Ann Romney at the CO rally looked almost bored. I'm sure she is. How many times can she listen to Mitt give the same speech and be welcomed like a conquering hero? Sucks to be her. On that topic, how the hell did Fox get away with showing the full 20 minutes of Romney's speech? That can't be legal. Not that I'm complaining. Everyone, don't forget this weekend's NFL game: Carolina @ Washington. Other than one year (IIRC it was 2004), when the home team wins, the party in power stays but if they lose, the party also loses. Not putting much hope into this given it is Carolina, lol.

Speaking of irritating: I've gotten at least one heavy-duty Mormon-bashing essay a day for three days. Mostly because I have an interest in religion, I guess.
In any case, it burns me because, while the basic facts are correct, the interpretations laid upon the facts - to make Romney's election into some sort of theocratic apocalypse - is just nuts. It's also offensive. I may find Mormonism to be actively silly, but I have never found Mormons to be other than good neighbors and patriotic citizens. Trying to turn people against Mormons is simply and egregiously offensive. lolz, I wonder how unmotivated the DNC base is.
For example, ace's tweet on Michigan yesterday. There are 5 million reg voters, abt 1.87 GOP voters floor min based on 2010 results with abt 1.3mil DNC floor. To get to 2.5m votes for the state, Romney only needs to GOTV enough R's and I's for about 700K extra voters of the remaining 1.9M who didn't bother vote in 2010. But with I's breaking for R by 2 to 1, that's not a tall order. Of course, in 2008, of the non-hard R floor, abt 2.8M votered for Obama, so there's either a big swing or no swing in DNC punch right now to overcome the 1.87M hardcore gop voters Posted by: joeindc44 is still above water level at November 03, 2012 07:34 PM (Z3ckx) 88

Obama losing on Tuesday will be very cathartic for the Democrat party. They will bitch and moan about the loss, but in the end the liberals will feel better. They've been holding in a very odoriferous fart for four years, and after it's released, they'll stink up the place for a period of time, and then return to extolling the virtues of socialism and Marxism. The excuse will be the same as every other failed regime's excuse. The wrong person was in charge and if we had only elected someone more left wing and better schooled in Marxist principles, and willing to stick their ideology up America's collective ass by force it would have succeeded. Mama AJ, 300,000 isn't all that much. Better than 0, yes. But the rule-of-thumb is 3L per person per day. Millions without power -> x3L -> xWeek -> lots. In our defense; Re: Shortage, Water, Bottled
It's not like anyone could have predicted some humungous storm was going to hit the NE. It's not like we even stock this 'water' everyone's talking about. Hell, the shelf life of bottled water is like what? Two, maybe three days? It's not like you can just open some magic tap somewhere in Mitt Romney's "Magic Land", and just fill tankers of water for literally pennies per ton. This is the real world, and with our budget cut to the very bone with barely a 300% increase in funding since our dear, and loved leader, President Barack Obama first took office, it's not surprising at all that as stretched so thin as we are that some temporary emergency shortages don't crop up from time to time. Hell...if you cheap bastards hadn't stiffed us on those spiffy (yet toxic) Katrina Trailers, I'm confident the ever vigilant offices of FEMA, and it's tens of thousands of dedicated employees, would at this very point in time have already decided on the seating arrangements for our first Emergency meeting on the Predicted Impacts of Hurricane Sandy on our Short Term Catering, and Entertainment Expenditure Request, and Report, (FY 2013), or EMOTPIOHSOOSTCAEERAR, for short. Krauthammer and Kristol are right, as usual, and Krauthammer and Kristol agree with me, as usual. Krauthammer's point -- Sandy helped Obama a lot and stymied, somewhat reversed Romney's momentum. >>>You were much more confident just upthread...
I predicted a 50-48 Romney win (as my best guess, with a larger win or a narrow loss to Obama both quite possible). That's a narrow margin. And that doesn't take into effect rounding. Plus the electoral map favors Obama more in a very tight race. So no, I didn't make a confident bold prediction Romney has it in the bag. I was mocking such over-the-top certitude yesterday. I think he's got the edge. I think he'd have had more of the edge had he brought up Benghazi more (Kristol's position). I also, agreeing with Krauthammer (and having made the point before he did), see that Sandy helped Obama. A lot. I was confident in a Romney win over a week ago. That's lessened since then. Still hopeful. Posted by: Samwise Gamgee the 3rd at November 03, 2012 08:17 PM (SKX2R) 314

