On the other hand: I suspect a double-down on the Biden Strategy is really the play they are going for here. No, not the "be an asshole and a jerk." No: The JEF is going to try to get ad and teevee news footage at all costs.
The JEF is probably going to try to fluster and stymie Romney; he's looking for a clip of Romney stumbling and stuttering. And he is going to go all out to get it. He needs it, he has to have it, the "comeback" narrative requires footage of him getting Romney on the ropes.
Problem is for Mr. Debater, better men than he came at Romney and not a one so much as made him sweat. He smiled, maybe a little chuckle, then completely ruined them.

I suspect bleeding in an early WANTED pregnancy would be a concern for a parent and they would request it.My neighbor spent $10,000's to get pregnant, I suspect she would of had an ultra sound like this, since she had lost several implanted eggs. She now has three childern!

No one is surprised that Obama and "Rev" Wright have deeper political ties. Nothing that happened before the 2008 election (as far as Obama goes) is going to move the needle. Someone may have already told you this because I haven't read the rest of the comments, but there is another kind of ultrasound where the little camera goes in the vagina. It's way less invasive than the procedure whereby the baby got in there, but that's another story.
I had one of those kinds of ultrasounds when I didn't know I was preggo yet and the Dr. suspected it. It was less bothersome than that other thing they stick in there and it was pretty cool because you could already see the baby on the screen and it had only been about three weeks since he was made. Anyway, that's what they're talking about.

There actually is an invasive ultrasound. It's called transvaginal ultrasound. But I can't think of many instances where it would be used in favor of the traditional jelly on the belly kind when showing mothers their babies early in pregnancy. To be honest it is far more comfortable than filling your bladder with a gallon of water and then having someone use the Jelly/Belly and firmly pressing on a full bladder. It is used VERY early in pregnancy. and it is really helpful in ruling out ectopic pregnancies, etc

Regarding the ultrasound, I understand from a pro-life position why you would want to require that. Pro-lifers pretty much all agree that ultrasounds have helped the pro-life cause. And while I would agree that if ultrasounds were required, there would be fewer abortions, I'm not sure it is the best way to move the debate. From a libertarian perspective, we should not be pushing procedures (invasive or otherwise) onto people, particularly pregnant people. I worry that this could potentially set back the cause that IMO, we are winning. Why give abortion proponents some sort of hammer to use.

About the ultrasound wand, the link is wrong. I've had two kids in the last six years. Went in for my first appt at six weeks along for both kids and got the wand insertion to check for a heartbeat both times. I did not request that and certainly wasn't asked if I wanted one. It was just done as part of the normal procedure.

That's part of the lie. Abortion providers were already doing ultrasounds, and (at least in the TX sonogram bill) the number of times that the transvaginal ultrasound is required are incredibly rare.
Again, these sonogram bills are not forcing the providers to do anything they weren't already doing- and if they weren't already doing them, they should have been for health and safety reasons, if nothing else. All they're requiring is that the women be fully informed of what they're doing- including the actual stage of development of that human being inside them.
In TX, they don't even have to look, but the provider does have to describe. Even there, the woman can waive that, but she has to actively elect to do so (including signing a form).

305 is right. It doesn't matter whether you have this "invasive" procedure at other times. It is who is doing the mandating. If government is mandating it, it is a problem.
311 - you may be right about the particulars of the Texas bill, but it still has the appearance of being a mandate of some sort. So from a political perspective, I'm not sure it is beneficial to the cause.
Believe me I am torn on these ultrasound bills. I see the benefit to them. But I much prefer the "counseling" angle over this, such as describing what your baby looks like, how big, what has developed, etc. I believe that more effective anyway, but have no way to prove it.

It's annoying because such usage mandates constant scrolling to see the comment number for the comment to which the response is directed as well as frequently a guess as to what portion of the comment is in dispute. It's very annoying indeed when using my Fire. Not that the copy paste issue is any better, I'd say I have a solid 10% success rate at doing so on the Fire.
This also does not take into account that the comment numbers may change when trollbusting commences. Then it turns into an utter mess because of the ripple effect of the number changes.

Not really. It's actually very common. I have three sisters-in-law that have had five babies between them in the past seven years and they all had transvaginals done early as well. And neither I nor any of them were high risk pregnancies. It's just much easier to see that (a) yes, there is a baby in there that's the source of your symptoms, and (b) yes, there is a heartbeat so he or she alive. You have to be closer to the end of the first trimester to be able to see the baby on the regular belly untrasound.
I'm all for ultrasounds as pre-conditions for abortion, BTW. it's just that the claim that transvaginals are only done under extreme circumstances or at the request of the patient is not how doctors are actually practicing nowadays.

I met then-candidate for the US Senate from Illinois - aka Barky - back in 2004. Actually I didn't get to "meet" him, several of us were introduced to him at a public event,and he took one look at us, said something insulting, and stormed off.
Afterwards, whenever I would tell the story, people would think I was making it up, oh noes Barky isn't like that, Barky's a politician, he loves meeting people, look at all those events where he's smiling and meeting people.
