Six-in-ten voters say they watched at least a little of last Thursday night’s vice-presidential debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan at Centre College in Danville, KY. Among debate watchers, as many say Biden did the better job (47%) as say Ryan (46%). … Republican voters overwhelmingly say Ryan did the better job in the debate (88%); a comparable percentage of Democrats (89%) say Biden did the better job. Among independents, 50% say Ryan did better, 39% say Biden. Posted by: Jay at October 16, 2012 10:12 AM (3LaGb) 41

So, I see on Gateway Pundit that the JEF's big plan tonight is to call Romney on his flip-flops; something I've seen peculating among the lefties (they have some YouTube clip of "Romney debates Romney" they think is clever and truthy).
Anyway, "Go for it Champ." Please do, please. Because not Bachmann, nor Perry, neither Cain, nor Santorum and certainly not Gingrich dared challenge Romney on his flip-flops during the primaries--such calumny would have been too far out of bounds. As Senator Clownfart says, "I was there!" If they really think calling Romney on his flip-flops is a fresh, new attack that Romney won't be able to explain or counter, well, could we really be so lucky to have such opponents? On the other hand: I suspect a double-down on the Biden Strategy is really the play they are going for here. No, not the "be an asshole and a jerk." No: The JEF is going to try to get ad and teevee news footage at all costs. The JEF is probably going to try to fluster and stymie Romney; he's looking for a clip of Romney stumbling and stuttering. And he is going to go all out to get it. He needs it, he has to have it, the "comeback" narrative requires footage of him getting Romney on the ropes. Problem is for Mr. Debater, better men than he came at Romney and not a one so much as made him sweat. He smiled, maybe a little chuckle, then completely ruined them. Re: the "explosive" revelation about Obama- the DC is really hurting themselves with these (if Jim Treacher still lurks: take this to your bosses). This is the second or third one, in a row, that was a big nothing burger.
No one is surprised that Obama and "Rev" Wright have deeper political ties. Nothing that happened before the 2008 election (as far as Obama goes) is going to move the needle. His adherents either don't believe or don't care, his opponents already oppose, and the middle is going to think, "Well, why didn't you bring this up back then?" So even if you do find something truly explosive, before long, no one is going to check in when you say you've got some "explosive revelation," because they're going to remember all the nothing burgers from before. Problem is for Mr. Debater, better men than he came at Romney and not a one so much as made him sweat. He smiled, maybe a little chuckle, then completely ruined them.
Not to mention that Jugears is passive-aggressive. He's a tough guy when no one's there to challenge him. He folded like a cheap suit during the debate but at his rally the next day he was cocky and all snark. I don't think he has it in him to be forceful and aggressive without seeming desperate, nasty, or just plain phony. Posted by: Ghost of Lee Atwater at October 16, 2012 10:41 AM (JxMoP) 218
Kos explains the PPP poll demos in his final paragraph:
Finally, a demographic note—in this poll, 44 percent of respondents were conservative, compared to 16 percent who were liberal. In 2008, 34 percent were conservative, and 22 percent were liberal. Now this could point to a bad sample, or it could point to depressed enthusiasm among our base. Let's really hope it's the former. Posted by: Count de Monet at October 16, 2012 10:41 AM (BAS5M) 219

Why does Mitt Romney want to kill old people? Why does Mitt Romney want to rape women and force them to keep any pregnancy that might result? Why does Mitt Romney want to stone gays? Why does Mitt Romney want to kill sick people? Why does Mitt Romney hate teachers? Why does Mitt Romney want to lynch black people? Why does Mitt Romney want to push illegal immigrants into big ovens and set them on fire? Why does Mitt Romney belong to a cult? Why is Barack Obama such an awesome guy? I may need an invasive ultrasound to find my head after tonight. That ad is so fucking stupid. Just WHAT is an invasive ultrasound? Don't these idiots know how an ultra sound is done? There is nothing invasive except the jelly on your belly.] Someone may have already told you this because I haven't read the rest of the comments, but there is another kind of ultrasound where the little camera goes in the vagina. It's way less invasive than the procedure whereby the baby got in there, but that's another story. I had one of those kinds of ultrasounds when I didn't know I was preggo yet and the Dr. suspected it. It was less bothersome than that other thing they stick in there and it was pretty cool because you could already see the baby on the screen and it had only been about three weeks since he was made. I love abortion debates on Ace. I'm not surprised with the Times editorial. Frankly that is the only arrow they have left. Vote for Obama or Roe gets overturned. It's ok if that is one of your issues, but when it is your only issue, it probably won't work. For the reasons they fear, the Times knows that a majority of the people in this country favor some abortion prohibitions (if not an outright ban).
Regarding the ultrasound, I understand from a pro-life position why you would want to require that. Pro-lifers pretty much all agree that ultrasounds have helped the pro-life cause. And while I would agree that if ultrasounds were required, there would be fewer abortions, I'm not sure it is the best way to move the debate. From a libertarian perspective, we should not be pushing procedures (invasive or otherwise) onto people, particularly pregnant people. I worry that this could potentially set back the cause that IMO, we are winning. Why give abortion proponents some sort of hammer to use. Posted by: SH at October 16, 2012 10:56 AM (gmeXX) 287

