Unexpectedly: Stocks Suffer Heavy Losses Second Straight Day After Election;
Analysts Baffled

I can't figure this Mystery out.

Can you?

The markets took heavy losses for a second day in a row Thursday in a broad-based retreat late in the session. Every major sector closed to the downside.

According to preliminary calculations, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 121 points, or 0.93%, to 12812, the S&P 500 dipped 17 points, or 1.2%, to 1378 and the Nasdaq Composite slumped 41.7 points, or 1.4%, to 2896.

The S&P 500, considered one of the best barometers of U.S. equities, tumbled 2.4% on Wednesday in its worst day on a percent basis since June. The losses added up in late trading on Thursday as well, with the S&P sinking 1.2%.

Troll Busting: Thank you for letting me know about the Stormfront invasion. I've been busily feeding hashes into the Trollbuster, but just realized it's currently not working. Usually it trollbusts immediately.

I've put into Pixy for the IPs to be banned. This takes longer.

27 Obama Job approve/dis 49-44 (down 1 from yesterday).

Watching this fall is going to be so much fun. This was a turnout election, where a great number of would-be voters didn't vote because they were scared out of voting for Romney. They still hated Obama though, and still do.

He won with 51% of the VOTE, but he doesn't have 51% of the people's support.

They won because they got their base to the polls. We didn't.

29 Ace

Let's be honest .... Obama won because the media and demorats use social issues , culture to win over most democrats states , 2/3 of then have a 75% and over white population and the vote aginst their ecomnic interests.

Hispanics and black population are concentrated in red states, so the larger they have gotten , ( mostly Hispanic) the more the are turning former red states blue... First California, Nevada, New Mexcio, Floirda, Virginia, next Arizona, Texas

The way democrats win then is by naked appeals to tribe and race...".. This appeal -- appeal to one's tribe -- is powerful. It's also racist, and divisive, and promotes an Us vs. Them mentality... all those things which are terrible if a Republican even hints at it."

And giving amnesty to the 15 million illegals isn't going to win over Hispanic , they have become like blacks ... Comfortable with a big fat corrput welfare government It's not like they learned anything from the countries they leave in desperation for a decent living that are big, fat, corrupt socialist countries.

Romney who's a honest , decent man... Thought I wouldn't play the nake appeal to race, us vs them, under the radar the way democrats do.....Especially in Ohio, 80% white.... He thought ! the ecomny., jobs, a ecomnic future for that will stop us from becoming to Greece, citizens have to care they leave a viable nation to their children or for themselves.

Sorry, whites in blue states care more about abortion that would never be outlawed in their state.... Or to feel socially insink with the media culture.

And all these white fools Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Michigan, and other states like Oregon, and Connecticut.... Who at least 51 % should have woken up.... Wouldn't until it's too late and they realize voting for silly culture issues that would never effect their lives or become laws in the states...... Wasn't worth fiscal suicide.

One other piont, if republicans message that didn't connect with voters then with are 30 as of this election run by Repiblcan Governor's or his the House still republicans.... Because the closer to the vote the more they vote on what actually effects them, taxes, fiscual issues, ecomny.... And not storied issues the media invented.

Yes. In exchange for a hard debt ceiling that will be announced when the deal is done. Make it explicit and frame it as any tax increase should go towards what we spend. No mas. The GOP cannot be seen as the ones holding the knife.
We'll hit it soon and point to Obama agreeing to it at the time. Make them make choices to who in thier coalition gets paid off. The problem with the dems is they are all paid mercenaries looking for freebies. What happens to a bunch of mercs when the money runs out?

120 I've been investing for the past two years and recently only on the Toronto Stock Exchange (I'm Canadian, no currency exchanges) and it's dropping too. What's more, I've never seen it so volatile. Usually there are a lot of people with limit orders. So before the price can move, all those limit orders have to be bought or sold. Right now, the bid or ask sizes are tiny. The prices are very volatile. Sometimes there are large limit orders, but they don't stay long. Prices are unpredictable. Looks at the price of a barrel of oil today. It's insane. It jumped to around 89 dollars and dropped all the way down to 84 and back up to 87 within the span of an hour.

