Las Vegas Review Journal Slashes Obama as "Unworthy" of the Presidency Due to Incompetence, Cowardice, and Dishonesty

Harshing his mellow.

This administration is an embarrassment on foreign policy and incompetent at best on the economy – though a more careful analysis shows what can only be a perverse and willful attempt to destroy our prosperity. Back in January 2008, Barack Obama told the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle that under his cap-and-trade plan, “If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them.” He added, “Under my plan … electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” It was also in 2008 that Mr. Obama’s future Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, famously said it would be necessary to “figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” – $9 a gallon.

Yet the president now claims he’s in favor of oil development and pipelines, taking credit for increased oil production on private lands where he’s powerless to block it, after he halted the Keystone XL Pipeline and oversaw a 50 percent reduction in oil leases on public lands.

These behaviors go far beyond “spin.” They amount to a pack of lies. To return to office a narcissistic amateur who seeks to ride this nation’s economy and international esteem to oblivion, like Slim Pickens riding the nuclear bomb to its target at the end of the movie “Dr. Strangelove,” would be disastrous.

Candidate Obama said if he couldn’t fix the economy in four years, his would be a one-term presidency.

Mitt Romney is moral, capable and responsible man. Just this once, it’s time to hold Barack Obama to his word. Maybe we can all do something about that, come Tuesday.

Instapundit has a longer quote, and if you like that, go to the source and Read the Whole Thing.

Nevada's going to be tough -- but it's still very possible (see about midway through article).

If things fall through, remember, there is always a chance of a late win in Nevada.

30 In NV it's all about demographics. Las Vegas proper is a mini Los Angeles. Heavily unionized. Heavily Latino. Significantly black. Corrupt. Brass knuckled Democrat machine politics. The rest of the state is Republican, but can be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of Democrat zombies in Vegas. There's also the potential for a bitter ironic moment. In NV there are a lot of spooky waste case types. The sorts of people who wear Ron Paul T-shirts and who avoid bar code scanners and such. It's entirely possible that Romney loses NV -- and perhaps the entire election -- by the margin of cement heads who vote "Libertarian," or who write in Ron Paul, or who don't vote for Romney because he hasn't pledged to get us back on the gold standard, or whatever.

46 i used to go visit my fiancé when he was stationed at nellis AFB right outside of vegas.

it's pretty tough for me to believe that a state like nevada, so consumed with superficial glamour and consequence-free hedonism, could ever turn back red...especially with all of the illegals happily making their way into sanctuary nevada from neighbour arizona.

i always dreaded going to see my fiancé in las vegas...though it was nice to walk down the strip accessorised with a strapping intelligence officer, and tho i enjoyed seeings some of the classier shows, the whole vegas vibe was always discomforting enough that i'd be pretty anxious the whole time i was there.

i take it reno is the same way...and the rest of nevada is sort of like an unpopulated desert. seems like a pretty tough nut to crack at this point.

yes, we almost won with that sabotage-socon sharron angle...but that was vs. harry reid. obama's likeability numbers have got to trounce harry reid's.

''An Obama re-election organizer is facing
charges that he "grabbed" a Loveland woman's breasts while giving her a
campaign sticker on Tuesday, police said.
Luke M. Buchanan, 24,
of Washington, D.C. is charged with unlawful sexual contact, a
misdemeanor. The victim's name was not released. She is 21 years old,
police said.
He has since been fired from his job with the Colorado Democratic Party.
"The
female reported an adult male knocked on her door, identified himself
as a member of the Obama political campaign and asked to speak with her
about her voting status," Loveland police said in a statement Thursday
afternoon. "The victim reportedly spoke with the male for a short time
and he then asked if he could give her a campaign sticker. The victim
accepted and the male allegedly grabbed her breasts while applying the
sticker to her shirt."''

They are almost convinced to vote for Romney over the Benghazi thing--and quite frankly I don't know why it is mattering to some of these kids--but they seem to say--

there is not enough there, there to push them over the edge to vote for Romney--so they are going to sit out.

I am running into anti-Mormonism with that age group.

I guess the Mormon kids in high school are cliche--whatever.

We really should have never lowered the voting age.

