Horse Platitudes, or Barack On Through To The Other Side

So, this morning we awaken to find out that Team Barry's narcissistic obsession with memes that begin with the letter B (Binders, Big Bird) now encompasses "bayonets."

This meme was birthed (another B word, since that's all Barry can seem to remember) during an exchange the soon-to-be-ex-president had with Gov. Romney in last night's debate. As you'll recall, Gov. Romney had just schooled Obama on the fact that under his watch the United States Navy has fewer ships now than it did in 1916.

This fact prompted the man who is about 2 weeks away from planning his presidential library to respond thusly:

Obama snarked that “we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military’s changed.”

I only know of one place in which this assertion by President Obama is true: Benghazi. We certainly didn't have any bayonets there. Then again, Benghazi is the only B-word that Team Barry seems to have trouble talking about.

Instead, the president's comment was just another platitude: an empty statement made as if meaningful. And, thanks to Jim Morrison, I now have a handy go-to term for the president's statements:

I simply refer to them as being Horse Platitudes.

I decided to do a little research this morning. (Very little, I'm lazy, and I don't have nearly the staff that the President of the United States does). And look what I found on the first website I visited, which just so happens to be the official website of the United States Marine Corps:

From 500 yards, every Marine is accurate with a rifle. Attach the OKC-3S Bayonet, and the weapon becomes just as effective in close combat situations. Also a Marine's multi-purpose fighting knife, the OKC-3S is the weapon of choice when shots can't be fired. Every Marine receives bayonet training in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) and on the Bayonet Assault Course in Recruit Training.

In addition, Ben linked an article in his news dump this morning that states the following:

But horses and bayonets both remain vital parts of the U.S. arsenal.

The Daily Caller won a prestigious Edward R. Murrow award this year for a war report about the American soldiers who — riding on horseback — were the first U.S. forces to fight in Afghanistan after the 9/11 terror attacks. (RELATED VIDEO: Secret mission: The Horse Soldiers of 9/11)

And bayonets remain a fixture in Army infantry training and deployment. On August 6 a blogger at the Gizmodo technology website reported that the military was trading in bayonets for a “tomahawk”-like hand-to-hand combat weapon, but it later emerged that the source of that erroneous report was Duffelblog — a military spoof website modeled on The Onion.

Ahh...that Barry...don't you love it when the Commander-in-Chief gets his military info from a source with all the same level of rigorous fact-checking and subject matter expertese as....The Onion?

I had another thought when I watched this last night. Barry doesn't much care for the ships that are built in Virginia. And Biden pretty much said we don't need M-1 tanks built in Ohio anymore. And, bayonets are just so passe...unless DARPA is working on a Strategic Unicorn Skittles Bombing Drone, I'm not sure there is a single weapons system out there that will pass muster with this mal-Administration.

But Barry did "win" a Nobel Peace Prize. So he's got that going for him. Which is nice.

Anyway, to keep my string of pop-culture posts intact, I'm including a user-made mash up of the Doors' "Horse Latitudes/Moonlight Drive" video for your amusement/horror.

After 4 years of the Obozo regime, I now understand fully what Jim Morrison meant by his "mute nostril agony" lyric. I feel it everytime Obama issues another one of his Horse Platitudes.

Feel free to follow me on Twitter. I'm @jackmcoldcuts, and I freaking rock.

9 Let's not forget that in addition to telling VA that ships are no longer necessary, Obama told Colorado that the Air Force is useless and Florida that the space program is over.

Yes, its hard to believe that the same administration that showed off Russian naval ships to show its support for the military is really not all that for the military at all. But he got BIN LADEN - another B word.

I want a Prez that will provide our military with what they say they need in order to be successful, whether it's destroyers, subs, or bayonets--if they say that's what they need.

But it was a snarky response to a statement chock full of substance:

R: Our Navy is old — excuse me, our Navy is smaller now than at any time since 1917. The Navy said they needed 313 ships to carry out their mission. We're now at under 285. We're headed down to the low 200s if we go through a sequestration. That's unacceptable to me.

