDDD The Indiana Jones bluray set is still on sale for just $50 bucks!

Lots of other notable deals on blu as well such as the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies, Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, The Pacific and...HOLY SHIT! Looney Tunes Platinum Collection for $25 bucks!

Get 'em while they're hot, 'Rons, and get Ace some beer money.

384 Seeing that gorgeous TampaBay Bucs cheerleader in the football thread today reminded me of an awesome day...

The wife I went to "Taste of Pinellas Fair" in July 2001 (Pinellas is one of the counties that comprise TampaBay.) It is a chance for restaurants, grilles, stands, cooks to show their wares, some nice eats, for sure!

So there we were, I was carrying my adorable 1-year old daughter on my arm, we were walking from one stand to another, when, "off in the distance" about 40 yards away I saw a gold, maroon and black vision approaching us...Cdn't quite believe my eyes...It was a group of 7-8 Tampa Bay Bucs cheerleaders walking right towards us. In their short-skirt uniforms.

As they got closer...they stopped. And started to talk to us. They thought our lil girl was soooooo cute...I was surrounded.

My gawd, my gaaaawwwd, they were gorgeous. Blonde, brunette, black, cinnamon, latin, asian, you name it. You see how pretty they look on TV? Right up close they are even more impressive. Close enough to, uhhh, hug.

You can imagine the challenge I faced to keep from drooling and hanging my jaw open in front of Mrs. Odysseus, but I did it. At least I did my best. Course, she is one hot lil mama herself, which helps.

You don't tend to forget an experience like that, even if it last for only 3-4 minutes.

Ohh, the food at the fair was excellent, too.

I was searching prepper stuff earlier and came upon an interesting tidbit:

Remember that story a couple of weeks ago about the man who couldn't fly back from Hawaii because he was on a no-fly list? Story goes he was a prepper, attended prepper mtgs in MS and followed a suspicious man who claimed to be a disabled SEAL after a mtg, not to his home but to a branch office of homeland security. He used the freedom of info to find out the man never served in military.
Story claims he was targeted for being too preppy.
Not my story. Just out there.

440 #371 Yes, but as you can see, a couple of people FORGOT about us.

There are more self-reliant people here than you know. Just like the state, they keep a low profile.

I want some immigrants to balance the Californians who settled here when United was opening a maintenance facility. Those were all union people and the ones across the street from me are Obama voters plus they support every irritating referendum, such as raising property taxes in our school district and creating a town out of our suburban area (more government and taxes, which I do not support).

However, I am a native and probably biased, so take my comments in that spirit.

First it comes in this bright red and black backpack. So much for being low-key.

The 24 servings of food. I now have food to give away to refugees. Try 4 bricks of food vacuum packed. Each brick can be broken into six pieces. Or I could use the pieces in a slingshot to hunt real food.

The windup LED flashlight/radio/USB charger. During the recent power outage I had, the charge handle managed to break.

This is the reason I prefer secession. At least, in the course of events that we do have a hot civil war, the battle lines will be semi-distinct. Otherwise we won't be able to trust anyone. And when there's no trust in anyone, anarchy prevails.

Anarchy is the worst that could happen. We just think a civil war would be bloody.

494 Sometime next year they MSM and the Dem congresscritters, probably
one of the CBC, will float the idea of repealing the two term limit.

Can't happen with the current political divide in the country. 2/3 of the states would never agree to a convention, and the other avanue, 2/3 of the House proposing it wouldn't happen. 3/4 of the states would never ratify either.

The most likely scenario would be for Obama to simply declare a national emergency and suspend elections for the duration.

The problem with jiggering the machines is someone can examine the code and find the fraud.

There's a reason why the Dems pushed hard for paper ballots, and it had nothing to do with the vaunted "paper trail", and everything to do with facilitating fraud.

With electronic fraud, you're putting all your eggs in one basket. With the paper ballots, there's a half dozen different methods of fraud you can employ.

516 Collector coins? Do you expect a teeny-weeny bit of shit to hit the fan?
Collector coins only have value if you have access to the market of likely buyers. Among people you're likely to meet during a furious uproar, there won't be many knowledgeable buyers. Regular folks will be wise to challenge the authenticity of your wares.

