But as a high-income-a/k/a-1%-American who has never cheated on his taxes before, I have another message.

Fuck. You.

I've been paying AMT for, oh, five years now: 28% marginal on a lower base plus a state rate of 5.3%. The "Bush Tax Rates" that Obama talks about ... oh, wait. He forgot about the AMT. He made out like the "rich" were paying ridiculously low tax rates.

Well, if you're "rich" and still earn a living from real work and happen to live in a high wage/high tax state, this isn't the case at all. You've been paying the AMT too.

So welcome to your red-state tax increase, folks. Your blue-state brethren voted that you should be taxed more. And they're right! As it goes, anyway.

Because this folly won't fall on me. I'm at a high enough rate as it is. And the incentive to cheat just went way up. The IRS charges a much lower interest rate than I'd ever have to pay from holding "the government's" money for a while, so my income model just got another line called "tax float".

Arbitrage, 99%ers, do you speak it?

You like your big government, assholes? Pay for it. But I'll have a chair when the music stops.

I encourage all similarly-situated Americans to do the same.

You idiots that reelected Obama, and elected Warren and the like, can't vote yourselves an infinite slice of my wallet. I'll always be one step ahead of you.

A large amount of money will be moved to offshore tax havens between now and 12/31. Also, watch dividend-paying stocks. A ton of money's about to be distributed in advance of the return-to-Boooosh!!11! tax rates plus the new Obamacare tax on investment income.

Oh, and it's my birthday. Instead of spending it happily effing off, I'll spend it moving money. Point. Click. Done. So, happy.

Also, FWIW, Dow futures are down ~100 points on "hope" as I write this.

[Update] Apologies if this is too ranty. I'm just pissed at the idiots that are stealing my hard-earned money.

I work in healthcare, and there is just no way to hide income.

The only thing I can say is, that if you work for a small company. . .or you're a professional and have the ability to self-incorporate, look into a cash-balance retirement plan. This lets you sock away a huge amount of money in a tax-advantaged pension plan that works a bit like an IRA.

So, you squirrel the money away now pre-tax, and hope to take it out later at a better tax bracket.

Low-income: Their nominal taxes will (probably) not go up. But watch for inflation, which is the "hidden tax" and actually hits the entitled classes (from welfare to those on SS Retirement and Medicare the worst. All in all, those with low incomes have less "wiggle room" to make ends meet, and they'll be the first to enter Thunderdome.

Middle Class/High income: Their nominal taxes are going up. It's going to suck. However, most of these people (not all- and I'm one of the "not all) have more wiggle room. The ability, as Andy says, to Go Galt.

I'm coming to the same realization. My folks are both JFKennedy-type Democrats. They brought me up to be polite, hard-working, respectful, and not to ask for or take anything I can't earn myself. They taught me that real work has intrinsic value, and that being proud of and happy with yourself is one of the most important things in the world.The world, and certainly the left, isn't like that anymore. Taking from someone else is now something to be lauded, desired.For all intents and purposes, I'm paycheck to paycheck. I don't live extravagantly, I have only a few vices (good scotch, for example), and don't live beyond my means.For that, I've been punished by the American electorate, and it makes me fucking furious.

I might need to consider liquidating my portfolio and shifting to precious metals. I most hold blue chips on the assumption that company value is largely fixed do to assets, and isn't subject to currency fluctuations. But if they are going to tax the investors, then the money is better put someplace they can't tax it.

It's not a huge position, maybe $15K at the moment. Most of my money is in my 401K which I can't touch, until they seize it. Anyone have suggestions?

The problem (or difficulty) is that it is extremely hard now to get a bank account outside the US in the last few years, as FATCA has scared most big banks away from US citizens. BUT it still can be done. This is only going to get worse now. Small banks, dollar deposits, plus gold my friends.

Well said and I'm in the same situation. I have two neighbors who work seasonal jobs in the spring, summer, and fall, and then collect unemployment in the winter. The problem is that they work under the table jobs in the winter and do snow removal and cut firewood. Of course they are big Obama supporters and cannot be reasoned with in respects to being honorable and honest citizens. They feel entitled to cheat because they view the "rich" as somehow unfairly keeping them from becoming rich themselves. Unsurprisingly they cannot explain how someone else becoming rich keeps them down.

