Mitt Romney's 'Red Rocks' Ad, Modified
Here is the original. I swapped out the audio with the greatest victory music evah, "Flying Home" from the movie Kick Ass. The music fit almost perfectly. Just a couple of tweaks to the video. It's below the fold.
@Tmi3rd thought it would be a good idea to put up inspiring music and scenes to get people charged up for the election. So here's a little of both. If anyone has anything uplifting, this might be a good thread for it. If not, open thread.Comments

Any Keystone staters who can't make it to the Mitt rally today, WPHT 1210 AM is covering it live. The hosts are conservative, so it's less likely that the crowd size will be underreported.

I disagree. This is a gigantic national story. Wilder's been hinting this for some time. He doesn't really care about his own political career, as far as I can tell.
Wilder was the first First Black Whatever. It was a big deal when he got elected and, as far as I can tell, he was actually competent at the job.

I also reminded him that Romney will need a definite popular win to overcome the margin of fraud and for the Senate to flip R so he doesn't spen the next 4 years fighting Reid who seems to hate him personally and would delight in blocking important initiatives just to thwart him, no matter the cost to the nation.

I care for a disabled loved one,it's only been the past two years that there have been any significant cuts to his services. From Clinton through Bushhis benefits were never in jeopardy. If he even wanted to get Section 8 housing now, he'd have to wait 3 years, the system is so clogged by the newly poor.

Oh, the fuel trucks were there alright, but when they saw the line for gas was 5 miles long, they changed course and said the gas was only for emergency vehicles. Ever see a five mile long line of REALLY pissed off people?
She also said that it took them a couple days to get their heads around it, but now they are helping themselves. High schools, churches, restaurateurs, Mom and Pop retailers, they are all making things happen without government.
Her final parting words?
"Fuck that liar Sebelius and that goes double for that dyke Napolitano. Nothing they have told us has been the truth yet."

Agreed. I was angry at him for quitting the day after CO went for him in a big way last time and was afraid he'd be another McCain. I'm so happy to have been proved wildly wrong and have become ever more convinced that *if* a team can pull the nation out economically it's Romney/Ryan. Exactly my feelings. I was sure that Mitt was another weak-kneed Republican guy would be another McCain. I was wrong. I was very wrong and I apologize to Mr. Romney for not supporting him in the primaries.
The day he picked Paul Ryan, I knew the man was dead serious about fixing this country. I have been so impressed with everything he has done these last 6 months or so. What a fine fine man.
Whatever happens (and God willing we will have victory) I am confident that everything that COULD be done, HAS been done.
He's left it all on the field. So very impressive.

I've been doing phone banking and sometimes people want to talk. They want to tell you what they think even when you're not asking. I had one old lady rant at me against Obama and then start bawling in big sobbing gasps and it just about broke me. Mostly I hear a lot of determination. A lot of anger toward Obama. Broken glass voters aren't triumphalists. They aren't excited about riding the tide of victory. They're determined, no matter the outcome, to cast their vote.
And I think... I think they NEED the goosebumps and the vision of victory.

Exactly. I'm not poor, although the Aid to Dependant Children certainly helps a lot, but under O it's only a matter of time. Romney/Ryan have made it *very* clear that their job is to get government out of the way of normal law-abiding people trying to provide for themselves and their families. This very much frees up both private charity money and government assistance for those who *truly* need it. You're also right that under Ocare the disabled, and elderly, are first to the knackers which is a sick perversion of American ideals.

There is no reasonable explanation for machines switching someones vote, unless (a) its intentional or (b) the machines are built by morons.
There is no way that a voting machine can not be built that would prevent automatic vote switching from happening. They can be built with a 100 percent accuracy rate. That is a fact. So forgive me for being extremely troubled that the powers that be, even allow the current machines to be used in the first place.

History does tend to repeat itself and I remember Jimmy Carter ruined the Democrat 'brand' for just about that same amount of time. I'll never forget seeing all my neighbors at the polls, like a neighborhood block party, patiently waiting to send JC into retirement.
But it's gonna take a 'fire in the belly' to inspire everyone to help corral your neighbors then stand in what should be a very long line, but it will be worth the wait.

Levees that were built years before under Democrat political management, with local contractors skimming millions of dollars from Federal money paid to create levee safety.
The National Weather service has been projectiong Sandy for days. It appears in aftermath little was done to evacuate people from vulnerable storm surge areas (like Staten Island), and it appears the pre-positioning of emergency gear and rations was inadequate, to say the least.
President Gutsy Call was right on top of this one. And his lackeys in the Media are there to protect his flanks.