The jerk should ask the actual MEN who had to use those bayonets in HAND TO HAND combat! I loved his "ships that go under water" you know what Obama....you are STILL CUTTING THOSE AS WELL! When the Navy says they need 313 ships and you gloat that 285 and decreasing is a good thing "because some ships go under water" it shows you how ignorant you are of the World and America's rolein it. A diminished US in the world will only invite more terror, more unrest and more conflict. And a strong Navy with the capacities to protect the world's waterways is VITAL!! And again Obama tell the Marines that use those Bayonets how "outdated they are."

103 " A diminished US in the world will only invite more terror, more unrest and more conflict."

I agree, but maybe this would be the wake-up call the world needs to stop supporting jackasses like Obama for President over here. Once they get a taste of what it's like when the US withdraws from the world (I got a pretty good idea of what it will be like, since we've got, oh, about 5,000 years of recorded history as a guide), they'll possibly come around.

That and the resulting chaos would practically guarantee the death of the environmental movement in this country, as our need for energy would have to be filled by more domestic sourcing.

So, short-term pain, long-term gain? I don't know, just trying to find a potential silver lining around the possibility that this dumbass could win a second term.

As a side note, the Somali pirate problem has really calmed down in the past year. Partly because of patrolling by sophisticated naval vessels, but mostly because of a couple of skilled US Navy SEAL snipers and the fact that merchant shipping began to finally hire mercenaries to ride along on their ships and shoot back at pirates before they get the chance to climb on board.

112 "we got these things called Aircraft Carriers" .....Yeah we do obama and you want to cut the amount we have to 10?

Under heavy pressure to find real cuts, U.S. Navy officials are considering decommissioning a nuclear aircraft carrier halfway through its planned lifespan, two Pentagon sources confirmed.

The USS George Washington's three-year-long refueling overhaul, scheduled to begin in 2016, would be canceled under the scheme, and the ship would be decommissioned as its reactor fuel ran out.

Along with the carrier, the Navy could also disband one of its 10 carrier air wings - a move that would save roughly as much money and people as cutting the ship.

Decommissioning the GW would leave the Navy with a 10-ship carrier fleet, a move that would need to be approved by Congress. U.S. law currently mandates an 11-ship force.

He and his goddamned guests were of course talking about last night's debate. It wasn't news analysis, it was a goddamned cheering section. The goddamned show had a reporter from the NYT, another from Time, some writer dude I've never heard of, and a goddamned asshole from The Atlantic. All four of them plus the goddamned host were gushing from their vaginas about Obama, and were nitpicking everything Romney said.

The goddamned levels of hypocrisy and blatant dishonesty were startling, even for goddamned NPR. According to the host and his guests, we don't need a big navy because SCIENCE! and anyway Obama's building more ships right now, and Romney's going to start a war if he wins, and he doesn't understand the pressures Obama faces daily, and the US can't really change the international situation anyway. These goddamned lying hypocrites either don't notice or don't care that their excuses and justifications are self-contradicting. I guess they figure the goddamned listeners are idiots so it doesn't matter.

I'd listen to something else when I drive, but only the goddamned NPR station has tax-funded repeater antennas in every goddamned county of the state so it's the only station that doesn't sound like VOA being jammed by the Cubans.

From: http://tinyurl.com/yje3nka

"A further distinction of The Old Guard is the time-honored custom of
passing in-review with fixed bayonets at all parades. This practice,
officially sanctioned by the War Department in 1922, dates to the
Mexican War in 1847 when the 3d Infantry led a successful bayonet
charge against the enemy at Cerro Gordo. Today, this distinction is
still reserved for The Old Guard alone."

The fire she suffered a few years ago really tore her up. If they had to let a carrier go, it would be the GW. Had nothing but problems since.

Look at what he effectively said to Romney: "You are dumb and backwards because you don't know that ships are obsolete. Why, now we have ships that go underwater, and ships that planes land on. So, obviously, duh, we don't use ships anymore, and you are dumb."

Even he refers to his supposed 2nd example of a new technology that has replaced ships as "these ships".

It was utterly incoherent, and no one seems to have noticed, on either side.