Well, my plan is to hold tight to the family, my values, and begin to stock up on food and the means to defend myself from my neighbors when the $hit hits the fan and they are looking to take from me.

Make them spell out their taxes. Make them spell everything out.

Also, for every executive order he creates, make the same exact bill and vote on it. Make those public. Make them CBO scored.

Get ready for even more costly energy, even more corruption, and even more crimes (F & F, Benghazi, etc) - by the time Obama is done, no one will ever admit they voted for him. Obama simply cannot blame Bush anymore (that was always BS, but now its farce). But the Illinois, California and NY bail-out is still off the table - since it cant survive the House and the continued economic decline Obama's victory guarantees will only hasten that event.

But this should have been a blowout R victory, given the precipitous USdecline in living standards and corruption of the Obama years. That it was not shows the play it safe, run on being a more competent less corrupt executive is a losing proposition.

Why did'nt the base show up? How do we punish the DMM for their obvious corruption? Its going to be a wild ride, but at the end of this term, conservative principles will be vindicated again, and things will be so bad that no D has a chance, or the country breaks up. Either way, that's fine with me. But whenever we win again, we must practice Chicago politics and punish our enemies like the Ds do. After this, there can be no quarter with the DMM, public sector parasites, big academia (more parasites), big environmentalism, etc.

Well, no more. You think I'm a selfish, greedy, money grubbing prick of a Mr. Burns in the making? You ain't see nothing yet you freeloading cocksuckers. That first group -- vets & pets -- God bless 'em, that's where I should have been directing more of my efforts in the first place.

But my Obama loving parish and community groups, and free loading tax collection instruments of the law, etc.? 379 I probably won't do anything much different than I have done, except at the margins. I still have bills to pay and a young son to take care of. But, I'll probably cut back on things that aren't necessary, and try to save more money than I spend (which will lead to many fights with my wife, who seems to believe that any money that is not immediately spent will disappear). I'll probably be a bit less charitable, since I don't feel particularly sympathetic at this point toward any person who is unemployed, or will be soon, who voted for Obama. I think this country needs to get what it voted for. Good and hard. I'll save that money for my son. And I'll probably avoid giving any business to companies that openly support Obama or Democrats. None of these things will probably make much of a difference in the end, but at least I'll have some peace of mind.

The key to this problem is not to freak out about hispanics but to find Hispanic businessmen and have them run for office. They can explain stuff to their people in Spanish.

Live in Milwaukee County and the wife and I are looking immediately to the north (Ozaukee) to find a new home for the family. If I can pull it off before the end of the year new tax rates kick into effect. Now its just a question of how far north we move.

Between the two of us I guess we're considered the filthy rich ($200K) but her business is reliant on people with disposable income frequenting higher end restaurants...we're assuming this will be the last year of true success.

Take this for what its worth. I'm not nearly as devout as my wife and get a little squeamish when she talks about harbingers and the trials. She is a very conservative catholic with very close friends within the Church...we were in St. Louis last month for a day of prayer with a close friend who is a priest and his order. He is a visionary and explained to everyone there that bad trouble is coming our way...the good thing is when it happens it will be quick, but the bad is it will be bloody. Waking up this AM I gotta say our further discussion about it spooked me.

Probably buying one more gun and lots more ammo...when the government starts stiffing the takers they'll simply cut out the middleman and come to us directly for their Obama money.

Good thing is I guess that all these cases of pudding I got will actually be needed for food...

Frankly, I suspect she probably voted for Obama, too, since she told me she didn't trust Romney (she gets her mind poisoned by her idiot Facebook friends). My tin foil hat is on this morning. I think there was some fraud involved. Maybe not enough to have completely stolen it, but there is no way fewer voted for Romney than McCain, unless McCain got more of the marijuana crowd than Romney did. It was on the ballot in several states. That's the only thing that makes any sense to me, that and maybe Ron Paul write-ins?

Regardless of what was said, turnout was down. In Ohio, only 53% of the registered voters showed up. There was supposed to be a record of 66% show up yesterday. Didn't happen.

