Hour by Hour Guide to Poll Closings, And Important Races

Good guide. I'll be checking back with it through the night. He notes the Senate races in play, important (seriously contested) House races, and gubernatorial races.

Pinellas County, Florida: It went Obama 54-46 in 2008.

Early and absentee voting is at now at parity, according to party affiliation.

StarKhan Reince Priebus Makes A Bold Call: Says networks will call the race by 10:30. For Romney.

Looking at body language: Republicans on TV look upbeat. I just saw Bill Richardson (D) on Cavuto. He looked like he was going through the motions.

More: I already linked this Geraghty piece but now he's added a series of updates.

The GOP is claiming that they're strong in northern Bucks County (critical Philadelphia suburb). They say this is a bellwether.

I don't know if they mean norther Bucks County is a bellwether or if Bucks County as a whole is bellwether. If it's the latter, I don't know how to read this information, as they're only talking about the the north of the county.

Meanwhile, in Virginia:

In Democratic stronghold Charlottesville at 1 p.m., turnout was 36 percent of registered voters. Obama got 80 percent of the vote there in 2008.

In Democratic stronghold Martinsville at noon, turnout was out 34 percent of registered voters. Obama got 65 percent of the vote there in 2008.

On Saturday eve I finally “stuck in

evidently asked some pretty dumb questions about “socks” and acronyms. Most
everyone was pretty cool about it (although I understand I may have broken some
un-written, guidebook, ground rules -- My apologies.). Anyway, after 3 or 4
Valu-Bourbons, I built up the nerve to jump into the ONOT. It was a pretty
pleasurable experience, although I lost any advantage gained by the extra hour

Barone is the smartest electoral analyst out there. He literally wrote the book on American politics (an almanac). He cares about his reputation and never, ever makes wild-assed predictions. He could easily hedge his bets and declare it too close to call. The fact that he's fairly confidently calling it for Romney is significant.

152 Bucks is divided into upper, central, and lower.
From what I understand, Upper Bucks leans more liberal. So if there is a
big GOP turnout there, that is a BFD. Also Upper Bucks County hosted
the PA rally that drew 30,000 people.

Posted by: kallisto at November 06, 2012 05:04 PM (jm/9g)
Upper Bucks is filled with limousine libs who work in New York. Central Bucks (Doylestown) is affluent, leans conservative. Lower Bucks (Levittown) is blue-collar Reagan Democrat.
(Actually, the rally was in Lower Bucks County. And it was even better. Official count per Republican officials was 35K. And 5K had to be turned away by the Secret Service because there was no more room. And it was cold as a bitch. The people there really WANTED IT. That's when I was sure Romney was going to take PA.}

I'm poll watching at a precinct in southern Bucks County and it is overwhelmingly (D). Turnout "high" here. but low at an adjacent precinct.

I think the northern part of the county rules the roost. Lots of complaining by Ds here that Doylestown (the county seat?) purposely buggered up the ballot by listing Rs in first column and not Ds. Their rationale is that because Barky is the incumbent, his party deserved to be "first".

167 Last night Ace pissed me off royally by implying I didn't care about my country if I didn't man phone banks, etc. etc. etc.

I just got off the phone with an "exit poll" type who (yes) called because Romney's data had me recorded as unaffiliated. It was Romney's data bank, not from the NRA (my other suspicion).

Nice guy -- chatted with him for maybe 10 minutes (he was calling from Idaho, knew I am in Colorado).

Before he got a complete sentence out, I said "Let me make this easy on you. Romney. Wife: early vote Romney. She's also unaffiliated".

The cool part of the call is that I told him that if I truly had been undecided, the sheer volume of calls I'd gotten could easily have shifted my vote the other way just by being so sick of phone calls.

The ONLY reason it didn't is that I'd studied all the issues, had watched all the primaries, and had concluded that even though Romney was not my first pick, I was confident he was the best pick overall, and I was impressed with the way he ran his campaign and kept his focus.

The guy said he was taking notes, and what I was saying was useful for the next go-around. (He didn't sound like there should be a maybe inserted). He said it was good to talk to a true patriot, which he defined as someone who did the research and had arrived at conclusions for reasons.

Which means I'll maybe get a phone call in 4 years seeking ground support early, and concerns about pushing too hard were noted and recorded.

Take notes, Ace.

Listened to Barone a few minutes ago on Hannity. When Hannity spoke of the people he had spoken to of huge GOP turnout, Barone told him that yes, he'd heard that from several too but that he'd not make a judgement from anything other than data, but then he went on to talk about how the EV in university towns in Ohio and in WI were way down, bad for Obama, and that even in northern VA there are thousands of new condo type residences for college students and it appear they were not turning out.
I got the feeling that Barone hasn't been surprised by too much yet, but admittedly, he hasn't seen numbers. (and we know his prediction).
Hannity talking to Paul Ryan right now. Ryan said he has had good signs all around but he said as many don't vote until they get off work, he urges people to do so. He sounds calm. Speaking now of his late night Milwaukee rally last night and I think he sounds like they have WI and the election as long as the turn out occurs, so it's clear their pollsters have told the R/R team it really is only about turnout and he still thinks PA is in play, saying the state is a lot like where he's from.
I am wondering if this radio interview is to get those last votes or if he's in some airplane or something so he might as well get on the radio.
I don't know the state of WI. Those who do? If you voted to keep Walker in office, would you also vote for a favorite son, even if he's of another party and district?

328 Ace,

Bucks County is a long narrow county bordered by Phila on the south, the Delaware River and NJ on the east, a rural area on the north, and Montgomery county on the west.

The Lower Bucks area is old, run down, and mostly Democrat. Levittown, Bristol, Bensalem, etc. There used to be blue collar workers down there. Now there are a lot of the 47% down there. They always vote Democrat.

Middle and Upper Bucks are now where the upper middle class lives (and in the case of some parts of the middle/upper Bucks line, where the EXTRAORDINARILY RICH live).

These people are snobs. I know because I grew up there. They look down on everyone else in America. They think they are smarter, more stylish, more enlightened, and simply better than everyone else. They think Southerners are stupid hicks. They think Texans are stupid hicks. They think midwesterners are boring, stupid hicks. And so on.

These people vote Democrat, most of the time, as a social signal, to prove to everyone how cultured and enlightened they are. Kind of how lawyers vote Democrat, because Republicans are mouth breathers. A lot of their parents voted Republican, when Republicans were country club rich people who weren't socially committed either way, but once the evangelicals moved into the Republican party, they quit.

But when times are bad, these people vote their pocketbook, and vote Republican. They either don't admit it, or claim that their specific Republican candidate is socially liberal but fiscally conservative and blah blah blah.

So this county, which is more or less it's own Congressional district, flips back and forth pretty regularly between D and R. In 2010, it went R for their Congressman.

My parents still live in Middle Bucks and crawled across broken glass to vote R this morning.

Re Bucks County:
I'm in the middle part of the county, and in 2008 the McCain/Obama signs were pretty even. One day I drove through the upper (richer) part and was absolutely floored by the prevalence of Obama signs. That's when I knew we were in trouble.

I haven't driven through there this year, but there are fewer signs overall in my part of the county.