Good news is I convinced an undecided FL voter not to vote Obama today. Bad news is she may not make it back home in time to vote on Tue (is in TX now). Telling her about Benghazi did the trick. She knew very little about it because she mainly watches CNN and some MSM even though she considers herself a news junkie.
She showed me a FL example ballot and there are about 10 presidential candidates on it. I think TX only had 3 or 4. Posted by: Mayday at November 03, 2012 08:21 PM (F3s39) 337

>>>Both live in a bubble with the extent of their knowledge being limited to what they read and hear from their media and political cronies out of Washington. I doubt those two have read a comment section of a blog or internet news site in their lifes
Maybe not, but I have, and I'll tell you the general mood on this blog was overconfident (above what the GOP actually performed) in '06, '08, and '10. I was very overconfident myself in '06, having bought into AJ Strata's "analysis". That was a bitter, bitter election, and made me reduce my estimation of the GOP's performance in each of the next two elections. Nonetheless, I believed at the last moment that McCain could pull it out in '08 and thought his last-minute push into PA meant something real. We lost way more than I thought we would (I knew we were behind at least). During that election, so many people were going on about Eeyorism, especially to Allahpundit and Ace, that Ace literally had to LIE to his readership to lessen the pressure and keep them engaged in the election, plus reading the blog. After the election, he wrote a post admitting he didn't have confidence in McCain to win and was basically bullshitting for morale purposes. Except he did, in fact, use the word "lie". In 2010, I thought the truth was somewhere between Morris's 100 seat pickup and the 60 we actually got. So even THEN I was overoptimistic Still called an Eeyore tons. So, my question for myself and you is, did I finally strike the right balance and shave enough of my optimism to get a realistic estimate? Narrow Romney win? Or am I overoptimistic again and Krauthammer's dejected demeanor in that video I linked to above is what I should be feeling? Find out in 3 days. Mrs. New and I don't understand "socks". What does it mean?
Long, long ago there was a newspaper idiot whose name escapes me that spent time making up false accounts and commenting on his own damn articles. "Written by a God of English" type over-the-top crap. He got caught and his excuse was "Well, everyone uses sock-puppets like this!" Or something. So: generic term for lying about identity beyond the normal "I picked an alias and I'm sticking with it." People -here- pretend to be, say "Joe Biden" saying things like "FOUR MORE DAYS!" or whatever. Because there's no actual -account- here, easy to put a fake name in. SO check the name if you're all like WTFBBQ?. But the five characters at the very end (MzQOZ in my case) are a hash (think: code) version of the IP address of my computer. No one (but Ace FBI) can figure out your real IP. But it's a signal of who is a pretending to be a random idiot with their hair on fire today. Pretty easy to identify -new- posters that way. Note that some people get new IPs from their ISP on a regular basis, and others have different hashes at different times of the day. And the majority of the true, complete trolls use proxies and are always different random hashes. (The others are actually submissives that apparently have no upper-limit on their pain tolerance.) It was approximately 4' X 4' with Obama Biden painted on it. It lasted about 4 days, before some practical joker defaced it. I saw it coming home at night so I could make out that "Go Browns" had been written in the middle of Obama Biden. And the next day going to work I saw the rest of the handiwork. They had spraypainted an "N" in front of Obama in orange. And an "No" infront of Biden, to make it "NObama NoBiden." I think the sign was gone by the time I came home that night.

A few days before the election in 2008, polls were showing Obama ahead by about 3-4 points, national polls that is; almost outside the margin of error. Turned out most of them were pretty accurate. So if polls, especially Rasmussen and Gallup (at least before Sandy) are showing a tie, then it really is probably pretty close. Hopefully Romney gets some separation in e next couple of days.