Every four years, presidential nominees tell voters that this election is the
most important of our lifetimes. Such proclamations are largely hyperbole.
In 2012, however, it might be warranted. This election is consequential.
During the next four years, the nation will have to face issues of debt,
taxes and fiscal stability that will imprint our grandchildren’s futures and
beyond. National and homeland security have received less attention during this
election than in the previous few, but they always are an international or
national incident away from dominating our consciousness in ways we can’t
anticipate.
And issues surrounding inclusion, equality and fairness can’t ever be
forgotten for long. Otherwise our essential character as a country — the very
essence of the American experiment — will be endangered.
The past decade, particularly the past four years or so, have put all of
those matters at a tipping point — to borrow a phrase from writer Malcolm
Gladwell — during the next four years. It matters whether voters choose
Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney or President Barack Obama to address
them.
The classic question, “Are we better off than we were four years ago,” leaves
a mixed answer for many people I meet when traveling around Virginia and the
country. The grand symbol of that fact is the economic growth numbers released
this past week. The projection was for roughly 1.7 percent growth, but the
statistics actually came in at 2 percent.
The Obama campaign trumpets the numbers as better than expected. The Romney
campaign notes they are lower than promised four years ago. Both are right.
I have campaigned for and supported the president in the past, and many
people now want to discuss his job performance with me. They often note that
Obama ran as a moderate — and that is the man they threw their support behind in
2008. But some look back and say that he has governed as a left-of-center
liberal who did not keep the focus squarely on jobs and economic recovery.
Is that group of independent-minded voters enough to swing Virginia’s 13
electoral votes away from Obama on Tuesday? The race is so close, we will have
to wait until November 6 for a definitive answer. But for a state Obama may
need to win, that uncertainty after almost four years on the job cannot be a
great comfort to his campaign operatives.
The Republicans endured a bad nominating process. Yet in the end, they seem
to have chosen a credible candidate that many Virginians tell me they would feel
fairly comfortable with in the Oval Office. Democrats counted on using ad
hominem attacks to make Romney seem too unworthy and too unsteady to be the
country’s chief executive because of the rough nominating process. But that has
not been 100 percent effective.
Will it be effective enough? We’ll find out on Tuesday.
A while ago, I suggested Obama needed a stronger partner on the ticket for
this election. Vice President Joe Biden has been too much of a distraction this
campaign, which was highlighted by his performance during the mid-October VP
debate. That is not to mention other odd statements.
In 2008 both presidential nominees could have used more thorough processes to
arrive at better vice presidential decisions. Future candidates will be advised
to take note. Vice presidents are important advisers, national and international
surrogates and prospective party nominees themselves. Even minor mistakes in
choosing a vice presidential running mate are worth avoiding.
A few weeks ago in my hometown, Richmond, Virginia, women stopped me to
discuss the election. She told me, without hesitation, that she voted for Obama
in 2008. I asked if that meant she would do the same in 2012. She answered by
saying her vote was not to be taken for granted by anyone.
She said she decides whom to vote for during each campaign based on the
issues and a candidate’s record.
I didn’t push her any further. But does her sentiment make the president’s
team comfortable about next Tuesday? It might not — nor should team Romney take
too much comfort in that.
But we’ll have an answer, one way or another, soon. And once it’s over, many
will say …”Thank God!”

I'm skeptical of positive uplifting imagery. It's usually deployed when a rational look at the facts would make you concerned. The difference in jersey was christie. He ordered a lot of the lakes and reservoirs lowered loooong before the storm hit. Long enough that the water being released had time to be absorbed. Towns that should have been under water stayed safe. My own house was 1 hour away from being lost during irene, this time around my sump didn't have a drop, because the lakes on either side of me were lowered by 5 feet. Christie also had power line crews from out of state already lined up and ready to roll. During irene a bunch of stupid mistakes by the idiots controlling the reservoirs had flooded out huge areas of land. Christie changed the way they operate and this time it went real good. I'm not saying he's god, and I think he was a fool for giving obama the photo op and trusting that jerkoff, but christie did a shitload of preparation for this storm, and it shows. Yeah some areas got wiped off the map, but alot more inland that could have been destroyed had skated by because he planned. Obama didn't do a single fucking thing and deserves not a fucking drop of credit.