My polling place was not as busy as other years, and I chalked it up to "early voting" yesterday. Nope. People just didn't show, they didn't care. And I live in a pretty Republican suburban area of Columbus. People did not show up. Period. Full stop.

The country is screwed by the apathy of millions who will bitch about the results but just don't care to show up.


And the demographics and geography of elections is screwed for Republicans. When California, Illinois, Minnesotaand New York are OFF THE TABLE before the campaign even starts (not to mention Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, Connecticutt, Vermont and Maine), then what can we expect?
Yeah, the Social Cons "killed us". If the Social Cons stay home in the next Presidential election, the Republicans might win ten states.

Vote buying by the New Deal/Square Deal/New Frontier/Great Society history of the last 90 years has killed us. To win, the Republicans have to get in a bidding war for goodies for every faction in America, and the Democrats are past masters at promising to give stuff away to buy votes.

First, you have pay a good amount in taxes, all countries do this so that renouncing citizenship isn't so easy. Yes, its permanent, unless you want to reapply to become a US citizen, but I imagine you will have a hard time even getting a green card if they see you've given up your citizenship one time prior.

one of the co-founders of youtube, gave up his US citizenship, became a Singaporean citizen, that country is very strict in who it lets in, no riff raff.

And it's a deal in this neighborhood. We were friendly at one point, but the last straw was when I ran into her in Whole Foods a few months ago. I work FT, only go into WF to buy bulk stuff like beans and flour, and she had a cartful of crap. Which she paid for with her EBT card. So, hey, what kind of fool am I, worrying about bills and rent and cutting coupons? Damn, maybe I should go on the dole and raise my standard of living too! Yeah, the money will run out, but shouldn't I get a nice big slice of that tasty government cheese too before it does?

I'm tired of being a sucker. Maybe I should play by their rules instead of mine.

He called some local yokel service tech to come take a look at it. The service guy pulls up in a truck with an obama sticker on it. I no longer have the capacity to bite my tongue and quietly stare at the ice cubes in my empty glass while you go off on one of your statist rants. Those days are over.

And my small business? If I know you are an obama supporter, I'll still take your money. But rest assured I will do the absolute bare minimum that is humanly possible to avoid a lawsuit. Things went well for me recently and I'm waiting on anoffer, hopefully getting signed off on today, to join your tax bracket. It's been a long damn hike after getting out of grad school a few years ago with massive debt, required to joinmy once-lucrative niche if you're not a special person.
And I wonder: Why bother? I've busted my ass, and it's about to get much, much harder. If I can't keep the reward; if I'm going to be excluding myself from the freebie lines; if I'm going to pay down my student loans responsibly just so I can keep paying someone else's; if my wife an I live meticulously to facilitate the recklessness of others... why?
Outside of academia, I am a ground combat genius. I canrun an infantry unit with the best of them. The hyperbolist in me thinks I should say"Fuck earning,"go to 40 hour weeks, disregard my 8 years of university, and spend the balance in the gym. You can try to stay a step ahead, but nobody outruns the fire forever.
It might not be 2016, but by 2016 the path will likely be unavoidable. This system will fail, and you need an exit strategy, or at least a survival strategy, when it does. Dividend-bearing stocks will probably be irrelevant around the time that our public sector saviors take to the streets because their pension funds are empty or worthless.

I had to "retire early", and now my income is government-limited to $28K total for the next year and a half.

I frequently feel derision because I'm apparently living off "someone else's money". I usually point out that that's not true, and won't be for another 12 years until I get what I donated back.

A couple years back, my father-in-law, a left-wing Obama supporter, stopped working and "lost" his house. And by "lost" I mean he stopped paying for it but lived there a good year and a half before they kicked him out. Then, he lived with us for a year. He then cashed in his life insurance policy for a pittance (which probably means that when he dies, we'll get to pay for all of his funeral expenses out of pocket) and moved out. Then, because of smoking, he got a lung infection that nearly killed him. Didn't quit smoking though. Now gets disability and other benefits to the tune of $1200 a month (this was his big goal in life - to get on disability. I wish I were kidding). Not a ton of money, but enough for him to live off of (although with the price of cigarettes, I'm not sure how). Oh, and I should mention that he also had two sons, my wife's older half-brothers, that he played no part in raising and paid little or no child support.
This is what we're up against. It's not a simple issue of winning elections; it's getting people like this to get off their asses and quit sponging off of others. And for many, it's a losing battle. I think there's more people like this than ever before in this country.