Do y'all remember the boated flatulent toad Michael Moore's Snak Ramen and and Hanes Whitie Tidy college tours of ye olde 2004 election? That was my raving lunacy that year. I had sons all over the state, at UF, FSU and USF, and this weapons-grade b.o. repulsive creature was here (there was a hysterical article that I never knew if it was satire, describing him coming to K-Mart to buy up ammo, as guns are bad after Columbine. He went to the head honcho of K-Mart munching on Doritos. Anyway, supposedly, the leather chair he sat on had to be thrown away he was so gross. Somehow that description never left me, but I digress. But this is why I always refer to him as weapons-grade body odor).
Anyway, some Florida tuition money was going to pay this creep 20K or something per speech, and I called everyone, ranting and demanding a conservative come to balance his circus act. I am sure there is still a file on me at UF, as I especially got under their skin. The chancellor of universities in Florida's office called me. I was on a roll. Gov. Bush's office had to soothe me. Anyway, the college kids would attend and, yeah, promise to vote for Kerry. Guess what? They slept in and/or forgot. All of Michael's money wasted on them while they got wasted after getting free underwear and dried soup. He was even registering them to vote. There were stealth GOP kids on campuses across Florida. At FSU, my favorite of all, Republicans showed up in masses on campus on election day, wearing Bush/Cheney buttons. My sons had told me that the kids were smarter than to fall for Moore (they were mortified by me, naturally, Honey Badger Mom). I just hated that he was even in the state, he is so repulsive. I am thinking it is more cool, thanks to Ryan and the fact that 50% of college grads can't find jobs, to be GOP this year on campus. But for those who are faking being Obamabots, they may vote GOP in the booth or just not bother. At the Romney/Ryan rally we hooked up with some of one of my son's friends, smart software consultants. There was a guy there who is a Dem they were working on. They said he claims to be for Barky but they think he will vote (R) in private. We'll see. There were a lot of high school and college kids there. Hurricane help President Messiah? In a sense it did not because it made people suddently decide to vote for BO after all but because it sucked up the news cycles for a couple of days when Mitt was making his final run. But BO the savior story is now no food/water/gas/misery story. Besides people don't vote based on a one day photo op. If they do then why do we bother with conventions, commercials, debates, and speeches.
I think Mitt handled Benghazi appropriately. He could not be seen trying to capitalize on the death of 4 Americans. I do think he thought the media, even with their bias, could not ignore the story. Yes, he may have been naive on that. Besides he did bring it up twice and look at what happened. Also, no campaign is perfect. If BO had better prepared for the first debate . . . If BO had given a better speech at his convention . . . Why I think Mitt wins: If BO is ahead in the polls why is there no talk of the Dems taking the House? Heck, the word is Reps maintain their current majority or add to it slightly. Why is it a given that the Reps will gain Senate seats? Obama voters are going to vote for Dems, right? There's no movement or enthusiasm down ticket in the Democrat ranks. Posted by: gary at November 03, 2012 08:58 PM (aUnng) 573

A few Ace standards:
Socks/sockpuppets - usually done to make a joke or mock a troll. Pick a name and comment with it for humor or to make a point. The Sock can have its 'memes' too such as the Charlie Gibson "never heard of it" one from an idiotic comment he made a while back. Integrity kick - There's a series of Paul Anka rant posts in the greatest hits sidebar, where he goes off on this hilarious tirade chewing out his band for not having integrity. Ewok references - The Ace himself has a slight resemblence to and refers to himself as an Ewok Hobos - hunting hobos and chugging Valu-Rite Vodka is a common callback here as well, basically a way of talking about a wasted and stupd life people joke about having Moron - and moron-ette, often just 'ron and 'ette. Refers self-deprecatingly to the commenters here. Breitbart and not reading posts - Andrew Breitbart, before he died, would come to this blog and he said he loved the comments, then joked that he didn't read the posts. At least, I think he was joking Long movie reviews - Ace goes into very great depth analyzing films and I love the posts but people giggle about how long they are. Pudding - Ace came up with the idea of being so very happy with the Democratic Party not winning the Massachusetts seat vacated by Ted Kennedy, he was going to dip his furry beanbags in pudding if Brown won. He was at the Brown celebration, handing out pudding cups. now its pretty much dipping anything. Johnny Coldcuts - a theme Ace used to do back a while ago where he had a picture of a sandwich with eyes that was for some reason hilarious and put foul mouthed captions under it. The Flaming Skull - when some major story comes out, Ace doesn't have a drudge alarm, he has a skull, on fire. Sometimes its altered, such as a feather to represent Elizabeth the fake Cherokee Warren or a hair helmet for news about Blagojevich. There are a lot more Posted by: Christopher Taylor at November 03, 2012 09:17 PM (r4wIV) 652