I am glad for you and other people in Jersey that Gov. Christie did things in advance. And I really don't care aboutthe "optics" of how Christie appeared with Obama. Obama is still the President, and Christie was doing his job by meeting with him.
But it appears that NYC was totally unprepared for what happened and is still flat-footed with respect to response. Sure, it appears that ConEd is getting the lights back on in Manhatten, but is sounds like Queens, Long Island and Staten Island are a mess and will be for some time.
There was no way the coast could have been "saved", but somebody shouldhave done "the math" and figured the peril that Staten Island was in.
I'm not a New Yorker or from the East Coast, but the whole thing is tragic, and the stupidity behind the tragedy is something that needs to be aired (but it won't).

That's the kind of long term planning that helps. There is not really a whole fucking lot that can be done when a storm is big enough to wipe entire cities away.... prepositioning sounds great, but if the storm is ripping houses off their foundations, it's taking all the prepositioned trucks and gear out, too.
People just don't realize how devastating hurricanes can be. You can prepare, but if the bitch wants ya bad enough, she is gonna take all your fancy preparations and laugh her ass off while she does it.

When you live in as densely populated an area as the tri-state area, the forecasters who gave you a week's notice of this monster were throwing a life line to elected officials who, probably because they don't deal with the stuff the Gulf state guvs do, didn't tell the people soon enough what to do.
I mean, for how many days were we looking at that monster from above?
Obama, FEMA, and even Chrisie and Cuomo and Nanny B. were derelict, IMO. I am not being partisan. It's as if they didn't figure into the calculus the population density factor and were relying on models of cat 1 storms that hit the gulf. Idiots.

It's hard to gauge the turn out numbers for battleground states versus those that are blue states.
I live in a blue state, CA. No Obama supporter here is worried that he'll lose the state, so many won't show up. We don't even see ads except for those in newly redistricted House districts, as mine is. The only ads for the Presidency I've seen are on national cable networks, like Fox, CNN, ESPN.
However, I am wondering that if one lives in a highly contested state, an OH and Iowa, and now WI or VA, I'd think the constant bombardment of ads are daily reminders that the race is close and that your vote really does count, whether you are strong Romney, strong Obama, leaning Romney, or leaning Obama. This is what scares me, that the battleground states will have much higher turnout than we can predict.
However, I have to rely on the expertise of guys like Barone, Rove, to keep my spirits up as I am a natural pessimist. It's hard-wired, traits for optimism or pessimism.

I hate to sound like a stone cold bitch here, but people have to take responsibility for their actions. That storm looked like it took up half the freaking Atlantic ocean. You get PLENTY of warning with hurricanes. If you choose not to leave, that's on you.
My family doesn't evacuate, ever. But neither do they then sit and bitch because help doesn't come within a week.
I don't know if there's still a lot of water on the ground, but they can't do a lot til that recedes. If the poles were all snapped, they take a good while to replace. I have no doubt there is plenty of inconmpetence to blame, but some of this stuff is sheer logistical hell, too.
We always assume we'll be without power for two weeks, minimum, if anything goes wrong here.
We always have a months' worth of food , water, etc, on hand, but we also know if we take a direct hit from a flood or a tornado, that food and water will be gone, too. Sometimes shit happens.

The NJ barrier islands were under an evacuation order as of Saturday October 27, 5 pm. Delaware's governor issued a state of emergency that same day, and closed the highways the next day. The original storm track had it coming right up DE bay, but then it changed and came in from the sea, making a hard left at Atlantic City/thereabouts.
PA's highways even closed on Monday.
Preparations were made. Barrier island residents were ordered to leave, but you can't pull people out of their houses.

What I am kind of asking pollsters is this: in 2008, we had ahuge turnout for mostly historical reasons, IMO. Yes, the economic pic was bleak and yes, McCain was weak, but many young people and certainly many Reagan Dems, and even some GOPers voted Barry for history's sake and before they knew what an asshole he was and how unprepared he was since the MSM never vetted him. Okay, so they voted with their hearts, wanted to be part of history-making, didn't vote in huge numbers because they thought the race was close.
Now, will many in the battleground states, those who in other years might be quite lazy about voting, be more apt to vote because the race is so close? When people feel their vote really matters, don't they turn out in much higher numbers than in usual elections? And, aren't OHions always proud of their "NoRepublican since blah, blah, blah has won the Oval w/out Ohio?"
Same with VA and Fla. Won't their "battleground" status drive them to the polls? It's the egocentric nature of people to like being the center of attentino and having power.

