33 I don't know about this one, but my late brother had a neighbor who seriously suggested at a neighborhood meeting that a proposed 'Deer Crossing' sign should be moved to a different location, since it would be more convenient (for humans, at least) if they crossed there. He and others had to gently break the news to her that deer cross wherever they feel like crossing, and 'Deer Crossing' signs are actually designed to inform humans, not to change the deer's behavior. (I think they were kind enough not to rub it in by pointing out that deer can't read.) This was in Baltimore County not very many years ago (5 or 10?), if you're wondering.

47 If it's not a prank (possibly cooperating with the host), then it's an extremely rare mental deformity.

She can present her obviously inane idea, and completely glosses over explanations and just continues with the idea.

Such things exist, there's a famous city council meeting video that went viral a few years back (not even going to look for it, it was so sad).

The Ums at the beginning made me think maybe she had a head injury or something, but she dropped that (mostly).

I think if the hosts had been sincere they would have kept up with the explaining part.

A quick online search found several similar older prank calls, usually requests to move a deer crossing from a specific street because of accidents.

Likely Obama Voter: Should We Really Have Deer Crossing Signs On Highways? Shouldn't We Have Deer Crossings On Less-Traveled Roads?

I think it's real; it's too lengthy and elaborate for a goof, because the goofer would be afraid of blowing it the longer he/she talked.

The only reason for thinking it's a goof, really, is how stupid this is, but that's not a disqualifying consideration. I had a neighborwho bitched about a microwave antenna that was visible from her house, saying that they should have put it down in a canyon where it wouldn't be visible.

I scoured her face, but nope. She wasn't kidding. Fortunately, she hadn't thought of the deer crossing issue.

I once had a deer hit my car one night. That's right; I didn't hit him, he hit me. Just as I drove past him, he leapt out of the woods and threw a crushing block on the side of my car. The first I saw of him was when his head wrapped around onto the windshield, then was gone,as his body slammed into the right front quarter panel of my car. Startled the shit out of me, I'm not ashamed to say.

But apparently he was OK, because he got up and ran off, according to the guy behind me (we both stopped, of course; he stopped to make sure I was OK.)

Explain that one to your insurance agent.

165 I don't know how accurate the author's historical cites are, but this article is nonetheless interesting:

For fifteen years afterward, America paid ransom and tribute to these Muslim kidnapers. Jefferson constantly urged Americans to fight. He recommended sending Captain John Paul Jones to vindicate Americans’ honor and independence. But throughout the administrations of Presidents George Washington and John Adams, America paid up rather than fight. By 1800, the United States was paying out fully one-fifth of our federal treasury to these pirates. It was never honorable. And it was no longer cheap.

Very few cars around those parts though...One interesting thing about avoidance of collisons with cars. Animals lose their ability to react fast enoughavoid a vehicle as it reaches about 70 miles an hour. I have often thought that had something to do with the fact that very few animals move any faster than that. Predator birds in a dive would be the exception.

209 How do you tell the difference between a local and a city slicker on a dark rural road at night?

The local is doing 45mph so they won't get killed if a deer jumps out.
The city slicker is doing 75mph and doesn't even know the deer are there.

The first I saw of him was when his head wrapped around onto the windshield, then was gone,as his body slammed into the right front quarter panel of my car. Startled the shit out of me, I'm not ashamed to say.>>But apparently he was OK, because he got up and ran off, according to the guy behind me (we both stopped, of course; he stopped to make sure I was OK.)>>Explain that one to your insurance agent.

219 Saw a deer accident 30 seconds before it happened. I was walking my dog next to this road with a meadow on my side. I heard a deer running for fast, turned around to see it run across the road.

About 5 seconds later I heard another deer and at the same time saw approaching headlights. This was about 15 seconds before impact. I knew it was gonna happen well in advance.

Deer tried to jump at the last minute, front hoofs smashed into driver's side window, deer goes flying about 15 feet into the air. Lands with this dull thud behind the car and skids about 15 feet in the car's direction of travel..

Deer tries to get up but its rear legs are non-functional. Police come by and were about to put it down, but me and another bystander decided to slice the deer's throat.