So obama had a big crowd with a free concert from katy perry?
And Obama with Stevie Wonder gets barely 200. So let us parse this. Remove Obama and musician from both sides of the equation. (Obama + musician) / 200 = (Obama + musician + boobs) / 20000 becomes 1 / 200 = boobs / 20000 hence 20000 / 200 = boobs therefore 100 = boobs We conclude that Katy Perry's boobs are a perfect 100. I guess from what I heard from the OH rally last night, all those stars like Rubio and the others "fanned out" to go to rallies elsewhere. Checked out Huckabee on Fox and he had Rob Portman on. Portman said what he did the other day, that "it's close" but he does believe they will win. I get the feeling (since I was unfamiliar with the Senator before he became Mitt's closest bud on the campaign) that he's an upbeat kind of guy, soft but firm voice, knowledgeable, and personable so maybe it's just his personality that is influencing me, but I sure got the impression he wasn't acting, that he thinks this is ours as long as we get out the vote. To the poster who told us what Campaign Carl Cameron said was the mood on Mitt's plane. Great. Barack has the Katy Perry fan base vote.
I prefer her quirky little sister Zooey Deschanel anyway. Other Ace themes: Cake Girl - a fairly recent one: http://tinyurl.com/d2msuwn Adorable girl holding a cake for a lucky bastard I hate guy named Ryan. Christina Hendricks - The actress with huge... tracts of land. Beloved of many 'rons. Things Jefferson Never Said (various volumes) - this came up when the left swore up and down Thomas Jefferson said "dissent is the greatest form of patriotism" or some other variant, back when dissent was good and Obama wasn't president. People had a lot of fun with this making up fake quotes by Jefferson in various volumes of books. Posted by: Christopher Taylor at November 03, 2012 09:21 PM (r4wIV) 668

Megadodo Publications are the original publishers of The Ace of Spades Style Guide. The company's headquarters were located on Ursa Minor Beta, in a pair of 30-story office buildings connected partway up their height by a walkway, so that the entire structure resembled a giant letter A. The relocation of the offices to a resort planet caused the company to lose much of its credibility among its customer base... The Megadodo lobby is always filled with grubby-looking morons wanting to complain about the Guide's many inaccuracies.

If they could vote with a "Facebook" like button, we'd be stuck with Bumbles forever...
That's a Democrat's wet dream. Make voting as easy and painless as possible, and then channel their media/"cool people" monopoly into convincing the young/stupid/and-or tribal that they're going to be outcasts if they don't do what everyone else is doing. I'm going to be relieved and hopeful after Romney wins, but at some point someone has to step up to the plate and break the ratchet. Close the borders, pass strict voter ID laws in every state, and, ideally, move voting stations to the centers of active volcanoes. Voting should be hard. I think Ace has avoided a handbook because Little Green Footballs had one, then went demented and started editing out their old standards like "religion of peace" from it to repreesnt their suddenly reversed new standards. And in an orwellian fit of dementia claimed they never had changed anything. Which brings us to..
Charles Johnson - and various variant spellings. Just mocking him for doing a total 180 on his various positions and claiming integrity. Ron Paul - usually referred to as Luap Nor and other things to avoid stating the word and summoning Paulites (like saying Beetlejuice too often). I read the Cleveland Plain Dealer article on the Stevie Wonder thing. Obama's campaign evidently didn't tweet out to their followers the notice that Wonder was performing at 10:00 am until 9:30. I don't know if that's true or not--it's what they said. The article went on to say that almost all those there said they'd already voted but busses were waiting for those who hadn't. Blacks are going to turn out, that's for sure. They might not reach the turn out of 4 years ago, but they'll be a hefty voting block. I am hoping Hispanics will not. I am hoping there are enough Reagan Dems to add to huge conservative and GOP turn out, but damn, think of all the brainwashing of generations of Americans in our public schools. Hope you did not get caught in the crossfire of the Great Bridgeport Pelt the Utility Workers battle today. Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at November 03, 2012 10:05 PM (EprWA) 844
"The 'in the barrel' phrase harkens back to Canadian lumberjacks apparently. In the remoteness of the Canadian forests at a camp full of male lumberjacks. Then take a barrel that has a hole about waist height off the ground. And tell the new lumberjack that his day in the barrel will come about real soon." . This In the barrel thing intrigues me. I like pickles. Do I back up to it or say ahhhh? Posted by: Barack Obama at November 03, 2012 10:05 PM (JKNDp) 845
Dianna at November 03, 2012 09:01 PM (mKMj1) Mostly because I've been Stevie Ray's adoring fan since I was about 14. The man was amazing. Top of his game, Montreux, 1985-ish. http://tinyurl.com/bzoz5r6 (Youtube link) Posted by: Sticky Wicket at November 03, 2012 10:06 PM (L7hol) 846