From a libertarian perspective, we should not be pushing procedures
(invasive or otherwise) onto people, particularly pregnant people. That's part of the lie. Abortion providers were already doing ultrasounds, and (at least in the TX sonogram bill) the number of times that the transvaginal ultrasound is required are incredibly rare. Again, these sonogram bills are not forcing the providers to do anything they weren't already doing- and if they weren't already doing them, they should have been for health and safety reasons, if nothing else. All they're requiring is that the women be fully informed of what they're doing- including the actual stage of development of that human being inside them. In TX, they don't even have to look, but the provider does have to describe. Even there, the woman can waive that, but she has to actively elect to do so (including signing a form). gallon of water and then having someone use the Jelly/Belly and firmly pressing on a full bladder. ------- kawfytawk, I've had both. The invasive kind also requires the drinkage of more water than a human body is able to hold. As in, don't talk to me or I'll pee, please God let this be over so I can go pee, I can't think because all I want to do is pee...... Most important point....these dumb bitches are pushing the meme that the transvaginal ultrasound, the invasive one, is what is used to show these women their babies. And that is FALSE. @305/311.
305 is right. It doesn't matter whether you have this "invasive" procedure at other times. It is who is doing the mandating. If government is mandating it, it is a problem. 311 - you may be right about the particulars of the Texas bill, but it still has the appearance of being a mandate of some sort. So from a political perspective, I'm not sure it is beneficial to the cause. Believe me I am torn on these ultrasound bills. I see the benefit to them. But I much prefer the "counseling" angle over this, such as describing what your baby looks like, how big, what has developed, etc. I believe that more effective anyway, but have no way to prove it. All are making good points. Posted by: SH at October 16, 2012 11:09 AM (gmeXX) 342
The real reason the baby killers are fighting the ultrasound isnt due to a fear that someone will walk based on it, but that the States will use it as a toehold to get medical oversight into their clinics, which will cost them lots of money. Right now, they are less regulated then tattoo parlors.

French President François Hollande has said he will end homework as part of a series of reforms to overhaul the country’s education system. And the reason he wants to ban homework? But when you are the incumbent and you have nothing to run on, and can't point to one area where Americans are better off, then the only way to win is to make the challenger completely unacceptable. I didn't say that twitter invented it, it is simply most prevalent there and such usage appears to be seeping into other formats. It's annoying because such usage mandates constant scrolling to see the comment number for the comment to which the response is directed as well as frequently a guess as to what portion of the comment is in dispute. It's very annoying indeed when using my Fire. Not that the copy paste issue is any better, I'd say I have a solid 10% success rate at doing so on the Fire. This also does not take into account that the comment numbers may change when trollbusting commences. Then it turns into an utter mess because of the ripple effect of the number changes. Sounds like your doctor was practicing CYA medicine. Cover Your Ass. It is pretty common with Obs cause they get sued all the time. Posted by: Billy Bob, pseudo intellectual at October 16, 2012 11:01 AM (wR+pz) Not really. It's actually very common. I have three sisters-in-law that have had five babies between them in the past seven years and they all had transvaginals done early as well. And neither I nor any of them were high risk pregnancies. It's just much easier to see that (a) yes, there is a baby in there that's the source of your symptoms, and (b) yes, there is a heartbeat so he or she alive. You have to be closer to the end of the first trimester to be able to see the baby on the regular belly untrasound. I'm all for ultrasounds as pre-conditions for abortion, BTW. it's just that the claim that transvaginals are only done under extreme circumstances or at the request of the patient is not how doctors are actually practicing nowadays.
