CAC Rule #1 Still Holds

RULE #1
EVERY TIME THE WHITE HOUSE HAS FLIPPED, THE WINNING PARTY SNAGS A STATE IT FAILED TO GRAB THE LAST TIME THEY FLIPPED IT. Those states may have been new to the union, or the demographics simply changed, which is the case since the 1960's. But the winning party in a flip always, without fail, gains states.

Republicans' first flip from the Democrats: 1860
Democrats' first flip from the Republicans: 1884

White House Flips since 1884:
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1888 back to R: NE,CO,KS
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1892 back to D: CA,WI,IL
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1896 back to R: ND,KY,WV,MD,DE,NJ,CT
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1912 back to D: OR,NV,AZ,NM,OK,CO,ID,MT,WY,ND,IA,OH,ME,MA,RI,NH
1920 back to R: MO,TN,OK,KS,NE,SD,MT,ID,WY,UT,CO,NV,AZ,NM,WA
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1932 back to D: WA,UT,MN,CA,SD
1952 back to R: FL,TX,VA
1960 back to D: PA,DE,CT,HI
1968 back to R: NC,SC,AK
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1976 back to D: WI,OH,KY,TN,FL
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1980 back to R: WA,MI,TX,PA,NY,CT,MA,ME
INCUMBENT DEFEATED* 1992 back to D: MT,WA,OR,NV,CA,CO,NM,IA,IL,MI,NJ,CT,VT,NH,ME
2000 back to R: WV,GA
2008 back to D: IN,NC,FL,VA,NE2

Note: this rule holds before the 1860s, but parties and party status changed from 1796 thru 1856, so we are focusing on the last 150 years with the modern parties.

When it was clear not a single Gore state was breaking Romney's way on Tuesday night, it was as clear an indicator as the nasty numbers in Virginia and Florida.
So memorize the map below, and unless the R candidate is ahead or even slightly favored in one of these, stock up on whiskey for another nasty November night:

2 All the talk from Sean Hannity and others that Obama ran a nasty campaign is true BUT there is no reason not to emulate that strategy. Wisconsin is close.

I am surprised that New Mexico wasn't closer.

But again, the "generic Republican" starts off with a huge handicap when we know that New York, California, Illinois and a half dozen other states are not even close to being in play.
There is no clear cut answer, really. It's already been said a thousand times in the last few days of self-flagellation, but the adversary is not just the Democrats, but prevalent aspects of popular culture, the bullshit news media, and the educational establishment.

The only way for the FSA to get beaten is total destruction of the economy and it is coming soon to a city near you. The Dems have mastered the art of pushing the right FSA buttons and delivering (using our money in a classic Ju-Jitsu move), and no late-comer Repub can survive the training required to do this with skill and ease yet still look at themselves in a mirror.

Virginia may actually be a lost cause. It's the growth of the suburbs in Northern VA that are all on the government tit, or are working as contractors, or for beltway bandits that profit from big government.

Mitt made a subtle bid for the votes in Norfolk and Hampton Roads area when he spoke about the need for a bigger Navy. That's the epicenter of most military naval construction. And he still lost the state.

And Flor-i-duh, who knows? It is a state full of knaves and jackasses, much like my home in Ohio. Or Oiho. Whatever.

24 What is the intersection of this set with states that will have had two-term Republican Governors by 2016 (hopefully). Is it Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania?

I think those 4 states are all states we should continue to hope on winning back. What this election really reminds is that the midterm election voters and races are very different than Presidential year races.

We need to focus on having winning ideas in the next four years, and winning charismatic candidates for the two years of 2014 and 2016. The battle of ideas sets where the demarcation line falls on the political spectrum between the two parties, but is really really takes a great candidate and campaign to pull a solid majority of the American people across that line and over to your side.

42 So I hate to bust the meme that "the GOP didn't turn out" that everyone is having such fun with. But it isn't true in Florida.

Romney matched McCains numbers in every county, except 4. In some counties, such as Sarasota and Seminole, he CRUSHED McCains numbers. Up 210% and 196% respectively.

Where the election was lost was in 4 counties. Miami-Dade, Santa Rosa, St. Johns, and St. Lucie.

Dade he was at 92% (29,900 votes)
Santa Rosa 84%
St. Johns 76%
St. Lucie 53%

Romney got HALF of McCain's votes in St. Lucie. Note that is also Alan West's new district.

This was not a broad drop off. It was a drop off in 4 counties only.

Pay no attention to the paper pushers behind the curtain!!

This is part of the secret to Dem success in Maryland and Norther Virginia. A vast and growing army of government employees. And this is another underlying price for Obamacare. A new legion of government employees who will be replacing private employees in insurance companies, doing the same work at GS-12 or GS-wages, and loyal Democrats.

Some might think the game is rigged.

Have to tell you that I may not be around for "another nasty November night".

Thinking seriously of liquidating my assets and leaving. This just doesn't feel like the country I grew up in.