100 This country is broken. To think that a man like Obama could be elected once is evidence of that. To think that millions of people will still vote for a malign nonentity twice means, to me, that we have gone beyond fixing the country.
The interests of Obama voters are not the interests of America. His supporters are not, really, Americans, but a hodge-podge of Communists, Fascists, and various social deviants.
I want Romney to win more than anything, but no matter the outcome next Tuesday, there's no fixing this mess while the Democrat Party is viable.
I'll shut up now. I had to get this off my chest.

126 I don't know what the Mormon makeup of Nevada is, but isn't it substantial?

I remember the day after the 2010 election, while Glenn Beck and Stu and Pat were still coming down from their epically hilarious gloat fest on election night, Beck was still surprised Reid had won Nevada. Pat Gray said "it's because he's a Mormon." Beck (of course also a Mormon, like Pat) was incredulous that Mormons would vote for someone so diametrically opposed to their values, but Pat insisted that Mormons voting for other Mormons, even crappy ones like Reid, was A Thing.

It would be cool if that same dynamic was at work next Tuesday in Nevada.

Posted by: @PurpAv at November 01, 2012 08:14 PM (n1f2c)

As if ... blades on a plane work at wind speeds far above hurricane levels while windmills have to shut down when the wind gets over 50 or 60 mph. Just when the wind is blowing for the optimum power generation the windmills shut down and do nothing but act as physical threats to life around them.

204 Feather the blades...just like on a prop plane when an engine fails.

I'd like to see how much of that gets factored into average windspeed.

When they are doing a feasability study to place (subsidized) windmills, they may show an average windspeed that looks like it will pay off to place a generator (along with support roads and transmission lines), but how much of the time is the wind blowing too fast for the generator to work.

248 Nevada Early Vote Update (12th day of 14)

After the 12th day of early voting, the Democrats have a lead of 40K raw voter numbers over Republicans; this shrinks to less than 37K when absentees that have been turned-in already are included.

After ten day of early voting in 2008, the Democrats had an advantage of 70K in Clark County. The Democrats raw vote advantage is down 77% in Clark County from 2008, though the total number of votes has increased by about 15%, relative to four years ago. This results in a 67% reduction in their vote advantage compared to 2008 for early voting. Absentees are coming in at about 15% of the early votes. At this 67% reduction in advantage for the Democrats, their projected early vote lead will be about 13.6%, or about 62K in Clark County. Assuming that early votes are about 70% of the total vote, and with an 80% turnout, this would give a lead for the Democrats in Clark County at about 75K

Washoe county continues to trend towards being an overall wash (pun intended) with a less than 1000 vote difference between Republicans and Democrats. The strong GOP turnout amongst the rural counties id the only thing that is blunting the Democratic raw vote advantage in Clark County of about 54K. With Washoe coming in about even, and the rural counties coming in at perhaps 25K in favor of the Republicans total, this would result in the Democrats having a raw vote lead of 50K. With an 80% turnout, this would result in a lead for Obama of just over 5%. This is good news for Sen. Dean Heller, who has been polling 4-6% ahead of Auton-American Shelley Berkley (D – Nestene Consiousness).

All of the above assumes that 2012 trends like in 2008 (with Democrat vote advantage shrunk to 67%, and 115% of the early voters). If the last two days for early voting are decent for the Republicans, the projected raw vote lead of 50K could shrink. This also does not take into account a potential increase in absentee ballots, which don’t have to be in until election day, and would almost certainly benefit the Republicans, which have an edge in absentee ballots in and reported of over 3000 votes. An improvement in the ground game on election day would further narrow the Democrats raw voter lead. At that point, who gets what percent of each parties or independents vote starts to really matter.

Some New York residents without power might have to wait another week.

Con Edison said it plans to restore power to the vast majority of affected customers by the weekend of November 10 and 11, citing "unprecedented damage" caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Some restorations may take an additional week or more, the company warned, but did not specify where the delays might occur.

On Thursday, there were 649,000 Con Edison customers without service in New York City and Westchester County.

The company expects to restore service to customers in mid to lower Manhattan by Saturday.

Con Edison released a statement on its website:

NEW YORK – Con Edison said today that based on an assessment of the unprecedented damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, it expects to restore the vast majority of customers who lost power by the weekend of Nov. 10 and 11. The remaining customer restorations could take an additional week or more.
About 900,000 customers served by underground and overhead electrical distribution equipment in New York City and Westchester County lost power due to the superstorm that walloped the area.