Its because oil has competing reasons for its price.
As a commodity, oil is influenced by demand which will be lower in a recession, but the markets are reacting to the inflationary fears of which oil is a hedge. The question is which is a bigger risk? I think the answer is both equaling stagflation.

high. He thought for a minute and then answered that, no, removing money

345 The now certainty of ObamaCare, the fiscal cliff and TFG's re-election have set the stage for something real big and bad for our economy. The problem is like in 2008, there was plenty of notice but it seemed to blow up every quickly. Everyone knew something was up but all the people who could do something about it were paralyzed about how to best tackle it. Regardless of the fiscal cliff being resolved, capital gains taxes - going up about 40%, payroll tax - up about 30%, and it cost your family more to have you die as the estate tax threshold goes from $5M down to a paltry $1M. These will all attack mainly, the upper middle class, the job creators...A plausible scenario - The DOW is @ 12800 today but what if the Bears take money out of the market slowly over the next 2 months and is at 10000 at years end? Panic sets in about the time the fiscal cliff is approached and the Dow really crashes, a big bank fails...This time there is no bottom or available Fed solution because they've used all those arrows in the quiver...

Posted by: Adolf Hitler's Last Parody Video at November 08, 2012 05:37 PM (CUoon)

351 That makes absolutely no sense. That's taxing a loss.

No.

You borrowed $100k. (To buy your house, or whatever. Doesn't matter.) Although the money went into your pocket, you weren't taxed when the loan funded because it was a loan. It carried an equal obligation to pay it back so the impact on your net worth was zero. No taxable effect.

Later, you've paid it down to $80k. The lender, being an all around great guy, tells you that you don't have to pay the rest back. He forgives the loan. NOW you're $80,000 richer. The IRS hears of this and they're on your porch the next morning.

The fact that YOU chose to spend the loan funds on an asset that lost value IS IRRELEVANT. That's your problem for making bad decisions and shit. As far as the IRS is concerned, you could have snorted the loan money up as cocaine. Regardless of what you spent it on, the IRS only cares that, in effect, someone spotted you a free $80,000.

367 The way most folks get screwed is by taking the reduced amount to settle the debt. Most debt collectors won't write it off. The credit card company might but they usually sell the account.

I've been offered some really really sweet down ward adjustments on my defaults but since I HAVE NO MONEY, I can't take advantage.

Plus a debt write off and subsequent 1099 with the taxes accruing can be avoided if you really are unable to pay. The IRS will expect lots of verification and hard copies proving it but if you don't have the dough, they'll see it for what it is.

If you stiffed the credit card companies purposefully and had the money to pay, then they'll consider it income. It's a fine line. Best to actually be unable to pay when you stop paying.

368 Maybe someone needs to study history a little more before dismissing the SF'ers out of hand. Some of them actually do know what they're talking about. Most do not pretend to be dyed-in-the-wool Republicans. Many of their issues straddle the left/right/libertarian line, rendering conventional paradigms somewhat obsolete. By '16, Don Black and company may be something to be reckoned with.

370 And he's an idiot, because we don't tax "wealth."

Not yet anyway. Obama has 4 years to rectify that.

371 Funny thing. In my blog rounds over the years, I've noticed it's the leftists who are quick on the ban button and the reactionaries who bend over backwards to engage people in conversation rather than just shutting them down. Even when they know the visitors are talking nonsense. Even when it's nonsense they've heard a hundred times before. They would stop and take the time to explain WHY it was nonsense. The ban-buttoners though pretty clearly didn't have any argument to make, they just wanted contradiction to go away.

If it wasn't for that I'd still be a leftist.

372 16 I'm glad they sentenced that Anti-Islam Video maker to a year in jail, but I still see his influence is roiling the markets. I think it should settle down soon

Not yet. More midnight knocks will be required. The Attorney General is working on it.

373 The daily price of the stock market is driven by extremely short term thinking, and what's good for the stock market isn't necessarily what's good for America.