They watched my step son destroy my second marriage to the "perfect wife" who turned 180degrees when her son did so she wouldn't "lose him". All the prayers in the world didn't help.
8 years of total emptiness now just going through the motions. Can't thank go for my friends out of fear he'll take them from me. Can't ask him to bless them out of fear he'll trash their lives too.

Then invest off-shore, and move out of Canada, but keep your Candian citizenship.

Canada still has sane tax laws. The rate is higher, but they don't tax you if you are not currently living in Canada, unlike the US where the IRS thinks you are still on the hook if you live abroad.

But do not move any cash until you are no longer a US citizen, otherwise the IRS will declare you a tax cheat and still a citizen, even if you have renounced.

One of the things I can't figure out about the left is why they have trouble with the idea that increased government funding for higher education along with guaranteed student loans have fueled the increases in tuition. Sure, it's a bit counter-intuitive (but not really that much when you think about), but what alternative theory do they have? That a bunch of greedy left-wing university administrators and faculty members are fleecing the students (there may be some truth to that, but I wouldn't expect lefties to believe that). Apparently, to the party of science and reason, tuition is just magically getting more expensive. Not much can be done, I guess, but have government pay even more.

Exactly, Disney (ABC) & GE (NBC) are dead to me. I dropped Comcast cable (Warner, Universal and NBC) this morning and stopped Hulu+ (NBC) Viacom (CBS) owns Westinghouse, Simon & Schuster, Showtime, MTV, Paramount pictures and amusement parks.

Our public libraries are full of excellent material that doesn't earn the entertainment industry residuals., and we've already paid for it. They have DVDs, games, audiobooks, CDs, magazines and of course; books.

I've dumped all our magazine subscriptions too. Fuck 'em.

I have been on the side that got up and went in to work, remained lawful, paid my taxes, and gave to charity. I must now modify that.

Realize that taxes are not money. Taxes are in reality are hours out of my life. The receivers of the dole are stealing my life. The receivers of free stuff are stealing my life. It is not about dollars, it is about hours out of my life........ So, until each and every adult in this country is getting up in the morning and contributing hours out of their life, we have 2 teams. Those that get their lives stolen and those that steal the lives.

My plan:
No longer buy products from blue states. Foreign if necessary but not blue.
No longer buy union made products.
No longer willingly socialize with libtards.
No longer give to any charities except maybe directly to those on my team that need it.
No longer subscribe to any media populated with libtards. (movies, NPR, news channels, etc)
No longer purchase products that are anti-american in deed. (I am making a list, any assistance will be appreciated).....maybe Ace can post it.

As we go over the cliff it is get serious time. It is time to choose sides.

No more money to the salvation army, where were they? They should also consider where the FEMA money goes. Where were they? Almost feel like these "organizations" are ways to redistribute money to send to the political party in power and to give major huge salaries to their executives. No more being nice to teachers or government workers (except cops, firemen and the military) I'm giving them a hardy FU anytime I am forced to deal with them.

We should as a country take away all "non profit" status. You're a business, you profit, you pay. Even churches and religious institutions

Oh, and since this is my first post having been cold and in the freakin dark for 9 days, FU Chris Christie, you'll never ever, never ever, have my vote ever. Paul Ryan was a rising star. Not anymore. Romney ruined that. He'll be forever tainted by this election. .

I am not buying anything that I do not have to for The next 4 years. NOT so much as a pair of socks. SCREW IT. I have enough stuff. Clothes, books, movies, music.....I can think of things I want....but nothing I NEED.

No more gifts. No more $150 on flowers when someone dies. Notes. Handwritten andfrom the heart for congratulations or condolences and everything in between.

THIS the America my friends on the left want? THEY GOT IT.

It will suck at times, but that is the way it is going to be.