Con Edison crews have restored power to about 250,000 customers who were affected by the storm. As of 11 a.m., the company was working to restore power to about 650,000 customers still out of service.

Customers served by underground networks in Mid- to Lower Manhattan who lost power during the storm will have service by this Saturday.

Crews restoring service in those underground areas have pumped massive amounts of water out of the facilities.[...]

264 >>>Could be, but I guess you lose your warranty for that and you know that apple would sue your ass off if they could.

Nah, the courts have settled that; they can't.

I stick with iPhone both because I bought it a couple years back and why fix what ain't broken, and also because the app I use most is only on iPhone, and it's half the value I get from having the thing.

I like Windows PCs, and while Vista was a dog, Win7 is great. I hear Win8 is pretty promising too.

Had a Mac OS X as a work computer at a company that was big into Apple a few years back. I hated that thing with a passion.

Not easier to use, not at all -- not once you configure Windows to your liking, which you can do much easier.

The company went bankrupt. I'd like to blame their Apple obsession, but ... it was more the Internet, since they sold print advertising.

The iPhone's still pretty good though. Sure, Android's gotten much better and there's some great hardware out for it too.

267 When I was growing up in Vegas during the 60s and 70s, The Review Journal was considered the conservative paper.

Vegas was founded by Mormons and has a large population of them, in fact, the whole Sunset Mountain area was a very Mormon neighborhood, however I had many neighbors and friends that were Mormon. They basically ran the infrastructure of Vegas. There is a book called Saints in Babylon about how the Mormon community worked within the unusual environment that is Vegas. They were there way before the mob.

There are plenty of black people in Vegas. Busing started in my era and everyone was bused all over the place, which was silly because my neighborhood was pretty integrated.

Vegas and Nevada used to have some great politicians - Paul Laxault for example - but the migration of the rust belt state people during the Carter years changed the political landscape.

The unions were brought in a while back by the mob - of course...

Spent the first night with my parents which DID NOT go well. Spent the rest of that week with my MIL who gave up her bed in her tiny little house to me so I could be comfortable. Me and hubby and son cuddled in that bed, so thankful to be somewhere warm and inviting. She didn't have any electricity either but she had a gas stove. She turned the oven on every evening for a few hours to warm the house. I don't know how she did it but she made sure we had what we needed. I miss that woman with all my heart and soul.

I waited too much time while some Joint guys got into a macho off Navy vs. AF--while I wasted time trying to mediate that--boom--the interstates closed up and I had to ride it out.

Pretty funny seeing the scared faces of the tough guys when they saw what 95 miles an hour--constant can do.

307 @288, I don't take this as indicative of all or even most NYC dwellers, but...

... I was watching a real estate show on HGTV once about high end NYC apartments. A realtor was touring a really fancy flat and marveling at how pristine the stove and refrigerator were: "It's like they've never been used!" The seller said "They haven't. We go out for EVERYTHING." Again, of course most folks don't live like that, but they probably go out more than most, and probably don't have room for much food storage. It could be a real disaster.

A gay friend of mine in Philadelphia was on Facebook talking about being afraid of the storm, and going to stay with friends at a loft. Then he started joking around. I asked him if he and the boys were filling the bathtub and any other vessels with fresh water in case everything went to hell and he said "No, we're drinking and having boyfriend drama." Now, he's my friend and always will be, but there's a hell of a lot of unserious city dwellers who've had a big shock this week. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

But I had plenty of beer, ice for my cooler, and nonperishable food. It was starting to get a little chilly, though.

Last night I bought a Ray-O-Vac headlamp. It's an LED light that straps to your forehead and runs on 3 AAA batteries. The batteries are supposed to last 15 hours at the 'low' setting, which is plenty of light in a dark house. It cost $12.99 at Home Depot. I highly recommend it. It beats the hell out of flashlights.

From the ground game in Nevada, I have a few thoughts. In 2009 Obama said “you don’t go blow a bunch
of cash in Vegas” Vegas became toxic
for the convention crowd (Vegas' number 1 business). 100’s of conventions were cancelled; thousand
of people were laid off. Vegas hasn’t forgotten.
In 2008 McCain did not have the church vote and did not have much of the veteran
vote. 2012, the churches are walking out
of service and in mass going to the early voting sites. The Catholics for the most part voted for
Obama, not the case in 2012. The Mormons,
of course, are voting for Romney. The
union’s are silent this election. SEIU
is no where to be seen in Vegas. Culinary
Union has had a couple rallies, but they got scorned badly by Obama’s “don’t go
blow cash in Vegas” remarks too. They are mostly working the undercard races.