Let's talk for a second about what the act of leaving entails. Here's the person that some other country gets to have as a resident and contributor if I do go:

-- The worst criminal charges I've ever faced have been traffic tickets and overdue library books.

-- I've paid far, far, far more into government in taxes, at all levels, than I will ever be repaid in benefits.

-- I'm a pleasant, courteous, community-minded person who picks up trash that's not mine. I hold doors for strangers. Strangers of all races. I apply the "content of character" test to anyone of an ethnicity different from my own. I say "Please" and "Thank you." I rescue stray animals. I donate regularly to charities. I read books rather than watching trashy television.

-- I'm the sort of person who my neighbors all say they adore living next to.

-- I'm a multiply degreed STEM professional.

Apparently this stuff isn't valued in America any longer. And I am absolutely fucking sick of living in a country where I am called a racist for criticizing a black officeholder, even when said critique is having only to do with his conduct in that office.

Just will not take that shit any longer.

78 We're not turning any of those states, and it won't make any difference how bad the economy gets, all you need to do is look at California, Illinois, New York, etc. to see that. We just need to run a conservative that will forget about alienating voters and start being brutally honest. We're going to lose, but we're going to lose even if we run a moderate.
We have to look at ourselves as what we are, a minority voice speaking out on the dangers of socialism. We aren't a major political movement anymore, we're a resistance movement.

After that? All bets are off as to who takes power, but it will NOT be the current overpowering Dem Cabal...

Not sure of that. Being a reluctant resident of CA, I can tell you the parasite class is fat and thriving here. Also, completely economic illiterate.

However, one thing does make your prediction more likely. The Dems won supermajorities in both houses and can therefore raise any and all taxes without a vote of the electorate. This is in addition to Prop 30 that hiked our taxes to astronomical levels.

These people are going to go crazy, raising all the taxes they've been denied since Prop 13. And it still won't be enough.

Nobody is going to like it. Guaranteed.

This was not just a single circumstance either. Just weird stuff like reporting 100% in and later in the day all the vote numbers change. Is that normal? I do not know how to link these so my apologies but I have to put something here to show what I am talking about.

******
Hannity.....BLECH!

You've "evolved," huh? Going to fall for that
ol' Lucy football trick by demanding enforcement before amnesty. HOW
THE F*K did that work out for Reagan?

Hannity sits behind
high-income safety gates in an exclusive neighborhood....."I've been
blessed," he says over and over and over again. Went on a border tour
once and thinks he's now an expert.

Live in So. Cal, pal! See
the extremely young pregnant moms with 4 other young kids in tow hoofing
it to the free clinics put up in local communities. See them in line at
the grocery store with their WIC and EBT cards. Yeah, conservatives in
the making, all.

Why the certainty of Republicans that Latinos
will be conservative? Because they go to Mass. They are part of the
Catholic Church, so they must be conservative. B-fucking-S! The Catholic
Church, especially in Mexico, is all about redistribution. And repubs
think amnesty is their winning ticket? Wrong, yet again. It's all about
free stuff. Add amnesty and you have free stuff in the millions.

Hannity, you are a fool.

102 Ok, fixed the problem.

Florida was lost on 1 county, Miami-Dade.

Romney's vote total matched McCain's in all other counties, and even exceeded them in many.

And according to the exit polls, Independents favored Obama slightly in Florida.

So Romney turned out Florida, and only one county doesn't match the rest.

Miami-Dade.

114 concur Peaches and Jewells45; I keep looking at the Romney pres website for a masochistic peek at what might have been, sigh.

"All the talk from Sean Hannity and others that Obama ran a nasty
campaign is true BUT there is no reason not to emulate that strategy. In
Canada our prime minister defines any new opponent early with a wave of
attack ads. It works beautifully and I'm not embarrassed about it.
Victory is what's important. You can be a nice loser but you're still a
fucking loser. Take off the god damned gloves next time this is politics
not make nice."

Completely agree. I thought America was still a country that wants the nice guy to win; I kept hoping the obviously ridic attacks on the character of Romney and republicans, the blatant water carrying and news hiding by the MSM, the vapid celebs tweeting vile anti-mormon stuff, etc, would turn people off, but it apparently didn't. Obama's campaign was truly vile. I don't want us to go THAT far, but we certainly need to hit back, and hit hard, against everything from now on. Reid has proven that once you say something enough times, people start to believe it, even obvious lies.

She's a manager or accountant or something for a local hotel. Not really sure. From what I gather, they're just downsizing and cutting a few higher-paid office folks...

I'm sure Obamacare has nothing do with it...it was a time-traveling George Bush.

Multiply her by about twenty million others by the end of this year.

Businesses really are realizing they are under the gun with the Obamacare mandate.

Most businesses in America are small ones. That can't afford to provide gold-plated Obamacare benefits. But if they have more than 50 employees, the benefits are mandatory.

They'll cut and cut to make that 50 mark. They HAVE to.