Woman was bloody in the face and covered in deer hair.

Testosterone Administration Reduces Lying in Men
In a double-blind placebo-controlled study, 91 healthy men (24.32±2.73 years) received a transdermal administration of 50 mg of testosterone (n = 46) or a placebo (n = 45). Subsequently, subjects participated in a simple task, in which their payoff depended on the self-reported outcome of a die-roll. Subjects could increase their payoff by lying without fear of being caught. Our results show that testosterone administration substantially decreases lying in men.

I'd say it also reduces instances of giggling like a schoolgirl in debates.

240 Wheatie that's what I think too, that Bill's just been campaigning for congressional candidates lately.

I'm having trouble seeing how both Hillary and Obama escape blame, but maybe they think they can pin it on Susan Rice or someone in the CIA. You'd think people wouldn't buy that, but on the WP blog article (I tried to post the link but it wouldn't post), I scanned a few pages of comments and not one person said anything about the Obama/Hillary/Bill/Benghazi drama. I suppose the WP has protected all of them in their Benghazi coverage.

All they'd have to do is keep quoting Stephanie Cutter. Saw a clip of her last night on Fox and she is inndignant! outraged! that those lying Repulicans! would suggest the O admin has covered up anything. They are working so hard to get to the bottom of this! For the people! She outdoes Debbie Whatzup Schlitz in sheer ability to repeat talking points to the exclusion of all facts and logic, which I didn't think possible.

I have seen jaywalking geese but I give them a pass because it was along a lane through a park and the nearest marked crossing was waaaayyyy far away.)

Next up: pigeon landing zones.

Last night on the ONT someone posted a link to a Heritage Foundation speech by a guy named Evan Sayet, called "How Modern Liberals Think." It's about 30 min long (plus about 15 min of QA), but was one of the best things I've ever read or heard about lefties, quite thought provoking.

He offers a framework to understand their mindset and behavior that makes me see them in a new light even though I had no illusions whatsoever about them before. His website is evansayet dot com and I see he calls that speech part 1, and it parts 2 and 3 are posted there which I'll watch when I have time.

Tuesday's town hall-style debate at Hofstra University will have an
audience of about 80 undecided voters selected by the Gallup
Organization.
Moderator Candy Crowley of CNN will select from among
questions on foreign and domestic policy submitted by the audience. The
final debate, covering foreign policy, will be Oct. 22 in Boca Raton,

453 BTW. Serious tip from a guy who does a lot of driving late at night in deer country.

If you see a deer cross in front of you, slow down because there's likely to be a second or third right behind them that you can't see yet.

They like to travel in "herds". Herds to them being 2 or more. Also they may all be related. (mom and her 1 or 2 offspring)

If you see one on the side of the road, slow down even though it doesn't look like their going to attempt to cross. (someone mentioned it's like they're trying to commit suicide. I think they test themselves against the only predator/threat they know. It's usually bucks that do this.)

Honking horns or flashing lights at them won't do shit.

Can't do anything about the blind curve jumpers though. The ones that come out of nowhere at speed. Try to look at the sides of the road as much as forward when in deer country.

If they worst happens; most states let you keep the carcass. At least get the horns and the tail.

460 And they screwed with the balance somewhere in the turn out--I can almost damn gum guarantee it.

This is the outfit that did this--which almost any pollster will tell you is unprofessional and amounts to near push polling---

The Democratic-leaning polling outfit Public Policy Polling is pushing the stunning notion that media figures like Sean Hannity, Matt Drudge and Tucker Carlson want white people to think President Barack Obama hates them.

“Do you think conservative media figures want to make white people think Barack Obama hates them, or not?” PPP asked in a recent Wisconsin poll this month, according to results first published by Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin.

The question came after the outfit asked respondents if Obama hates white people and whether they have a favorable or unfavorable impression of the Drudge Report, Sean Hannity of Fox News and Tucker Carlson of The Daily Caller.

This PPP poll doesn't pass the smell test. The only way you get to that much of an over vote among early voters is if GOP and Ind are voting for Obama, which is not supported by the rest of the poll. It's bullshit.
