Update to CO Voters

Bumped by Ace. A Republican official also had a similar problem -- being told he had already voted absentee when he hadn't (he hadn't even requested an absentee ballot).

Stand your ground. You are entitled to a provisional ballot. If you cast a provisional ballot, there'll be proceeding to determine what's gone wrong. Put them in the spotlight for their incompetence.

Lot of this going 'round.

Remember, the official inquiry only begins when you stand your ground, insist on a provisional ballot, and declare you have not already voted, so whatever vote was cast in your name was cast by a criminal, who needs to be locked up in jail, and who also needs some scrutiny into who's paying him to do this.

...

Commenter Alice passed along info about voters being turned back at her polling place because they aren't on the voter rolls. She wanted to remind you to request a provisional ballot, don't take no for an answer, and don't listen to them tell you it won't count.

You'll have to follow up with the registrar (or whoever is responsible for voter registration in your county) to demonstrate your eligibility, which is racist, but whatever.

Passing this along without checking the actual rules and shit in CO, because I'm at work and besides I'm the worst researcher on this moron blog.

11 Man,
CO is mean. Wife and I weren't on the roles in 2010 due to moving (we filed paperwork, but they printed the books early that year so we weren't in them.)
I didn't have to demand a provisional ballot, they set me up with one right away. I didn't bother to check up on it TBH. Although in fairness they called on the spot and found me on the roles on voting day, but just not in the book. (Apparently MO rules are, if you're not in the book you have to provisional ballot so you have a place to sign.)

Philly GOP: Poll inspectors being ousted for Dems

Court-appointed Republican poll inspectors are being forcibly removed from voting stations in some Philadelphia wards and replaced in some cases by Democratic inspectors and even members of the Black Panthers, according to GOP officials.

Secrets just received this memo from GOP officials:

The Philadelphia GOP is reporting that court appointed Minority (read GOP) Inspectors are being thrown out of polling locations in several Wards.

These Inspectors are election officials - again, court appointed -- and are reportedly being thrown out by the Head Judges of Elections (these Judges are elected Democrats) and being replaced by Democrats.

...

Another official told Secrets: "one of our female inspectors was physically thrown out."

Adams. I'm a pollwatcher here, was able to get the gal who was turned away a provisional ballot, and got the county clerk and recorder to jump on the election judge's head. (Despite being a Dem, our county clerk and recorder's actually a decent gal.)

Even if you are in ANOTHER STATE from where you are registered, you should still be able to vote a provisional ballot for the national election - at least, that's the rules in Colorado, I believe it's based on some sort of national rule. It's up to the county clerk to sort out what elections you're actually eligible, and they will likely only count the provisionals if it's close, but wouldn't you be kicking yourself if you could have been the close vote?

137 Busy voting day in my little red corner of excessively sunny SoCal, although not as busy as in '08. However, I think I voted at lunch time in '08.

Big long line for the electronic machines, but plenty of temporary cardboard privacy shelters for the paper ballots. I don't understand how folks can look at the other end of the room, see the big long line of folks waiting for an electronic voting machine, and think "I want me a piece of that action!"

One thing we had this time that I don't recall in '08 was a line of folks waiting to shove their paper ballots in the ballot box. In the past, it's always been "don't you dear rip that tag off before I'm ready to watch you shove your ballot in the box!" This year, they had a person walking down the line telling folks to rip their tag off so they could quickly stuff the ballot in the box.

Then someone distracted the little old lady handing out the "I voted!" stickers just as I got to here, so I didn't get one.

They will prosecute if there is enough of an outcry nationally and locally. Recall, this is the city that attempted to shut down a sandwich shop owner who had a sign in his window that demanded his customers speak English for good service. Joey VEnto's cause attracted national attention, and the mayor at the time - a true gangsta - backed down.

The local media will be all over this. The current mayor likes to portray himself as a professional, he doesn't look nor sound gangsta. HOWEVER if he didn't want the national spotlight on his city, he should have gathered all city poll workers together yesterday and let them know in no uncertain terms that this shit would not be tolerated.

I don't have a Twitter account. If anyone does, please start a #Phillythugs or #boycottPhilly tag. If there's one thing that moves Mayor Nutless to action, it is negative publicity that affect tourism dollars coming in to the city.

172 118 Unlike in CO where they can see whether the Romney vote indeed was cast for Romney, here you couldn't tell what happened once you fed your mammoth cardboard ballot into the scanner. I asked, and the guy there said once it's fed, it's fed -- it will not tell you whether it was cast for R or O.

-------

Yeah, they use the same sort of system here in excessively sunny SoCal. Back in the day, we had one of them ballet counting zoopers mounted on the ballot back. But ever since we evicted Gray Davis, we just get a big black box with a slot on the top so that the election officials can lose our ballots, find them, lose them again, bury them in a peat bog, and recycle them as fire lighters before they have to count them.

I liked the zooper, even though you couldn't see its count. When your ballot zooped through the zooper on its way into the box, you felt like "well, at least I know I've been counted."

A
senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the
dealership. Taking off down the road, he floored it to 80 mph, enjoying
the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. "Amazing,"
he thought as he flew down I-94, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in
his rear view mirror, he saw a state trooper behind him, lights
flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then
120. Suddenly he thought, "What am I doing? I'm too old for this," and
pulled over to await the trooper's arrival. Pulling in behind him, the
trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said, "Sir,
my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a
reason for speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go."
The old gentleman paused. Then he said, "Years ago, my wife
ran off with a State trooper. I thought you were bringing her back."