173 I have a lot more to look at here, getting all the information in and sifted will take days.

But Florida did turnout for Romney. The lowest significant drop is 97% of McCain's numbers and those are about 2,000 votes in that county. He increased on McCain's numbers in every county. I'm seeing lots of 2, 3, and 4 thousand vote increases.

It all falls apart with Miami-Dade. Romney drops 30,000 from 2008 and Obama jumps 40,000 from 2008. 70,000 vote swing and wipes out all of the gains in the rest of the state. Obama's increase there was also his highest in the state.

The "GOP didn't turn out" meme is valid for Miami-Dade only, not for Florida.

I'm going to guess that Florida is going D because of demographics, not because the Rs sat on their fannies.

194 <<No fucking clue what's coming.>>

That's because they're clueless...

...since we're discussing impending economic doom (due to the re-election), I can relate two stories.

1) My wife was told a few months ago that she was due for a promotion and certainly deserved one, but was told in no uncertain terms that the company had put all promotions, hirings and expansions on hold pending the outcome of the election (her boss then told her off the record that they were waiting to see if Obama was re-elected, because if so, all those freezes would remain in place.)

2) I live near the world's largest industrial park just outside of Reno, NV. Since it was constructed, all kinds of major corporations have set up shop there, but the expansion (of new companies setting up warehouses and distributorships) practically ground to a halt in 2009. A couple of months ago I spoke with the man who is president of the company that owns all the land the Industrial Park is on. He told me (again, off the record) that there were about thirty major companies waiting the outcome of the election, and if Obama were re-elected, those companies would decide not to set up shop at the Industrial Park. I asked him what kind of companies they were and he chuckled and said he couldn't be specific, but he lowered his voice and said "Big ones...companies every person in the world recognizes." I asked him, "And they won't come in if Obama's elected?" He answered, "They're hoping for the repeal of Obamacare and the extension of the bush tax cuts. If those things don't happen, they can't expand."

Posted by: Sgt. York at November 08, 2012 11:17 PM (Nd+32)

195 We would be accused of sore loser-dom and racism forever if we did this, but could a candidate, if a wave of voter fraud comes to light, unconcede and demand a recount? Denounce me if you must, but I keep wondering. Or I'm still just in major denial that Romney lost, even if it was super close.

Posted by: LizLem at November 08, 2012 11:20 PM (8wqqE)

196 I simply cannot stress how many states have been over a day with 100% reported yet their numbers continue to change. I took screen shots and completed a worksheet and then started a new one just so I would have the records for it.

Screen shots that show that Romney's vote totals will go DOWN in a later time stamp and really crazy stuff. I tried to get another blog to take a look at it because I had everything you can throw in there for President, Governor, House and Senate and also plugged in the numbers for 2008.

Theses are all state by state races and what I see is that where there are at least a majority of R's in that state's house membership is where all the focus by Romney should have been made. Do you have any idea how many Hispanics represent the R party in the House for many, many states?

That was certainly a lost opportunity.

I noticed that some house races that the R supposedly lost are by just a very few votes with many more votes left to count than what the spread is between the two candidates.

Something foul is happening.

Posted by: jlfintx at November 08, 2012 11:54 PM (Wnk4X)

197 Sorry, just one other thing I am seeing is some states that are not complete but their numbers have not changed in about 36 hours? WTH? Of course these are blue states, naturally.

Posted by: jlfintx at November 08, 2012 11:58 PM (Wnk4X)

198 Here is yet one more. NV showed 98.5% votes counted about 24 hours ago and now says 100% counted but not one singled number changed with that last 1.5% counted.

How can you have 1,011,105 votes and have no additional votes tallied with 1.5% of those votes. I should see another 15,000 votes allocated somewhere?

on and on and on

Posted by: jlfintx at November 09, 2012 12:11 AM (Wnk4X)

199 here is my theory on the votes going DOWN as the count gets closer to 100%. Votes were counted for a candidate to put him over the top by using an illegal ballot that the people committing fraud thought would not actually show up and when they did, they had to reduce the vote totals because they knew it would show that the total votes cast were more than could be possible or believable.

Posted by: jlfintx at November 09, 2012 12:22 AM (Wnk4X)

200 here is another new twist. For instance, a state that showed 99.8 percent counted before yet now shows 98.5 counted. Does anyone hear me?

Posted by: jlfintx at November 09, 2012 12:24 AM (Wnk4X)

201 jlfintx

Yes, I'd like to see these types of things looked into. If it indeed is not a result of foul play then that should be established. It seems the larger blogs and what not stay away from questioning the count for fear of being labelled bitter-clingers, but people need to have faith in our electoral process.

I still need someone to explain to me just how Romney failed to even match McCain's '08 total. Unless someone can give an acceptable scenario as to how that happened, I'll continue to think these results fraudulent.

Posted by: november1981 at November 09, 2012 12:53 AM (Z6XSF)

202 Do we have enough of a surplus in the Dakotas to force some into relocation camps in Iowa and Wisconsin?

Both Dakotas together have like 16 people total.

Illinois has more than enough republicans to flip Wisconsin or Michigan, if you could convince them all to give up and move.
