| Claire McCaskill: The Good News Is, Our Emissions Are Down, Because of the RecessionFrom March 28, 2011. Via Gateway Pundit. After she realizes what she's said, she insists she meant this sarcastically. Doesn't sound sarcastic. It sounds like she's calling this a "silver lining" (her words) for real. And it does reinforce something about Obama and the Obama Democrats: People are not their priority. Jobs are not their priority. Prosperity is not their priority. They have higher priorities. They wouldn't mind jobs -- but it's not their top priority. Their top priority is global warming and "fairness." As Obama said, when Charlie Gibson asked him if he'd raise capital gains taxes even if such a hike resulted in, as it has historically, lower tax revenues: He would still raise taxes, because "fairness" is more important than real-life consequences. They tend to think this way. They love "The Masses" in the abstract, but aren't big fans of actual people. There's a very strong Eggs/Omelet type of thinking here. And speaking of:Neera Tanden, a former aide to both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, had this to say about the relationship of the two presidents:It's also like attempting to run a 300 million strong country without ever having managed so much as a hot dog truck, but I take your point.Clinton, being Clinton, had plenty of advice in mind and was desperate to impart it. But for the first two years of Obama’s term, the phone calls Clinton kept expecting rarely came. “People say the reason Obama wouldn’t call Clinton is because he doesn’t like him,” observes Tanden. “The truth is, Obama doesn’t call anyone, and he’s not close to almost anyone. It’s stunning that he’s in politics, because he really doesn’t like people. My analogy is that it’s like becoming Bill Gates without liking computers.” Comments1

Building a power base
The prince was erecting the foundations of a power base, diving into countless local races by endorsing candidates, seeding the region with mayors and other local officials who would be loyal supporters. But he could be mercurial, former associates say. Jackson sometimes boasted that he was a reincarnated Greek chariot driver, Coconate said. “I really thought he had a problem with reality,” Coconate said. “He’d get in his own little world. He’d come out with outlandish things.” At one of Jackson’s hangouts — a Turkish bath — he’d prance naked, demonstrating martial arts moves, while the others stayed wrapped in towels, said Frank Avila Jr., a former supporter who is a Democratic operative. Jackson’s language could be shockingly inappropriate, especially for someone who grew up at the epicenter of the modern civil rights movement, former associates say. Coconate, who is of Italian heritage, recalls Jackson calling him “Scungilli Head,” a reference to an Italian seafood dish. Jackson called older African American lawmakers “plantation Negroes” and whites were “lemonheads,” according to Coconate and Avila. Frank Watkins, a spokesman for Jackson’s congressional office said, “I’ve never heard him say anything remotely like that. It sounds completely foreign to me.” Avila was doubtful about Jackson’s offer to help him in what would eventually be an unsuccessful race for Water Reclamation District commissioner. It was a minor race, he said, but Jackson insisted that he take a $12,000 poll, using Jackson’s pollster. Jackson also required him to use an expensive photographer to snap shots of them together, only to discover that he would merely be digitally added to a stock image of Jackson. Campaign spending questions have been raised for years about Jackson. In 2007 and 2008, Jackson’s campaign spent more than $22,000 on nine trips to Ozio, a restaurant on M Street in downtown Washington, where his alleged mistress — a former swimsuit model — worked. When's the last time you heard them bitching about the hole in the Ozone layer?
In theory, the CFC ban fixed that problem. Trouble is, the science basically said that (chemically speaking) there was already enough CFC in the atmosphere at the time of the ban to completely obliterate the Ozone Layer. The dirty secret was that no one had a clue whether free CFCs would actually circulate up that high. Posted by: Meiczyslaw at October 16, 2012 02:33 PM (4+LTj) 60

The Akin thing may work out for everyone in the end. It wasn't just the RINOs that attacked him, it was Rush, Levin and others as well. To get all the GOP united like that took an incredibly asinie statement. Arguably, that prevented any lingering damage to Mitt. The Dems decided to make their whole convention about contraceptives, and were only saved by Clinton. As many of us said then, Akin could still, and would likely win. That may be true.
Posted by: Meiczyslaw at October 16, 2012 02:33 PM (4+LTj) In other words, it was likely there until technology was able to see it, they panicked, blamed it on CFC's because, who would question. Now, 30 years later, the hole is still there, expanding and contracting as it always has, but it's not a problem because we banned CFC's. Posted by: © Sponge at October 16, 2012 02:39 PM (UK9cE) 99

There is really no way of knowing what the best and proper response should have been on the Akin statement. But there may be no reason to care right now. Even though Rush and Levin were against him too, he was able to say that the RNC was against him. I'm guessing that was a benefit to him in many circles. If he wins, all can be forgiven. Iagreed at the time, it was right to push back, but at some point, it is time to let it go and work together. If, and when, he wins, then that is the time. To punish him further does us no good.