I have a few friends that are Latino. Some work in the
casinos. Not just causal Latino….the kind that, if you
ask for silverware at their dinner they hand you more tortillas. They are all voting for Romney. It’s the economy stupid.

Northern Unions work at gold mines and in the mining
industry. There are a lot of democrats
up north that know that Obama is the death of mining.

Ok…..there is the
Harry Reid deal….Reid successfully painted Tea Party candidate Sharron Angle as
a crazy woman and won re-election, even with only 15 percent popularity. Mormon
is about 12 percent of Nevada’s vote. Reid is Mormon. It was a fluke…..and we are soooooo fucking
sorry about that one……..

340 Been a long time since I posted here. Got pretty disgusted with politics after McCain screwed the pooch in 08. I'm in Reno and from what I'm seeing is there is not a lot of enthusiasm for ether candidate, few signs, few bumper stickers, not even old OB 08 stickers can be seen. I voted on Tuesday and there was a good size line because one of the label printers for recording your signature was out of labels, I voted and it recorded my vote correctly. Most in line were gray hairs so no telling who they were voting for. Heard from a co-worker whose sister is still in college that the student body is not enthused at all with voting this time so there is that.

341 People who feel like those of the Review are not people who are likely going to accept many more shenanigans. They just don't know themselves yet the extent to which they are not willing to accept it. Haven't even really thought about it. But they can teach themselves.

Democrats are fooling themselves if they think they are going to be able to just hold on, get Obama elected, and somehow outlast whoever opposes them as things get rammed through. They do not understand they are starting to create serious opposition to what they desire where none never existed before.

It's the political equivalent of Newton's Third Law, just out of phase. It's a political feedback loop that threatens to be much greater than the stimulus.

342 238 Tami, be strong. Hopefully, this won't last long for you.

This is about the time that I start giving away my next post, the failure of the concept of everybody being concentrated in city centers. As we've seen in NYC, large concentrations of people in cities are especially succeptible to any disruptions in services: witness the dumpster-diving. Mass transit doesn't work. Gas shortages cripple.

TFG's War on the Suburbs will destroy the American Dream of self-sufficiency.

******************

Not to get all tinfoil-hatty, but did anyone else notice back in 1999 the big spree of "sound barriers" going up around cities with a beltway? These are nice concrete walls that are supposed to keep highway noise away from people who stupidly bought houses right next to the freeway and then were angry because of the noise.

I haven't seen them in Dixie so much, but they were all the rage up in the Midwest. 4" of reinforced concrete won't stop a tank or an RPG, but it would do a fine job of corralling a restless mob with nothing but hand tools. For a while, anyway.

343 Clint Eastwood is on Hannity now. Hitting great points on Obama failing in general and particularly upset with all the Benghazi mess. "I'm feeling very resentful about what's been happening in Benghazi, that was a tragedy that never should have happened, or there should have been an attempt- that's all you can ask for in a crisis like that, an Attempt. That's the American way." (Paraphrased)

Also - "The American people deserve the best- because they are the best."

Sean @ 52. Uh .... have to dissent re DOD sub-cabinet level. At least at the very top of that category: DepSecDef.

Bill Lynn. Bill fucking LYNN, DepSecDef? Are you kidding me?

Nice guy, funny guy (far as I know, and I knew him and worked around him in the 80s). But perhaps a prototypical Hill Dem lightweight. Almost got him to understand how idiotic his boss's (Teddy K) amendment to halt any further fleetaircraft carrier construction was, during a trip. DepSecDef, one of the most powerful and important jobs in human history (seriously, think about it)? No more mind-blowing than the affirmative action non-entity with no experience who was made president, or the long-time laughing-stock obscure buffoonwho was made his VP, I suppose. But come on.