"Have a good day, sir," replied the trooper.

182 In 2008 the poll worker at voter sign-in told us we were not on the roster. We had voted in every election for the previous 10 years. We were told we had to go downtown and file a provisional ballot. What I assumed was a Republican poll watcher pointed out our names on the roster and we voted. Subtle voter supression by the Dims. 233 So if I have it right re: provisional balloting, once the provisional ballot is cast, the onus is on the voter to come back to the elections board with their documented bona fides. If that doesn't happen, the provisional is invalidated and discarded.

If you find someone voting R-R on a provisional, ask if they wouldn't mind giving you their name and phone number. And call them later on to be sure they followed up to validate the provisional.

296 Howard Dean on MSNBC just said that the only way Obama loses Ohio is if rigged voting machines and other forms of intimidation result in a Romney win. They are already setting up Ohio as FL Bush v. Gore.

I think that's mostly reflex because common knowledge says Ohio is a swing state, but its going Romney this time I think. Pennsylvania is going to be the tight one they try to game... but it won't be close enough an election for it to matter.

You can tell how they aren't really about voter suppression or disenfranchisement at all because they only fight when the election is really close. If its not close, they just shrug and walk away.

If their real concern was people being screwed out of their vote, they'd fight and investigate and work to stop that even when its a blowout or they win. If their real concern is finding a way to game a win out of a tight loss, then they'd act like they do now.

Just got back from my local jeffco precinct - line was short but solid. Looks like there will be plenty of provisionals as I saw 2 go in - one from a younger guy who said he didn't get his mail ballot. The only reason someone wouldn't be on the roll is if they are not registered in the precinct, and we send out cards, so all this last minute stuff fascinates me. People can't vote because they didn't register?
There was a "voter protection" guy - clearly an obamanaut - and he seemed to think he was in charge, the judges were deferring to him. He seemed to be a fair observerfrom my short time there. I did not see any ORCA Romney folk (maybe I should've taken that myself).
I had a choice of paper or electronic, so I bucked the trend and went electronic, all new-fangled like - I've been voting on machines forever, anyway - is was a pretty good implementation of a ballot on ESS (I think) equipment - it gave ample opportunities to review and correct before submitting, so, not sure what those other stories were about.

354 Recording voter affiliation on voter registration is the source of this crap. Easy for a criminal government employee to request absentee ballots for each republican in the district, or tell the computer they moved.

356 Just voted in Minneapolis, had to wait about 30 min. Almost all Obama voters, but that's normal for this part of town. Including a middle aged gentleman who thought it perfectly acceptable to cut in front of me in line to join his wife and granddaughter who got there 20 minutes before he did.

I made it clear that it wasn't. The wife and granddaughter quickly ushered me in front of them after seeing that he was about to come out second best in that argument so I let it slide after that.

Get there a couple of minutes later while parking the car? No problem, stand with your wife. Show up 20 minutes later, then call the wife to see where she is and cutting line when you find out she's inside after waiting like everybody else? Not in front of me, gramps.

446 In the for-what-it's worth department:

I went to the Republican-leaning polling station in my precinct even though I had done the early voting thing, just to check on how things were going there. Very heavy turnout. One of the election workers there said the wait early this morning was averaging about an hour and a half although there really was no line to speak of at that point (2PM Central.) About noon they hit the 1500 mark, and if I recall correctly that is about 20% higher than during the recall election mid-day.

I made sure they had my vote recorded as early absentee, which it was.

Clinton got elected...because ofa 3-way split in the Vote.
Both times.
Clinton never got anywhere close to a 50% win.

Clinton promoted 'outsourcing' of jobs.
Bigtime.
He sent out plane loads of his people, together with industry leaders...to 'Promote Trade' in 3rd world countries.
That's what Ron Brown was busy doing.
It was all on the taxpayer dime, too.

So it is really pukeworthy to hear the lies about how 'great' Clinton was, on the economy.

476 Hello, all. Been away for a while, trying to get over a nasty upper respiratory infection.

D'oh Boy informed his dad via Facebook yesterday that he hadn't received his absentee ballot on Okinawa. I went with him to Voter Registration here while he was home on leave from A-Stan and watched him fill out the form. He was told he'd receive an e-mail with the website to download and print his ballot.

He never received it, and said he was one of dozens of Marines who didn't receive theirs from various states.

I was seething with anger, and drove to Registration. (It would have been helpful if our kid had told us sooner, but I digress.

The guy who had helped our son remembered me and was very nice and helpful. He took me to a woman who found the e-mail they said they had sent him and it had the wrong, damned e-mail address. She was totally un-helpful and gave me the address of the site where he could find his ballot. Then she said, "If it ain't back here by Friday, it won't be counted" and walked away.

As I angrily left the building, the guy who had helped our son, followed me outside and said, "I don't know who you plan to vote for, and I don't want to know, but I have a Jack Kingston sign in my front yard [*wink* *wink*] and you need to let him know about this. Your son isn't the only one this has happened to." I assured him that I would.

Bottom line, our son did manage to vote and sent his ballot back by express mail. Thus cancelling out one of his Obamabot cousins.

That's because we're more busy.

In '08, we had more time on our hands (well, I say "we" but I wasn't blogging then) for a variety of reasons (less enthusiasm, McCain trying to shut out the bloggers, etc.).