I don't have to read it to believe it. I fucking lived it, my eyes work. There were power companies from michigan in a staging area right down the street from me the NEXT day. They just didn't miracle their asses here. That crew is kicking ass too btw. I'm dealing in reality. I see how fast those dudes were here working. I have seen little evidence that any barrier island residents stayed behind, except one interview where I saw a YouTube video of a teen age girl say "Never again". I've watched probably an hour of helicop flyover images and all I see is emergency personnel and road crews trying to get the sand dunes off the streets. No cars in the driveways, anywhere.
As far as the barrier islands of NJ I can attest by living either on them or a short drive from them that they are predominately owned by rather well-to-do people as a second home.

The last paragraph from their explanation, written the day of the suspension of polling, is that they hoped to resume polling that tracked Thurday of last week through today, Sunday.

Given the size of Hurricane Sandy, the closest state without precipitation was Indiana. The main reason the PA, NJ and DE highways were closed is so emergency personnel and vehicles would have unrestricted access to deliver aid.
I don't know how the bureaucracy works, when exactly FEMA steps in after a governor declares state of emergency. I only know what the officials in my tri-state area did to prepare, none of them dropped the ball. I can't say the same for Nanny Bloomberg, who denied both FEMA assistance and National Guard presence in the boroughs.

Speaking of right again, I supported Perry in the primaries, until he cratered in the debates. I thought Mitt would be a wimp, a pushover for the Obama machine. I still think Rick Perry would be a good president, but it's clear now that the party nominated a strong candidate. Good point. My wife works with a women whose husband works for a Pa utility. A couple times a year he heads off to another state to help when they get overwhelmed by snow, ice, tornadoes, etc. The utility workers from other states come here when the situation is reversed.
If the story of NJ utility workers sending some of our friends from the south back home is true, I feel deeply saddened by their actions.

I watched the panel discussion with Hume, Trippi, Rove, some Dem guy from the NYTimes, and Wallace.
The question put to them was "What will the reason be if Romney loses? If Obama loses?" Damn, talk about putting the cart before the horse.
I watched it hoping to see Karl and his whiteboard as I did on Hannity on Friday evening, but they didn't go there.
Did I miss something else. I read upstream someone say that Hume said things were trending O, but Hume isn't a poll reader and he surely doesn't study the internals (gawd, I hope Rove hadn't given him any bad news, but I doubt it.)

painted on the doors. I can't say enough about them. They are really
good. They found a live wire 2 houses down because they just happened to
be driving by to another job site, and one of their guys saw a service
pole was pulled away slightly from a house, so they stopped to investigate to see
if the house had power, and found a live wire on the ground. They patched it up and away they went. Nobody in the neighborhood even noticed the wire, but these guys stopped on a hunch and bingo.

Nope, you have it wrong. If you want to buy a home on the waterfront with your own money you are fine. Go ahead, if it gets destroyed, you lose all your money. If you have to mortgage it, then you HAVE TO PURCHASE flood insurance. I have looked into the cost and it is the equivalent of purchasing the home ALL OVER AGAIN over a 10 year period.
So people make decisions, weigh the odds, pay their money, or not... But it doesn't cost Joe Taxpayer a cent as long as the premiums the government collect equal the amount they have to pay out.

Today Silver tweeted his model has Obama winning the EV 30 percent of the time, even if Romney wins the popular vote, provided Romney wins by 1 point or less.
That's a pretty significant chance.
Nevertheless, that also means if Romney does win the popular vote, then Romney wins 70 percent of the time.
So let's assume if Obama wins the popular vote, he wins the EC 100 percent of the time. Then we can use algebra to calculate Silver's probability (P) estimate Obama is going to win the popular vote.
(P x 0) + (1 - P) (0.7) = 0.15
0.15 is Silver's probability that Romney wins.
P x 0 = Romney's chance of winning with a popular vote loss. It equals 0, of course.
(1-P) (0.7) = Romney's chance of winning with a popular vote win.
Solving for P:
0.7 - P = 0.15
P = 0.55
Therefore, Silver's estimate that Obama will win the popular vote is only 55 percent.
That does not sound nearly as certain as most people assume, based on the electoral vote probability.

It was the National Guard and others making it there and road crews clearing downed trees on major highways leading to the Coast. There were hurricane strength winds 120 miles inland, huge trees down on highways. But you did not hear about all that from Geraldo. Churches got organized quickly and acted.

and exactly 17 out of 800 people said that "abortion" was their priority this elections cycle.
It was quite revealing when the Dem operative at the
Face the Nation round table this morning said that Romney would not win PA because of the independent female vote in the burbs of Philly--and she actually whipped out the "War on Womyn" talking point.
Well good luck with that--because only 17 out of 800 called that a priority.
If that's what they are hanging their hope on to counter the results of that PA poll--then obviously they didn't get a good look at the internals.