I cannot stand the fact she represents my State. She is dull witted, vapid waste of skin that sucks the souls out of newborn children. She is immoral, corupt, and most dangerously..... just plain stupid. Posted by: fixerupper at October 16, 2012 02:59 PM (C8hzL) 174
Love it. I live in Oklahoma and have spent a lot of time in Missouri and I knew that to be the case. I figured everyone except the shrillest of abortion fans would shrug and say to themselves, "Screw it, a vote for Akin gets rid of that scrunt mccaskill."Lesser of two evils is a law that usually remains in force. Especially when the difference is as big as it is with Akin/mccaskill.

Aside from the ludicrous interpretation of the comment that you've applied, did you even bother to notice the SoCons sticking by him, even while admitting that they didn't agree with his comment
The interpretation he admitted to you idiot. Were you not aware of him talking about in his "apology" how he admitted that he only recently learned that yes it was possible for a woman to get pregnant from a rape. Thus when he did his whole "shutting things down" line he really did think that any woman that got pregnant from a rape wasn't really raped. "No, you didn't. Both times you said that we CHOSE to GIVE the seat to Democrats."
I said that, because that's essentially what you did. In the same way that people supporting Virgil Goode and Gary Johnson are choosing to hand the Presidency back to Barack Obama. Seriously, if you can't get it together to support the candidate who was chosen by his constituency, then you're helping the other guy. That's the way the two-party system works. You can beclown yourself trying to deny it in this case, but ultimately, reality reasserts itself - if you were involved in continuing to help undermine Todd Akin's campaign, then you were helping Claire McCaskill keep her seat. You were helping the Democrats block future efforts to repeal ObamaCare. You were helping the Democrats keep President Romney's SCOTUS nominations from taking a seat on the Court. Was Akin's comment stupid? Incredibly. Was it worth a losing a Senate seat over? No way. Posted by: Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus at October 16, 2012 03:03 PM (+inic) 178

At this point, it would be stupid for the NRSC not to jump in this race. A million dollars will win this for Akin, it would be stupid not to. The state is going Romney by double digits, it's going to take an enormous amount of split ticket voting to pull McCaskill across the finish line.
I loathe Akin as much as anyone, but I don't think Claire McCaskill being a Senator another 6 years is going to make me feel better about it. Posted by: McAdams at October 16, 2012 03:12 PM (OLioJ) 183

Oops, no. Go back and read both his original comments AND the comment im his apology TV ad again. In his original comment, he said that pregnancy due to rape was "rare" - not that it was non-existent, so right off the bat, your interpretation of events is incorrect. Now, Akin claimed to have heard this "from doctors." Okay. A case of perhaps misinterpreting information from experts by a non-expert, who knows. What would a doctor have told him? Probably that pregnancies from rape are "rarer" than other types, which is true, mainly due to the issue of a rapist having a lower chance of having intercourse with a woman during the fertile period in her cycle than of a husband doing so with his wife *when they're TRYING to hit her fertility point*. Incorrect understanding on Akin's part? Sure. But he did NOT actually say that rape NEVER results in pregnancy, nor did he ever imply that if a woman was pregnant, it must be because she wasn't really raped. That was nothing but spin applied by people who *wanted* for that to have been what he said, so they could use it against him. This being said, his comment in his apology AD was not "retracting" an earlier statement about pregnancy never resulting from rape. He was clarifying the opposite - which has to be interpreted in light of what he *actually* said earlier, not what you *heard* he said through second-hand information or which you *hoped* he had said so that you could join in calls for undermining his candidacy in this race. @182: I've gotten the impression NRSC *is* in, they just aren't advertising it much. The entire "war on women" narrative was a failure before the conventions, and the first debate ended it completely. Also, voters in MO realized the alternative was Claire McBatshit.