For survivalism, you'll want fairly small gold coins (easier to authenticate than silver), and old real-silver US denominated coins, a known quantity. It's a little late to get good deals on any of that, though.

Rare stamps and coins are useful for smuggling value past borders. That's it.

I look for an uptick in mass shootings by 'mentally unstable' people - probably people who shouldn't be able to pass a NICS check...yet somehow do. Of course, we won't know that they shouldn't have passed a NICS check, and, if there are any 'outraged FBI agents', of course they won't say anything until it is too late.
A couple of those and the calls for gun control will get louder. And the spineless Republican leadership will cave.
Bumps in the road, eggs and omelets and all of that.
Then, shutdown talk radio (for spreading hate messages), and the internet for security reasons due to a rash of 'cyberattacks'.
Thismakes it easier to move in and seize weapons. Once the weapons are gone, we are effectively chattel. They can do whatever they wish to us.Well, they can try, rather.
There is NOTHING this administration will not do. Any means will be used to reach their ends.

Great post in sidebar. My mother was born in Uruguay, but became a naturalized U.S. citizen in the mid-1980s. I was born in Peru and spent my early youth in Latin America. (My dad was an American in Latin America in the oil business, where he met my mom.)

If the GOP thinks amnesty is a good thing on the merits, then support it, but if they think it will convert a single Hispanic voter to the GOP, they are living in a fantasy world.

My whole life I've heard "Hispanics are natural Republicans" (whatever that means). What a joke. Have you seen the governments Latin Americans elect for themselves? Partially. Low wages are a sign that money isn't being cycled quickly. Low wages = low consumer spending = not much acceleration.

Credit is a bigger sign of the same. Credit is, in the Austrian school, the 800 lbs gorilla. If credit rises significantly then the multiplier goes into effect and amplifies the acceleration.

I agree. Went over to Dad's for dinner last night. Of course politics came up. We are both conservatives but he was getting really worked up. He was saying how the congress can do this and that. Ge us still under the belief that congress cares about our Country.

572 Sometimes I read the website Reason, and i browse the comments. It seems to be a contest on who can make the most ironic and obscure references, cite the most arcane line of argument, inside jokes, and a lot of penis-sword fighting about who is libertarian-er than who.

Without a shared belief in the Constitution, there is literally nothing protecting any of us (including leftists) right now except quite a lot of inertia. Maybe they'll be benevolent, maybe they won't.

Given my read of his psychology, he's more than his usual cocky right now. He's jazzed to get on with his "transformational change". External pressures, such as foreign events, are what's left to keep him in check. So I'd considered him emboldened, looking at no constraints he can't handle.

617 Libertarians (libertarians...libertarians)...are shallow (shallow...shallow)...

See how much this place sounds like an echo chamber, with the reverb turned up?

Look, there are conservative and liberal wings to libertarianism, just as there are big-state and small-state conservatives. Saying otherwise is just using an excuse to ignore them. And an awful lot of conservative l's have left the big-L party, starting in the late 70's -- not to mention the false-flag operatives of 2008. Guess they fooled some here.

For those who can remember the 1960's (see, that's a libertarian joke), the ancien-regime conservatives we had then, in both parties (!) were just the biggest assholes in history, when it came to bringing along a next generation or making a convert. They were, through and through, what a few have been sounding off on for the last few days: no hope for the future, our best days were over, and that god-damned Oswald Spengler (the real one, not the blogger).

Libertarians have made terrific gains in 40 years, by changing conservatism. About 3/4 of the tea party activists, and maybe half of the GOP, believe in conservative principles that were forgotten until the libertarian movement stuck its head up. Drugs or no drugs, gold or no gold, like it or not (hell, admit it or not), we are all libertarians now. That doesn't mean we have to swap spit in a warm shower.

BH, could not agree more about Reason, its works and its ways. But that magazine was enamored of its own avant-garderie back when Rolling Stone was still about music.

One here, organized by our local tea party, has a set up where if you need a roofer but he doesn't need your service, you can coordinate through another. ie do landscaping for the plumber for the roofer.