Tami, apparently the mayor of Bridgeport claimed the more wealthy areas got power restored first. So when utility workers went to work restoring power they were pelted with eggs and such by enraged city dwellers. Utility company had to pull their workers out to protect them.

So, on election night, is there going to be one synchronized pudding dipping moment, or are we supposed to act every time something awesome happens? 1) A major network calls it for Romney 2) SCOAMT concedes 3) The President-Elect gives his victory speech 4) Rachel Maddow cries 5) Chris Matthews drinks himself to death 6) Paul Ryan takes his shirt off I don't think we'll ever see #2. Don't ask me why, just a 'feeling'. Posted by: rabidfox at November 03, 2012 10:20 PM (xSbHD) 853
Anna that's too funny!!! I'm surprised it was only eggs....it is Bridgeport afterall.

Boy. What a dilemma! I've avoided it so far... The 'in the barrel' phrase harkens back to Canadian lumberjacks apparently. -Anna Ummm.. the extended version I heard as a kid involved sailors... I will not reload the page. I will not go looking for the overnight thread. I will spend some time with the Mrs now. I will also go vote Tuesday with great relish, with jalapenos, first in line at the polling place if I can, no matter that my vote is just one more in the tsunami of Romney votes that will be our totally not battleground state's! It's a Romney Tsunamni! Say g'nite, Gracies. Don't get here much lately. Glad to've been here for this one. Wrong. It's Stuff Jefferson Said (Vol. [ whatever ] )
and wasn't it Spurwing who insisted that Jefferson said whatever it was Credit Dave in Texas for "Stuff Jefferson Said." He had a troll going for a while with it, too. Posted by: Scobface at November 03, 2012 10:45 PM (IoNBC) 856
Barky Ocarter is going to lose his ass Tuesday. Trolls suck dick. MUMR is boring, pedantic and repetitive. I skip him. Scrotewise also gets the big skip over. Ed, Jimi, Gerg, all the usual scrote-bag trolls get skipped.
Far as Im concerned, the concern trolls don't exist. And I almost never sockpuppet, since there so many here who have it down to a science. Posted by: sandman will resist at November 03, 2012 10:57 PM (zxaA2) 857
Ugh.
With the latest Rasmussen tracking poll just out showing a tie, swinging the RCP average a little further in Obama's direction, and supporting my overall thesis that he regained the last-minute momentum with retards because of Sandy coverage (and thrice cursed Chris Christie who stepped all over Romney's closing argument of bipartisanship with a HUG, for fuck sakes!), and seeing the great Krauthammer dejectedly make my point about how lucky Obama is and how much Sandy helped him today on Fox alongside Kristol, I now half to adjust my prediction to: Narrow Obama victory (at least in electoral votes). And it sucks. It really does. Posted by: Samwise Gamgee the 3rd at November 04, 2012 12:53 AM (SKX2R) 858
Link to the Rasmumssen Daily Tracking poll if anyone wants to see the swing in momentum back to Obama at the last moment:
http://goo.gl/fNpW IF we win this, it's going to be based on turnout. Because Obama has the last-minute momentum, a point I've been making for a week (prior to which I was gloating to my Democrat friends, something which I've had to stop doing).