It's so simple to figure out the EV too. Just look at all the Sec of State's websites. If your getting 40% already voted, and only 10% actually have, then you are getting too much of an EV share.

At this point, I don't really know. That seem a little high to me, but I've gone from predicting solidish Romney win a little over a week ago, to narrow Romney win, to narrow Obama win.
A 2 point PV victory could come under that heading.
I think it'll be tighter than 2% though. Could go either way, but in a tight race, advantage Obama.
But you could be right about Pew's polling. My guess is nearly tied PV, Obama advantage EV.

The Pew Poll had D+4, not D+3.
I think they also had 86% of registered voters as likely voters. That's too high and accounts for the D+4.

Still, I'm disturbed by O's Sandy bounce. The problem isn't that he looked good helping so much, as that he got off the negativity kick he was on w/ "Romnesia" etc.
It also made global warming an issue.
Sandy changed the dynamic of the election. Still, I think the bounce is fading and will continue to fade.
I'm also in Philly and I can tell you we don't care about Christie as much as people think. And I don't think Sandy will help O as much as many do. If he wins PA he was going to win it anyway (IMO).

In 2008, I stopped calling other people "Eeyores", and was constantly called one myself. Nonetheless, I was still overly optimistic (they were just as out to lunch as I was in 2006).
In 2010, I predicted an outcome somewhere between Morris's 100-seat pickup and the 60 the GOP actually got. Again, called an Eeyore. Again, was overly optimistic in fact, with everyone else more out to lunch than I was.
I've made these exact points in several comments here.

Sandy is a big, fat nothing burger of the campaign. First, Sandy did not provide Obama with any leadership opportunity, only optics. The optics are not enough to overcome the major issues Obama has....mainly the economy.
Romney still leads significantly on every poll on who is best equipped to handle the economy. And the economy still remains the number 1 issue of this election.
Second,Sandy has not reversed the one criteria that is always important to an incumbent, right direction/wrong direction. It is still wrong direction, usually by +19 or +20.
As long as the economy is the number 1 issues, and as long as Romney continues to dominate that issue, then the momentum is Romney's.
Believing that Sandy has fundamentally altered the dynamics of the election is wish casting.

My own complaint about Romney, in line with what Kristol was saying the other day (but not because he said it; I've been saying it for weeks), is that Romney should have forced Benghazi onto the front page more.
He tried in the second debate, got slammed down by an unfair moderator who literally lied about reality, and didn't make a big deal of it again, because he's just not as personally confident in foreign affairs as on economics.
Which is understandable. Also unfortunate.
But he's still the right man at the right time.

Alternative explanation for what? No one convincingly understands what the double split experiment MEANS. Just what the data is, and that it can be reproduced over and over again.
You can even move the observer to the other side of the slit nearer the screen and it still holds true.
Possibly interaction with photons provides an explanation, but I doubt it's that simple. It's more fundamental.
I may have some ideas about it, but this is hardly a solved problem in physics -- at least the explanation for the data.
But go ahead, what's your crackpot take on the double slit experiment?

He did not completely praise Christie and Barbour, being Gov. during Katrina, quoted his ex football coach "Praise the person when you are with them, tell the truth behind their backs." The key point to remember is it's an experiment, not a theory nor a model. It's a surprising result, and most physicists don't claim to understand what the data means.
It is in no way, shape, nor form like the AGW hypothesis.

For the record: AGW hypothesis = probably wrong in the main, and in any case the temperature feedback effects seem to be mainly negative (dampening), not positive as the runaway manmade warming scenarios demand. The computer models are garbage.
I think Svensmark's hypothesis is closer to the mark, and of course it isn't widely accepted yet, but it's a serious scientific effort being investigated at CERN and elsewhere.
As for the double slit experiment - the most famous experiment in quantum physics (which you might have heard of) - it shows what it shows. The meaning is a mystery, although there are some ideas.

I'm gonna say it.
This video makes me understand something of how the Obama crowd must have felt going into the 08 election.
It's an incredibly dangerous feeling. After all, in the primary run-up, I was saying that Romney is the Democratic nominee for the Republican candidacy.
I'm going to have to work hard to keep in mind that Romney is not my friend, nor a friend of liberty.
I'm going to have to remember to boo nearly everything he does, other than his efforts to begin to dismantle a trend that's been building since Wilson, at least.
And I don't think he's going to do much of that.
I'm very, very hopeful, and it is that hope that terrifies me.