A lot of things we'd both think of first a conservative gains: gun issues (yes, things are edgy, but we've been in the ascendant since Mid-Clinton), concern for the budget and debt, monetary stability, worry over aggressive regulation and business-crushing. Those are libertarian issues, too. Now, we're not winning on most of those, but 40-some years ago, they hardly surfaced as GOP issues.

No, not libertarian victories, but libertarian gains, in that normal people now agree that those are things worth fighting about.

682 Thanks, comatus, valid points. They don't answer the question, though, which is what gains have we seen _in the last few years_, not since the 1960's. The answer you're suggesting is that Libertarians are really playing the long game,so it's a matter of perspective, and the question doesn't really apply.

683 jewells, first let me bore you with a story. Because I'm a Certified Instructor!
Before there was the .38 Special, there was the .38 Police Positive, and some other cartridges called .38, including a rimfire. You won't see them in a regular sale catalog, but if you go into a "real" ammo shop and ask for .38, and if the counter help is either pretty dumb or a smartass, you could get one of those. And how do I know this? Hmm...

Here's the thing, all modern firearms have their ammunition type stamped on them. If it says .38Spl but does not say +P or +P+, you'd want to show that piece to a real gunsmith for a reference, and probably, it's No. Same with ammo boxes: by convention and law, they have to conform to the same nomenclatures. Just read the box carefully, and don't be like me. If your pistol says .38Spl, and the box has any other words or symbols, ask the person in charge for help in deciphering.

If you are fortunate enough to fall into a pistol that is older than the modern marking system, you'll want to see a gunsmith anyway to make sure it's safe to fire. Keep a notebook of what advice you get, what brands and loads you've tried, and what you thought of the results. You get smart fast doing that.

I mean for target practice I know to use the cheaper shit but a 38 is a 38 right? There are so many brands I don't know whats good and what isn't. Any ideas?Posted by: jewells45 at November 11, 2012 10:14 PM (1hNQS) Most .38 ammo will work. Self defense ammo is loaded with more power and is +p or ++p but should be fine. Don't buy '.380 auto', .380, or .380acp - those won't work in your revolver because they are meant for semi-automatic. Also, you need a long gun - either a rifle or a shotgun.

692 I agree Cowboy. Nobody's making great strides right now, no matter how you call 'em. I'll give you this one, to chew on: even though there is a lot more quick-entry takedown police work being done, it's getting riskier for an agency or a cop in a bad mood to just roll over someone. Part of that is technology, sure, but several decades ago hardly any conservative would see any problem with that. Now there is a big stink whenever some grandma gets roughed up or riddled with bullets by our own government.

Does some of the defense get as silly as an ACLU case? Are some of the defenses of guilty-as-hell drug dealers or wannabe terrorists? You bet, but we have always gone apeshit in this nation. I sure don't think that cops have gotten worse as moral actors (I do suspect that agencies have), but no-knocks and knockdowns are an issue now; I have it from some old cop friends that they did not used to be.

That's not a lot, but it's something, especially if it's your door that gets broken.

People at opposite ends of the spectrum often have common goals. Both commies and looney-type libertarians want to collapse the Republic in the belief they'll get to shape what follows to their liking.

Posted by: epobirs at November 12, 2012 12:01 AM (kcfmt)

698 150 OK, if this is a general purpose thread, here's my purpose of the evening.

Mrs. Redneque and I are planning on leaving Fla for - wait for it - Oiho next summer. I have been talking to management about transferring and taking over one of our sites in the boonies where nobody else wants to go. We used to live out in the country there and absolutely loved it.

If you watch where you go there's gas in the ground and Amish all around. I figure there's some survival skilz there we can take advantage of. And natural gas to power my truck and tractor and fridge and dryer and furnace and probably a generator.

If I can talk the Mrs. into doing most of what I want, we'll get a calf each spring and lots of grass-fed beef in the fall, some chickens for eggs and, well, chicken, we know some people out there who raise and sell goats, and space for some crops.

700 Speaking of being prepared, I once asked several of the Indians I worked with (dot, not feather) why they constantly bought jewelry for their wives. Seems in some parts of India it's become a cultural thing. Bracelets and necklaces are easily mobile. Bullion, not quite so much. So out of cultural habit they stocked up on mobile gold.

Wish I had done that back when gold was what, $200-$300 an ounce.