Anyway, from Wolfowitz (one of the most serious defense intellectuals to ever hold a senior DOD job) to Bill -unbelievable. Hamre during the Clinton years (another Dem Hill guy) was at least somebody withSOME gravitas. But the Clinton years were chock full of jaw-droppingly unfit lightweight Hill staffers in senior foreign policy/national security slots.Because the Dems have no bench, not any more. Up to even the Carter years, it was no problem for a Dem WH to find experienced, respected statesmen to fill the senior posts that had been so high-profile from Pearl Harbor to Vietnam. Then - poof!

Vietnam destroyed the ability and fitness of the Dem party to handle national security matters, on the whole. The transformation into an empty, irresponsible, clueless, despicable force for evil in foreign policy was completed on January 12, 1991, when the Senate could barely pass the first Gulf War resolution (I recall hardly believing what I was seeing - something that of course has become a daily experience now for several years). I well remember several good friend Senate staffers for Dems who were stunned and devastated by that event. It was, literally, the breaking point for them and their (high level) association with the Dems.

The GOP establishment has had a dramatically worsening bench for some time (Powell). So that's also a problem. But the other side will take the WH, sometimes (not this time). All the Dems have is theirlightweight Hill staffers, and other hacks and ideological idiots. This is bad for the Dems, and a disaster for the country and the world.

352 There is almost no enthusiasm for Obama here in Nevada. It'll go red.

Vodkapundit has a source that tells him more than half a million people have already cast ballots in early voting. As that is more than half the record number of people who voted in 2008, I find that very difficult to believe.

Racist Right calls Obama a traitor over death of FOUR Americans, But calls Bush a Patriot over the death of thousands! Sean Insanity uses suffering people as "prop" to demean Obama's efforts while Hate-Radio and Romney does NOTHING to help!
It’s disgusting how President Obama is being vilified for the death of FOUR Americans. It was a horrible tragedy but it also shows another mental problem with the right, and that is being hypocritical to the bone.
With the election next week, the party of racists, bigots, extremists haters are NOT hiding the hard-core fact that they don't want black people in the White House anymore. That proof is in the pudding.
You right wing nuts blame Obama for everything from how your kid does in school to the weather conditions.
I’m supporting Obama because generally speaking I believe he is tilting the country in the right direction, particularly from an economic perspective, whereas the Republicans would do irreparable damage to the economy and gut vital social programs that are a lifeline to many Americans just like they did for eight years Under Bush.
Wow so let's see shal we? Despite alledgedly being nothing more than an unqualified "community organizer" we now have a guy that can have people killed, controls the tectonic plates and can call down earthquakes at will, has the power to manipulated the global media, is going to circumvent the Constitution to obtain a third term, somehow is taking guns away despite only a single significant bit of gun legislation during the term which actually expanded gun rights, and is simultaneiously both the messiah and the antichrist. Wow I can understand why you oddballs are so frightened by this uberman
No doubt Obama-haters like here are without dobut the biggest racists in American History. Bigger than the KKK, bigger than the Nazi. Bigger than Rush Limabugh!
The party of racists, bigots, extremists, homophobes, AND hypocrites scream bloody murder over the fact that FOUR Americans die under a “lie” that President Obama told, but then again these exact same hypocrites didn’t whine, in fact, they didn’t care or mind that hundreds and thousands of Americans died under a lie President Bush told. They didn’t mind that they died for an unjust war or that they died looking for weapons of Mass Delusion.
That is a fact!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Terrorist Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Traitor Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Communist Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Marxist Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Socialist Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Muslim Is an Un-American Racist AND a Bigot!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Liar Is an Un-American Racist AND a hypocrite!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Fraud Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Enemy of America Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Destroyer of America Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Murder Is an Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Evil Man Is an Hateful Un-American Racist!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Homo Is an Un-American Racist AND a lying homophobe!
Anyone who sees Obama as a Failure Is an Un-American Fact-challenged liar who thinks 8 years of Bush was a Success!
I think in some republicans minds he is a virtual communist, but in reality he is nothing of the sort. Hell! He's NONE of these things! Just a Black man as President who doesn't scare Americans, just the party of racist, bigots, extremists, homophobes who will go as far to exploit the suffering of Americans, like Sean Insanity to demean the President!
POS SCOAMF - nicknames for Obama popularized by Brain-dead racists and Dog Fellaters.
"The Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work...
and then get elected and prove it.” - P.J. O’Rourke
Who knew after four years I was right! You people are a disgrace to all Americans! You clearly aren't a Christian with that mouth .... and the others who speak the same pathetic language you do. YUK !
