Embedded: Petraeus Was Screwing His Biographer; Claim Made She Was Trying to Access His Emails

The woman with whom Gen. David Petraeus was having an affair is Paula Broadwell, the author of a recent hagiographic book about him, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus. Petraeus resigned as CIA director on Friday, citing the affair.A tweet from "Breaking News" (no idea who this is) says:
Breaking News @BreakingNews FBI investigating Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell for improperly trying to access his email, officials tell @NBCNewsSo, is she hot? Ehhh... Got somethin'. Here she is, talking about her book about Petraeus, called, yes, All In. You know, if you watch that interview, she does actually sound like she's having sex with him. It's a very "we did this, we did that" sort of thing. She sounds like she's talking about her boyfriend. Corrected: I changed the email thing to a "claim," and dropped the claim that she was trying to get into his classified email. The claim doesn't even say that. However, given that he's head of the CIA, all of his email would be classified, it seems to me. More: Apparently she is suspected of attempting to access classified emails. Like I said, I assume all of his emails are classified.
The biographer for resigning CIA Director David Petraeus is under FBI investigation for improperly trying to access his email and possibly gaining access to classified information, law enforcement officials told NBC News on Friday.But they say they do not expect the investigation to end in criminal charges. Huh?

The timing is a little odd, especially in light of the rumors that Secretary of Defense Leon Paneta is tired of flying at taxpayer expense every weekend to his California home and plans on resigning, and Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State is resigning. My only question is which job John Kerry plans on filling since he’s been leaning towards all three jobs over the past four years.

There are people who latch onto slightly improbable things and inflate them. Like five people end up in court who don't know each other but had the same third-grade teacher.
But there are also improbable coincidences, like someone resigning from heading an agency intimately tied into a major government clusterfuck days before hearings for a completely unrelated reason but in a way that discredits or prevents testimony.

There were some things she said at her book signingthat in retrospect kind of give away that there might have been something going on. The way she described him, it was kind of like how someone describes a person they have a crush on. She was a little too proud of him. Eh, its hard to describe and I may be imagining it in retrospect.

I'd say the odds of him exposing anything are zero. The CIA timeline he released was total ass-covering, and now that he's resigned in disgrace he has to salvage something.
My bet is he says the CIA and Obama did everything they could, and Obama showed incredible support, courage, and coolness.

I'm not putting my hopes in Petraeus. I predict Issa will pursue Benghazigate for a while, and then it'll go away.
The good news (which is actually bad news) is that Obama is so drunk with power now and so arrogant he's going to make some catastrophic error that not even the media will be able to protect him from. What's most likely is that he'll pursue through executive orders the most draconian, punitive regulatory agenda in the western world.
That'll wake people up.

In the law they call this "impeaching the witness". You try and discredit the witness in some way in order to undermine their credibility.
Hubby found messages on her computer and reported it. FBI looked through his emails and confirmed affair. She tells hubby she broke it off and he is still emailing her.
Admin knows all this and sits on it. Then Benghazi happens. Patraeus starts leaking to the press, but only Fox goes with it.
They do not want to draw attention to Benghazi before the election. They sit on it until after the election.
Then they demand his resignation, tell him what to write. They get rid of him, he won't testify. Even if he testifies or tries to leak to the press, the administration strikes first.
They leak to Slate and NBC (both VERY friendly to the administration) details of the affair and emails in an attempt to make him sound like an unstable nutter. He is no good as a witness now. Now he is a liar with terrible judgement, and no one will believe him.
It is not blackmail, they are impeaching the witness. Doing a nice job too.

In 1992 I applied for a job at the CIA. It was pretty exciting. They told me it would be a two-stage process. The first stage was attending a fake conference at a hotel in San Francisco. They had a sign outside the room identifying it as the meeting place for a nonexistent corporation. Very cloak-and-dagger.
The guy who did the briefing looked and sounded exactly like Tim Reid of the TV show WKRP in Cincinnati. My girlfriend applied, too. We were both multilingual, had lived overseas most of our lives, and were knowledgeable about military history and geopolitics.
What made it all real was that there was a big board at the front of the room that showed the four directorates of the CIA: Intelligence, Support, Science and Technology, and Operations (now known as Clandestine Services).
Three of the directorates had full descriptions of their duties, but Operations was blank. "You don't get to learn about Operations until after you're a part of the Company," Tim Reid said.
We made it through the first interview but voluntarily screened ourselves out because the CIA doesn't take recovering alcoholics. Before we learned this, they told us that the next step would be to fly us to Langley to give us a two-day lie-detector examination.
That was just for twerpy applicants like me, but it was 1992. Though you'd think they'd have a better screening process for the head of the CIA, it could be more evidence of how corrupt and rotten all our institutions have become. It's no longer 1992, is it?
We've been worse off before, so I have no doubt we'll improve. But we're in for some very rough times, I think.

There is the SIPRNET for classified up to secret e-mail.
There is JWICS for classified up to Top Secret and SCI.
It is up to Petraeus to use the appropriate system depending on what he is e-mailing.
